The Best Coffee Shops in Denver | Eater Denver

"Blessed with courtyard and rooftop seating (as well as satellite locations in LoHi and Cap Hill), this bright yet intimate, certifiably green cafe in RiNo features rotating American and international roasters in the espresso drinks and specialty coffees it lists in script on a large scroll of packing paper hung behind the counter — including Denmark’s La Cabra and South Carolina’s Junto — while sourcing its pastries from nearby Hearth Bakery." - Ruth Tobias

I came to this café in the morning on May 26, 2025. The first barista was very kind and friendly. I ordered a Vanilla Latte and a chocolate croissant. After paying, I asked for a little less ice, and he was completely fine with it, he smiled and was very pleasant. Later, after 5 PM, the café was about to close, and I placed a second order with a different barista. I forgot to mention “less ice” and simply asked him to remove a bit of the ice. He said there would be an extra charge for less ice, and I just replied, “Oh, i don’t know, but never mind then” But he still removed only one piece of ice. Honestly, I was going to remove some of the ice by myself. cause idk it will be extra charge for less ice. The point is I don’t mind if the coffee is a little less in volume when there’s less ice. What bothered me was how unfriendly the second barista was. And to be honest, charging extra for less ice seems really odd. I unfortunately, the last barista I interacted with was very unpleasant, even though I still gave a 20% tip! I’m sorry to say this, but it was a really bad experience. Please teach them to be kind , smile and humble! Thank you.

Google
The best almond croissant I had ever eaten. The ambience is great for a quick cup of coffee or to work while sipping coffee. Wework being just above, this cafe is an added bonus to the members. Latte was good, pretty normal, wish it was more hot. The staff is very helpful & welcoming. I also ended up buying one of their pullovers, very good quality although expensive.

Google
Great place! The lattes are lovely, and the pastries are delicious. This place is great to sit down with a computer Almost every seat in the cafe has electrical outlets, and the seating variety is so vast that it's hard to find a space that doesn't make a good work setup. They have couches, chairs, benches, all types of seating. Free wifi and an open bathroom.

Loved my little matcha latte! Not pictured, the delicious gf lemon Madeleine I also ordered.

Google
Happy to be at Blue Sparrow again! I ordered the Sweet Matcha Latte, and it was phenomenal. I finished it far too quickly and wish I had an unlimited amount. The vibes in the cafe are relaxing and roomy, with space that expands into an adjacent commercial building. The price for the drink was very reasonable compared to the quality. I will definitely be back soon!

Google
Firstly, im obsessed with the ice here. I usually hate ice but I like that it’s big cubes that melt slowly. I was surprised by how good the coffee tasted, I got the Japanese coffee and it wasn’t acidic, had really lovely chocolatey notes. It’s open a little later than most coffee shops in the area and located in the lobby of what appears to be an apartment complex with the elevator/lounge. Service was great. Very clean.

Google
I recently visited Blue Sparrow Coffee and tried both a hot and iced vanilla latte. I always like to judge a place by how well they make the basics, and their vanilla latte was solid—good flavor and well-prepared. The service was efficient and straight to the point. Personally, I prefer a more chatty experience, but if you like quick, no-frills service, it’s a good fit.

My first time at BSC and it was amazing. Great service, atmosphere, and best of all coffee!

Yelp
Matcha was superb! The decor was pleasing! I'm glad I found this place! I'd go back whenever I come back to Denver! I parked on the street and the staff members were nice!

Yelp
I have been to this location 3x now since wonder across the street closed. The coffee is decent I have had both latte and drip. It doesn't taste burnt which I really appreciate! The Matcha was not for me. It didn't have a strong matcha flavor which is what I look for in my matcha. But, if you like the lighter matcha flavor theirs will hit the spot for you. The real reason for the two stars for me is the attitude of the baristas. All three times I have been here it is between the hours of 10 am -12 (noon). It has not been busy and I have not had to wait to have someone take my order. I preface with this because all three times the baristas are incredibly dismissive. Like they are upset to be having to make a coffee or say hello. The first time I thought it was just a fluke, like maybe this guy had a bad day. Second time, I thought maybe I was looking for the bad attitude and I found it. But the third time the two different baristas I interacted with were dismissive. I walked up to the counter and asked how they were and the response was a dead stare and "what do need?" And the barista who handed me my drink I said "thanks so much! Have a great day" and there was no response. If they were busy I wouldn't think twice but there was hardly anyone there. I was searching for a place to go instead of Starbucks but the attitudes make this place not it for me.

