Where to Find the Best Bloody Marys in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Wallingford’s Blue Star lets customers pick and choose from a variety of garnishes, including olives, peppers, and pickled cauliflower — and, occasionally, even corndogs. The base concoction is strong enough on its own (and purists may scoff at any more than a celery stick or two), but there’s no harm in customization." - Gabe Guarente

I only know my servers name, Arianna from the receipt she didn’t introduce herself. Neither did any of the staff. Wouldn’t be the biggest deal of the food was delicious. It felt like they melted the smallest slice of cheese on top. Worse I felt disgusting after eating it. Maybe it’s new mgmt but won’t be returning

This establishment is a good place for neighborhood food and drinks. Located in Wallingford this eatery offers pub and American casual fare. The decor is “Seattle Eclectic” -think old wood, tiles and vintage photos on the wall. Although I didn’t have a cocktail I did notice the large selection of liquors and beer on tap. My meal was the cheeseburger with bacon and it was delicious. A large beef patty cooked to order with lettuce, pickles and tomatoes on the side all served on a delicious brioche bun. Rounded off with some really tasty French fries and I was very content.

Google
Tomato soup wasn’t good, and the grilled cheese didn’t taste grilled. Table was sticky and wobbling. I tried to get multiple waitstaff’s attention as they were walking by and it’s like they were trying to not make eye contact. The water glasses are 4 inches tall. I would say that would be a burden on the waitstaff because of the amount of times you would require a refill, but they don’t make eye contact with you so refills are no problem for them.

We enjoyed a great breakfast here. We got here around 9:45 on a Saturday right before the rush. Service was great, kept our coffee full and got our food out quickly. We started with the big cinnamon roll quick pretty good. The picture doesn't show it, but there was lots of icing. Huge for two people so we took the rest home for dinner. I had a delicious scramble with goat cheese and smoked salmon. Delicious. My husband has the breakfast burrito which was also good and huge. Definitely a big portion of potatoes. I also got a biscuit which was so good. We took a lot of leftovers for sure, so order wisely as they don't skimp on portions. They looked to have options for gluten free bread. All in all great breakfast and we'd definitely come back. Plenty of street parking around.

Not a good idea for vegans/vegetarians. We are vegetarian and while my partner eats eggs I cannot. I was excited to try the tofu scramble. I opted for the biscuit, and asked them to add spinach to my scramble. The plate arrived w a big chunk of ham mixed into the potatoes. Same for my partner. His scramble was fine taste wise (real eggs). There was absolutely no salt in the scramble, and the veggies tasted pretty raw. I tried my best to make it edible w salt and pepper from the shakers but not great. I literally paid $23 before tax to just eat a biscuit. I should have stuck to my usual and just gone to Cafe Flora. Very disappointing breakfast experience, if you are looking for a savory vegan/veg option.

Located near Greenlake and just off of 45th Street this restaurant is frequently visited by myself and my family. I enjoy bringing friends for breakfast if they come for an early visit. The food is always delicious and well made. Served by friendly staff in a clean restaurant. I have only once had a situation where my waitress did not quite seem to know what was going on but that is definitely not what you would expect each visit. This is a very nice restaurant that you would feel comfortable bringing your friends and family to also. They also have a full bar so you can enjoy a nice selection of drinks while you eat

Google
Nice neighborhood place with a beautiful bar. Great for breakfast & brunch! (The biscuits are HUGE.) Large menu, decent happy hour. I haven't made it for an evening meal yet.

Google
One of our go to places for breakfast. Our first time visiting we tried the giant cinnamon roll, and boy were we surprised by the size! We only ate a third of it and took the rest home. It warmed up great! The bacon cheddar waffle is delicious, definitely a must try! My boyfriend and I share the breakfast combo and “just eggs” plate. Their grilled onion red potatoes are also great and don’t get me started on their pancakes. They almost taste like they have a light sugar coating. Either way they are always cooked to perfection! Also make sure to try the orange juice! It’s a bit on the sweet side. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Blue Star, you need to hire more people! The restaurant seemed to be very understaffed. We could see our waitress running around trying to handle several tables--it took a while to get our order started and when we handed over our cards to pay it took a long time for her to get them back to us. Otherwise it's good for casual brunch--the food was good but nothing special. I had a buttermilk biscuit and found it a little dry and tasteless. They do have a lot of different egg dishes and they are happy to make anything you want. Free coffee refills are a nice touch.

