Today was my mother's 86th birthday. With Covid-19 out there, I couldn't take her out to a restaurant to celebrate, so I decided to order take out and have a dinner together in her home. I had never been to Blue Moon but from it's location and outward appearance, I imagined it to be upscale food that would make my mother's birthday special. When I called in my order, the best way to describe the person who took my order is a word a previous reviewer used to describe her experience dining in - "unpolished." Maybe they were busy, who knows? Later, when I went to pick up my order, I waited an extra 30 minutes from the time they said it would be ready around a small crowd of people who were also waiting. I get it, they were backed up and didn't have the capacity to handle the orders in a timely fashion. With Covid-19, their setup was probably markedly different and they couldn't give accurate estimates of when orders would be ready. If it were just for me, I wouldn't mind, but my mother was waiting by herself at home and it was distressing. So for this alone, I took one star off the review.
Once I got home, we ate.
The positives:
-The marinara sauce for our entrees was delicious.
-The food was filling.
The negatives:
-The garlic knots were HORRIBLE. They were cold and the insides were dried out. They had obviously been sitting around for quite some time, certainly not fresh. The part I don't get is why they would have sold them to me. They should have simply apologized when I requested them and said that they wouldn't recommend the garlic knots at this time -BUT NOT just thrown what they had laying around into a tin and sold them to me.
-The side of bread they gave us with our order was a crushed quarter of an Italian bread wrapped in aluminum foil - not very appetizing.
I probably won't be returning to this restaurant for take out anytime in the future. Maybe the pizza's good, I don't know because I didn't order it...But for the disappointment of the wait time, the sad side of bread, and especially the terrible garlic knots, I have to give this place a "meh!"