Yelp
Walking into this coffee shop is any remote worker's, book lover's, or people watcher's dream. Blue sparrow coffee has a modern and fun atmosphere with light music and plenty of work space. When it comes to coffee, I'm more of a plain Jane, but their ice latte truly gets me out of bed in the morning. If you get there early enough, you'll have your pick of a selection of fresh pastries, starting your day off with a little treat. My favorite part? Bring in your furry friend. They have a selection of dog toys!
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
Such an awesome vibe! It's the perfect place to work or do schoolwork. Lots of seating and charging stations (even on top of the tables!). The coffee is great and they have several options! We went with the chai and the nitro cold brew. They are both super good! They have some milk alternatives as well.

Yelp
Blue Sparrow is one of my favorite coffee shops in Denver! Benign just a few minutes away from my place it's made easy to stop by on a morning walk. There are a few locations, I can only speak for the Platte St. location but the staff are friendly and love the neighborhood coffee vibe. Located in a shared workspace, there are lots of seating options allowing for a fun coffee date or a work space or even space outside to enjoy the sunshine! Love that they support local coffee roasters and local artists featuring sweatshirts, candles, dog toys and even a phenomenally made dress featuring recycled coffee materials from the shop. They do offer different milk options for coffee drinks but to my knowledge, don't have vegan or other dietary restrictive friendly options for the pastries.

Yelp
That's a beautiful and delicious cup of coffee! I'm glad this is so close to downtown for meetings with business colleagues.
google avatar

Yelp
Great coworking ambiance. It was busy at 10am on a Monday. The almond milk flat white was delicious and the perfect temperature. Didn't get to try the food, but they had a small selection of pastries and baked goods.
google avatar

Claire W.

Yelp
Good selection of coffee, drinks, and pastries. I wish there was a way to warm up the pastries though, a cold ham and cheese croissant was a little strange. I absolutely love the space and I would love to come back and potentially work one day. There was booths and tables inside Blue Sparrow and then couches, chairs, and booths with tables to work in the building lobby area outside of the cafe. Such a good vibe. Light music playing. Plus they open super early!
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop! There is both indoor and outdoor seating, great Wi-Fi and it's dog friendly. The baristas are always very nice and accommodating. We have enjoyed the drip coffee, cold brew and matcha lattes. It's a great places to work remotely from, unless you have a meeting because there is usually music playing that can be disruptive.

Yelp
They literally have the best matcha in the Denver metro area (there is another location/place that rivals their matcha but stay tuned for that review). But their matcha is sweet and balanced (you don't have to add any syrups as their blend is perfect as is when blended with milk). Most places in Denver have matcha that literally taste like grass and that's how you know it's low quality. Theirs is so yummy and paired with their almond milk that also taste perfect and not like most almond milks that have fillers/gums but instead just almonds water and maybe sea salt. If you prefer matcha over coffee like me this place is a must try and trust you will be a repeat customer.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe! Stopped by for a quick stop and loved that I did! Aesthetic inside with good music. I brought my laptop to send out some emails and the Wi-Fi was super fast! I ordered an iced matcha - BEST iced matcha I've ever had. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The hubby and I hit up this location of BSC a few different times on our trip to visit our family and friends in CO. We used to visit the Blake St location when we lived there, but the Platte location was close to our rental and provided easier parking. It's a gorgeous shop with good vibes, beautiful colors, textures and tile, delicious pastries and an even better selection of coffees and teas. During our multiple visits, we ordered a double espresso, a cortado with almond milk, an iced vanilla latte with almond milk, a cup of drip coffee and a matcha latte. All the drinks we received were well made and smooth. Thank you for also providing multiple plant based milk options like almond along with oat and soy. The whole movement to oat milk has annoyed me since it's higher in carbs and makes the drinks way too milky tasting for my liking. Keep doing what you're doing BSC.

Yelp
Blue Sparrow Coffee is a great coffee shop to visit on Platte. The interior is beautifully designed and decorated. There is a good selection of coffee and espresso beverages and a small selection of pastries. I recommend the Apple Danish! The team at Blue Sparrow are kind and outgoing. Prices for drip coffee are on the higher side but is commensurate with the quality of the beans they serve. If you're looking for a place to work while drinking your coffee, there are tables and chairs available and the space seldom gets loud. If you prefer being outside, the patio space out front is a good option too.

