A week or so ago, I went to Blue Moon to give it a try. I didn't dine in, I was more interested in getting some prepared items to save me time and effort during the week.
I'll start with the chicken-salad sandwich. Bland. There was a generous amount between the pieces of bread, but it was super bland. I couldn't even make it more interesting by adding condiments. I also kept finding gristle in it in the few bites I ate. The trimming needs work.
With the chicken salad, I had some chicken noodle soup. This stuff is misnamed; it should be chicken-with-random-veggies-and-a-few-pasta-corkscrews soup. And, oddly enough, it had a SWEET flavor that even a generous dose of black pepper couldn't combat.
The soup had too much celery, too many beans, and too many aromatics. What it didn't have was a proper showing of noodles. 2/3 of it went in the dumpster. It just didn't taste good.
Lesson in this: Make my own soup. It's far better.
Next up was a chicken broccoli quiche that didn't have a crust, which actually made it a frittata. You know all of the seasoning that wasn't in the chicken salad? They put it in the "quiche." Two bites and I was done; it was really awful. Just overpowering, and not in a good way.
I also tried the frozen lasagna. Over-salted. A few bites and that was it. For the record, no, I'm not a picky eater. I eat lots of different foods. But what I AM picky about is preparation and end-result flavor.
I have a frozen heirloom tomato pie still, that I'm actually hesitant to try. If the other food wasn't good, I don't hold out much hope for the pie.
Before I went there, I'd had several people tell me how great the food is there. Maybe the secret is to dine in, I don't know. But based on what my experience was, I don't see the point.
