13 Scenic U.S. Train Rides for Fall Foliage Views

"The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway begins at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia, and takes riders on a four-hour, 26-mile round-trip journey along the Toccoa River through the northern Georgia countryside. The railway offers a choice between traditional closed cars (featuring large picture windows) and open-air cars, for riders who want to breathe in the crisp mountain air while admiring the autumn colors. The journey starts with a one-hour trip to McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee, neighboring mountain towns situated on the state line. Travelers enjoy a two-hour "layover" there before making the one-hour return trip through the scenic forest and back to the depot in Blue Ridge." - Travel + Leisure Editors

3 Best Day Trips from Atlanta

"This historic train leaves from the 1905-built depot in downtown Blue Ridge. The bright blue engine pulls a line of open-air and climate-controlled rail cars through the Chattahoochee National Forest for a two-hour “layover” in Copperhill, Tennessee. The 26-mile round trip overlooks the Toccoa River for most of the way. Guests can typically walk up to the depot counter to purchase a ticket on the spot, but themed rides (like the popular Santa Express) sell out early, so advanced tickets are a good idea. The scenery along the Toccoa River is beautiful, so anywhere you look (no matter the season), you’re likely to have a great view." - Jennifer Bradley Franklin

This independent railway rolls along the Toccoa River from a 1905 depot to twin border towns and back. Regularly highlighted by Condé Nast Traveler, it’s an easygoing ride with seasonal themes and time to wander in McCaysville/Copperhill.

Very relaxing & scenery was good. Wasn’t as exciting as I thought it’d be tho. A/C in closed car was great. Host was great. Plenty of clean bathrooms. Plenty alcohol & sodas to buy. Train was clean & on time. Lots to do in layover town. Plenty shopping! Lots to eat too. Great views at some places. We ate at Kenny’s pizza & subs which were phenomenal & prices there were great too with huge portions. Back to train that allows you back on 30 minutes before leaving if you’d like. They left for going back home right on time. It was a great day!!!

I recently had one of the best experiences I've had in a long time! If you decide to go, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to park and check in. I suggest buying your tickets online to make things easier. We chose to take the open-air train since it was a nice day—the closed cars cost the same, so why not enjoy the fresh air? During the hour-long ride to the Tennessee/Georgia state line, we sat on the riverside of the car and enjoyed the scenery. We saw deer and geese along the way. People fishing in the river and even folks at their homes waved at us as we passed by. Once we arrived in Copperhill, we had two hours to explore. We ate at a local restaurant (I won’t name it since I'm not reviewing it), but I recommend taking your time and not just settling for the first place you see. We wandered around a couple of shops, picked up some souvenirs, and then got back on the train for the return ride. It was so peaceful that I even dozed off for a few minutes! After we got back to the station, we lingered in town for a bit and did some more shopping. I highly recommend this trip—it's enjoyable for people of all ages. It was truly a great experience!

Google
This was a nice family adventure. The people on the train were so kind and helpful. There was a snack car, and history lessons along the way. The train departed on time both ways. We enjoyed the city shared by Georgia and Tennessee, it was pretty cool. It was definitely a worthy adventure.

Google
My brother and I decided on the spur of the moment to take the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway trip. While $110 for a 26 mile round trip seemed a bit pricey, our rail car narrator, “Magic Mike,” entertained us for all two hours with magic tricks, jokes and amusing stories. If you decide to take this trip, look for Magic Mike. He’s terrific.