Yelp
Go for a good coffee to go, but service sucks. Can't even get reasonable eye contact engagement or polite general greeting. She couldn't be bothered for a "non-regular" person. Had to ask for silverware, and it was like I asked for something akin to asking for her 1st born and she just laid them on the counter where she had been pushing coffee cups and food to many unsanitary hands. Why not call out to me so I can retrieve it myself in my hands. Very unpleasant experience and I am not coming back.
google avatar

Kristi J.

Yelp
Their Golden Latte with Oat was excellent! I think it also had black pepper in it (great for activating the curcumin in the turmeric)! I had also asked if there was sweetener in it and the barista noted it had 1 teaspoon of coconut sugar so there is a slightly coconut-y taste that liked.

Yelp
I was in Denver for a day and in morning after seeing a beautiful sunrise I was looking for a place to have quick coffee. I searched near me and decided to have coffee from Blue Sparrow Coffee. This a little coffee shop with a great and knowledgeable staff. The vibe at the place was great and a great place to spend time with your friends. From the menu I ordered the most ordered coffee 16oz Nitro Cold brew which was a good brew coffee and i loved the coffee as well as the place. Amazing place to have coffee.

Yelp
Great place to grab a coffee, pastry, and do some work. Baristas are very kind and there's always the cutest dogs!
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
Very negative experience here on 6/25. My friend and I popped in for some coffee for the first time, and I tripped over the tiny step near the entrance which you can hardly see since the tiles are the same. I asked the barista if that happens a lot and he said yes...sounds like it needs to be marked or fixed to some extent... Next, I'm typically a black coffee drinker, but this morning I wanted some sort of iced coffee drink, so I had some questions about the menu. The barista seemed annoyed with my questions and didn't make any recommendations. I ended up with a regular iced coffee and when I went to put the creamer in, the cap to the creamer opened too wide and it overflowed my cup. The female barista just looked at me like I was an idiot. She didn't offer to bring me a towel to clean up the mess or get me a new drink. I threw my previous cup away because it was so full, and the female barista was mad that I threw it away and basically asked me to try to retrieve it from the garbage!! She finally came over and tried to get it out of the garbage so I reached in to try to get it too since she was so upset about it. I told her that she saw this all happen and she could have easily asked me to bring the cup over and offer me a new iced coffee...it's not that hard. Not sure if it's a Gen Z thing or what, but these two kids working yesterday need to have some training in hospitality and the service industry and get rid of their attitude. I waitressed for nearly 10 YEARS and would never have treated any customer this way. Will not be back.
google avatar

Tasfia A.

Yelp
This looks like a nice and quiet coffeeshop with plenty of tables for you to either hunker down on some work or have a chat with friends. On a cold day, this place came on clutch. I got their hot chai and I am still thinking about it. I loved their take on it in addition to the frosty milk on top. I ordered it with almond milk too and it was wonderful! Parking situation: street. Just walking distance there is a parking lot where the first two hours of parking are free.
google avatar

Joy Q.

Yelp
This place has an open and airy seating area shared with an apartment lobby, so it plays loud music, there are a lot of people reading books or using laptops, so it's not too loud with conversation. Coffees are fairly priced and over all this is a great spot for studying and working.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
One of the cutest coffee shops in Denver. Conveniently located next to a wework co-working space. Love their mushroom tea.
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Came here to study one Saturday. Barista was playing old school Method Man and Biggie Smalls on the aux, so I knew it was legit. Got a strawberry croissant and vanilla latte because I'm more basic than a white girl. Both were BUSSIN' as the Zoomers say. Legit the best coffee and pastry I've had in Denver, which says a lot since I lived in coffee snob land known as Washington for a decade. Great place to people watch as well and if you need to study, the big table has power outlets in the table.

Yelp
If you're looking for a cute, vibrant, cozy coffee shop on platte street, this is the one. My usual problem with a lot of the coffee I try is that it is mostly milk with a little bit of espresso. I get the same thing at every new coffee shop I try, which is an iced latte, so I can judge every place equally. Usually it's SO much milk, it barely is even coffee. But at this place, it was the perfect mix, and it tasted great!! The coffee taste itself is amazing, it's a very balanced taste. The espresso wasn't bitter either which I find a lot with some coffee shops. My mom and sister got chais, and they said they liked theirs a lot. They said it had a very heavy spice factor, which made it a great cozy drink. Overall, my experience was great, the coffee was good, the place is super cute, the barista was nice and great at his job, and they even let dogs in the place! 10/10 would recommend, I'm excited to stop by next time I'm in Denver!
google avatar

Gabriel G.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and atmosphere. Everything good here. It is perfect if you want to bring your laptop or book and stay for long time too
google avatar

William A.

