"If you're an artist in LA, one of your goals is probably to get a show at Blum & Poe, one of, if not the, best LA galleries for contemporary art. It's a wonderfully big and airy space, and there's always something interesting showing. "

Blum is a must-see gallery in LA. I have visited upwards of six times now … They represent a diverse selection of artists and I always look forward to their shows. The gallery itself features both a lower and upstairs level, plus a garden around the corner in the back. I generally spend 20 to 40 minutes here. There’s something serene and peaceful about the space.

Beautiful exhibition of Yoshitomo Nara happening at Blum and Poe Gallery! Great to go with your kids if they love art like mine!

Beautifully maintained building with 3 exhibit spaces. Some very serious pieces - some on justified black protest, one gallery on the plight of a Polish woman and women in her country - you can feel the weight of her feelings.

Super stoked that this exhibit features a ton of Japanese artists. Really happy to see some works from Lee Ufan, Susumu Koshimizu, and Yayoi Kusama. Was definitely happy to discover new Japanese artists as well! I know most people may be visiting to see Yoshitomo Nara, but I highly encourage to take time to view the other artists as well, and simply explore the rest of the gallery as you’ll very likely discover something new for yourself.

Been to this museum multiple times before and I’ve never had an issue. The exhibitions are well curated and the area is beautiful. However, recently on Tuesday, I visited to see the Nara Yoshitomo exhibition and my boyfriend and I were checking out the books. We wanted to know the prices of one of them that was located on the display table, as well as purchase a hat, so we asked the lady at the front desk and was given some attitude as we weren’t for sure which book it was. Understanding that they do have multiple Nara Yoshitomo art books, I tried to explain that it was the one located on the table with a blue spine. But throughout the process of trying to figure out which book it was, the lady was condescending. She stated that they had several books of his and we needed to be specific. I felt slightly off put by her attitude as I figured some kind customer service would be helpful for a situation like this. As someone who does work in customer service, I understand it may be frustrating or tiring, the tone and attitude given to us was unprompted as we did not give any to her. We simply just wanted to know the price of a book.

I went into an Yoshitomo Nara exhibition today and I brought my umbrella inside and didn't notice there was a container to hold umbrellas at the entrance I came through because it was so close to the door that I walked right past it (because my field of vision was just looking straight ahead towards the hallway to the exhibit - I came in through the side entrance next to the street). In the exhibit, I asked a girl to take my photo, so I set my umbrella aside on the floor so it wouldn't be in the photo. Then this security guard with blonde hair came up to me (as I was about to take photos) and told me that there was a container at the entrance to put it in, in which I was like "Okay yeah sounds good!" After I just finished taking my photos (which took like 1 min), I was looking at them quickly while I was walking back towards where I put my umbrella (to put back) - then he comes up to me again and says "Did you hear what I just said?? You need to put it back so the floors don't get wet." And I said "Yeah I was going to put it back right now after I just took those photos..." He said it in such a condescending tone and it was honestly quite rude and made me feel bad :( . Of course I was going to put it back, he didn't have to tell me twice. I was just trying to enjoy the exhibit, and it sucks when an interaction like that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I went into the next exhibit which had the colored Yoshitomo Nara work and the security guard there was soo nice! Made me feel a lot more comfortable and welcome than the last one.

I visited during Gallery Weekend and was absolutely blown away. There was an artist conversation, zine reading, and film screening. I left feeling inspired and invigorated.

Yelp
I've been seeing this gallery all over my social media platforms and I really excited to find out that they had work from Yoshimoto Nara, Yukinori Yanagi, Susumi Koshimizu, etc. the place itself is small, but it is 100% worth it to go. The good thing about this location is that you can walk up and down the street and find other smaller exhibits. Which was really nice! Overall, which a great place to visit!

Yelp
Me and my son went to this place for Nara, and my kid is very young and active, When my son was flipping through the book, a man in black yelled at him,and I know it's best to keep quiet in an art gallery, but you can't yell at a child especially you are a stranger and I don't know if you are a staff member or a visitor, but at least you need to have quality education, the app map website says there is a sign saying it is 'good for kids'! The worst exhibition I've ever had!

Yelp
Experience: Went on a Saturday evening around 5pm. Only two patrons in there, which was perfect for me since I love roaming around empty gallery spaces. Went to check out Alma Allen's exhibit of abstract sculptures, which was in the smaller gallery space outside but also stood to enjoy Friedrich Kunath's "I Don't Know The Place, But I Know How To Get There" in the main space. Wonderful spacious gallery, open windows, large white walls, cute little bench area with string lights, and free entry. Location & parking: Easy peasy! Parked in their parking lot, plenty of space on a Saturday evening. Big points for this. Vibes: Not the friendliest staff, which I'm used to in these art spaces. They never greet me, smile, or if I ask a question, look at me like they just saw a ghost. Nonetheless, I went to see art, and that is exactly what I got. Huge wide space to roam around and admire art in, my dream. I used to gallery hop in NYC all the time, and this space can easily compete with David Zwirner's, Pace's, or Gagosian's gallery space. Top tier. Overall: This will be one of my go to galleries in the city, looking forward to visiting more often.