Yelp
A simple and traditional brunch spot with everything egg dish or sandwich you could want. This restuarant is huge and outdated. The food was just okay, nothing special, and a tad pricier than I'd expect. I've been told that this place is known for their house coffee. Perhaps this was an iconic place decades ago, it doesn't stand out to me compared to its neighboring coffee shops. Overall, it's a little run down and basic, but it's everything you need for a casual day of brunch. Reasons to come back: nostalgic decor and extra nice servers.

Yelp
I love good ol' diner style restaurants like this. Reminds me of back east with a proliferation of them. Trying to get a feel for the brunch spots in the area I came on a Sunday Morning. Decent crowd but there were some empty booths. There is table, booth and counter seating as well as some outdoor seating, so even on a busy day I wouldn't expect too long of a wait. I was seated quickly dining just myself, bitter sweetness of the large menu hit me. So many tasty sounding options but can only choose one. I decided to take the suggestion of my hostess and opt for the Biscuits and gravy. It didn't turn out to be a good idea. To put it simply I've had far better Biscuits and Gravy. These biscuits were so dense, they may have been stale. Not at all light and fluffy. They had little in the way of taste and the gravy was just alright. Not too much flavor going on with it and some of the best gravy I've had with this dish had little bits of sausage in it. It's supposed to be sausage gravy after all. The eggs were ok, and the potatoes were potatoes, and plenty of them. I'd consider giving it another go here. The menu is huge and the service was decent, but this first go was a bust.

Yelp
One of my favorite brunch spots in Seattle. It can get busy on the weekends but I've never had to wait for a table for 2. They have plenty of seating and the space itself is awesome, feels very old school Seattle with lots of old pictures on the wall. Highly recommend the Top Gun Scramble, and make sure to get it with the potatoes! The toast comes with delicious raspberry jam too. I also love the strawberry waffle with whipped cream.

Yelp
post game brunch on a Saturday they were able to accommodate a large group (12 people including kids). we were split over two tables at first as other tables around us cleared we merged them together and the staff was really great at accommodating it. Onto my food. * cinnamon rolls. so good, warm and HUGE. grab a cup of coffee and some friends because you will need it! * I got the las migas which was so good. think omelet and chips combined topped with meat. The only downside is the potato which was crunchy (not the crispy type of crunch, but the undercooked/raw type of crunch). Overall the food is great, the service is great and we will be back. Note, there is no parking so do give yourself plenty of time to circle around to look for it.

Yelp
Classic diner vibes and generally a good time. Ive been here many times and am just now getting around to writing a review. They have a huge menu full of options. Today I got the Hobo eggs (like a frittata), a biscuit, coffee, and a spicy "Chihuahua" bloody Mary. The Bloody was very good (full of garnishes and a nice spice level). The biscuit was amazing, I'd go back just for that. The "hobo" frittata was a bit dry and dense. My friend ordered a cinnamon roll and it was the size of his head (also a winner in my book). The service was friendly but a bit slow. I have this acid-test for classic diners: do they refill your mug of drip coffee without prompting? At Blue Star I had to ask the server for my warm up (as did my friend who had a 'bottomless soda').

Yelp
Fave local brunch spot! Hangover heaven - not super bright or loud, good breakfast booze for hair of the dog, hearty portions, casual feel, and overall just good food Biscuits are my fave and come with a homemade raspberry jam! Potatoes are also stellar and well seasoned. Good vegetarian options too.

Rae L.

Yelp
I ordered the Rueben. Everything about it is bland. The meat is not corned beef, it's so bland and dry. The sauerkraut tastes like cabbage bathed in vinegar, not sauerkraut. There is a serious lack of cheese and sauce. Same rye bread I get at the store, cheap. Did not enjoy. Will not do again. So very dry. So little cheese. But mostly, SO VERY BLAND!
google avatar

Yelp
Great solid brunch option! Came on a Sunday at around 11am and was seated right away. Food was great - the omelet was huge, and each dish comes with a side of biscuit or scone and they're HUGE. The jam that comes with it is AMAZING. I recommend saving some so you can take it to go and get an additional to-go jam. I'd say the scone was my favorite. Service is a little slow, but other than that a great option for weekend brunch!