Yelp
It's good coffee in a place with beautiful aesthetics. Didn't try the pastries but they look delightful. Not much more to say!
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
Came here one morning for a whole milk latte, great speedy service and friendly staff. Looks like a very spacious inside and looked clean and comfortable.
google avatar

Leemor Y.

Yelp
Swung by here for a Saturday morning coffee. The vibe inside here is cozy and it's very nicely decorated. Was a bit disappointed they didn't have cappuccinos as I love plenty of milk foam in my coffee but the the flat white was a decent substitute. We also got a savory veggie croissant which also a nice snack.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Solid spot for morning coffee, they've got a nice patio in front that gets some great sunshine in the morning but also sports several parasol's if you want to sit outside but need some shade. I decided to come here because they open at 0630 and sometimes it's hard to find a good spot that's open before 0700 or 0800. The inside is a lot more spacious than I expected and has some cozy looking couches. I usually just get an americano but this was certainly better than most and the accompanying everything croissant (great looking pastries in the case) made for a nice morning. Super friendly people and it sounded like they had Frank Ocean radio on.

Yelp
I love working from Blue Sparrow Coffee! The coffee is really great and you can tell the baristas have a passion for coffee. The baristas are always so friendly and make me feel welcome every time. I wish they had a bigger food menu but the pastries they offer are very delicious! You do have to get there early before they run out. This is a great work-from-home spot if you are by yourself. Most of the tables here are very small which is perfect for one person. They do have some larger tables in the WeWork that is attached. There are also limited plug-ins so make sure your computer is charged before you go! Overall, I wish I could give this place a 4.5/5 as I really love the vibes, the workers, the coffee, and the food!
google avatar

Mary P.

Yelp
Good food. Great coffee and awesome service!! There's a nice extended space to work in also.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Love this place! If you're looking for a delicious, high quality coffee/tea beverage, this is your place. We stopped in here yesterday for a mocha, caramel latte and chai tea. The chai has a nice spice to it, with a ginger flavor to it. The caramel latte was also delicious - and not too sweet. While we didn't pick up croissants this time, would also recommend those - they are buttery delicious goodness! Both the people behind the counter were friendly and kind.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Very good coffee and drinks come out fast. I ordered a mocha & a kouighn aman (no idea how to spell it). But it was my first time eating that kind of pastry and it was amazing. There was only one left when I came in at like 9, so if you want one, you have to come early apparently

Customer Review A.

Yelp
Hidden gem. Fresh bean. Skilled barista. Nice coffee shop setting and would make good breaks away from office.
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, but it didn't quite live up to the hype that I heard about. I loved the spaciousness of the place, the modern decor was nice, the barista was pleasant, but I just couldn't love the coffee shop unfortunately. I had the iced matcha latte and it was good, but I just wasn't blown away by anything. Overall, I'd go back if someone suggested it, but I wouldn't be the first to.
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
Great location ; lots of work from home people so seating is tough. We snagged seats at the window bar seats. Drinks were great ; pastries were not warmed up which would have been a nicer complement to the morning coffee.
google avatar

Courtney P.

Yelp
Grabbing a quick cup of coffee with an old friend while visiting Denver, we decided to meet a Blue Sparrow. It was a nice day so we sat out on the patio and soaked in the sun while we sipped on our coffees. I just got a classic iced coffee with a little bit of vanilla and some oat milk. The coffee was tasty and refreshing. Definitely a nice spot to sit and catch up with friends or possibly bring your laptop and do some work.
google avatar

Stefanie C.

Yelp
Glad to finally try the Blue Sparrow location on Platte Street. I'm somewhat of a regular at the RiNo one, with my order of vanilla latte. This one has a bigger indoor area but not as much of an outdoor patio. Similar offerings in terms of beverages, pastries, aesthetic, and service. Stopped by for a post-lunch caffeine hit. Would come back again whenever I'm in the area. It'll probably be my go-to coffee place in this neighborhood!
google avatar

Carissa C.

