The Best Waterfront Restaurant Views in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Harumama’s picture-worthy character buns and Blue Ocean’s sashimi make this joint venture a delectable combination. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer diners a 180-degree view of La Jolla’s sprawling shoreline. Start off with some nigiri and light appetizers — consider the Japanese oysters or karaage chicken — before moving on to the mains such as sushi rolls, noodles, hot dishes, poke bowls, and salads. Don’t leave without trying a steamy character bao bun with animal designs (cow, pig, chicken, bunny, and unicorn). Take the fun home with a to-go bun box with either savory or sweet buns, or both." - Roxana Becerril

Brian Malarkey Delves Into Baja-Asian Street Food | Eater San Diego

"I experienced a seaside pairing in La Jolla where I entered through Harumama for noodles and buns, then strolled past the glassed-in sushi kitchen for a window seat at Blue Ocean Sushi to enjoy nigiri, hot entrees, and superb cove views with sake." - Keri Bridgwater

Adorable Asian Buns Pair With Sushi in La Jolla | Eater San Diego

"I enter into Harumama, the noodle and bun shop that burst onto the scene early last year and ignited Instagram feeds with its beyond-cute steamed buns shaped like animal characters that each hold a different filling: pink-nosed pigs hiding pork and caramelized onion, spotted cows encasing barbecued beef, polar bears with sweet red bean middles, and bee buns filled with egg custard. Its noodle offerings include truffle udon, yakisoba, and riffs on ramen based on pork, chicken, and vegetable broths, and other bites range from handheld folded buns stuffed with fried chicken or pork belly to dumplings and poke bowls; the owners also operate the poke shop Pokewan. Both eateries are open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with lunch specials available from noon to 3 p.m. and happy hour featured from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m." - Candice Woo

Google
This is hands down our favorite Asian spot in La Jolla — and honestly, probably in all of San Diego. The view from the restaurant is absolutely stunning, and the food is consistently excellent while still being very reasonably priced. They don’t take reservations, so you’ll want to come early and expect a line, but it’s completely worth the wait. The character buns are always a hit with kids — fun, cute, and delicious. I’ve been coming here for years and have tried almost every dish on the menu, and most of them are exceptionally cooked. The sushi rolls are fantastic — our favorite is the Padres roll (pictured). The salads are also great; the cucumber salad (also pictured) is so simple but incredibly fresh and tasty. If you’re looking for amazing food, great prices, and one of the best views in La Jolla, this is the place. Highly recommend — you won’t be disappointed!

Google
The food here was very good, the bulgogi fries were kind of soggy at the bottom, but very delicious nonetheless. The calamari was great, and the broths for the noodles were also amazing. Sushi rolls were also very flavorful. The dessert was good, but it’s more stunt food than anything amazing. Overall, I would come visit this place again, very enjoyable experience with a nice ocean view.

Google
Just great no complaints!!!! Amazing sushi with the ocean view, adult beverages as well can't beat it!! Shout out to Wyatt, great customer service, almost said we were now best friends. Treated my wife and 2yr old daughter with kindness and professionalism!!

Google
A bit pricey but everything we tried we loved aside from the piggy bao buns. It tasted more like an Italian meatball. My favorite side was the corn cheese! Best one I've had in SD. The chicken bun tacos were to die for too! Will definitely be back. Shout out to Sophia, best hostess and excellent customer service!! We were really impressed.

Victor Chang

Google
Chef hooked it up today. Kudos and thank you. The Omakase was beyond amazing, especially for the price. It was definitely worth it. The 2 collar items as appetizers are a steal for the price and quality. When I want sushi with a view in La Jolla I am coming here.

