"Blue Onyx Bistro, an upscale seafood and steak restaurant, will debut near the Galleria next month. The restaurant, designed by Nicole Niu, features a rich blue color scheme. Chef David Chang will focus on aesthetically pleasing dishes like 35-day house-dried aged ribeye steak, sea bass dusted with parmesan, and grouper filet with bacon wrapped scallops. The restaurant can accommodate 150 guests and will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m." - Alaena Hostetter

Thank you for a fabulous Birthday dinner for my daughter Erica. The food, the service, the atmosphere was first class. Our waitress Stephanie was always attentive and very personable. Everyone enjoyed their meals which were beautiful presented as well as delicious. They set up our flower centerpiece and cake in a semi private area in the patio and the management made sure to check on us and light our cake. Awesome beautiful interior.

Our anniversary dinner was amazing! My husband went on Yelp to find a restaurant for us and this one did NOT disappoint! We had the Watermelon Basil w/ smoked Mezcal and a Paloma for drinks. For starters we had the shrimp bisque (must have) and crab in garlic butter! For our entrees we both had fish and they were both prepared perfectly! I had the King of The Sea and my husband had the House Smoked Snapper with Zucchini instead of bacon wrapped asparagus. This is a 10/10, for sure!

Go for the sushi!!!!! The drinks were mostly sweet and blah, but the sushi and everything else we ate was delicious! You can even ask the chef for a customized roll! You get about 11 pieces- So. Much. Sushi!! We met and had great conversation with the managers AND the chef!!! Such a great experience. The chef came out to chat with everyone and hear opinions about his food- to me that is very commendable as he was wanting to make sure his customers are satisfied and if there are any changes or additions to his menu we can offer! Chef David, such a great guy!

Ambiance was very nice. Plenty of parking spaces and very visible from a distance. The menu has plenty of options to choose from but they seem to be known for their seafood. Pricing is very fair for fine-dine seafood. I had the ribs and blue crab fingers for the appetizer which is were both delicious. As for my entree I had the Hawaiian Flounder and subbed the mixed veggies for mash potatoes. The fish and sauce was on point and tasted amazing. The mash potatoes caught me by surprise but it was also very good. The chef came by and made some recommendations and all of his recs were not disappointing at all. He recommended the Alaskan King Crab and the Chef Chang Seabass which my other guest had and absolutely loved it. I would definitely be coming back again to try the other dishes. The only critique I have is have cleaner menu or laminate the menu so it won't stain but besides that everything went great for a valentine dinner.

I came with my best friend for Houston Restaurant Weeks and this was our first stop. I don’t remember my first course, but for my entree I had the veal & lobster tail and my friend had the halibut I think. The flavors in the sauces were great, the only problem is I started to feel queasy about halfway through the meal. I had the bread pudding for dessert, hoping the sugar would curb my nausea, but it didn’t. The bread pudding was still delicious, would recommend. The service was quick and friendly, no complaints there. I also had a dirty martini to drink, which wasn’t nearly dirty enough. Four stars overall, which I think is generous.

I've had the best food of my life at Blue Onyx! The flavors, creativity, quality, and presentation of the food were amazing! The seafood tasted really fresh and I would highly recommend the chili oil ravioli dish and truffle pasta (handmade fresh noodles)! They were some of the many memorable dishes that I was surprised by! Customer service was also really amazing. I highly recommend eating here!

First at this new restaurant in the Galleria/Uptown area of Houston. We were fortunate to be seated in between meals 3pmish on Panic Saturday. Meals were tasty and not expensive like other restaurants in the vicinity. The Flaming Cedar Plank Salmon was really flaming (see pics). The Rib-eye tasted great. My Prime Rib was decent. A little tough around the fatty parts. Not sure if it was the knife. The sauces for the PR were a nice compliment. All I all, it was a great meal with great, friendly attention from all levels of the staff in a nice ambience. Recommend reservations for evenings. Even at only one month in business they were booked out after 6pm in Saturday - even the bar. I heard many were regulars so repeat business (good sign for a restaurant). Decor is awesome with a mix of trendy with old school touches. Enjoy!
