Bluebird Cafe

I’m always checking floors and how much attention is needed to be clean. Silverware wrappers, sugar wrappers and the bathroom were all in need of attention and none of it got done while we were there. With that being said, our waiter was good and a super attitude! Food was good, not great. The butter should on the waffle. The corned beef could or should have a meat juice gravy option, it was a lil bit dry. The flavors of both plates did not disappoint. We would return again!

The hashbrowns were terrible, the krakatoa omlet was a mixed bag...overcooked but decent flavor. The wheat toast was the best part of this breakfast. The two severs were ok.

After eating here 3 days in a row my report is that the food is very inconsistent. One day you may have a great meal and the 2 other days it is sub par. Most of the customers seem to be the same people so maybe no one looks at this review. Servers on all 3 days were great.

The Bluebird never disappoints! The staff is friendly and always says hello on arrival and that is important to me. I never want to be treated as a burden when entering a restaurant, and the Bluebird is the opposite of that. The food is wonderful and reasonably priced. I've tried everything from the breakfast (my favorite and you can order it all day) to the salads to the burgers and sandwiches and it is delicious every time!

First time being here(2/6/26) with my girlfriend and it was so good. The food was so good like honestly everything was cooked so perfect. Definitely one of the best services and food quality around. Seriously food is so freaking good !! Hernan was our server and was very prompt and accommodating. Just amazing all around!! 10/10 recommend.

Little cute place that has sort a small neighborhood vibe, Honestly I think they could do better with a bit more knowledge of their menu and quality of food but the staff was friendly. I clearly seemed to rub them the wrong way when I unfortunately had to return my meal. As a long time hospitality and food service manager myself, as well as a vegan I pride myself in dining spots that will allow myself and my husband (non vegan) to enjoy a meal together, all the more I’m extremely emotional with my food because it can be a hard journey, being vegan (dietary restrictions) while being pregnant as well. I was excited when I was informed they had a beyond burger it’s one of my favorite substitutions. You can imagine my surprise to a Garden patty(made of pulsed veggies) instead of my fan favorite Beyond burger (photos attached) As well as my husband ordering a NY strip and receiving a fatty almost ribeye? (Maybe our fault for ordering steak at a breakfast joint) but you don’t judge a book is my motto. Even as two Black people driving thru Iowa I expected this city known for its community to welcome us but I felt pretty judged by the staff and local residents for having a preference and dietary needs. Nonetheless, if you can appear as simple and in the box as possible, you’ll probably love this place.

Outside for a brunch, completely shaded and comfy. Inside dif smell like a traditional diner. I had Huevos Azul and did not go away hungry. Took the hash browns and someone's extra scrambled eggs home.the French Fries that others had seemed to lack that crispness that I enjoy and we're not salted at all.

Came on Saturday for breakfast with my 2 girlfriends. The service was not great. Our server was beautiful but we felt so rushed and uncomfortable. I got 2 sides: a cinnamon roll & sausage patty. My cinnamon roll was huge! It was only $6. It was super sweet. My sausage patties were hard as rocks and not enjoyable. The best part of our visit was probably the iced coffee. We made the most of our experience but most likely will not be coming back.

The food is great here and the inside is beautiful. I will say that it's typically very busy so service could sometimes be a little overwhelmed since lots of families come here for breakfast and family gatherings. I would say you have a better chance going here with a smaller group than with a larger one. Since they don't have a lot of seating that can accommodate very large groups.

Rolled into Bluebird Café in North Liberty when it was packed wall-to-wall, fully expecting to grow old in the booth before my food came. Instead, my bacon cheeseburger showed up so fast I barely had time to scroll TikTok twice. Juicy, cheesy, and that bacon? Chef's kiss. Busy or not, these people know how to hustle and feed you like you're the favorite child.

This is my number one stop for breakfast in the morning. It's conveniently located next to my job and always has a great seat at the diner. Friendly staff, quick food, and great customer service. Love, love love the North Liberty Bluebird!

Super friendly staff. Clean cafe with cute decorations and comfy booths. The food was delicious and came out relatively quickly with how busy they were. If you are looking for a traditional breakfast spot, this is the place to go.

Though I'm not a local, this place will be top on my itinerary for future visits. The staff was attentive, efficient and friendly and the food well prepared, with generous servings. Great value!

Stopped in on a Sunday morning and boy were they busy. They gave us a wait time of 30 minutes and that was pretty accurate. Once seated, a drink order was taken quickly and they had a dedicated drink crew keeping the drinks flowing. It was a bit slow to get our order taken and then the kitchen was really slammed so it took a while to get our food. Once our food arrived, all was great as the food was excellent. You can easily forgive a long wait when the order is correct and the food is excellent! Bottom line, be patient when you know that a restaurant is very busy.

