It is with a profound sense of dissatisfaction that I write this review of a restaurant that, by all accounts, ought to have been a pleasurable experience. Alas, the contrast between the food, which was indeed excellent, and the service, which was as dismal as any I have encountered, has compelled me to speak plainly.
To begin, it strikes me as an absurdity that a restaurant would accept a reservation for a party of six at 7:30pm, when the kitchen, as we later discovered, closed at 8:00pm. The bar, we were informed, would cease operation a mere half hour later. This lack of foresight or communication on the part of the establishment meant that we were forced to place our orders before all members of our party had arrived, leading to a series of disappointments when certain dishes were presented to diners who had not had the opportunity to choose for themselves.
As for the waitstaff, they were not only unhelpful but shockingly ill-informed. Our server was unable to provide even the most basic details regarding the menu and appeared baffled when we inquired about the house condiments - an oversight which, in a restaurant of any standing, is wholly inexcusable. Worse still, our cocktail orders were bungled, and upon requesting replacements, we were curtly informed that the bar had already closed. This, we were told, without the courtesy of a prior warning, leaving us to wonder if we were ever meant to enjoy our meals in full.
There is a certain subtle hostility that pervades establishments where the staff regard their customers as inconveniences rather than guests. Sadly, this was precisely the impression we were left with. The food was undeniably well prepared, but good food is scarcely enough to salvage a night when the service is so conspicuously lacking in both competence and courtesy.
In summary: excellent cuisine marred by poor service and a level of indifference that borders on disdain. We will not be returning.