This is definitely a must-do if you’re in the Blue Ridge area, such a fun experience! However, calling it a “scenic” railway is a little misleading. There are a couple riding options for the railway- you can sit inside enclosed rail cars or open air ones. We visited in early spring so no way were we sitting in the open air in 30 degrees. But during the summer months that would be a really cool option. What I didn’t like is that they promote seeing “mountains”- when you sit in the rail cars, they have a sign on each side, one saying you can see the river through those windows, and the other the mountains. But this was not the mountains. It’s mountains like you find in the midwest, perhaps- aka rolling hills. And houses along the hills. The river side was definitely scenic and beautiful but that felt very dishonest calling it a scenic railway in the mountains but you genuinely don’t see any mountains. Anyway. Our guide was very nice and there’s a bit of history telling along the way. It’s about an hour ride each way, and you get 2 hours across the border in Tennessee before you head back. This is truly all for the experience, as you could literally drive to this town from blue ridge in probably 20-30 minutes, and the train takes half a day. And don’t worry, the train does have bathrooms if needed. I’m not sure I’d pay this price again- we paid $60 per person and it honestly was fun to do once and say we did it but I think that’s too high of a price for what you get.

My family and I went on this train ride after it came highly recommended by our friends. The train departs promptly at 10:00 AM. If you've pre-booked your tickets, you can pick them up starting at 9:00 AM, and boarding begins around 9:30 AM. Seating is not assigned—it's first come, first served. The train offers a few seating options: an enclosed area for sightseeing, an open-air section, and a VIP area, which is only available for passengers aged 18 and over. There's also a concession stand where you can purchase snacks and drinks, but you're welcome to bring your own as well. The train is labeled with “mountain side” and “river side” seating. Despite the label, the mountain side mostly features views of trees and the occasional house. The river side, on the other hand, offers more scenic views. On the return trip, the sides switch, so if you sit on the river side going, you'll be on the mountain side coming back. The train travels at around 20 mph and takes about an hour to reach Tennessee. Once there, passengers have two hours to explore. However, two hours felt too short—three would’ve been better. When we arrived, most people rushed to find food, and the lines were long. By the time we finished eating, it was already past noon. We only had a little time to walk around before needing to return to board the train. The return trip, on the mountain side, wasn’t very visually engaging, and there wasn’t much narration during the ride—just occasional pre-recorded announcements. A guide chimed in now and then with brief information, but not much detail was shared.

Google
absolutely amazing, we had the oldest car on the track (i think it was 1939?) refurbished ofcourse, AC blew cold, the open car behind us wasn’t rented so we got to experience the open car too, and our car guide was super knowledgeable and genuinely had a love for it, he wore a cowboy hat i couldn’t remember his name, super great time! beautiful views and a once in a lifetime experience for sure

Google
Nice experience! They serve drinks and coffee in premium seating. Popcorn available for purchase. We got the premium seating. However the open air seating was a better experience with wind on your face. Beautiful views of the river and parks.

Yelp
TOOT! TOOT! All aboard for the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. It was a foggy, chilly morning for the 60 minute ride from Blue Ridge Ga to McCaysville Ga. An old time choo choo but very warm and cozy inside. Right down to the big cushy red velvet seats. It's like you stepped back in time. After pulling out of the train station you're offered beverages of coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks. Then comes a very nice individually wrapped and very fresh charcuterie board to enjoy while watching the country side, rivers, mountains and farm land go by. Oh and the conductor was awesome. Entertaining the car with insightful stories of different towns and historical landmarks, all the while injecting his own funny jokes. You had to stay on yours toes to know if it was real or a funny. And if you choose to, make your way back to the Bar Car for some adult beverages, snacks and souvenirs. But beware. The clickety clack of the wheels and the gentle side to side rocking of the car. You might doze off and miss the scenery. lol A very nice way the spend the day.

Yelp
What a fun weekend activity for the family! I recently took a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway with my husband, in-laws, and my parents and we had a great time! The train ride was a steady speed and the conductors provided historic information on the homes, farms and other property along the track. The train had decent snacks on board for purchase, as well has simple souvenirs for the family. Unfortunately, we were only able to get a ticket for the 2 hour ride - out and back- rather than the one with a full stop to explore. Next time we go, we will definitely take the tickets with a stop so we can explore the small town at the end of the track.

