"Beer and Bikes Two of my favorite things are beer and bikes, so it was no surprise that I fell in love with the Blue Star Brewing Company in San Antonio. The beer is top-notch and all organic. It also has a stellar food menu and offers great ambiance, both inside and out on the expansive patio. I love the layout of the brew pub, which also includes a bakery and a butcher block. The cool bikes on display are a bonus. My favorite beer on tap is the Pale Ale, but there are many options to please any beer aficionado."

Wow, the apple aqua fresco will light up your world at Blue Star Brewing. If you're in San Antonio and looking for a place that combines amazing beer with nachos that will make you question every other nacho you've ever eaten, look no further than Blue Star Brewing. Not only is their beer on point (I’m talking crisp, smooth, and perfect for day-drinking), but the baked nachos here are nothing short of a religious experience. These aren’t your average soggy, cheese-laden disaster nachos – we’re talking perfectly crispy chips, a perfect amount of gooey cheese, and just the right amount of toppings. If nachos had a Michelin star, these would definitely have it. Now, let's talk about the staff. The service at Blue Star is so friendly, it feels like you're hanging out with old friends. For our visit Kayla made the evening with her up beat personality and quick service. The whole place is welcoming, and have that laid-back vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. So, grab your crew, your appetite, and your love for craft beer – Blue Star Brewing is waiting to impress you. And don’t forget to leave room for nachos. Trust me, you'll need it.

This our 2nd time here. Always a good spot to grab something to eat. Beer is always good. This time around we brought our son. They have a good variety of kids options. He got the bean and cheese with fries. I got the fish and chips. Take a look at the serving sizes. lol they are huge. The fish and chips were really good! Fries are hand cut. My wife got the loaded fries. Another good plate. She added some buffalo sauce but it was really good plate. Staff was very friendly and restaurant was very clean. Food was priced well nothing crazy expensive.

Google
Blue Star Brewing is a great spot just a bit outside the downtown core, right along the River Walk. The location is perfect for a more relaxed vibe, and the outdoor patio area is spacious and dog-friendly—huge bonus! The beers were solid, with a couple of unique and interesting ones that stood out. Not all of them were winners, but the majority of beers were really good! The food was tasty and really hit the spot. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for good brews, good bites, and a chill atmosphere.

Google
Ambiance: Local brewery with a patio and indoor dining options. Dog friendly and a great spot for large groups or hanging out on a weekend. The chicken fried chicken was okay - not the best but decent! Their beers were okay as well. They didn't have the biggest selection/options IMO but the service was decent and we had a nice time. Parking onsite - does get crowded!

Google
What did the nachos for $12 you think that you could get enough pico de gallo and jalapeño despite me asking for jalapeño didn’t get it it taste and looks like something my son made when he was 12 so I’m not sure why they call it a kitchen. Martin don’t seem to care much whether you were there or not. It’s not a typical bar where you can have a conversation with the bartender don’t look for that unless maybe you are a regular. You will be ignored. Might as well stay home for the food, but the beer seems to be OK

Stopped by to try this place out around 4pm on a Thursday and it did not disapoint! Our kids were with us and they enjoyed the burgers and chicken tenders. Me and the hubby shared a flight and enjoyed all four beers! Fish and Chips were on point and their fries are very, very good! Warning: the garlic fries have 3 tablespoons of minced garlic on them!

Google
The brisket was diabolical. Raw in some parts yet overcooked impossible to chew flavorless and chewy in a bad way. The bread tasted stale. The fruit tasted like it was cut with a knife that was used to cut meat and onions. It was so nasty. I genuinely want a refund. The waitress was nice.

Google
They served this as a “chicken taco” for our daughter and refused to take it off the bill over $6. The waitress was great but manager definitely spoiled the experience.

Yelp
This is a return visit to Blue Star Brewing. We were in the mood for Craft Beer along with Fish & Chip. This place hit the mark. Our server Eleanore is very sweet and energetic. She made our visit very nice. The atmosphere is casual with a rustic / artistic vibe. There is seating both inside and out but in this heat, inside is great. Fun Fact: if you like the brew you had with lunch you can purchase a Growler and have it filled to go. As Always - Eat In Good Health.

