The Best Restaurants in Port Townsend, Washington - Eater Seattle

"Every town worth its salt has a go-to breakfast diner, and here, that’s Blue Moose Cafe. Tables groan under heaping plates of well-prepared classics: corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, French toast, all with the option of an egg on top. There are typically long lines on weekends, but the wait gives plenty of time to build up an appetite." - Matthew Lombardi

Google
Quaint and quirky is definitely how I describe the blue moose. A local favorite, this spot offers comfort food at reasonable rates. I was looking for places off the beaten path of the tourists in town and found this place. Was not disappointed. As an old line cook, I felt right at home in the blue moose. Cleared my plate and had 2 cups of coffee without feeling overly full. Definitely recommend.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at the Blue Moose Cafe, and it was an awesome experience. The service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious, with flavors that exceeded our expectations. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with their eggs benedict. Although there was a short wait to be seated, it was well worth it as the overall dining experience more than made up for it. I highly recommend the Blue Moose Cafe to anyone looking for excellent food and exceptional service.

I am torn about writing this review. The food at the Blue Moose Cafe was amazing. We enjoyed every bite of the biscuits & gravy, pancakes, and salmon omelet. However, the workers are very aggressive. This cafe is tiny. Being a tourist, I wasn't aware that if you are not sitting at a booth you weren't welcome in the restaurant. I didn't see any signs indicating waiting would be done outside, but the worker was sure to let me know. It was 20 degrees and raining but we stood outside for 40 minutes waiting for our turn. The food was not worth the misery.

Great service. Good food. They have a small kitchen. Take it easy, relax and enjoy your stay.

Google
What a wonderful spot for breakfast. Definitely a locals favorite. The vibe is laid back, friendly and cheerful. Small, but cozy and comfortable. The food was outstanding and the service was top notch. We had about 2 hours to kill before we caught a ferry across and asked the staff for recommendations. They were over the top helpful and kind. Really fun and kitschy wall art!

It is a diamond in the rough. Don’t let the fact that this breakfast joint is located in a working boat yard in Port Townsend keep you from going. It’s worth your time. The menu is expansive and everyone in our party loved what they got. From pancakes to cinnamon roll French toast to cheesy scrambled eggs to fried polenta and pecan sausage, it was all really tasty. The atmosphere is great. It is kitschy and doesn’t look like it’s changed much in 30 years. Loved the plates and signs plastered all over the walls. It was a fun place just to sit and soak it all in. I really appreciated that they had multiple, free self—serve coffee stations for you while you waited for a table. Not too many places offer that these days.

Google
Wow. What a find! So glad we stopped in and added our names to the wait list. Such a small, sweet, and delicious spot. I can honestly say I haven’t had a better breakfast out for some time. First, there’s options for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. We were given buzzers to let us know when the table was ready. It had a wide range, which allowed us to walk around the actual working shipyard and grab a cup of coffee at Sunrise Coffee, which also roasts a special blend for Blue Moose (buy some, you won’t be disappointed). As well, Blue Moose has self serve coffee for those who prefer to wait on site. There is plenty of space for one to sit and relax while anticipating their yummy breakfast. On to the food and drink. I had a Bloody Mary, which was actually the best I’ve ever had. It wasn’t so much the garnishes, it was the perfectly spiced tomato juice. I was floored. Tried to sip and savor but ….. THE FOOD! My partner had the smoked salmon omelette and claimed it was “The best smoked salmon I’ve ever had” and proceeded to inhale his huge omelette, roasted potatoes, and rye toast. I, meanwhile, had the South of the Border scramble, which was Q’rico! Just the right side of crispy… the tortillas were perfection and the eggs and cheese brought it home. But wait… it’s topped with fresh avocado, a hint of sour cream, and some salsa. There’s a wide variety of hot sauces to take advantage of, which I did. Accompanied by roasted potatoes and deliciously crispy sourdough toast. I couldn’t eat again for hours. So full!! On to the staff… genuine kindness. I loved listening to them talk to all the other customers. We were seated at the counter today, so got to hear a lot of chatter. It was genuine. Lastly, I watched every person come in, hear the wait time, nod and grab a buzzer with a smile. They know a good thing when they see one. As do I. Thank you to the lovely staff who served us today. It was remarkable.