Unbelievable!!!! We made first class reservations in April. I called because we are in Tampa and awaiting Milton. With the uncertainty, I wanted to check on cancellation policy! I found our confirmation email . I called today and they did a call back. Unfortunately I did not hear the phone call! We paid for first class tickets in APRIL! The message is the have no first class tickets!!!!! Seriously????? Mis Understanding .... Reservation still good

Yelp
A group of friends and I recently rode one the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and we had a great time! We rode along the Toccoa River, saw the beautiful homes along the river and even spotted one of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's homes. The train guide/narrator was very nice, friendly and told some funny jokes. There's a cafe onboard selling various snacks drinks (beer, wine, water, soda, etc.). The train stops at Copper Basin where McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee meet... two cities, one place. Overall, a great experience. Since there's no assigned seating, I would recommend arriving early to save seats so you and your group can sit together.

Yelp
What a fun and unique experience! Although it was a very hot day and our tickets were for 2pm (peak of the afternoon), it was still a very enjoyable ride on the bike rails along the very old and historic Blue Ridge scenic railway. There are some nice shaded areas along the way! We had four of us together, so we were able to be seated all together on the bike rails (however, they do say on the website that it's not guaranteed to be able to be seated together). It's important to arrive about 45 min ahead of your ticket time so that you arrive early enough to sign the waivers and hear the detailed instructions for maneuvering/handling the bike rails. Close-toed shoes are also required. The instructors were AMAZING, and for every ride you will have two instructors along with the whole group - one located in the front and one in the very back for safety reasons. They also shared a ton of history and cool facts along the way on our way back and I truly had no idea how old those railways truly are. It's about a 2 hour ride total and I think close to 10 miles long (round trip), but it went by a lot faster than expected! You can pedal the entire way, but they are also motor operated with a breaking system which was extremely helpful. They also include adjustable seat belts for optimal safety. You can bring along a small purse/fanny pack which fits nicely in the storage compartments behind the seats, as well as some water bottles which were needed. They were also kind enough to provide a cooler with ice cold waters which were offered during the stop before they turned all of the bike rails around (which was a really cool process to witness and learn about). It was a beautiful adventure throughout Blue Ridge, and I throughly enjoyed every minute of it! I would love to do it again in the Fall to admire the gorgeous fall foliage along the way.

Yelp
2024 - Yelp 100 Challenge - #19 May 2024 This Railway starts at the depot in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia and journeys along the Toccoa River. This train provides four coach types. 1. Open Air - with large open windows and long bench style seating. 2. Handicap/ Accessible Coach - open air with both stairs and lift access. 3. Close Coach- Air conditioning with seats two padded seats facing each other. 4. Premier Car - Age 18+, air conditioning, complimentary group photo, unlimited no-alcoholic drinks, reclining seats, and catered snacks. My husband and I booked the closed coach with padded seating and air conditioning because of our kiddo, and it was much needed in the Georgia heat. I had family members all throughout the train, so I was able to visit all except the premier car. There is a snack car which is nice to be in when the train is moving that serves drinks for purchase, popcorn, candy, nachos, and keep sake items to remember your trip. It was a nice relaxing journey.

Yelp
What a gorgeous different experience for the kids. I can imagine how this is during fall with the changing of the leaves and honestly I've already been looking into booking it during that time to experience it. We rented out the caboose since there was a larger group of us. The caboose was much nicer than I was expecting and included snacks and beverages and comfortable seating along with the cutest tower for the kids to lookout from. My boys all had such a fun time. The ride there and back is 45 minutes with two hour free time in Copperhill TN. To walk around and grab lunch. I really enjoyed this and I feel like for small kids it's enjoyable as well.

Yelp
Nice train ride from Blue Ridge to Copperhill, takes about an hour. A bit pricey though, I feel sorry for large families.

Ryan L.