Yelp
Cozy spot! My friend and I wanted to try this place out, so we walked here on a frigid afternoon. I tried an almond milk latte and he got a golden milk latte, and both were so comforting and delicious. At this time indoor dining is allowed, and I appreciate how spaced out the tables were. The interior is pretty large! Would return.
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
Large spacious cafe with free WiFi. It has the feel of a hotel lobby, but with a variety of seating options (two tops, long couch, long communal tables, round table with low chairs, outdoor seating). Music is turned fairly low, foot traffic is consistent but not too busy. There's a wework space above. Parking outside is metered street parking. There seems to be underground paid garage parking available as well.
google avatar

Sohrab S.

Yelp
I've been here on three visits. Two out of the three, the baristas weren't wearing their masks (during a city-wide mask mandate). It puts me in a predicament because I want to continue supporting the small businesses around me but I don't feel comfortable having some chick's cootie breath in my drink. That and I feel like, despite looking like a world-class shop, they do questionable things like sit on the counter (where the HANDWASHING SINK is) with their boots in close proximity to the espresso machine... Just disgusting. Typing about it further is making me gag. I don't feel comfortable patronizing this shop anymore. Edit: it appears that the photo of the barista sitting on the counter was mysteriously removed (even though I blocked their face, which doesn't go against yelp's guidelines) so I have uploaded it again, this time with their head completely blocked.
google avatar

Hailee C.

Yelp
It was fine. I liked the blue decor and ambiance. I think I liked the pastries. It's been a while so I've really forgotten but I would be down to give it another shot. I don't think this place was bad at all, just not something I'd go out of my way for.

Hannah P.

Yelp
Food and vibe was great. Employee named Daniel was very rude to adults and kids alike. If you're looking for a place for your kids, don't bring them - he was super rude to my friend, who came to visit from out of town, and her kids. No empathy. Unkind. My friend left in tears. Will not return if Daniel is working.
google avatar

Anil P.

Yelp
Best part of 3rd wave coffee place is, get to talk to fun people. Interesting pastries. Super good coffee. Mocha is good. Better than most other places.
google avatar

Adriana S.

Yelp
Delightful coffee experience within an extremely cute environment -- what more could you want? I popped in for a vanilla latte and was excited to receive a perfectly frothed/not overly sweet cup of coffee. The interior is expertly curated and super Instagrammable. Seating is comfortable, excellently spaced and a visual treat overall. Can't wait to be back to visit again soon.

Yelp
Super friendly barista-- highly recommend this nice cute little place hidden in the Highland. Highly recommended and would definitely revisit again
google avatar

Jess C.

Yelp
Not a tons of option but good coffee/espresso. Very friendly barista. Also has nice area to hangout.

Holly S.

Yelp
It's a cool place and the golden latte I got was pretty good, but the two people working were not friendly or engaged at all. They seemed annoyed to be there.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Such a great addition to Platte Street! First thing I noticed when I walked in the door is "wow these are some friendly baristas!" -- I was immediately welcomed with an impressive amount of enthusiasm for 6:30 in the morning. Blue Sparrow has a pretty extensive menu and I especially liked that the majority of their beverages can be made with decaf espresso. I went with a decaf flat white and it was so beautiful I didn't want to drink it....but then once I started, I couldn't stop because it was so tasty! My one qualm with Blue Sparrow is that the music became incredibly loud at times, and often had expletives. While I usually wouldn't mind this, I really like to go to coffee shops to work remotely, and it was difficult to make any phone calls due to the volume, and the constant fear that some inappropriate language would drop as soon as I took myself off of mute. I will be back to Blue Sparrow for sure, but just not when I anticipate having work calls to make. Cute shop, awesome location, tasty coffee!

Anonymous P.

Yelp
I have a dairy allergy and ordered an oat milk latte. I watched the barista use cows milk so I asked them to please remake my order and they refused! Horrible experience and wouldn't recommend trusting them again.

Paige R.

Yelp
Had high expectations for this place & sadly it wasn't for me. Ambiance was ok...kind of weird since half of the coffee shop opens up into a weird lobby type seating area. I paid $6 for an iced chai that was served in a tiny plastic cup. One of the worst chais I've had. Biggest problem was the staff. Both baristas were so rude, unhelpful and acted bothered that I wanted to order a coffee. The rude staff was enough for me to not return or ever recommend this place.