Yelp
Parking is a tad chaotic, but service once you get seated is amazing. Our food was fresh and hot, definitely recommend the brisket fries!! So so so good!! Big portions,

Yelp
Was excited to try food and beer at this brewery in Southtown. It's a great location! So that's what it's got going for it. Service was not good either. Our server took a while to take our order and we had to wait awhile, and then after we got our order, our server didn't really come by to check up on us. We had to wait and wave them down to get a water refill, I wouldn't recommend the food. Fries were not crispy and super bland. The sandwich was mediocre. Wished there was more pastrami. There was only a layer or two of meat but usually places stack it. The German plate was pretty sad. The beers we got were mostly sours. If I am in the area, I'd come back to try more beers but I probably won't get food next time. If you're in the area and wanting a drink, I recommend it. But if you're wanting food, I would recommend going elsewhere

Yelp
Come for the brews stay for the food. Went in a relatively quiet night. IPA's are always great and so are the nachos. Today we had dinner as well. Service was great, parking is a challenge.

Yelp
It was a gorgeous day so we sat in the patio which gives you a view of the riverwalk. It wasn't busy for a Saturday, got a table quick. Our server was great. The nachos were ok, they had beer cheese which mixed with the brisket wasn't my favorite. The beers were fine. Nothing stands out. Nice place to check out before you head over to the shops.

Yelp
Nestled along the river walk, this establishment boasts breathtaking outdoor scenery, perfect for al fresco dining enthusiasts. While the interior exudes a quaint, vintage charm, it may not quite qualify as modern, yet it still maintains its own unique appeal. Impeccably clean and staffed by friendly individuals, the ambiance is welcoming and inviting. Although our waiter ensured our needs were met upon inquiry, they didn't actively check in beyond that. Despite the bustling crowd, the service remained efficient. The menu features a selection of classic bar fare, including burgers, chicken wings, tacos, along with a few sandwiches and salads. While the offerings weren't groundbreaking, they were satisfying nonetheless. With a full bar at your disposal, the menu pairs seamlessly with an array of libations. Imagine basking in the serene riverside atmosphere, indulging in delectable food and refreshing drinks--a recipe for a blissful day out. While the restaurant may not be extraordinary, it fulfills its purpose admirably, providing a relaxing haven for locals and visitors alike.

Yelp
Blue Star won't be a first choice for beer or food unless you're in the area. That doesn't make this brewery a bad option, it's just a perfect okay one. The beers are all pretty standard and inoffensive. They're great if you're with your dad or just need a drink after a run. Get a flight and you'll see what I mean. The food is your typical bar food - lots if fried things and many shades of beige. The best thing about Blue Star Brewing is the service. The waitress I had was one of the best ever and made sure I was taken care of and thought of. The bartender was also almost at that level. They deserve all the praise. Be sure to check out events here as they do lots of fun outreach programs and they even host astronomy nights! Parking will be a pain. If you don't parking in the Blue Star parking lot, drive half a block east and you'll find free street parking.

Yelp
Service was good and our food didn't disappoint. I took away a star bc the patio can use some serious attention. Given that this place has a big outdoor audience since it's right at the river and bike trail, it would benefit them to clean up, fix up the patio. I also don't like they add a GB tax and a fee for using a Credit card to pay. The established is big enough to eat the credit card fee for customers.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Our order was taken promptly but unfortunately 30 minutes later we did not even have our drink orders water, absolutely nothing. We asked for status and were told "I am not your waitress ". When our waitress showed up and I asked about our order and she said the food was coming. I asked what about the beer we ordered, the response was "I am not the bartender". At this point we left. We will never go back.

Yelp
We came here on a Monday so it was really chill. Our server was really attentive. We got poppers (pretty good) and a couple of IPAs (just okay).

Yelp
4/7/23 came for first Friday at BlueStar. I would not recommend their food. Their beer was mediocre Service was okay Ambiance was good, except we were sitting right under the bug zapper
google avatar

Yelp
Try them all and find what you like! I really liked the sours! Sit at the bar for excellent service.

Yelp
I grabbed a beer here with a friend and our dogs one afternoon. The weather was great and it was a lil busy inside. I was told to be seated and someone will be out shortly to take my order. I wanted to try some local San Antonio beer and I wasn't disappointed. The Spire stout was an oatmeal stout, standard in taste and mouthfeel, it was on nitro so it was especially smooth. The staff were friendly, the restrooms inside were decent and clean. It's a cool place to visit and the patio is very dog friendly.

Rene L. G.

Yelp
Just got up and left this establishment after waiting for over ten minutes without service. Despite it being dead and despite being sat first , two other tables of non-Hispanic customers, who came after us. got their orders taken first and were served their drinks before any of the three servers came to check on us. Won't be back.

Yelp
From the moment I stepped into Blue Star Brewing I felt right at home. The perfect mixture of ambiance, outstanding service, great food (Caesar salad with grilled salmon was exquisite *chef's kiss) and not to forget the best sweet tea I've had so far. The beer is on another level. Looking forward for another beer at this fine establishment.