Google
Harumama is known for their ramen and cute animal-designed buns and the vibes by ocean are just perfect. It felt like customer service was a bit slow when we visited but maybe because we were just starving for food. Either way, it was a great way to wrap up the day after visiting Torrey Pines day. The yellowtail jalapeno roll is fresh and flavorful with a tangy sauce. The grilled hanachi kama tasted soft, and the ribeye terayaki was a flavor blast with the softest beef pieces. The character buns are adorable, memorable, and tasty. The bun is so soft and both the cow beef and bunny Nutella buns are a great pick!

Google
Good spot and good service. The view of the ocean is for sure the best part. Food is pretty good, I got ramen and my friends loved their meals. We did share their very popular animal buns, I was not a fan and I wouldn't get them again. Pretty overpriced too. Nothing about this place really stood out. I'd come here again for that view....

Xristian Gonzalez

Google
Well priced and good food. Least favorite item was the pork boa’s. The view is amazing and the atmosphere is perfect for a photo op.

Yelp
Very good and fresh sushi and such. Quick service and great views. A bit cold with the AC.

Yelp
Honestly, Blue Ocean totally exceeded my expectations. The prices were actually super reasonable for how good everything tasted, way cheaper than I thought it'd be! Every dish came out fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can tell they really care about quality. The sushi was perfect, the noodles had great texture, and the bao buns were adorable and delicious. The vibe was relaxed, the staff was friendly, and it's the kind of spot you leave already planning your next visit. Definitely coming back again soon!

Yelp
Cute date night spot in La Jolla. Recommended order would be the Drunken Noodle. It's a good amount of food and tasted good. Not spicy at all even though there's 2 spicy fire icon warning. The Hawaiian specialty roll was pretty good, there was alot of crab and the had a good balance of flavors between the crab and the tuna. Not a fan of the crunchy shrimp bao - the bao was dry and fell apart easily and there was on solo shrimp per bao. flavor was fine, the pickled cucumbers really pulled it together. The Tokyo peach speciality drink was good but nothing to remember.

Yelp
Firstly I loved the aesthetic and vibes of the restaurant! Wasn't too busy Saturday around 12:30PM, but all the tables along the window were full so we decided to sit in the second row closest instead of being put on the waitlist. The two of us shared the following dishes: Crunch shrimp roll ($13): good, lots of tempura flakes Cow (beef) buns: savory and the beef was on the sweeter side Haru ramen: unfortunately I really didn't enjoy this one, the tonkatsu broth itself was good but the flavor of the ramen overall was more sour and I didn't like the flavor. Lots of corn and wood ear mushrooms which was nice Service was good and fast. Parking is as expected in La Jolla. Overall, I would come back for the view!

Yelp
Possibly the best poke I had while out in Cali. The fish was super fresh, all ingredients actually were and it was super delicious. The server was also nice and seating outside with a view of the water (but far enough to not smell it) was amazing. They even turned on the heaters for us because it does get a little chilly outside. The only reason this place isn't a five star is because my friends noodles took forever to make. My poke took around 30mins, by the time her food came out I was almost done with mine so I know her experience wasn't the best and it kinda ruined it for her. I'd say please specify you want both meals at the same time when ordering even if it's different things and hopefully they don't take as long as they did with her food.

Yelp
My friends and I had a great experience here! We waited a bit longer for a window seat and it did not disappoint. The view of the ocean was beautiful. Food was also good ! We enjoyed sharing the character buns. My personal favorites was the pork bun for savory and the bunny (nutella) for dessert. The buns were not too large or small, had a good propotion of meat to bun, and I loved how soft the buns were! We also enjoyed the bulgogi fries, which was larger than we thought and flavorful, as well as some ramen and udon, which everyone enjoyed. Our waiter was also very attentive and checked in on us often. Parking may be a hassle since it is by the beach. But street parking is available. So I recommend carpooling.
google avatar

Mariam R.

Yelp
Such a beautiful spot with an incredible ocean view--definitely worth coming early to snag a window seat! The food was delicious and reasonably priced, which was a nice surprise. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the bunny bun (wish it had more Nutella), but everything else really hit the spot. Absolutely loved their bulgogi fries and ramen. I had to come 2 weekends in a row to try some of my faves. Great place overall!
google avatar

Elisa L.