We loved it so much that we came back a second day. Perfectly located next to the ODT Larry Scott multi-use trail. We rode bikes and enjoyed the breakfast. Great food and service.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Best breakfast I've had in the area and we travel here every year. Staff was attentive, friendly and cute. Coffee is great, from the nearby Sunshine Co. Bacon! OMG Popular place , so parking is not easy to find, but it is SO worth it! Looking forward to our next PT trip to return to the Blue Moose!!!

Yelp
Food: Worth the money. Generous portions. Tasty. Lots of options - even for non-meat eaters. I had the corned beef hash - recommend sharing. It was a lot - a lot of delicousness. RECOMMEND: Start with some coffee and Homemade Pecan Cardamom Coffee Cake. It was SO GOOD!! Service: On point. Attentive. Friendly. Ambiance: It's small, quaint, homey. NOT a chain restaurant so it's quirky and charming. Parking: Be patient, you'll find a spot. I don't know if it's family owned but it sure gave off that vibe. Every person we interacted with were super friendly. Side note: When we were there, it seemed like one of their staff in the kitchen was sick so everyone was chipping in - so maybe they aren't a family but they're definitely a team.

Yelp
The waitress was very friendly and efficient. The hash was excellent and there was way too much of it. We shared it and still took some back home. I recommend this as a breakfast spot.

Yelp
Delicious food and coffee and great service make this little hidden gem shine! We loved it all.

Yelp
I'd give 6 stars if I could! Hard to go to any other breakfast spot when we're in port Angeles. They have fun options, the Ode to Ina lives rent free in my head and heart. Maritime diner feels with bomb vegetarian options too. The sweetest service, your liberal auntie runs this place. There was a small wait so we sat at the counter and ate warmed sour cream cardamom coffee cake with some good ol drip, and then got seated and ugh just truly immaculate food and vibes, eat here.

Yelp
Sure it's in a marina. And maybe parking is hit and miss. And maybe you'll like the kitsch in the marina or inside the restaurant. And then the food. Very good and creative. Our table had three things that were well worth having again. The smoked salmon scramble, the smoked salmon omlette, and Ina which is a polenta with black beans and corn topped with a fried egg and a nut based patty that was very enjoyable. The coffee *with* some cream was also good (I'm somewhat of a coffee snob). The folks here are incredibly attentive and welcoming with their service. We have been here a number of times before and make it a required stop in Port Townsend.

Yelp
I'm pretty much a regular at the Moose so I don't know why I haven't written a review before today! I have NEVER had anything but a terrific meal here. I used to go with scooters and the South of the Border eggs with jalapeños but a couple of years ago I tried the Corned Beef hash and have never gone back. There are serious chunks of corned beef in the hash and they are thrown on the flattop with the potatoes and onions so there's a nice crisp on most of the pieces. The seasoning on the beef is terrific and potatoes are melt-in-your mouth! We get the hash with three over easy eggs and they are exactly that way. Not overcooked. Service is prompt and the staff is friendly. I'm still amazed that so many meals come out of that tiny kitchen. Yes on weekends you'd better expect a line. But if the weather's nice and it's Uber busy, we order ours to go and pop over to the beach and sit on a log to eat. It's perfect!

Yelp
Yearly Girls trip and we always stop here for breakfast. Service is quick even if there's a line out the door. We always get it to go so then they give you a beeper and we take a walk about down towards water. Ordered Denver style omelet, south of the border scramble, and a vegetarian omelet. Tasty and filling. Worth a try if your in town!!

