Blue Marlin Fish House Review - North Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Blue Marlin is right next to Oleta State Park and looks like it could be a visitor’s center, rest area, or one of those shelters you rent out to celebrate a first communion. But it’s actually an old-Florida-style seafood spot like the kind you find in the Keys. This is the place to get old-school favorites like smoked fish dip, conch fritters, dolphin fingers, and fish sandwiches. You can also grab a beer to wash it all down with while looking out onto the Oleta River thanks to the waterfront seating, or rent paddleboards here and take them down the tranquil river into the bay." - Carlos C Olaechea

What a beautiful spot. I always choose to eat here whenever I want to get away from the noisy crowds and be closer to nature. Eating with this view has no price. I think is a plus that the food is always great and the service even more. Please don’t miss out on this hidden gem, support your local businesses! You won’t be disappointed.

I had high hopes, and was excited to try this unique restaurant. The day was gorgeous, all outdoor seating on the river overlooking kayakers and mangroves. Really pretty incredible considering you are just off of an 8 lane road. Menu was too simple, 2 fish entrees items, the rest is burger, hotdog. Very basic. In the past, they had the most amazing fish tacos. I ordered the fish dip, for a quick snack but it took over 30 minutes. They were not busy think they lost my order? If they could be more organized in the kitchen, and upscale the menu this could be a sought after hidden gem.

The burger was awesome, fries were fresh and excellent!! The chicken bites were so-so. I did not like them, totally flavorless. This place has new management or owner now. I always come here for paddle boards and kayaks and eat here after I’m done. The food today was excellent, the service otherwise….. Cyril Miranda Miami Real estate agent The waitress was nice but inefficient, they need to make a way for the system to work faster, and make the order take forever. Plus I asked her for water for my dogs and she forgot, I had to ask her 3 times until I got up myself and went for the water. We were the only costumer and we had to wait a long time for a burger and chicken bites… In general good, room for improvement. Will give it another try next time I’m around.

Google
This place is legit - kayaking through the mangroves was amazing. Great views and peaceful atmosphere. They have a great menu and craft beers available. Need to check out the happy hour. The price wasn’t too bad to kayak - about 27 an hour- they charge you after you get back.

Google
Great service, the burger was really good but the fish and fries were over salty. A bit disappointed of the menu, is not blue Marlin anymore, is a burger restaurant, very basic one, but the location is amazing and is easy to park, I hope they get on their feet soon.

Google
Service was problematic and confusing, they brought the food to the table but we had to ask for utensils and fetch our own napkins. The amount of the food was different in the dishes for the same orders. The view is nice by the water.

Google
Food was excellent! The outdoor casual atmosphere and good food was exactly what we wanted. The Mahi Mahi was especially good and the kids loved the chicken. The scenery was so beautiful, I wish we had gone earlier so we could have rented a kayak. Highly recommend!

Google
I have been twice here already. The first time was a few months ago and had the mahi sandwich, not impressed. Came back today and had the burger medium rare and I was impressed. They also have a decent beer selection. I appreciate this spot, it looks like it's been here for over 50 years. It's a taste of that Miami used to be like back then and in a city with little appreciation for it's own history, it's a hidden gem.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that the new ownership is the best thing to happen to the Blue Marlin The owners and employees are the nicest people you will ever meet and make the place feel more like a family get together than a business, but make no mistake from the food to the service it is run professionally. Remember that they also provide kayaking paddle boarding, and canoeing which I highly recommend and then on your return kick back relax order some food and drinks and enjoy the beautiful sunset and atmosphere. Don't miss out!

Yelp
Went to eat here and loved the ambiance and environment. Unfortunately there is no servers and no real service everything is ordered at a window and brought to your table although when they bring food They bring no napkins,no utensils, no sauce They ask you to get your own stuff even though the runner passes this area as they bring the food The food itself tasted like it came from a freezer into a fryer into my mouth Great property but lack of operations and service When I complained about my coconut shrimp 6 pieces came in the order we only ate 2 pieces The server talked to the manager and the manager never came to speak to me the coconut shrimp were burnt beyond digestion Instead of the manager speaking to me they just sent me out 4 shrimp that were less cooked than the first but it's not what I asked for I asked to speak to the manager and instead that happened like just trash service I'm pretty sure the owners or managers were there and they clearly have no idea how to run a restaurant if this is the what customer service they can provide. Really disappointed won't be coming back I'd avoid this spot if I were you

Yelp
We've been passing by Blue Marlin for years - located near the corner of 163rd Street and Biscayne Blvd (right on the Oleta River) - but we've never stopped by. Mostly we pass it during dinner hours and it appeared to have been closed. They're only open until 8 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays, so we typically would miss them because we usually go out for dinner after that. They have plenty of free parking right out in front of the restaurant as well. We went and checked out the restaurant for dinner at 7 PM on a Friday night and we were the only customers there. You go to the window and place your order - and two ladies were working at the restaurant and both were extremely friendly and hospitable. My partner and I ordered the mozzarella sticks ($8) to start (it included 5 sticks with marinara sauce). We both ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($12) and included fries with it as well. We also ordered a glass of wine which was on a happy hour special for $5 per glass. We sat at a table right on the river and no one was around us (a great surprise and very comforting with everything going on with COVID). You receive a pager that will page you back to the restaurant window when your food is ready. The food was prepared freshly and was prepared for us in a nominal amount of time. All food was piping hot and good quality. We liked everything we had ordered and exceeded our expectations. We look forward to coming back to the restaurant again!