Yelp
Super aesthetic and spacious inside and the ocean view is beautiful! Came around 12:30 on a Saturday and we were seated right away. There would've been a 30-40 min wait if we wanted to sit along the window. We shared the crunch shrimp roll, cow buns and haru ramen. The crunch shrimp roll came with lots of pieces and it was good. The cow buns were soft, chewy and came with a good amount of beef filling. However, I didn't enjoy the ramen since the overall taste and smell was too sour for me. It did come with lots of toppings like chicken, corn and mushrooms. Service was quick and nice.

Yelp
Asian Fusion with a view worth savoring. A few weeks ago, I found myself here on a nearly perfect Southern Cali day...sunny, warm, and just breezy enough to feel like a reward. I'd visited other locations before, but this time I specifically came for the views and a serious sushi craving. This spot is extra special because it's perched over La Jolla Cove, where you can see and hear sea lions lounging below. The universe smiled on me with one of the best patio tables, fresh and fabulous sushi, and genuinely friendly service. Harumama is known for its playful character buns, comforting ramen, and vibrant sushi offerings which include omakase boxes. I've always appreciated that their food isn't just cute but it's actually delicious. Here, the quality of the dishes lives up to the stunning ocean backdrop. Parking can be a bit tricky with so many businesses nearby, but there's free street parking right out front, otherwise paid structures and valet are also available. If you love Asian fusion and breathtaking coastal views, this place deserves a spot on your San Diego itinerary.

Yelp
We had an excellent time and experienced top quality service. Our server treated us very well and took care of our table. I recommend ordering the Padre roll it was by far my favorite and most delicious sushi roll we had! I recommend putting your name on the list and then walking to George's on the Cove and ordering a cocktail.
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
The food is good but the service leaves a lot to be desired. When we arrived, we saw a server go into the restroom with the order tablet with her. Turned out that was our server with a potentially germy device now being touched along with our dishes and cups that night. We went here specifically because of the beautiful view and gluten free noodles for someone in our group. The restaurant seemed clean and a little empty while we were there for dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
The poke bowls were so fresh and filled with so many fresh ingredients. It was lovely enjoying a light brunch while looking out at the water.
google avatar

Samir C.

Yelp
We found this place wandering around La Jolla, looking for a happy hour. Unfortunately, it was Friday, and the happy hour here is Mon-Thu. They had other specials, so we went in. We had a booth overlooking the cove beach. We could see the sea lions but didn't have to put up with the smell. The view is amazing. The staff is very attentive. We had half off yellowtail sashimi and some rolls. We went back the next week for happy hour. The karaage was soft and didn't taste good but everything else was fantastic. My wife wants to go every week.
google avatar

Jericho D.

Yelp
We got lucky with outdoor seating and the view was so nice -- definitely a highlight. There were three of us, and the staff was super friendly and on top of things. Food was mostly good! The sashimi bento was fresh, the piggy buns were cute, and everything came out looking great. Only thing we didn't love was the calamari -- could've been crispier. My boyfriend thought the food overall was just okay, but I still enjoyed it. Prices were decent and the area's really cute, lots of other spots and shops around. Chill place to eat, would come back just for the vibes and view honestly.
google avatar

Mikey S.

Yelp
Dinner was not bad but it fell short of expectations. Main issue was my girl and I were sat at a very large table fit for about 8 people. Shortly after we're seated, we saw a booth clear up by the window, so we asked if we could move. The waiter kindly went to ask and then came back to let us know there was a wait and we could not move there. Nobody sat there for 20 minutes.... There were even tables empty that could seat 4 people that they could have sat us at. It just felt awkward being only 2 people at a huge table. As far as the food, the pork belly bar was quite good but everything else from the sushi, to the noodles, to the calamari was just okay. It wasn't enough to complain about necessarily but it fell short of expectations for the caliber of restaurant.
google avatar

Malia R.