Yelp
Had to wait almost an hour in the cold to board since that was the only way for our family to have a chance to sit together. The cars were clean and vaguely decorated for the Christmas theme, while the staff were wearing Christmas pajamas. I honestly feel the attendants were told to decorate their cars out of their own pockets and without reimbursement. We then traveled 30 minutes with stunning views that included trailer parks, a golf course tee box, and the side of a few hills. After a brief stop in said hills, we returned to the depot while a staff member read the night before Christmas over the PA. Good effort but the audio was so bad no one else in my party understood what was being said. They did have someone dressed as Santa, but honestly I've seen mall Santa's that were more fitting. I literally think Mrs Clause was this guys mom, and their reindeer was a staff member in pajamas, who then took a nasty fall into a bathroom, but not a single worker made an attempt to make sure she was ok. Definitely not the memories one would expect for a several hundred dollar ride.

Yelp
Fun winter excursion with the family. We try to get a low number cabin as the seats are better, def no open air in December unless bundled up big time. Bathroom Line for girls is extremely long so try to go prior, train does also have a bathroom on train cars. Cabins are pre selected but you don't have assigned seats so board early to get the best seat options and ensure your family sits together. Further back there is a car with food/drink options-bit they aren't great so bring snacks and stuff as needed. Photos offered on the train , and Santa comes through. Overall fun experience.

Yelp
I've never traveled by train so this was a first for me and I really enjoyed it. Lots of history was told during the one hour trip.
google avatar

Yelp
We took the 2 Hour Summer Express Tour. Overall, the experience was mediocre. The good: The train employees were very nice and friendly. The train departed on time. We found the reclining seats in the closed car to be comfortable. The not so good: We almost had to take two separate seats, because the seats are not assigned. The views were not scenic, in my opinion. I expected to see some North Georgia hills, mountains and valleys. I didn't. Because most of the seats are facing two other seats, there no room to stretch out your legs.

Yelp
A family trip on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway in Blue Ridge, Ga. was a lot of fun. Blue Ridge, Ga. is a two hour and twenty seven minutes drive, not including stops. The directions took us on "back roads" with a lot of beautiful scenery. It's suggested that you arrive at least one hour prior to departure. You can board the train fifteen minutes before departure. Our tickets were for the closed coach. The train itself is old and in need of a facelift, the seats and cup holders weren't clean, but we did the one hour holiday ride, so it wasn't too bad. There is a concession car with snacks, drinks and hot chocolate. There are bathrooms on the train, and it is handicap accessible, you will need to let them know in advance if someone in your party will need assistance. While riding we listened to holiday music, had a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus who gave out a Blue Ridge Railway jingle bell and a candy cane to the children. Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch came by for a visit too. On the way back we listened to The Night Before Christmas. My two year old great great nephew loved seeing the grinch more than he did seeing Santa Claus. We had an enjoyable time, the train ride is at least worth doing once, and it's always nice to spend time with family. The 4 stars are for the friendly people that work on the train. Ticket prices ADULTS: 13-65+ $52.99 CHILDREN: 2-12 $40.99, Price plus tax $52.99 + 7%= $56.70 Adults $40.99 + 7%= $43.86 children.

Yelp
My friend had invited me along with her and her daughter to ride the train while we were on a quest for snow in GA. My friends daughter is autistic and sensory sensitive with certain stimulus but she was so excited to ride the train, we thought maybe it would be alright. With ear plugs in and ear phones on the horn still turned out to be too much. While we were trying to remedy the situation in the middle of the sidewalk, we saw some of the attendants for the train. My friend asked if there were any sort of side accommodations that was offered to help. They sprang into action. Immediately offered the closed car that is typically saved for photographers. They even offered to cover the overhead speaker to make it more tolerable if needed. My friend's daughter had an amazing time. The photographer even captured a moment of mom and daughter smiling and looking at the camera at the same time. We know how special these kind of photos are, they come far few in between and you guys got it. We didn't catch the attendants names but thank you so much for giving these two this wonderful memory. Happy holidays!