Yelp
The food itself was quite average. Went during happy hour and the prices were great, $9 apps and huge portions. Got an espresso martini and it was stronggg. The ambience was cozy and felt very local going here.

Yelp
The Hawaiian waffle is probably the best waffle I have ever had. Fantastic breakfasts with lots of options.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely living for the vibe of this place. Reminds me of somewhere I would have smoked a cigarettes in a booth thirty years ago (without the smell) The breakfast was delicious. I got the chicken and waffles (don't sleep on the siracha maple syrup) and some fried potatoes that were both VERY good the waffle was crunchy and delicious and the chicken tenders were fairly solid, nothing mind blowing but good! The service was prompt, and our food came out quickly.

Kelly B.

Yelp
Wow. Don't go here. If I could leave less than 1 star I would. -Took 15 minutes for a waitress when there were 5 tables with people. -The food brought out didn't have all the ingredients that were listed on the menu. The waitress said they didn't have those ingredients. -No condiments given or asked to bring over. -Cold food. -Once the waitress dropped off the food we didn't see her again until we were done. -What's with the shot size glasses of water?? Food was just BAD. -When we told her the food was bad she said she would give a 25% discount but "she had to charge something". She' took 25% off one item, not the entire bill. Really? Not her fault the food was bad, but the service wasn't much better. We used to come here all the time. It's sad that the place has dissolved into this. Never again.

Yelp
Normally this place is pretty good. Today was really disappointing. Ordered chicken fried steak and it was missing potatoes and gravy. The pancakes were not cooked and didn't come with syrup or butter. While it was fairly busy (nobody waiting) 40 minutes seemed long for a takeout order with two items.

Tiffany D.

Yelp
I order take out from this place almost all the time especially when I'm hung over lol I love the options they have, I have yet to come in but it has saved me multiple times. 10/10

Yelp
We had a group of 7 on a Tuesday night, and the place was basically empty. However, our service was still very slow and at one point we were asked to give up our menus so that another group could have them. (Do they only have 8 menus??) I'm vegan and clarified with the server that the pistachio pasta could be made vegan, as it was marked that way on the online menu but not the paper menu. They assured me yes, it could be made vegan. When we ordered, I asked for the pistachio pasta made vegan. When it arrived, it had cheese on it. The service was already slow and I didn't want to cause a scene (and I'm not allergic to cheese or anything), so I just ate it. And it wasn't eve good. It was lukewarm with globs of melted shaved Parmesan that had re-coagulated. It wasn't very much food, but it was priced at $17. Really truly not worth it. Like, a waste of money. One of my friends ordered the fish tacos and they didn't come out with everyone else's food. The server said "it'll be 2 minutes" but it was literally at least 15 minutes later when he got his food, everyone else was almost done eating. The rest of my non-vegan friends said the food was basically fine. Seems like mediocre food quality for a pretty steep price and the service is very lacking. I will not be back. Also this Yelp page says that they require masks and the staff wears masks--that is not true. The staff was not wearing masks (maybe one person) and they did not require patrons to wear masks.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in almost 15 years, but last weekend we were planning to get breakfast down the street, but the line was too long, so we came here. I honestly forgot how amazing this place is, and now I'm annoyed at myself for not coming for so long. I had a scramble, which I'd never had before; it was amazing, and their biscuits are ridiculously good! My husband had the Reuben, and it may be one of the best I've tried. In short, this place is a gem, and the fact that it's still doing so well, and making delicious food at a reasonable price after all these years speaks volumes! I live almost 30 minutes away, but I plan to return more often. It's worth it! -Oh, and the service is terrific as well!
google avatar

Teresa B.

Yelp
Great food Friendly staff Easy access Don't feel rushed by waitress I'd go there again

Lindsay M.

Yelp
Love this place. Great brunch spot for a big group and also good for dinner with really reasonable prices. The service is great. Only thing that I'd recommend is skip going Monday during trivia unless you want to participate because it is loud!
google avatar

Valerie G.