Yelp
I loved my time here at Blue Ocean/Harumama. The hostess was sweet to my friends and I and tried to give us a good spot closer to the window. We had been helped by a very sweet kid and was very personable with us. Our meals were all very different, but we each enjoyed what we got. My friend got the omakase box and I got the specialty sushi, and both were super flavorful. My other friend wasn't as hungry, so she got the chicken buns and said they had good flavor as well. The interior felt super comfortable and had a great atmosphere. I will be back to this location to try their other bites.
google avatar

Kassandra L.

Yelp
The character bao buns were so cute and tasty! Everything we ordered was delicious. We also got to sit next to the window where you have a beautiful view of the ocean. I'd come back and reorder everything again but maybe skip the ramen.
google avatar

Ally O.

Yelp
Walked in wanted an outside table and was told the wait was around 30 minutes, time was accurate and wow oh wow they sat me with their best possible view! They were kind and efficient, I didn't feel rushed. The omakase box I highly recommend, so fresh and tender, the eel was my favorite so I got another order of it. The Hawaiian roll was filling with the blue crab on the inside and tuna on the outside. And the drinks were refreshing. For the pricing, so fair and affordable compared to most places with a view and location like this. The buns soft but were a tad dry but the sauce they brought with it helped, the calamari was not my favorite. Ended on the sushi and was happy overall.

Yelp
This restaurant has a spectacular view. Only some booths next to the windows overseeing La Jolla Cove. It is a big restaurant with tables inside and out. The restaurant offers delicious variety of sushi, sashimi, ramen, noodles and their famous character bao buns. Quality of the food is excellent, worth the price even though is super affordable for being in La Jolla. High quality for the sashimi and poke. Character Bao buns were made to point, pork chicken and nutella. Service is always great. We do come on the weekdays though for lunch and dont need to make reservations. I suggest making reservations for the weekend. Parking is street parking (very challenging) so we just pay for parking in one of the paid public parking. We do a yesrly visit here to celebrate a special birthday.

Yelp
I've ordered takeout from this spot regularly, and it's become one of my sushi staples. The rolls are always packed with a generous amount of fish not your typical tiny maki and the quality is consistently fresh and flavorful. As someone with a gluten allergy, I really appreciate that they don't pre-sauce their rolls, making it super easy to order safely. I will say, the only thing that keeps me from giving a full 5 stars is the inconsistency in how the rolls are made. Sometimes they're a bit loosely wrapped or heavy on the rice and not enough fish. But tonight? I was extremely happy and impressed with the quality and amount of fish in each roll. Everything was tightly rolled, well-balanced, and looked beautiful. If every order came like this, I'd be thrilled every time. For the quality and convenience, I keep coming back and will continue to. A solid choice if you're craving good sushi takeout!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
I have recommended so many people here. I have gone here for a couple years and I always LOVE Beautiful ocean view I have tried so many things off their menu and everything is amazing!
google avatar

Coral P.

Yelp
My family and I came to Harumama for the fun bun designs. They did not disappoint! There are several bun designs, we ordered angry chicken which has spicy chicken inside, the cow buns which has a beef mix inside, and the seasonal snowman buns which have pistachio white chocolate inside. Delicious and cute! We sat at a table by the window with a great ocean view, however there is a huge wall on the inside that made it hard for our waiter to see us when we needed refills and were ready to order. This location is great if you're making an afternoon/evening out of it. The parking is hectic and good luck finding a spot in less than 30 minutes. If you eat here I recommend walking around and checking out other shops and the waterfront to make the most of the parking situation, it's always busy in this area. The buns were worth the hassle though!
google avatar

Kevin F.