Yelp
We had a great time! Maryanne was a super host/guide and very friendly! We took the Premier Ride and she was on top of her game! The sandwiches and snacks were delicious and she was always checking to see if we needed anything else to drink. The scenery was beautiful as we were blessed with great weather.

Yelp
This was a fun ride to the state line. There was some nice scenery along the way. Our conductor Tom helped make more enjoyable. I would recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
first time we rode to the destination and the horn was very, and i mean VERY loud. There were furries getting off the train once we were at the destination.
google avatar

Yelp
I thought the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway was tons of fun! I've only ever been on a train as a kid so I was very excited to ride the train in general, and based on some other reviews I read I had very low expectations- but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the train ride, the views, & the 2 hour stop at the GA/TN border. The shops in the layover towns are super cute too. I'd love to go back in the fall and see the beautiful foliage on the ride.
google avatar

Dave Q.

Yelp
Had a great experience on the train today. From our ticket person John, and our car attendant Ken. Everyone was welcoming and professional. Big plus is that they stayed to the schedule. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The Blue Ridge area of the Smokey Mountains is one of the most traveled areas in the East. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway gives you a relaxed way to take in the beautiful scenery. Your day begins at the depot in Blue Ridge, GA. A 1 hour train ride takes you to the twin towns of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee. You have a two hour layover to explore the towns before re-boarding the train for the return trip home. The whole trip is 26 miles and lasts about 4hrs. There are concessions on the train and you have the option of a vintage climate controlled car or an open air car. Trips happen year round but the fall colors tour is really lovely. Take the holiday tour to see the light displays in the two towns and enjoy some Christmas shopping. A really wonderful way to spend a day.
google avatar

Gail O.

Yelp
This was our sister - cousins outing and what an outing it was. First our hostess Denesia was a shear delight, she made the train ride even more fun. The train ride was educational and very relaxing. The moutains and the Toccoa river was breath- taking. This train ride is a must, we were in Georgia and Tenn. at the same time. By all means take the train. Oh yea, we got apples too.
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
I did enjoy the train ride. The employees were amazing...the concession stand on board was amazing. Fun experience riding an old time train....the ONLY reason I gave 4 stars was because the website said the views were great etc etc but there weren't many views other than the Toccoa River. No Mountain views just wooded areas, we did see some deer and pretty cabins. We did he two hour ride.
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
Unfortunately we went on a Monday and no joke or exaggeration over half the town in Copperhill, TN & McCaysville, GA town was closed. It was 12 NOON. We couldn't even fill 2 hours with stuff to do. All the stores sell the same overpriced "schticky" stuff. We went to a sit down Tex-Mex, Habanero. It was super mediocre and warm inside. As far as the train ride itself... It was not that scenic. It was overall boring, and I can't say I can recommend this ride except maybe in the fall. I will also say all the kids on the train looked bored and parents looked tired. The train car we were in was clean with plenty of leg room (it was an indoor car) but heaven forbid you have a family of more than two and show up later, you may not be sitting together. I didn't visit the restrooms. This cost about $200 for my family of four and I can't say I would do it again even if it was free. I only gave a second star because of the nice staff. Maybe I just went on a bad day but. If your town is literally running on this trains tourism, maybe... be open? I cannot say recommend this train ride.
google avatar

Jeff A.

Yelp
This North Georgia gem in Blue Ridge is not to be missed. We took the 4 hour trip which allows for a 2 hour layover to enjoy the destination town that sits on the GA TN border and splits a town in to two actual cities. The train car host provide a lots of information plus a some pretty corny jokes. Jeff, our host in car 2929 was awesome. All in all, a fun day and way to see parts of Fannin County and North Georgia while taking a leisurely train ride.
google avatar

Lita L.