Yelp
While the seating area is a little smaller and the parking is pretty full - it is definitely worth the stop. We were seated immediately and got our food pretty quickly too. It has a very cute small-town diner feel and the food was amazing - expect to leave with a very full stomach. Portions were awesome and not for a bad price!
google avatar

Yelp
Such good diner food. Massive corn beef hash - crispy and tender at the same time. Home fries were cooked and seasoned well. Fluffiest of fluffy pancakes. would recommend.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
My husband and I were going to go for brunch, but the wait was long, so we ordered to go. The breakfast burrito was pretty good, as was the bacon. Unfortunately, the pancake we ordered, which is marketed as light and fluffy, was dense and rubbery. :(

Bere R.

Yelp
Definitely recommend! I just saw the food and I knew it was gonna be good. Food came out really hot which I was so greatful for The service is great too, they are very welcoming and kept checking up on us. The vibe is nice and calm but we came for breakfast.

Yelp
The Blue Moose is a funky little place down in the industrial marine area. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. The area is quite small, I didn't count the tables, but there's probably about 10 2-tops and 4-tops combined. Their kitchen is super tiny, about the size of a large walk-in closet, so your meal may take a while if they are at capacity. That said, the food is great! Most, if not all, of their dishes are made from scratch. The corned beef hash and biscuits are delicious. Everyone is friendly and helpful. They are very laid back and don't press you for time in an attempt to turn tables, but keep this in mind when it's busy, and please be considerate of other guests waiting to dine. A little courtesy and thoughtfulness feels good, especially these days.

Mary C.

Yelp
This place is a must stop every time we visit PT! The food is amazing, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. Parking can be a challenge when it's busy and there can be a wait but trust me - it's worth it! We had our dog with us, and she was able to sit next to us at the table outside. The server was kind in pointing out the dog water bowl near the entrance to the outside area too. I look forward to our next trip!

Yelp
What a delight! Order pretty much whatever you want. Staff is polite, friendly and professional. I had a scramble of 2 eggs, spinach, bacon and cheddar cheese. They didn't skimp of spinach like a lot of people do. Potatoes could use a little paprika or smoked paprika, a little bland but still very good! It wasn't busy, but they only do fresh so breakfast took about 10 minutes. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
A solid cafe for breakfast. The cafe is located in a ship/boat yard. Always busy and often there is a wait. We all a typical breakfast and that is perhaps why I can't remember specifically what my breakfast partners had. I had their homemade hash with two eggs and it was WONDERFUL! I would highly recommend it. Voted best breakfast at our table. Fun funky atmosphere. This is not your mother's 'Dennys'.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
Funky, fun, filling luckily they offer half portions on many items. Excellent scratch cooking love the corned beef hash, omelettes, French toast, biscuits & gravy all are solid choices. Don't miss the Moosetails and house bakery goods are very good. Service fast, friendly and fearless. Parking can be a challenge.

Yelp
Really nice staff work there. The food was great too! Fresh orange juice 100/100!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Incredible breakfast, I had the hash, best I've ever had. Super friendly atmosphere and incredible staff. I'll be back

Sylvia R.

Yelp
Brody & Logan were outstanding servers! Prompt, cheerful, considerate... everything that was lost in customer service after quarantine. The food was 100% perfect too!! We highly recommend having breakfast when visiting Port Townsand. We'll be having lunch here later. Thank you, Blue Moose!!

Susan H.

Yelp
I love the fact they have healthy options. Got the veggie scramble with sweet potatoes which came with a delicious homemade biscuit.... Which I deserved because I ate my veggies. =)

Chelsea D.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. The pancakes are amazing. Recently I had the florentine eggs benedict and it was really good. Service is slow, but they have a small kitchen and make that very clear on the menu. It's port townsend, take it easy, no one's in a rush here! Overall I love coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Great portion sizes and good service. I definitely would come back. In industrial area but no problems parking. Kitschy place.

Abigail G.

Yelp
I think we must have come during a busy time (around 9:30am on a Thursday), so it took a little longer than normal to get coffee and then get our food as well (maybe 35-40 min). But when the food came it was delicious! My bagel sandwich was YUM and the blueberry pancakes were massive. One is enough for two people easily. Coffee was decent, and the staff were nice and kept bringing fresh coffee around regularly which was great. The place itself feels very old-timey, lots of decorations on the walls, old porcelain plates, etc. Overall, a good spot in a beautiful location!

