Meet Alaska’s Last Milk Man | Eater

"A small Anchorage grocery focused on bulk and reduced-packaging items that has carried the dairy's glass-bottled milk since last fall. It attracts customers who value local sourcing, reusable bottles (with drop-off/pick-up), and distinctive, full-flavored whole milk; regular shoppers come specifically for the taste and packaging philosophy." - Julia O'Malley

I freaking love blue market, Ak. It’s a woman owned business. They have fresh baked stuff every day. They have a lot of bulk items. This trip I got seasonings, some focaccia bread, bagels from Motley Crew, bakery at Bean’s Café. The freezer and fridges were stocked full of meat, fish, pasta, and produce. The staff is friendly, kind and educated. I have food allergies and they’re always happy to talk to me about what ingredients go into some of their fresh items like in-house made hummus. I appreciate that. They have some cute little Gifty things too, handmade things by artists all over the state. Soap, lip balm, little felted items. About a year and a half ago I bought the cutest little felted rainbow from here and I love it. If you get that the right time they’re bringing the focaccia bread out of the oven and it’s a beautiful experience. Sometimes they put really yummy stuff in it like garlic and onions.

I absolutely love going to The Blue Market. It’s a refreshing little reprieve from conventional shopping spots, and the staff are always incredibly kind and helpful. Be sure to bring your own containers otherwise plan on about $0.50 to 1.00 per container if you purchase from the bulk section. I stop in almost daily for fresh fruit, and my kids are obsessed with the baked goods. The cinnamon rolls and cookies are amazing. This store truly offers something special. kitchen supplies, household, cleaning goods, jewelry, art and makeup, mostly handcrafted stuff. The Spenard community is blessed to have such a unique place, and hopefully someday they’ll decide to move to Rabbit Creek. 🤓

This store is a true gem, from the friendly staff to the community minded recycling of jars and containers, you will find awesome deals. Bring in your empty containers of shampoo, conditioner, and soap to fill them up. Fresh baked bread and desserts, veggies, meats, and even wild scoops ice cream. Trust me, you will find something here for you, and you walk away knowing you supported a store that supports our community.

This a great place to refill items.from your pantry. Most items are sold in bulk. They have some nice gifts. They also have some good baked items. The baguette are.large and very good. The had a fruit bar that will be requested in the future. They had a small.produce selection. I enjoyed a very good pear. There's only anfew parking spaces, plenty of bike parking.

Love the zero waste!! From the toothpaste tablets, shampoo & conditioner bars (no plastic), to the Alaskan honey.. you can bring your own jar, or use one already there. Awesome place, a lot to choose from. Check it out! Customer service A+

Blue Market is hands down one of my favorite spots in Anchorage! I love being able to stock up on essentials like dish soap and laundry pods while also treating myself to something delicious from the bakery counter (they make the best cookies!). There’s always something new and exciting on the shelves, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Forgot your refillable container? No problem! They have clean vessels available for just 50 cents. Plus, I love that I can drop off jars I no longer need, keeping them out of the landfill. Shopping here is always a feel-good experience, knowing that every product is either locally sourced or comes from a sustainable supplier. If you care about sustainability, quality products, and great service, Blue Market is a must-visit!

Yelp
I didn't think we had one of these stores, but today I found one. We had just left lunch across the street and decided to see what this store was. We pulled up and I got excited before I even walked in. Keep your empty cleaned out bottles and jars because ladies and gentlemen we can now buy bulk item with out all the plastic from the big stores. They also have empty jars for $.50 if you need them. They have everything from raw nuts, fruit, vegetables, shampoo and toothpaste tablets. We walked around and looked and then decided on a few items We got small jars of a shea butter lotion, amazing! Also picked up some lip balms I believe we got three different ones. Also Amazing! I picked up some wheat berries so I can mill some flour for bread. Speaking of bread, they also sell bread made locally. They sell cookies and coffee made with beans and syrups they sell. We left with a bunch of goodies to try and takes about our next trip and what we will get. I'm changing our eating habits this year. We are making everything at home. No fast food all home cooked. Well except today when we had to eat, but we choose well with our food. lol we are eating clean now so if your looking to change your eating habits, or want to get away from all the plastic and buy local, stop in and have a look. You never know you may just see something and keep coming back for more.

Yelp
The best selection of local produce, everyday essentials, and an in-house bakery with an ever-changing menu. Erica, Alyssa, Jess, Cameron, and all of the Blue Crew are all delightful people (and this is coming from someone who has worked years in customer service, even briefly alongside the Blue Crew.) The shop has a wide assortment of product which can be a lot of stimulation to newcomers, but there is talk of expanding someday in the future. As a customer, I am always pleased with the wide selection of product and the product knowledge of the cashiers. Depending on whether you like to keep it low-key and shop during the weekdays or you prefer to knock out your grocery shopping with the masses during the weekends, the vibes can vary and many people prefer to come on Saturdays so keep that in mind for when you shop. I most often visit during pop-ups (which happen frequently, and with a variety of different vendors.) Their Instagram account is very active and I usually get my updates there, although they do have an email list if you prefer to avoid social media. Make sure to come on time when a pop-up does occur, as they are small businesses and usually have a limited stock. I personally love enjoying Alyssa's vegan baked goods on Sundays alongside my weekly glass bottle of local milk from Delta Junction. Every time I visit I am pleasantly surprised with new product additions, and I will support Blue Market as the first stop on my grocery mission whenever I can. Pro tip- don't forget they do sell espresso drinks with locally roasted coffee and Delta Junction Dairy- easily one of the best places to get a hot (or cold) cup of coffee in town.

Yelp
I ADORE Blue Market!!! This is such a needed niche in Anchorage and it's in Spenard YAY!! The shop is super cute, clean and fun! They have a container lending station for if you stop by but don't have your own container. which is cool also if you have some you need to get rid of this is a great place! A variety of items from personal care, to household cleaning are available with out packaging!! (You bring your own). Soon they will even have Groceries!!! Thanks Blue Market for helping me reduce my footprint!!!

Yelp
Was on the lookout for a bar shampoo and checked out this place, finally. Awesome spot for food and gifts and gadgets. Had a larger variety of goods than I expected. Also had a really great cookie that was baked there. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
I really love the idea of this place, I've been looking for a sustainable grocery store in this area. However, whenever I go into this place I am treated like a burden by either the staff or the owner. There is a holier than thou vibe to this place so be prepared to be judged if you go in here.

Yelp
They will sell you half a loaf of brea, inc half a baguette. Or 2 dinner rolls. Or 3 taco shelves. Buy what you need, not what you don't.

Yelp
Im glad there is a zero waste store to start changing the amount of waste we produce. However my husband, who is black, and I, who is Hispanic, we're walking around checking out everything and knew we were being watched. Someone came by to where we were looking at and pretended to be fixing displays. We could clearly see her moving small this just back and forth. This happens to us a lot since AK has very few people of color that do not live on the street. When asking about products, we were met with condescending attitudes. I felt like we had to buy something to make it seem like we were actually paying customers and not stealing. I work very close to this place so I continue to shop and get small things when needed since i support the industry. However, I still am met with a tone and vibe that i shouldn't be there. Again, when asking about how to use an item, I get the same condescending attitude. Great place, terrible service for any people of color.