I stopped by Bluebird Cafe this Saturday morning around 8:30 am and only had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated, which wasn't bad at all. I built my own egg omelette with asparagus, onions, bell peppers, spinach, feta cheese, and added a side of pesto and smoked salmon. It came with hashbrowns on the side. The omelette was delicious, although the hashbrowns were a bit overcooked. One concern I had was that some of the young ladies preparing the orders weren't wearing gloves when handling food like the toast. I saw them touching their pants, hair, and cellphones, which made me question the hygiene. They should consider wearing gloves for food safety, especially with items like toast that are handled directly. On a positive note, our waitress was very pleasant and checked on us frequently, which made the experience even better. My girlfriend ordered a vegan omelette with toast, and she had no issues with her meal. We both enjoyed our teas--she had green tea, and I went with peppermint. The little tea pot were a nice touch, and the overall atmosphere of the cafe was cozy, even though it was busy.

Breakfast is always good! Nice variety and prices. Service is great! Get there early especially on weekends because there is a waiting list!

I'm not impressed with a lot of breakfast restaurants, but I was definitely impressed with Bluebird. They make a Krakatoa omelet with citrus cream cheese (I got it without bacon) & I was blown away with how original & delicious it was. Our server was also very sweet.

Let me just start by saying that I went to this place by myself at 7am to study for an important exam, so it wasn't busy (as far as I was aware). I am also very big into food, but ever so slightly picky in how things taste. However, the food was deliciously perfect! The biscuits and gravy were on point. Secondly, the server was amazing at what she did. She made sure that all her tables were given what they needed very efficiently and quickly. Third, the ambiance was wonderful! Very clean and very nice! I loved the music that played and the decor they had all over the walls. The process for the bill was quick as well... I felt bad because I had stayed for longer than what people typically stay for, but they never made me feel rushed to leave or forced me out, so thank you! (And thank you for complimenting my card! You're so kind! ) Lastly, as a person who worked in the food industry before, working in a restaurant is a very tough job to do. At times, it can get very overwhelming for them. That being said, please give them all grace to get to you. There's often a lot of people in their section and only one them. Thank you all for your hard work and service!

Bluebird serves wonderful food and great coffee. I always enjoy my visits, it is always a good choice!

We usually have a really good breakfast. The last 3 visits, the bacon has been soggy for both our meals. Servers, please tie your hair back. we don't want your hair touching our food as you deliver and lean over to place the food down.

Good food, great people! They always are ready to serve we a big smiles. Breakfast is the best in eastern Iowa.

A Friday night at about 7 pm with mostly moms, dads, and their kids. A homey atmosphere. I ordered meatloaf. Nice ambiance. My waitress lazily plunked my set up onto the tabletop in the middle of nowhere, instead of where it was supposed to go, on my side of the table. I decided I wanted coffee but my waitress, Josie, cut me short and rushed off, having failed to ask if I wanted cream in my coffee, which I did. The portion was gigantic and it tasted pretty good. The side of of fried onions and peppers was a little greasy. I wish I could say it was piping hot, but it was not. Instead, all the items were lukewarm which meant the plate had sat at the window waiting to be picked up while she gabbed with her buddies. Good meatloaf, nicely-sized portion but nearly cold. After the meal, I ordered chocolate cake for dessert. I watched Josie remove what looked like the sole surviving, a plastic-wrapped portion, from under the bar. On its last legs, the hunk of cake was shamefully inedible, Dry as a bone, and hard like a rock. I sent it back without taking a single bite. I dawdled over coffee. When I motioned that I was ready for my ticket, Josie promptly plunked it down on my table, asking if I wanted a to-go box. I said yes which she quickly delivered. But she failed to ask how the meal tasted and never took the opportunity to ask if I wanted anything further. Marginal service. At about midnight, I vomited on and off for about five or ten minutes. The rank taste in my mouth: Regurgitated meatloaf. Disappointing meal. Should I go back?

We loved our server who seemed like a professional. I wish I knew his name but he had a super cool rose tattoo on his upper right arm and a tattoo world map on his left lower arm. He was friendly, the service was quick, and attentive. Our food was tasty. The Krakatoa omelet was delicious yet interesting with the citrus cream cheese. I couldn't tell if I enjoyed the citrus notes or not, but I ate the whole omelet. The cinnamon roll French toast is exactly what you'd expect. It's not super eggy like the French toast I make at home but it's definitely not just a cinnamon roll either. The sausage is homemade and sweet. The diner itself was cute and has a variety of seating; booths, two-top tables, outdoor seating, bar tops. It was an overall good experience.