Yelp
Beers are really good and the ambience is nice. Wasn't a fan of the food the first time but I'm going to try again soon. Nice location and parking is a plus.

Yelp
Love it here. Always a vibe & a great time. They host the coolest markets and have some fun events here

Yelp
This place could be so much better and it's really down to some things that they could totally control. Their beers are actually not that bad. I tried both of their sours and they were some of the better sours I've had in Texas so far. Unfortunately, when I asked for a taster it was brought out to me in those little paper cups that you put ketchups in at McDonald's. What kind of brewery gives out tasters like that? I would hope that there would be a little more pride in their product than to present it like pills at a nursing home. Similarly, service was...questionable. Our server didn't just seem new but discombobulated. He couldn't answer questions about their beers but I had to point out what I was talking about on the menu. Their beers are good, they are but it doesn't reflect it in so many ways.

Yelp
Nice local brew house with craft beers and nice space to relax or meet up with some friends. Nice outdoor patio and chill environment. Try it.

Yelp
First and last time ever going here. We had an extremely disappointing experience. My group and I waited over 3 hours due to the incredibly slow service from Geena. We saw her only 4 times throughout our entire visit. She promised to bring silverware but never did, so we had to get it ourselves. She also failed to check on us after our food was served. When we finally requested our checks, it took 37 minutes to receive them, and to our surprise, a 25% gratuity was automatically included. Never have I encountered such a high mandatory tip before. It felt like Geena didn't make an effort to provide good service because she knew she would get paid regardless. This was a terrible experience overall.
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
Reasonably good food with excellent service. Standard pub food. Bulverde Pilsner was a highlight because it was soft and almost creamy. Texican beer was mid.
google avatar

Kay N.

Yelp
Beer was great. Service was blander than vanilla ice cream. Read that however you want.

Megan W.

Yelp
This place is nice. We checked it out during one of the first Fridays. I think we were in the section of a new server. Totally fine, everyone has to start somewhere. We were in the upstairs section and it was HOT. Would not recommend it during the summer. Beer selection was good, but they were out of one or two that we wanted to try. I think I would go back on a not so busy time and try to get a place in the main eating area for the best ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
We celebrated happy hour here on a Tuesday. Beer was delicious and food decent. They had live music in the back room - I believe it was a jazz band playing. The back room was packed! really cool area to explore.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful experience! Loaded nachos with brisket hit the spot! Fresh delicious beer flight ... we chose the Green Tractor IPA and the Texican!! Melanie behind the bar was a delight! Excellent recommendations and service with a smile!

Yelp
Came here at the last minute to get a quick bite to eat with my daughter. The food was really really good. It wasn't very busy for a Monday night. Waitress was amazing. I read some of the reviews when we arrived and was a little scared. Our food was delicious and the temperature of our food was hot, fresh and very flavorful. We had the loaded nachos as an appetizer, nacho burger and the spicy pasta. Everything was fantastic and large portions. Great job to the cooks! Well worth it.
google avatar

Valerie R.

Yelp
My hubby and I only had a limited time to enjoy a quick bite to eat without the kids so I didn't have a chance to look up reviews before picking a place. If I had seen the reviews, I definitely would have chosen a different place! My hubby wanted to enjoy some cold beer on tap with our meal so we decided to check this place out since we were nearby. We dined outside since it was such a beautiful day. There were no actual menus so we had to scan the QR code to check out the menu on our phones. We were greeted in a timely manner, the waitress was very pleasant. My hubby ordered a beer and I ordered a Southtown Mule to start off with and for our meals we went with a salad with chicken tenders and a turkey melt. I was surprised that the beer selection wasn't better with it being a brewery and all. As far as the cocktails, all are made with beer since this establishment only has a beer and wine license so keep that in mind if you prefer cocktails with liquor. My Southtown Mule was just okay. It was a bit too sour for me and reminded me of a cheap sport's bar drink. The turkey melt was a bit disappointing to put it nicely. The turkey was dry and they forgot the tomatoes. At least the bread was perfectly toasted and the fries were homemade and were actually good. I was STARVING so I didn't feel like waiting for the order to be corrected. I asked the waitress for ranch Dressing which definitely saved the sandwich and made it somewhat enjoyable. The salad had 2 super large core/butt end chunks in it. I don't know about you but I don't really enjoy having that in my salad. It just shows pure laziness, that says a lot about the care that they put into their food. The chicken tenders were average, not bad but not exactly good. Again, ranch Dressing saved yet another food item. The only reason that I'm being generous with the three stars is because the homemade fries were good and so was the ranch Dressing. The ranch definitely salvaged our meals! We left feeling disappointed. When you have kids and you FINALLY get some adult time for a quick date, it's extremely frustrating when everything is sub par. Sadly, we won't be returning.