Yelp
So I was a bit worried about trying this place because it only had 3 stars, but the hangover that I had didn't really care were I ate. Now after eating there, I think the lack of stars might be because they get super busy and food can take a long long time. But service is great, and the food actually taste so good. The restaurant is a cool diner vibe but different from others, and it's pretty big. I got the fruity waffle, which was so delicious. So much whip cream. It had the perfect crisp to it. And then i got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. This was surprisingly really great! It wasn't very spicy, but it tasted so seasoned, crispy, and fresh. The bread was a soft, and everything inside it complimented it.

Yelp
My friend and I meet up here 2-3 times a year to catch up and have breakfast. It has sort of become our tradition. The food is excellent, and we really love the atmosphere and the friendly staff. As far as breakfast places go, this one is a step ahead of the rest.

Yelp
We ordered: - California eggs Benedict - Avocado toast - Blue star egg burrito The Benedict bread was thick, one egg was runny and the other wasn't. About that I thought it may be the delivery so I didn't pay much attention. How we the hollandaise sauce was too liquid, and the overall plate was ok but I will not order this from here again The avocado toast was disgusting. They sent a huge piece of bread, there was almost no avocado on the toast. This has been the worse avocado toast we ever had. We end up throwing half of the avocado toast The burrito was filled with potatoes. We didn't see any bacon until the end of the burrito, which we thought in the beginning we will see a bunch but no, it was almost no bacon. In general we will never order from here again, even if it had a lot of reviews in DoorDash, it is not a good place to order delivery. I don't know if the quality will be better if you go in person, but even if they will say this, I think a good place should always try to keep good standards if you go to the place or if you order delivery
google avatar

Beth H.

Yelp
A super cool vibe! Bloody Mary was delicious. Potatoes and veggies in my corned beef hash were not cooked (crunchy, not good). Asked for new potatoes and got a plate of perfectly fried potatoes. Server seemed anxious to turn over the table... put tab on table and when we asked for another round of Bloody Mary's, she rolled her eyes. Not cool. Regardless, I will come again to try another brunch item.

Tamika A.

Yelp
Very disappointing - my husband and I ordered scrambles and decaf coffee. Both were served cold! We wondered why we hadn't been served after placing our orders and waiting a long time? It was clear our plates had sat in the kitchen or somewhere and wasn't delivered to us in a timely manner. It was a weekday morning, not crowded at all; sorry too much money for poor service.
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
I came here after a fasting blood draw that took way too long, so I was starving! Ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over easy. There was a lot of corned beef, very tasty, not many potatoes. My eggs were not quite cooked, runny white is not appetizing. I selected a biscuit for my bread, and it was so disappointing! HUGE, but dense and almost undercooked. I took most of it home and toasted it the next day. Still not great. Service was excellent.

Yelp
Cinnamon roll review only. I always find myself eating a cinnamon roll wishing there was more frosting. The big hunk of cinnamony doughy goodness at Blue Star did not have me yearning for more frosting though. This thing was drowning in frosting. Let's think through how/why this is the case. I was seated at the bar and to my left could see a bit of the kitchen. I saw a microwave heating up biscuits and assume my CR had a similar fate. This would make the bread (too) warm and the frosting (when poured on with a five gallon bucket) to melt off. I don't say this to disparage the fine experience I had, only to add context. I approached this cinnamon roll as any reasonable person would, outside in. Uncurling the outer rings and (literally) dipping them into the pool of frosting on the plate. It occurred to me after a few minutes, though, that the outer rings are effectively soaking in the frosting. I changed my tactics to cut into the roll pie-style. Not quite to the core - I'm still leaving the best part for last - but about 85% of the way in. For me, this unlocked what would have been a rather dry midsection of the roll to the waiting excess of frosting. The construction of the roll was 5/5. Size: absolutely 5/5. The amount of frosting, also 5/5 (with the aforementioned pie-styler cutting approach). However, the actual dough and cinnamon part left a tiny bit to be desired. I can't, in good conscious, lead the readers to believe the actual cinnamon part of this particular cinnamon roll was five stars. That sticky, gummy core just wasn't quite there for me. Stay diligent, my friends.

Jon ..

Yelp
so good! always! now i'm hungry thinking of their amazing fries... and much more. nice folks too. so glad they survived the pandemic!