Carla Jean P.

Yelp
The food is always good and consistent, very friendly, and Rhonda and staff are the best.

Yelp
Had breakfast here before leaving town. They were hustling on a Monday but didn't skip a beat. I was sat within ten minutes and greeted instantly for a drink order. They carry local coffee and fresh squeezed oj and have my favorite hot sauces on the table. I ordered the Mexican omelette with chorizo and it was delicious. The service was great, the walls are fun to look at and the food is on point.

Yelp
Really cute breakfast spot with incredibly delicious food! Busy, bustling and still great service! Worth the wait!

Yelp
First motorbike ride of the year and i found this place from reviews i had read. I was not disappointed, Staff were so polite everyone and i mean everyone was working hard with a smile. Char ( charlotte) was my server and was great although everyone made sure i was taken care of. Fill your own coffee if you don't want to wait for server to serve you which is a great idea for a small slammed cafe. Food was very good might try the burrito next time. I am a raving fan and will be back

Mark G.

Yelp
On our visit to friends on marrow stone island we decided to trek into PT for breakfast it was a beautiful day the building is down by the boat yard parking was a challenge, when we arrived there was a wait ,and they nicely suggested we wait outside ..... due to limited space inside.... Our wait was not to long plus they give you a pager.... I had the heuvos rancheros which was good and a slug of red potato's which I found under seasoned and plain, my wife had a breakfast burrito which she thought was not to exciting , the service was very good !!!

Yelp
We stopped here for brunch on our way out of Port Townsend. It's located in a ship yard, which was unexpected when we rolled up. Parking may not be nearby but it's a big working yard so you can find parking, but it might be a bit of a walk. We were able to snag one of the picnic tables outside in front since we had our pup with us. We got French toast, a chorizo & avocado burrito and huevos rancheros. Everything came fairly quickly. The brioche bread for the French toast was soft and fluffy and thick. It was served with a healthy pat of butter, sprinkled with pecans and powdered sugar. A full order had 4 slices and I would say this should be more of a side order - cause I think I needed some something savory to go with it like eggs and bacon. Anyways I did get to try bites of the other dishes and they were both solid. Portion sizes were large too and we were able to take half the huevos and French toast, as leftovers. Service was really good and friendly. They do serve beer and something called a moosetail, which is like a fermented drink they make in house since they don't have a hard liquor license. I would highly recommend this place for breakfast.

Yelp
Service wasnt fast but the food was GREAT! We are going back again! Definitely going back again

Yelp
Food - 4 Service - 3 Value - 3 We came here the other day and what we thought would end up being maybe a 30 minute meal to start our adventures turned into a 90 minute ordeal. The food itself was pretty good but probably something we could have gotten at a number of other places (I got the Salmon Omelet and my wife got their Croissant French Toast special) -- and it's quite possible the long wait for the food resulted in us not feeling like the it was as good as others have posted on Yelp. We ended up waiting almost an hour for our food -- with no visit from the waiter to keep us updated at all. We finally asked them what was going on and they apologized because they had a surprise health inspection and had to stop everything in the kitchen while that was happening. They did comp our drinks to compensate us for the inconvenience which is why the Service rating is a 3 rather than a 2 -- however, I felt they should have done a little more than that.

Yelp
So good would drive over there and take a ferry just to eat there again, I was a bit put out when we drove up and had second thoughts but bc the reviews were so good we decided to give it a try! One of the best bfast places we have been! Yum. Do it!!! Wild and crazy good food!

George H.

Yelp
The service TOP NOTCH, the Food Spectacular! Friendly environment! Worth the wait. Visiting from LA and found this Gem of a place! We will be back 100%.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Two words for this place. Corn beef and gravy. It's in the middle of the shipyard so there is no view, but the friendly staff and the food smell make up for it. Huge menu for vegetarians and not. But the gravy! It's like clam chowder without clams. Sooo good.
google avatar

Yàtmá W.