Yelp
Blue Star has a solid vibe, and great location...but the beers are a little below standard and the food never quite seems fresh or house-made. Nothing is terrible, but with the location and space they could do a little more. Good staff and service though, and it is local.....so drink local!

David A.

Yelp
Blue stars always been a favorite spot of mine and I'm finally leaving a review, from their First Friday live music events, their fish tacos, their delicious nitro stout, ambiance, and rustic architecture, I've always enjoyed some good times here. If you're a local, stop wondering if it's worth a try, because it is! And if you're just passing through looking for a solid lunch and beer make this a pit stop while exploring Downtown San Antonio in the King William's District.
google avatar

Vanessa C.

Yelp
Great service and great food! The beer selection is good and the Michelada was delicious!

Yelp
Good Mac and cheese app . Bad service . Cool ambiance . Would have stayed longer if the service was better .

Yelp
Been here a couple of times after my evening walk on the Riverwalk. Service is okay, friendly but not great on refills or watching their table. I ordered the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque last night. I asked for croutons for the Bisque, waitress didn't even think they had croutons (in did they did, it came with our side salad) and the Grilled Cheese, was horrible. Cold. Over burnt and they ran out of sour dough and had to use rye, not very good. Great place to hang out - We sat outside, and then the wind/rain/hail/storm came so everyone on the patio ran inside, which was fun but not part of the restaurant, glad they had plenty of seating available inside for all of us.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
To keep things short and simple - the location is great! This area is amazing and always lively. Perfect for any occasion in my opinion. Now back to Blue Star Brewing. The food was mediocre. I wasn't quite happy about our entrées, but the staff and our server were super friendly and attentive which was great. I have not yet to indulge in their brew, but from many I've been told their brew is the reason of service and dining in.
google avatar

Marjorie M.

Yelp
New menu but still a great selection. Very busy area but found accessible parking very quickly. Staff was friendly as usual. No comment on the beer since I don't drink. I had the fisherman's combo. Very tasty. Fish fried to perfection. Shrimp were huge. Grandson, my Babylove loved the brisket poppers. They were overflowing with brisket and spices. Granddaughter #1, my BabyDiva had the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The smaller portion was very large and she enjoyed it. BabyCakes, Granddaughter #2 had the bacon cheeseburger and she loved it. Burger cooked just right. Portions were huge. Everyone had enough leftovers for a snack this evening. Used to eat here a lot when I worked downtown. Worth the trip. Oh and BabyLove loved the Ginger Beer.
google avatar

Nicolas M.

Yelp
Walked in at 240pm only 1 other party inside and was not helped or even looked at by a waiter for 25 minutes! Very unprofessional, we just got up and left. I will not be back and will definitely be sharing my experience with others.
google avatar

Laura F.

Yelp
There is a wide selection of beer but I felt their food was not on par with their price point. The brisket taco my friend ordered was just some meat in a tortilla and not much else. My Blue Star nachos were also not anything worth the $14 price point. The service was great, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly but I probably wouldn't go back there for food.

Yelp
Beer: Blue Star Brewing has some delicious beer, let's get that right. They are always coming up with new creations and all of them are fantastic. If you'd like to take some of their beer home, you can do so by purchasing one of their growlers. Their growlers are pretty affordable and definitely worth it. Food: This is where things get a little 3-star ish for me. I've been coming here multiple times, and their food is never consistent. Sometimes it can be excellent and other times way below average. I also think their food prices can be a bit overpriced to what they are actually serving. Service: If you sit in the bar, you'll definitely get a 5-star service, but outside of the bar gets a little flaky. I've had some pretty horrible service at Blue Star, but it seems that they staff is always changing and every time I come back I see someone new.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
Have you ever just wanted a change in where you eat out? Try something new? I did and spearheaded a trip to Southtown! We walked in, received a hello and water immediately! Great start! We then sat for OVER a half an hour before ANYONE acknowledged us again and that was after we went to the bar and inquired if we could order any time soon. So... 45 minutes in we were asked what we would like to order... two burgers, fries, one with garlic fries, prickly pear margarita and ice for our water. 15 minutes later we got the margarita and we again asked for ice. 15 minutes later we got our burgers. His burger was great! The bacon was crispy and thick and the burger was tasty. I know because I took a bite (or 2!!) My burger not only had a rancid smell it tasted bad. I could not eat it. They took off the price of the burger, however, said it was fresh today. I was trained in quality control for the HEB meat plant years ago. I know this meat was not good. I don't know why- it just wasn't. Garlic fries meant two tablespoons of minced garlic dumped on top of fries. I think my breath still stinks a day later even though I tried to scrape it off. The margaritas were okay. No alcohol because nothing registered!! Food was served by the same people who cleared the tables. It was just all around a crummy experience. What I do know is restaurants are now all under staffed and going out to eat is a gamble at best. I would not say not to go to Blue Star, maybe we were there on a super bad day, bad moment in time for them. We won't go back, but if you're into beer and enjoy their atmosphere... enjoy!