Yelp
Blue Ocean Harumama was such a great find! The atmosphere is fun and lively, and the food was both creative and delicious. One of the highlights of the meal were the character buns! we tried the chicken-shaped ones, and not only were they adorable, but they were also soft, fresh, and packed with flavor. They're the kind of dish that makes you smile before you even take a bite. Beyond the food, the service really made the experience memorable. Our server, Gloriann, did an outstanding job. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without us having to ask. Her timing was perfect and her recommendations helped us pick some great dishes. Between the creative menu and the excellent service, this was easily one of the better dining experiences I've had in San Diego. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the buns and the rest of the menu. (Plus outside seating is beautiful)
google avatar

Kristine L.

Yelp
Amazing views and great food! I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The location is gorgeous, especially with the ocean view. We didn't have a window seat, but the view was still fantastic. Valet parking made things super convenient. They don't take reservations, so we had a 40-minute wait for our party of 7. Service was solid, and the food was really tasty--those character buns were a hit, especially with the toddlers! I had the haruramen, which was incredible, and the bulgogi fries were delicious too. The unicorn ube bun was my favorite, though the chicken came in a close second. Great spot to bring out-of-town guests, and it's definitely kid-friendly.

Yelp
I can't believe it's been two years since I've been here. Having had a positive experience last time, I came with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. I called ahead saying that we had a group of 8 ppl and they said they can accommodate if we come early before the rush. My friends came early and got an amazing table next to the window. We came specifically for the happy hour but they took a long time to come over that we only had 3 mins to place our order! We did it, but the waitress did not put all of our order under happy hour. Luckily the waitress who checked us out, corrected it. We ordered many of the items on the happy menu which were: Potstickers Karaage Chicken Grilled Salmon Kama - Big portion for happy hour Sashimi salad - Also a nice portion size Seaweed Salad Happy Sushi Combo - Loved this item! You get quite a few pieces for 22 dollars. Crunchy Salmon Roll, California Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll Of course, we got the character buns and my faves were the chicken and Nutella. They're so adorable! One big con for this visit, which is why I dropped this review a few stars, was the service. They didn't check up on us about halfway through the dinner service. We constantly asked for water, said that they ran out of wine glasses because we were missing some wine (we had to consolidate our wine so that we can get the wine we ordered), and we had to ask knife to cut our character buns. This is the first time I've ever had a restaurant saying they ran out of wine glasses! The restaurant wasn't even full and everyone wasn't drinking wine in the restaurant. I still don't understand why there's a lack of wine glasses. The lack of service toward the end was unfavorable. Some of the time when we saw our waitress, we tried to catch her attention, but she would turn away, like she was avoiding us. I love this place and the food, but there's other Harumama restaurants in SD and other restaurants that I can try out. I think I'll wait a few years before I come back.

Yelp
LADIES LADIES IF I SHAKE MY OMAKASE BOX WILL U LET ME DO MY WORK TYPE SHIFT!!! i feel like that mustve been what johan was thinking the entire time he was waiting on us because i fear we were BOTHERING HIM! he was such a fun guy tho and we were so glad to be humored by him ‍ because he told us a lot about the inner workings of the music playlist going on at this place... the secret of which is A LOT OF IT IS PANDORA RADIO! yeah... we heard a few crazy vibe shifts such as adele's someone like you right into WEEZER BUDDY HOLLY... LINKIN PARK's in the end into.... ISRAEL KAMAKAWIWO'OLE's SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW???????? head over heels laughing in our corner ok. the food was great too tho genuinely one of the best sushi places ive ever had outside of japan, phenomenal fish quality at a great price for the 9pc omakase box!!! that is my top recommendation. for $55 that was a huge steal especially getting uni and toro in our pieces WOOOOOO!!!!! my friend also got the japanese oysters and said they were good, i think they come with ponzo masago and green onions on a raw oyst' and he said the oyster itself was great sooooooo. PERIOD!!! that seaside window view is SPLENDERIFOUS, as well, so yes the ambiance is one of a kind... also all of the staff seem really great!!! i didnt catch her name but one of the front of house people got me a water while i was waiting to be seated THANK U BFF!!! and on our way out a runner told us to have a FANTASTIC DAY!!! :D WE TOTALLY DID, DUDE!!!! Yelp
Love, love, love Harumama. It's not only a beautiful location in La Jolla but the food is always delicious. I have only gotten the ramen, and it never disappoints. I recently tried their Crispy chicken Ramen and the chicken was so yummy! Also their character buns are so cute.
google avatar

Jeslyn L.