Yelp
I was a little confused about this train's destination of McCaysville, Ga and Copperhill, Tn, but found the town, and actually many stores border/share both cities, like right through the middle! The train ride wasn't as scenic as I would have liked, but enjoyable nonetheless. We sat in an outdoor car, with two rows facing out, and an aisle down the center. There were nice quaint shops and restaurants to visit during our two hour stop after an hour ride from Blue Ridge. There's a Katz Deli, but don't expect a New York hot Pastrami on Rye, because this one is room temp sliced meat at room temp. Good Brewery in town, and a wonderful Chocolate shop in Blue Ridge with delicious truffles at a great price. I bought 16 pieces, which is 8 ounces, for $11, and wish I bought two pounds!
google avatar

Shea Q.

Yelp
We had the best time on the Christmas train ride with our kids! Everyone was friendly, everything ran on time, and the bell was a wonderful touch.

Willie S.

Yelp
The ride was nice, Informational with pleasant people on the train cars giving some additional information that wasn't given by the conductor as well as beautiful scenery. The only thing that could have made it better I would have to say would being able to stay 3 hours rather than the 2 hour stay. This would give more time to see things as well as to eat while there. But all in all it was great.
google avatar

B K.

Yelp
For the price, the experience is a bit lackluster. There isn't much of a "scenic view "- it's a nice experience for one time but we wouldn't return.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
My only downside for this railway is when I hear Blue Ridge, my expectations of the scenery are mountain backdrops, railway trestles, streams, and valleys far as the eye can see. Yet, the journey on Blue Ridge is more of a historical trail through flatlands in between developed private properties. But with an open mind, the scenery wasn't bad. There was a lot of autumn foilage, views from traversing the Toccoa River (which flows South to North to my surprise), and a bridge at the GA/TN line. The car ride up to Blue Ridge is very scenic coming from the south. You'll find plenty of opportunities to take photos. Totally worth it! The train cars are spacious, clean, and comfortable. Typically there is an open air train car and closed cabin train car. The locomotives looked like well-maintained or rebuilt EMD GP9's. Didn't get to speak to the conductor or engineer, but I would've been honored to check out the drivetrain. On the train, concessions we're actually pretty good. Everything from slushies to hot food to popcorn. Way more than I expected. I understand the train is handsomely decorated with lights during the holiday season. But I rather catch the train when the weather is fair so spring and fall are my speed. Overall, Blue Ridge Railway is solid. I'm down to do this again, but I'm a train geek so my opinion is skewed slightly.

Carrie C.

Yelp
We had a really nice time visiting but we did not do the U pick nor see the orchards except from the parking lot. The store is huge and took well over an hour to see it all. Everything looked delicious. We discovered an apple we had never seen before, Loki, and were so glad they had tastings. The wine tastings were very good and the slushes even better. All the employees were very nice. If you're looking for tourist gifts this is the place to go for sure.

Yelp
We went on the Blue Ridge Scenic railway for the Santa train. It was super cute. They had Santa come through and hand out "sleigh bells". No, I don't have kids... but I'm a big kid and I love doing things like that. I enjoyed the scenery and the ride! Blue ridge is such an adorable little town.

Bethanie G.

Yelp
We had a great ride on the train! Our host Tom was funny and informative. We did the 4 hour ride and I recommend this as stopping at the Tennessee / Georgia state line was so much fun! First stop for is was CopperHill Brewery for a much needed and delicious cold beer and good conversation. We went to lunch at Rum Cake Lady and loved our food. Veggie Cuban for me and Midnight sandwich ( a variety of Cuban) some walking around/ shopping then back to CopperHill for another beer and wait for the train. A great trip back ! Try it you willllove it!