Yelp
Fabulous breakfast! Located in the shipyard with interesting things to see. The staff are friendly and our order was perfect. We loved the fresh veggies in the eggs and the cilantro sauce on the omelette.

Shannon DeJean R.

Yelp
Wonderful food and great service! I had the "Mr. Sunshine", which was delightful! It is a cinnamon bun french toast, with a pecan honey butter, which was amazing! It comes with scrambled eggs, which were perfectly soft and creamy,, and crispy bacon! Highly recommend!

J K.

Yelp
Really good breakfasts and full size portions. The salmon scramble is darn good as is the veggie sausage.
google avatar

Shady D.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast! The place fills up quickly with limited indoor seating, so plan to sit outside in the morning shade. We arrived at 7:30 and got the last outdoor seats. Service was good considering how busy they were, the burritos were awesome, and the coffee just right for a local diner. We would definitely come back again.
google avatar

Sandra U.

Yelp
We had a wonderful early lunchtime breakfast here recently and it was so nice! This is a very popular breakfast and lunch cafe, and we were lucky to get a table cleared right away only because so many people were at the Rhody Festival parade! Just excellent ingredients well prepared, with generous portions and good service! Breakfast choices of eggs, bacon, sausages, and breakfast potatoes, plus some creative pancake and french toast entrees. Such a great atmosphere too!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We stopped in one morning on our tour of the Olympic Peninsula, and I had the most memorable meal of our trip. I had the "Ode to Ina" breakfast with the pecan sausage. I am not a vegetarian, so don't let that keep you from this meal. The flavors of this breakfast were so, so good that I keep thinking about it! Thank you for a fantastic dining experience to kick off our trip!
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Awesome local eatery in the marina, well worth the wait. Great coffee, fresh food. They were short a cook the day we arrived, so service was slow. The ambiance is quirky! By the way, the second hand chandlery next door is worth a look-see.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped by this cafe after seeing it on Yelp. I was in the area shopping and needed to pick up lunch to take home for my husband and I. It's a 30 min drive and it was only 10:15am (too early for lunch menu). I ordered corn beef hash, to go. OMG it was so, so good. I've never had it before but I can't imagine anyone making it better. Nice chunky potatoes, tender flavorful corned beef and plenty of it! It was a hit with my husband. I can see why this place is so busy. It's worth the wait if there is a line.

J. M.

Yelp
We met friends here for a weekday late breakfast. The food and service were both excellent. The atmosphere is funky and fun. It is small, so we were glad we'd chosen 10am to meet. A little earlier would probably have also been okay. I would never try this place on a weekend unless it was warm and they had the outdoor seating open. Adjacent parking is limited. It might be necessary to park near the water (at the trailhead) and walk over. This is a working neighborhood, so watch for traffic!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and fun atmosphere. Generous portions and great tasting breakfast.

J F.

Yelp
What a great hidden gem! We went here early for breakfast after reading Yelp reviews. It was awesome! Located in a ship and dock yard, it was out of the way and looked a bit unusual. However, we decided to give it a try, and boy are we glad we did! A few picnic bench tables out front and 6 or 8 tables inside. They have an eclectic vibe. Lots of locals were there. The staff is super friendly and the menu is amazing! What a wonderful variety. Lots of veggie options for breakfast. I had the veggie scramble and it was so good! Hubby ordered the home made corned beef hash. It was amazing - so tender and flavorful! The meat melts in your mouth. Great seasoning - not too salty and nice and lean. We even saw the cook preparing 2 big pans of brisket for the next batch of corned beef - adding the spices and wrapping in foil to begin the slow cook process....now that's home made! No wonder it was so delicious. If in Port Townsend, seek out and try this place. We were here early but I think it gets busy later...it would be worth the wait though!!

Brynna H.

Yelp
This was a Super fun place! A whole lot of moose. Fun vibes, good people, great food! Was definitely a local sort of spot, would recommend!

Yelp
The coffee was decent. Breakfast was good and the staff was amazing. Parking was difficult.