Yelp
Whatever happened to Uncle Hoa? He had a great chicken dish with love and character on a long distant memory of a menu here at the Blue Star. I came here for trivia every Monday for the better part of a decade, and each year, after a certain point, the quality would decline noticeably. I've now come back a couple times for trivia after a several year hiatus, and I'm sad to report that at some point the food bottomed out and the service has to begin making the yearly quality sacrifice. Did Uncle Hoa leave and put a hex on the Blue Star for abandoning him and his namesake dish? I suspect so. Today, the food is boring in taste, preparation, and presentation. There's not much to write that you can't see or suspect from the deeply unenthusiastic menu. What's certain is that you will have ample time to contemplate this menu - don't expect a waiter to swing by for 20+ minutes. Once you have ordered, do then expect to let the anticipation build. As your hunger grows, you will ask yourself existential questions like "why didn't I just grab tacos at TNT?" Or "if I leave now, get slice from Pagliacci's, and come back; will I beat my order, and will they even notice?"

Yelp
Great brunch with a lot of exciting food options! Service is pretty quick and friendly without being overbearing. This is a good, reliable brunch spot and I cannot recommend the crab cake eggs Benedict enough. Love that this spot has carafes of Bellinis and mimosas! So yummy!
google avatar

MIke S.

Yelp
Horrible experience - ordered a large brunch order for my entire family for a birthday gathering. The food was mediocre and they didn't provide any Hollandaise for any of the 4 eggs Benedict orders. Then did not respond to calls. Wouldn't recommend this place - not worth it. As an update to the above review, they were thoughtful enough to apologize and refund the order. At the time, it still wasn't the greatest experience, but I appreciate that they refunded me and they cared enough about customer service to reach out to me and make things right.

Yelp
I've been going here for years and this place has really gone downhill. Brunch on the weekends is hit and miss. Getting decent service is like playing Russian roulette, and the restaurant seems to be getting dirtier and dirtier every time I go into this place. went in the other night at 7:30 and got a death look for walking in the door. I asked the disheveled bartender if they were still open and instead of responding she just asked me if I wanted a food menu. never asked if I wanted a drink or a glass of water or anything while her and her coworker chatted and ignored that I was there. I looked at the top of the menu and saw that they do indeed close at 8:00 p.m. based on the warm welcome I received, I knew it wasn't going to be a good experience so I left. (It's obvious they aren't trying to stay open any later in the future) I went in another time for brunch about a month ago. I was sitting in the bar and the bartender took a long time to even acknowledge me. It must of been about 20 minutes before I received the coffee I ordered, the server brought it out and it was filled with coffee grounds. The server put it in front of me and I mentioned the grounds the bartender said I know. And nothing else and started walking away. when I asked if she could replace it for me, she snapped at me and told me I needed to be patient. She then came back with a fresh cup for me. At the end of the day most of the staff looks unshowered and dirty whenever you visit. If they aren't keeping themselves clean, how do you expect them to have good practices when they are serving you? I'm done with this place and I'm bummed because it was a regular stop for me for years.

Yelp
So, I almost didn't come here because it had only 3 stars. But, based on reviews we jumped in. Art murals on side also enticed me. Food was so amazing. Had the Monterrey Scramble and it was one of best. Server was so pleasant. They were busy and it seemed they could use more help. But, that's the way it is these days and we just need to support. Fans in back of restaurant would be nice. And cool toy store next door!! Neat neighborhood
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
Ordered the loaded blue Star burrito, scone and nitro cold brew. The burrito was swell. The scone was the best I've ever had! I bought it as a munch for coffee, it stole the show. Great place with many options. Closes at 3pm. Edit: a week later I am back. Had the fruity waffles and combo upgrade with 2 eggs and meat. Next time I'm trying the scrambles.

Jim O.

Yelp
Service ok Ambience: loud Coffee: meh Scrambled eggs: nasty and watery Sausage patty: burnt, dry and tasteless Norwegian crepes: rubbery and tasteless Eggs Benedict: nasty

Yelp
Good variety and prices for the area. Food was regular pub style and the service was great

Yelp
Greatest breakfasts and biscuits. Love their California Omelets. Ambiance is worn and tired but a widow seat is fine.
google avatar

Yelp
Always great, love going there every time I have such a fun experience. Had a fancy big bloody mary with cheese, peppers and asparagus. I highly recommend this spot but was disappointed on the way out to see an OK rating by the health department.
google avatar

Forest B.