Lauren M.

Yelp
Poor service, cold food, warm beer, pretentious staff. Happened to visit when it wasn't busy so I'm not sure why the staff was overwhelmed.
google avatar

Pookie A.

Yelp
I lived at Blue Star twenty years ago, so I ate at this place often. At that time, there was little else available in the area. It was considered a nice place, and was popular. Recently, I went there for the first time in about 18 years. I don't think they've done one single thing to maintain the space since then. It looks dirty and run down. Just grungy. The place was empty that afternoon (weekday). The food was OK, but overpriced. I won't be going back. There are too many other choices - maybe not as affordable in South Town, although there ARE similar options. On another note: Why can't restaurants like Beto's, EZ's, etc. just maintain the dining rooms? If I'm going to spend $60 for two people, I don't expect it in a place that makes Whataburger look spotless.
google avatar

Yelp
Hubby had the wings. Ordered lemon pepper but got the Thai chili. 8 small wings for 15 bucks. Nope. Not worth it. I had the loaded nachos with brisket. Stale chips. Congealed cheese spread. Brisket is dry but tasted. Nope. Not worth it. On a brighter note the IPA and sour were very good. Come for the beers but seriously skip the food. Nope. Not worth it! We have had such better food at other breweries. I'm so disappointed. If I were giving stars foe the food they would barely get a 1. The beer would get a 4. I'm being generous with a 3 for both the stuff they call food and the beer together.
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
We stop in whenever we visit the area, which is every couple of years. I originally loved them because they had some amazing sour beers. The sours have disappeared over the years and have gotten less sour. I still go back because I have good memories, but I'm not as impressed as I once was. The food is a little on the expensive side, and they don't have great vegetarian offerings. We skipped eating there on this trip because of that. This time they only had two sours on the menu. One was a raspberry, which I didn't even try. I'm not a fan of sweet and fruity beer, I want a strong sour. I got the Southtown sour. It was OK. It was a little weak on the sour. My kids were with me and they got sodas. One of them had the root beer and he loved it. The other one got the ginger ale. It was so strong on the ginger that it was undrinkable. I tried it, it was awful. This was my fourth or fifth visit to Blue Star over the past five years. After this experience, I think I'll probably skip going there on my next trip.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite. Such a nice area over there. You really don't feel like your in SA. My hubby had a quinoa salad with chicken and a beer. The flavor was really good. He had a huge plate. I ordered the special which was pork tacos with a wheat head mojito. I really enjoyed the mojito. It was different but, good. The taco plate, we enjoyed. We'll have to go back again for lunch.

John S.

Yelp
Tonight I enjoyed my Turkey avocado BLT. Particularly good was the turkey. Wish I knew where I could get some of that for the house! The bread was also notably good. The whole thing was just really good. Two thumbs up. And the wait staff were super nice. Will be back.

Any ..

Yelp
Green Tractor IPA AMAZE-BALLS!!! My hub loved the Hils Pils; the home-smoked brisket will knock your socks off..,brisket nachos so damn great! Service was on point, you will not be disappointed PS-Homemade desserts to die for; doesn't hurt that you can leave w/ a growler of your fav brew.

Yelp
Hip Hip Hooray! The ORIGINAL King William is baaaaackkk!!! Love this beer. Looks like they have expanded their beer list and have a few Belgians on tap. Looking forward to going back and trying them. Thank you for bringing back the true KING of beers. Go now, before they run out!

Yelp
Food was very bad , the fish tasted very old , nothing was fresh and beer was very mid . Service was very slow. I always finish my food but this time I did not

Yelp
Plenty of food choices but I didn't try any this time (see my previous review for the apps that I tried in the past). They're located right on the riverwalk in South Town at the Blue Star arts complex - outside seating and inside seating. Friendly staff. Pints are $6 and I was told growler refills were $8 - not sure if that's accurate or not - seems kind of cheap. They will refill growlers from other places. You can walk along the riverwalk to get there. Just keep your eyes out for the Blue Star signs and then climb on up to street level. They have a decent sized parking lot too. I recommend the Texican Lager and the Apache Lager - but remember, I'm not a very adventurous beer dude. I find something I like and I tend to stick with it...