Yelp
The sushi was fresh and tasted great! This location is nice as it is just by La Jolla Cove. They have window seating that overlooks the ocean. I enjoyed the animal buns they also have and each one has different filling.
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday evening around 5pm and was able to be seated right away. You might have to wait if you want an ocean view seat. Though the restaurant wasn't totally packed, our server did seem to be in a rush and not attending to us as often as he maybe could have. I got the veggie potsticker appetizer. It was tasty but I didn't feel it was anything too special. It's also over $10 for 5 pieces. I felt that the filling was more salty than anything, and even though it was supposed to be in a chili-garlic stock, it wasn't spicy at all. Pretty one sided in flavor and texture profile too. The part that was unique was the taro chips on top, those were good.
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
this place is a nice layout and the buns were very cute animal characters, but other than that, I don't think we would return. The actual flavor of the buns was very plain and I feel like the food is overpriced and not really that great. my husband ordered the spicy peanut Ramen and did not like it did not finish it. the sashimi was really good. Also, one of the drawers to this place is the ocean view, but we came at night and waited over an hour for a table and by the time we got a window table, but you could not see anything because how dark it was outside. also, it was super loud inside, which isn't horrible but good to note. overall, for the price and waiting time it wasn't worth it because the actual food and experience wasn't that great.
google avatar

Chloe K.

Yelp
food was decent, service good, vibes r good the view is great, i think ppl mostly go for the views ! overall good food and place for trying but probably won't come back
google avatar

Glynnis K.

Yelp
This is one of the best sushi spots in all of San Diego. I ordered the salmon poke bowl and the flavors were fresh and complimented each other with every bite. The restaurant has one of the most beautiful ocean front views of La Jolla cove you will find in the area. The service is quick and the waiters are sweet. This is a must try spot in La Jolla for your next night out.
google avatar

Sally L.

Yelp
Perched above the stunning La Jolla Cove, Blue Ocean delivers both spectacular ocean views and exceptional value. The omakase bento fish was pristine, the presentation flawless, and at $55, it's an incredible value for this quality and location. As my friend from Boston would say, it's a bah-gain! Please note there was a minor issue with the salmon which wasn't as fresh. Perfect blend of exceptional food and breathtaking oceanfront scenery.

Yelp
Harumama is a Japanese restaurant with a great view overlooking La Jolla. I came on a weekday during lunch with friends and to get a window seat it does take some time. We got the animal buns, bao buns, and ramen. The bao buns were the best out of all three and was so juicy. They added sauces and pickled vegetables that gave it a crunch and nice acidity to the richness of the fatty meat. There are many other better ramen options in San Diego so I wouldn't order it again. The animal buns were a little dry and the meat was not tender and had little flavor. Service was a little slow and it took 30 minutes to get water. The food came out randomly so my friend got their food when we all were done with our entrees. A fun date spot with yummy bao buns but I wouldn't order anything else on the menu.
google avatar

Vesta B.

Yelp
Came here for my friend's birthday dinner and it was my first time coming here and it was absolutely delicious! I was so excited to try their food so I got different options and it was plenty to share. Their food portions are big so definitely shareable. The animal buns were so cute! The restaurant was really big. They had plenty of tables and seating. If you sit next to the window you can watch the ocean. The service was excellent and our server was absolutely nice and helpful. He constantly checked on us to make sure that we had everything we needed. Everything that I got was amazing and I honestly can't wait to go back and try more items off their menu!
google avatar

Yelp
What a wonderful experience dining at this restaurant, food are awesome with complementary dessert for birthday celebrant ( not all the food we ordered in the pictures)Great view, too! I need to acknowledge Wyatt for his exceptional service.