Yelp
Really delicious breakfast options here. My personal fav is the Eggs Benedict, but everything here is very good!
google avatar

Shania G.

Yelp
The only reason why i would give blue star 4 stars is because of the awful wait we had to endure for the food but we did go during brunch on a Sunday which is from 8am-3pm. Don't be discouraged because you can still order dinner menu items before 3pm! It didn't seem like there were that many people in the Cafe since we got seated within five minutes. But the kitchen just seemed so backed up. Our waitress only popped out of the kitchen every 15 min so it was hard to add on to the order to bring something like the cinnamon roll out. I ordered the cinnamon roll about 30 min after ordering the main breakfast dish because i was so hungry, i thought the cinnamon roll would just be easy to bring out - something to much on while we waited. But it actually came out with the food. And boy was there a lot of food.
google avatar

Rocky M.

Yelp
What a great place for brunch! After our morning run we came in around noon and were served our food within 15 minutes of being seated. The whole place has a cool vintage pub feel. Big recommendation are the biscuits and sausage gravy and the build your own scramble. YUM!

Janet W.

Yelp
Nice well rounded menu. Good hours, happy hour. Handy little place for dinner and drinks in Wallingford.
google avatar

Bryon B.

Yelp
Today I got the Potatoes "Plus" only a couple potatoes were edible the rest could have been used as Wood Chips due to how over cooked they are. The bacon was bunt to a crisp and not crispy bacon burnt Charred crispy bacon... Yuck! On top of that my girlfriend got the California eggs Benedict with Rotten Avocados, wimpy Tomatoes, and a Hamburger bun for one half of her Eggs Benedict and the other half was an English muffin. How lazy could one be to use half a Hamburger bun and the other half an English muffin? Talk about disgusting, if your looking for a breakfast joint go to Denny's.
google avatar

Susan Z.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 4 stars for the delicious espresso martini (they use Godiva liqueur) and friendly staff. I've come here around happy hour to finish out my work day with a drink. I was the only one who brought a laptop, but the restaurant was relatively empty around 4pm and they have wifi available. I would not really recommend coming here for the food, which in my experience has just been okay.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the best service a week ago by Buggy. She was fantastic and made the environment fun for my friend and I while we grabbed a quick drink. Would recommend her as a server to anyone at Blue Star!
google avatar

Sasha C.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW. If I could give 10/10 I would. Their menu is amazing all through the day. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and makes you feel like you're eating at home with friends/family. It's my new favorite spot easily. If you want a great drink and even better service, (well the drink is amazing but you get it.) ask for Tyler, although the ENTIRE STAFF is kind, accommodating, fast, and efficient. Truly couldn't have asked for a better experience at all. Thank you Blue Star Get a DOUBLE espresso martini, it somehow pairs JUST right with the amazing chicken fried steak, eggs and mash ;) I'll. Be. Back.

Yelp
Great salads and burgers for a good price. Also alot of good brews. A good to 0lacr for a reasonably priced good dinner

Yelp
Breakfast was huge and most of the food was very delicious. All potatoes were under cooked. Service was outstanding

Yelp
I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and the chicken was literally raw in the middle. I used to really like this place but they gotta be more careful.

Yelp
This cafe has so much to recommend, I'm not sure where to begin.... Brunch is their wheelhouse, as far as I'm concerned. Bloody Marys are delicious and available in many varieties, most of which include snacks (celery, olive, cheese, bacon, etc etc). Skip the coffee unless you're desperate - overpriced ($4.25?!) for being so...meh. Otherwise, food is solid on all fronts - have yet to find something I dislike. Many vegetarian & vegan options. Service is generally quick and accommodating. Age-diverse crowd; a bit noisy but not impossible to hear.

Yelp
Dirty place. Food is terrible and overpriced. Service was very good though. Feel bad for the servers since they don't stand a chance here. Three people, four orders. All over priced and yet terrible. Stale ingredients and no flavor. Coffee is weak. How do you charge 4.25 for drip coffee.