Yelp
This is a wonderful place, which combines water sports such as kayaking or canoeing with a restaurant overlooking the water, in the heart of the Oleta River in North Miami, pure nature and super safe, where you can go with or without a reservation and spend relaxing with family. and friends. We celebrated my son's birthday together, we were about 45 people including family and friends, the service was excellent and the food was delicious, I recommend the ceviche, the mahi mahi tacos and the shrimp in coconut, the portions are large and the prices affordable. Parking is free, I definitely recommend the place.

Yelp
food was excellent including the pink (support breast cancer) gluten free bun! Mahi mahi was outstanding! beautiful view of the water and manatees and mangroves! stop by like guy fieri did!

Yelp
I just ate the BEST mahi mahi ever!! I don't normally like mahi mahi because it has always been dry to me. This fish was thick and moist! Like Chilean sea bass! The French fries are also excellent- crispy on the outside and soft on inside. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Service was EXTREMELY slow. beer advertised on window was not available. waited over 20 minutes for fries and chicken. once we got the loaded cheese fries, the cheese wasn't even melted. the chicken tender for my child took even longer than the fries. very poor experience. will not be returning.

Yelp
I love this place, the new management is working hard to get all, There's no dining service but the staff is really friendly. I loved their chicken tenderss

Yelp
If there was a lower rating that wouldl be my choice. We recently saw a rerun of the June, 2018 Diners Drive In's and Dives. It looked enticing and after confirming that it was open dispite several internet sites that said that it was closed, we made the one hour excursion from Delray Beach to see just what they had to offer. The answer is NOT MUCH. Imagine, a fish house with no local fish. None of the Mahi Mahi that is caught off our shores, or anything resembling Marlin. The only fish was the Fish and Chips, and that was frozen. cod from Alaska. We were there, it was 1 PM and we had to eat, so we made the mistake of ordering. My $15 cheeseburger was not as good as Burger King (a little thicker), tasteless and the consistency of food that not made up in the restaurant. The fries were just plain awful. My wife's Coconut shrimp was just passable. No better that that could have been suppled by an outside food service.(maybe it was). Curious if this place has changed hands. Next time I'll drive a little further and go the Little Havanah

Yelp
If you are looking for a safe place to eat and have a few beers during covid look no further. The Blue Marlin is an outdoor oasis tucked into North Miami Beach. This is a small order through the window type of establishment that sits directly on the water at the Northern most edge of Oleta Park one block East of the intersection of Biscayne BLVD and 163rd street on 163rd street. The food is basic but well prepared, but the beer selection is gourmet. What a nice place to sit outside, eat a snack and drink some really good beers while watching people in kyacks glide along the river. Simplicity is relaxing in itself.

Yelp
Great spot to grab a bite and a drink. The coconut shrimp and mahi sandwich were tasty. They are dog friendly and a good spot for groups right on the water. I'll definitely recommend to friends and will come back again. Very friendly service, they also allow you to fish off the dock.

Yelp
If you are looking for a safe, cozy, clean place to eat with a beautiful scenery, great prices and amazing food, you have to try the Blue Marlin.

Yelp
Great stop after kayaking at Oleta River State Park. Food was good and the view was great. If you spend $50 at the Oleta River Outdoor Center, you get a free pitcher of beer.

Yelp
Ok. So this place is calling themselves a "fish house" in their name and they were out of fish. I don't think you go here for the food. The location is good and looks like it could be a fun place to hang but I would not recommend going there for the food. Burgers were marginal (since they were out of fish that's what we had).

Yelp
Don't bother going there. The menu you see online versus what is actually there is sparse at best. They don't even have a real cheeseburger, just a "garden burger" which is probably made of lawn clippings and lettuce. The guy behind the counter seemed to not understand that his drink menu on the printed tarp next to his order window said "frozen drinks" but was perplexed why I would request my options. Avoid like the plague.

Yelp
Encouraged by this place being featured on DDD with Guy Fieri, I decided to go over and check it out. It was not what I expected. I found it's a modest, low-key, beachy-type joint where you place your order at a window, you pay and then pick up your food when it's ready, similar to a food-truck operation. Initially, I ordered the mahi-mahi sandwich (which I saw on their online menu, and it's still there) but was told that item wasn't on the menu...hmm, weird! So, I settled for coconut shrimp, fish & chips (fries) and a can of soda. Honestly, the food was just OK but nothing out of this world, and that was disappointing because I went there expecting more flair and sophistication in the food, same as food trucks have with their dishes. In addition, considering the type of place it is and that the food is basically standard fare you can get at any seafood place, I thought the prices were high; the can of soda was $3!!! My bill total was almost $30. I could have ordered the same near where I live for about 15-20% less. Based on this experience, I don't plan to visit this place again, as it is really nothing special but ordinary instead.

Andi K.

Yelp
The service was great but, I wish I could say the same about the food. Ordered the "Dolphin" sandwich being swayed by the fact the menu promised brioche bread among other things. Unfortunately the bread was anything but brioche and the fish was tasteless and dry. I hate to say that it was very overpriced and wasn't worth it at all. Not to mention, halfway through the meal I ended up having to get up and eat my remaining food in my car since I was being eaten alive by mosquitos under the table. I recommend taking your own food and just going for the view.