Terrence S.

Yelp
This place does not take reservations but luckily there was plenty of space when we came for lunch on a Monday at noon. It is difficult to find parking, but sometimes you can get lucky finding a spot at the front, or you'll have to find street parking, sometimes at least a block or two away. The view by the far side of the restaurant is very nice as it captures the beach and ocean, sometimes even with the sea lions on the rocks. I had the rainbow spider roll and a chicken karaage for the appetizer. Both were decent. The mix of fish in the roll was fresh and there was a good amount, though it is on the pricier side for the amount given. I wish the chicken karaage batter was thinner, and I wish there was more ginger flavor, but the amount of chicken was pretty good and tasted great with the garlic aioli sauce.
google avatar

Kathryn W.

Yelp
Vibes here are unbeatable! We came here without a reservation and took us about an hour to get seated. I would come and get the omakase box over and over again. The portion was great and selection of fish was really well thought out. It had all the pieces I like. I'm not a drinker but their cocktail was yummy.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Harumama, but unfortunately, my visit this past weekend was disappointing. We waited about 40 minutes to be seated--not unreasonable for a Friday--but the experience quickly went downhill from there. Our server, Glo, gave off a strong "I don't want to be here" vibe from the start, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable. We were told the bartender had called out, so Glo was also making the drinks. We placed our drink orders as soon as we sat down, but they didn't arrive until we were more than halfway through our meal. When she finally brought them over, she said, "If they're too sweet, let me know"--and unfortunately, they were pretty bad. The food itself was just okay, nowhere near as memorable as I remembered from past visits. The worst part of the experience came at the end. We asked to split the bill evenly, which came out to $67 each. We paid and began to leave, only to be stopped at the door by Glo, who said, in front of other customers, "Wait, I didn't charge you enough--that's why the meal was so cheap." It was embarrassing and unprofessional. We then had to re-run our cards, this time for $100 each. Between the poor service, the long wait for drinks, average food, and the awkward handling of the bill, this experience left a really bad impression. I hope this feedback helps improve the service and training going forward, but honestly, I'm not sure I'll be back.

Yelp
Came by a few weeks ago and loved it! The service was pretty good, with the waitress making sure if the meal was good and checking up on us. The interior was amazing! It has nice seatings and decorations with mainstream music playing in the background. The food was really good and affordable! I would definitely recommend coming here if you want a nice and casual dinner with affordable pricing!

Yelp
Service - amazing Venue - ok, it looks clean and new though the bathrooms were not cleaned and not stocked. Has an ocean view though for a low price range. Food - matches the price range. Pretty mid overall, has some fun sounding items but everything we ate ended up disappointing. Cocktails are simple or from a can. Sushi sounded good but was too soupy (for real) and lacked interesting flavor. The buns also sounded fun and unique, a fun fusion - but man, they just all have a paste of blandness inside. About on par with the quality of frozen buns from an asian market. As a chinese person, I'm down for fusion if done well. This was not done well. This was... dry while pasty and not a good mix of fillings - even the dessert buns are disappointing (I expected cream texture but some mostly bun with... again, a layer of dryish mild paste). Maybe my expectations were too high. It is rare to find a truly well done American asian fusion. Best thing on the menu was the spam baos. Actually tasted like a popeyes chicken sandwich in bao form somehow. And it wasn't too dry! The bao is a solid 8.9/10. The rest of the food.... around 5-6/10. 3 stars mainly because the good service carries.

Yelp
Food was decent. Me so hot was kinda greasy. Service was good. The bao was ok. Overall a pretty decent spot.