Fun and Intimate diner style. They have good pancakes and creative breakfast/brunch items. We liked the omelette and eggs Benedict. Decent coffee. Service was attentive and great.

Overall a great little diner. Lots of food choices & you can order breakfast at any time during the day! Service was good. Only thing ish they had flavored creamers & that my hash browns were so soggy.

The smile when you come in, the gathering of people and the cutest server in the whole world...oh, the food!!! Yes, the food WAS MEMORABLE and delicious!!! I gave this place 5 stars, that I'm selfish with; because they're that phenomenal! Try them asap, and enjoy!

It was busy. But I got sat at the counter and my server was fast, accurate and friendly. The food was good. Will go back.

Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner - Bluebird does it all with ease. It's a "go-to" for many locals, a place to bring guests, and a place to grab takeout when you can't decide on dinner. Bluebird has become one of my top places to order out from. Bluebird is also normally very fast, so while you may have to wait a long time for orders to be ready elsewhere, that's not the case here. Their specials are what helps them rise to the top, in my opinion. The variety in the specials is enjoyable and means that you won't get tired of ordering the same thing over and over. If you eat in, make sure to check the board on your way in; and if you call for takeout, ask what their specials are (they also often post them on social media, but not all the time).

Service was horrible. The server was an older lady (maybe late 50s) but she was very rude and passive. She was chatting with a manager maybe or another server? The lady was walking around the entire time not helping customers. The food came out cold and dry from sitting in the window. The overall restaurant was okay but the music was horrible as it played the same song 3 times within those two hours I was there.

Ordered takeout but unfortunately when we got back home we found out we were missing 1/2 of our order. Called them and had to run back. Fair.... The staff didn't care at all about the inconvenience. Simple tasks could be completed by your staff to ensure the full orders are provided. Now we get eat cold breakfast. Great!

Bluebird is a solid breakfast spot and is appreciated as there aren't a lot of breakfast options in North Liberty. As others noted, it does get pretty busy because of this. They are pretty quick once you order though. While they do offer lunch/dinner items, they are more known for breakfast which is served all day. I like to try different items whenever I go there, and I haven't found anything I dislike. I definitely recommend the cinnamon rolls. They are huge, so you may need to share!

Party of 3. First of all, just let me say, I rarely give a 5 star review. Very few places hit every mark spot on. Seated straight in the door, I expected a wait, but they're on top of it! Drinks came out quickly. Took us a few minutes to order, being our first time here. Crab cakes on a hoagie with remoulade sauce, perfect, refills right there, perfect, beer battered fish, perfect, hamburger's juicy deliciousness, perfect. Cleanliness, perfect, even the restrooms. Homemade ranch. This is like the test of all tests when you're a devout lover of ranch. PERFECT. I am seriously blown away by this establishment and plan on making this a regular stop while in the area. I enjoy eating local, but enjoy it even more when it's delicious AND local! I can't wait to go back to purchase one of those cute coffee mugs!

I've always had a good experience dining at Bluebird Cafe and ordering my meals out now is just the same. I've picked up my meals twice now and the food is delicious, and, the best part, ready to go in 10 minutes! I've ordered a basic eggs, toast, hash browns, and sausage breakfast to go and it was so filling and good. The staff was great about making sure I had utensils and condiments to go along with my meal before I left. The second time I ordered, I had the Big Person Grilled Cheese. Yum! Perfect blend of melted cheese on thick bread and great fries. I will always keep Bluebird at the front of my mind as a go-to place for (almost) anything I'm in the mood for. You will not be disappointed ordering from Bluebird Cafe!

Long wait time of over an hour. So went to Iowa city was 30-40 minutes. It's always been great food but I can't stand that long. I'm physically disabled

One of the best breakfast I have ever had. Pancakes are out of this world and enormous. Corn beef hash was perfection. Service was spot on. Do your self a favor and go.

If you have only one chance for a breakfast in North Liberty Iowa, go here! Selections, food preparation and staff are top notch. Comfortable ambience as well. She really enjoyed her omelet. My gravy with hash browns and eggs were nearly perfect. Tiny dings on the quantity of gravy (maybe another dollop next time?) and my biscuits were a little under done (sorry, pet peeve).

I ordered the Cobb salad as a carry out. Best Cobb salad I've had anywhere. Other orders by family members were also great!