Yelp
If you have a little one like me who is in that magical age where engines and trucks and such is the bees knees, then the two hour ride may be the right amount of time for you. We went on a nice Saturday afternoon and my kid was absolutely over the moon with the experience. The staff were wonderful and thoughtful from start to finish. The train was clean and they provide masks ... now, I'm pro-masking but honestly, at this point, I mean, what's the point? the first half doesn't wear them right, and the rest takes them off completely as they end up eating popcorn or other snacks they sell on board - but A+ for the effort though. There were still a good majority that kept them on. Honestly, the whole set up didn't bother me. The indoor/closed train cart was spaced out enough that we were still very comfortable. There are plenty of bathrooms and one in the very end by the concession stand has a diaper changing station should you need it. I'm not sure how the indoor carts are in the summer time, but it was on the warmer side when we were there. So if you're hot natured, there's a cart with ceiling fans (enclosed), then there's a full on outdoor cart (super windy) and then there's one that's partial (with large windows you can open and close). There's also a cart for anyone in wheelchair or scooters. Bringing a stroller was a bit of challenge as you have to carry it up the narrow steps (I mean, it's a train lol). So if you have a double stroller or a larger/heavier one, keep that in mind. If you have to use it, maybe you can ask if you can go through the cart that has mobility access. Concession stand offers warmed up pretzel, fresh popcorn, some chips and candies, bottled soda, hot cocoa, and some simple souvenirs like t shirts and magnets. Adults are around 40-45 bucks and kids 2+ are around 30. Kids 2 and under can sit on the lap and are free. Our ride was for 2 hours and the train left promptly at 3pm. So make sure you either have eaten already and in line by around 230 (that's when boarding starts). You can also bring you own snacks. The view was okay. Only one side has a true view so the conductor will make you switch sides. The first hour goes to Tennessee, stops by that small town at the border for ten minutes (you can't get off), then heads back the same way (and that's when they make you switch). Which we didn't mind. We got to sit on the side with the the view on the way there so my kid was SO excited. On the way back, we got popcorn and that kept him pretty busy since it got pretty boring without views. All in all, it was a good experience since my kid is really into trains right now. Very low frill and a chill couple of hours. If you've got kids that easily bore, I'd say bring the iPads and headphones because I did see a lot of bored kids (even adults). And oh, there's a photographer that'll take pictures. If you're interested in keeping it, it's $20 - they also take both cash and card on the train for both the photos and the concession stand. In conclusion - I say try it once. The 2 hour trip was plenty enough for the "experience", I'd say.

Yelp
This was a great COVID-friendly outing. We sat in an open car with wide windows so there was plenty of airflow. Our car host was named Jeff and he was hilarious! All the workers were very knowledgeable and courteous. They kept us safe and ensured that we learned a lot. My favorite landmark was the Native American Fish trap. There were also immaculate cabins and homes along the way and great views of the Toccoa river. The train cars featured long benches facing the windows and a hallway down the middle. The benches were comfy and we were entertained the entire ride. I would definitely recommend this! Tips: 1. Car 2975 is right behind the concessions cart, has open windows and far enough away from the engines to allow for a peaceful ride. 2. You can bring your own food (except alcohol) but I suggest buying concessions on the train. They're extremely affordable! 3. You might want to bring a light blanket or sweater. The train only goes about 10 mph but I appreciated the blanket during parts of the ride (on a cloudy day). Desired improvements: It would be great if train staff would suggest switching sides during the stop in Copperhill, TN. Also, there was no warning before the concessions cart closed.

Yelp
I would not recommend the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway to anyone with any social consciousness. Offensive statue (a black Sambo) holding a confederate flag placed in a yard, purposely near the track, so everyone on the train would have to be blind not to see it. I'm sure management will say that the offensive statue was on private property and has nothing to do with the railway, but hundreds pass it weekly, and it's not a problem? Once we reached our destination in town, political signs (no matter what your political affiliation and confederate flags), let's say we didn't feel welcomed. I felt as if I was taking a trip through time back to the segregated south. In addition, the premier coach is not worth the extra money for the so-called perks; the standard seating would have sufficed for a slow, uninspired, lackluster trek through the woods. The hostess serving the (substantial snack) a cold hard cinnamon roll and a tiny fruit cup was not friendly, rude, and consistently served the Caucasian riders first and us last. The only positive and exciting aspect of the trip was getting off the train and Burra Burra On the River Restaurant in McCaysville. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

Yelp
We took the four-hour excursion in an enclosed car. The train ride was very soothing. The river-side view was scenic and the mountain-side view was not but they can't really control the scenery. Our car attendant, "Magic Mike" was entertaining and made the trip interesting. The two-hour layover in MacCayesville/Copperhill was sufficient time to do a little shopping and get some lunch. Overall, it was enjoyable and I would recommend it for couples or families.

