Walked in, no other choices for dinner on a Monday night in Millinocket, and felt like I was making a mistake, but decided to stay for a beer. Had the ambience of a place long past it's prime, much like me. Struck up a conversation with the owner/ bartender who is a fascinating, entertaining and accommodating character. He convinced me to order a pizza from down the street and have it delivered to the bar, great idea!
He moved to Millinocket from upstate NY twenty years ago and built the bar himself. He explained that Millinocket was the town with the highest per capita income and Budweiser consumption in the 1990's. So much so that the town was visited by the Clydesdales .... then the paper mill closed 12 years ago. Now it's a mixture of hard-on-their-luck locals, and those on there way to and from Baxter State park. Worth the visit just to talk to the owner. If Millinocket had a museum, he would be the curator.