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Super busy, so the 15 minute wait for a table was understandable. We had to wait probably 30 minutes after placing our orders but it was well worth it. The Popeyes omelette was delicious and the hash browns were great too. Pancakes are good but could use some more vanilla. The decor is cool, lots of mirrors everywhere which really makes the place feel bigger. Very good spot for breakfast overall

I went to Bluebird Cafe in North Liberty after an appointment that I had nearby. I ordered their Baby Spinach Salad along with an English muffin with jelly. The food tasted delicious and the service was good as well. My waitress never let my water get empty which was great, especially considering I drink a lot of water. In the past, I have visited this same Bluebird Cafe and ordered a build-your-own omelette and was not disappointed then either. I will definitely visit again in the future. Overall, a great experience.

Drove there today while heading south. Got off the interstate because of the good reviews. Imagine our surprise and disappointment that this address is now a Happy Joe's Pizza!!!

Nice outdoor seating, but the flies were terrible. They need to scrub the outside floor. Tables need sanitized very well. Uncomfortable seating. Pancakes were too doughy and think. Had to beg for coffee refills. Not too many options for breakfast in the area, so prices are very high. Good parking though. Never checked out the restrooms. Morning dun encumbered a pleasant experience, be nice if they could putt up something to shade you.

What do you say about bluebird Café that has not already been said? This is simply the quintessential brunch spot on a Sunday morning. Frankly, nothing is spectacular but at the same time nothing is ever bad. It is simply a safe place to eat. The coffee is really good. Waffles are really good, if not overpriced. The hamburgers are really good. Everything is really good. Like I said. It is safe. That is assuming you can get a seat on a Sunday morning, which is always a challenge. If there is a frustration with the menu items, it is that they do not offer chicken and waffles. They have chicken strips. They have waffles. Why not combine the two into the ever trendy chicken and waffles plate? The only other negative I can think of, which is what keeps this from being a five star review, is that the service is very very hit or miss. Sometimes you have a server that seems to always be on top of refilling your drinks and/or checking in on you. Other times, it feels as if you are the last people on the planet, trying to get a refill of coffee. Considering the price of a cuppa coffee, you should always try to get at least two or three cups. If you are looking for a safe brunch spot on A Sunday morning and have an extra 45 minutes of patience to wait, this is your spot.

I enjoy north liberty more than the downtown Iowa city location. The space is newer and more comfortable with their spacious booths. I highly recommend their fish and chips. The breading on the fish was fresh and flakey. Honestly some of the best I've had. The krakota omelet is my absolute favorite. The citrus cream cheese blew me away. The hash browns were straight buttery and amazing. The veggie omelet was standard and the cinnamon roll French toast was a but dry. Free refills on coffee

Terrible service. My boyfriend and I came in for lunch and were seated quickly as the restaurant was not busy- however, after ordering our food we were completely ignored. I asked for creamer for my coffee and eventually had to flag down the waitress after waiting over 20 minutes. We then continued waiting for our food for over 40 minutes until we went up to a worker who was looking over receipts, who immediately told us our food was not being made. Our server then came up and interrupted our conversation to talk to the worker while completely ignoring us. We asked again about our food and the server also told us it wasn't being made (after an hour mind you). She asked for my order AGAIN to make our food on the house but after waiting so long and experiencing such rude, disorganized service, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. I didn't catch the server's name but she was an older blonde lady.

Great food great service, friendly staff, food delivered to the table quickly, they don't pressure you to leave after your meal at all!! Prices are reasonable also!

I love Bluebird and always go there for breakfast when I'm in town. Great food, service and ambiance. They are famous for their cinnamon roll French toast, which is beyond delicious.

Gf pancakes were delicious! Only thing is, I wish there were an option for one pancake with eggs and breakfast meat - sausage, ham, bacon - to combine sweet and salty. It was a lot of carbs and sugar that my body just didn't like :( But this is a great place and I recommend it for anyone!

My favorite spot for breakfast in all of Iowa city in Coralville. I hate to share this because they're always busy and I don't want any more of you people going there! The food is fantastic they have great variety and it's not just breakfast. They have burgers and sandwiches etc. they even have a full bar from what I can tell with bloody Mary's! Thank God. I haven't had the eggs Benedict which was amazing. The huevos Azul which was amazing. And the corn beef hash with your first glance I wasn't so sure about but trust me you have to try it it might be my new favorite. Don't judge a book by its cover. Just go order eat try something new. You can thank me later send cash in an unmarked envelope

Don't know how to make a chai latte. (Served it in a mug and was ice cold.) Proceeded to serve burnt food. Terrible