Yelp
Train ride was very relaxing. Each train has a host that's very knowledgeable and friendly. My car was handicap accessible.

Yelp
I was excited about the Scenic trip. The 4 hours was the only one available. I had in mind a beautiful trip "SCENIC" but it wasn't. 1 hour to comeback to Mccaysville a place where I had been for almost one week. Spend 2 hours in the center of Mccaysville and then anothecome back to Blueridge. That was a waste o time and money. Super boring. The attention was amazing but I never come back again!

Yelp
It was perfect and fun. It is quite sad to see so much construction (really destruction) of the beautiful mountains. Better go now so you can enjoy the beauty that is left.

Yelp
This was a waste of money. No view whatsoever during the train ride. Nothing to marvel at. Once the train arrived we were left with nothing to do in a town that offers absolutely nothing to entertain visitors. A few restaurants with menus that don't attract the appetite. Burgers, pizza, grilled cheese and fried pickles was the most that was offered by these restaurants. A few candle shops and antique stores. But nothing to really shop for. It was boring! Never again. I must say, however, that the train hosts were friendly, funny and accommodating. That was the only nice thing about the trip.

Yelp
Best thing we have done in a while as a family. Totally recommend this, especially if you have children. It was expensive but we really enjoyed the day on the train. Would I do it again - oh yes.

Yelp
Half the people are not wearing masks, including the workers. When I called to make my reservation, they indicated that masks and social distancing was enforced. I would not have booked if I was told masks were optional. If you want to be terrified for 2 hours, go ahead and ride the train. The staff was nice, however, I felt very unsafe. I understand that we have choices, I just wished I was given accurate information. Not worth it.

Yelp
I was on a trip with my Church Grace Baptist Church on Friday, 9/9/2022. I had a wonderful time. It was an awesome experience. Mr. Glenn was so knowledgeable about the tour. He was gracious and kind. He had us laughing and I will pass on this great experience to others and definitely recommend Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Sylvia H

Yelp
Not scenic. The constant chatter of the "guide" was maddening. SOME history would have been great but the majority it was just drivel. We spent $179 for three people and one was a senior discount. i wouldn't go again for free and that's FAR from free. do yourself a favor and just drive around some...

Yelp
This was so much fun. Great views and a nice leisurely ride with some history thrown in. Had time for a great lunch at destination town. We will definitely be back with some family next time.

Yelp
Lovely experience! My toddler enjoyed herself thoroughly. I went with my family of 17 people and we sat in the inside car. I toggled between whether to sit in the inside car or open air car, finally determined that the Best decision for my active toddler was the inside car since We were able to spread out and the aisle had ample room to walk around. I'm glad we walked with some heavy snacks to share - fruit, turkey wraps and chips. You can buy snacks in the train as well. Everyone enjoyed the ride but I think it lacks in actual scenery. Nothing really stands out in terms of scenes... a waterfall or farm might be a sight to see but really just a lake was the highlight and beautiful lakeside homes. Since the scenes are lacking and there is no free food, I think the train ride could be a little cheaper. The ticket pickup was easy and the town is definitely worth another visit.

Yelp
We had such a great time!!! It was easy to purchase tickets. We were given information about some of the best places to eat. We had a handicap person (me) and treated us VIP provided us a special seating area. The concessions were reasonable as well as gift shops too! Sam and Charlie were awesome! Sam has such a sense humor and brought even more to our experience. If you're visiting Atlanta area consider a day in Blue Ridge!
