A takeout order on a whim for me. If anyone over there is in marketing, the argument for taking the financial hit of being on the delivery apps is that someone like me might find a coupon and try something they wouldn't have otherwise. I'd certainly driven by this place, but I'm not a big sushi person or a chain store person so I ignored it until now when a special offer came up and I literally couldn't find any other place to use it on.
As a vegetarian, I don't find that Japanese is the best cuisine for me, but here, there is a large vegan menu. At many sushi places you're lucky to find even inari and the tofu and soup will be covered in fish flakes. Here, there is a fantastic range of options, including conventional vegetable and tofu-based rolls, but also something called "caviart", which I had to look up but which turns out to be a seaweed-based vegan replacement for caviar, which is genius.
I had a good takeout experience, with everything beautifully packed (the one large container all my sushi came in is a nice efficient way of doing things), and the person working there made sure to keep the ice cream for my dessert spring rolls on the opposite side of the bag from the miso soup. Upon unboxing all of this, it was aesthetically pleasing food that I think my pictures will slightly undersell. There was the expected pickled ginger and wasabi (I don't know enough to know if it was real, but it did have a strong kick). It really felt like the full experience of eating sushi without the fish part. My favorite might have been the shiitake mushroom and sweet potato, but crunchy cabbage and tofu was pretty delicious too and the vegan caviar was a salty and texturally interesting experience. The miso soup was good, but not enough of a portion to be worthwhile. The spring rolls with raspberries, ice cream, and two different sauces were a really marvelous dessert (this was the only non-vegan thing I ordered, but there were vegan desserts).
It was on the pricey side, but given how long I've searched for something like this and how good the food was, I'm okay with it. I would also note that they have vegan specials on Tuesday, and I'm pretty sure I'll be back to dine in person.