Yelp
We were so excited to try Harumama again. My fiancé and I had it before in San Diego and loved it. We were really looking forward to some delicious ramen with that rich, flavorful broth we remembered. Unfortunately, this time was a huge letdown. The broth was bland, the flavor just wasn't there, and even the bao buns, which I usually love but were so bad we couldn't finish them. I rarely leave food on my plate, but I took one bite and couldn't keep going. That says a lot. Service was slow and not very welcoming, which only added to the disappointment. The only redeeming part of the experience was the view. Definitely not worth it for the food or service

Yelp
Mom and I wanted some La Jolla sushi by the water view and wow were we more than impressed. Won't forget the flavors I experienced here! Love the layout that you can see the chefs at work when you walk in. Beautiful seating and playing arrangements. You can request the window view of the ocean but we didn't want to wait an extra 30 min. Our server was super sweet and nice. Took the time to point out the different types of fish so we knew what we were eating with my omakase. Love the ginger marinade that comes with. The raw oysters were so bomb. Never had oysters with masago on it so it was pretty good. No overwhelming horseradish flavor over here. The omakase was WOW. Everything melted in your mouth (especially the toro, albacore, and tuna). Nothing had an overly fishy aftertaste except maybe salmon but that's cause everything was so fresh. The bar was high. We enjoyed everything and were thoroughly impressed. We needed to order an extra side of toro nigiri. Everything was gone so fast! Go to spot for some nice quality sushi.

Yelp
If you are looking for a dining experience with a great view, this place is a must. Located next to the shores of La Jolla, be sure to get a reservation for a window seating and you won't be disappointed. We enjoyed the spicy garlic edamame (they were addicting) and the calamari for appetizers. Both the seafood salad and cucumber salad were refreshing. I got the Padres roll in honor of the Padres in San Diego, and the rolls were as bomb as the team itself. Highly recommend! We also got two bottles of sake, which are very reasonably priced ($18 per bottle, unfortunately don't remember exactly what we ordered). Parking in La Jolla can be quite difficult. We found a parking spot in front of Jersey Mikes that was free after 6PM (shout out to Jersey Mikes for making our awesome dining experience at Blue Ocean possible).

Yelp
WORST SERVICE EVER!!! 40 minutes waiting for a table, server mess up with the order then they never came back with the item that we ordered, the server never asked if we needed more water or beverages, I have to keep asking for water or something that we needed! I asked for the manager because they didn't realized they never bring back our order. Honestly I understand they are young servers but they need to improved a lot ! We received 3 water glasses dirty !!!! And the server never come back to take out the dirty dishes !!! Plus bad attitude from the server When I asked for the manager, another server came to our table saying he was the server! When the server came back, she took out her badge ! Guilty!!!!! On the recipe shows up her name JENNIFER They need a better management. They didn't have any manager available!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by Blue Ocean - Harumama. For a restaurant in a prime location (gorgeous views overlooking the water), it's reasonably priced and the food is fresh, comes out super quick and was delicious. We ordered everything from the character buns to sushi and noodles. The best things were probably the sushi - fish is fresh and artfully prepared. My favorite was the Hawaiian roll: the blue crab inside was generously portioned! The weakest dish we ordered were the drunken noodles - I'd skip next time. But we loved the poke bowl and I was surprised at how good the character buns were! I was expecting them to be sort of a gimmick to get people in, but the flavor of them (we tried the Cow and Bunny buns) was great! I can see why people complain about the service. Our server was very polite as were the folks who brought our food but the same individuals seemed to never remember when we would say they could just put it on the table anywhere there was space because we were sharing. And at one point we needed a fork but there was not a single server in the dining room so my husband just got up and got one himself. That plus it being nearly impossible to find parking near by without paying $15-45 for valet and I probably won't be hurrying back.

Yelp
Salmon, protein power bowl is mid- too much sauce for my liking. Everything is fresh and good otherwise. Roll was really good. I got my food to go but it was a nice vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