Yelp
One of the best galleries in LA. Beautiful space and well curated exhibits. Easy parking behind the building is also a plus for that area :)

Yelp
Cool art, a free parking lot, wheelchair accessible (elevator available), clean bathroom, and not crowded at all Only con was the unfriendly staff, which others echoed in their reviews, so one star off for that. Will come again!

Yelp
So cool they offer workshops here. Took ikebana class in conjunction with Asuka A Ogawa Exhibition. I dropped in last minute and made a nice arrangement. Enjoyed looking at Ogawa's art too. Hope they offer more workshops in the future.

Yelp
If you park in front of the building, you will notice there is an Interesting hidden door awaits. If not of the existence of a handle, I would have never guessed it is an entrance. The corridor in the entry way has some subtle architecture elements that keep the suspense. Love the exhibits and look forward to come here in the near future. Clip here! AGAIN, you got to see it with your own eyes:) meet up with someone, exchange few conversations with the alike. https://www.instagram.com/tv/BwV_2hxHElF/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=2tqzulw71r47

Yelp
Beautiful gallery. Great layout with wide open white space. Got to view the works of Takashi Murakami & Yoshimoto Nara. Dont forget to go upstairs!

Yelp
I saw two equally beautiful exhibits here, including Mimi Lauter's Sensus Oxynation and Enrico David. Sensus Oxynation is a burst of beautiful colors contrasting perfectly with the bright white interior building. One paintings in particular reminded me of my favorite flower: the sunflower. Of course this made me happy. Enrico David consisted of sculptures and large portraits utilizing mixed media. Museum admission is free. There is a small (free) parking lot just out front.

Yelp
It was an exhibition painting and sculpture by Takashi Murakami. Nice gallery, very enjoyable viewing. Great layout, wide open spaces with couple of rooms featuring his collections. The first gallary walk in couple huge panoramic painting. The details on it was so amazing, you can stand there for couple hours and find different things on each demonic monsters and monks. The 2nd gallery was happier with smiley faces and very colorful and the third gallery was him and his dogs. i enjoy every pieces that was there today.

Yelp
Beautiful gallery. They change it every month. Good to bring your friends or a date. And it's free so it's worth it.

Yelp
I went on Saturday for the Takashi Murakami show. There was a reception where they had Tecate and water (I saw someone with wine but I don't know where she got that from). Parking wasn't difficult since I arrived early but there was a valet as well. The gallery is small (two large rooms, about 8 large paintings) so we were done like in 10 minutes but we took a couple of tours around to take a look at the details. There was a tiny office area where you could purchase prints. It was a great event. Bonus- it's just a few doors down from the Mandrake, which is my favorite bar in Culver City.

Yelp
Good freaking god, their new space is grand. Massive. Too big, even, to be called a gallery-- this is a series of galleries. A for-profit museum, really. It's at least four times the size of their old space across the street. And speaking of, with galleries like these Culver City can hardly be called up and coming. With works by Murakami, Hawkinson, and Koons, I think it's safe to say Culver City's art scene is no longer young and hip but grand and glorious. Blum & Poe even has a parking lot.

Yelp
Simple, spacious gallery space. The building is home to others that must use it for research and the like. Parking is in back so no worries about battling La Cienega parking during the rush hour traffic. No charge for your visit here - a plus!

Yelp
Came here for the Arhat exhibit by Takashi Murakami - which is AMAZING!!! Huge, panoramic paintings, gold, platinum, and bronze statues, and art that's super detailed, complicated, genius, and mesmerizing! From outside on the street, the building looks like an old, unmarked, and a solid door that one could mistaken the gallery to be closed. But just open it and walk up the stairs, turn left and you're there. And once inside, you're baffled that it's so much bigger than what you thought it to be. parking is tricky since it is off La Cienega Blvd, you gotta park on the street and walk, but I'm sure whatever exhibit your checking out will make it worth it.

Yelp
Blum and Poe is one of the best gallery spaces in LA. It is definitely the most venerated in Culver City, inhabiting an impressive lot on La Cienega. Their ability to attract blue chip artists is amazing; I recently met Chuck Close here. In fact, it's been 20 years since NY-based artist showed here. Awesome.

Yelp
Founded by Jeffrey Poe and Timothy Blum, this gallery is about 13 years old. In a little over a week, the next exhibition is Yoshitomo Nara! They've showed major international artists like Mark Grotjahn, Sam Durant, and Sharon Lockhart. This gallery moved to Culver City in 2003 but next year they're moving across the street for more space. When I visit (I don't go to the openings, can't always see anything past the party), no one ever pushes me to buy anything.

Yelp
One night, my boyfriend and I were here for the opening of the Yoshitomo Nara exhibit. We got to meet Yoshitomo Nara, one of our favorite artists and we were completely blown away by his exhibit. The gallery itself is nicely laid out. There's a lot of space, so you don't feel like you're elbow to elbow with other people or waiting in line from one painting to another- which I love. There's a sense of privacy and you can take your time with each piece. What makes this place wonderful, however, is the roster of artists they feature.

Yelp
This is normally a great gallery. Pretty sad that they are showing celebrities hobbies instead of real art now a days. What's next? Justin Bieber and Chris Brown's street art exhibition? Tim Blum has really lost it in his old age I guess.....
google avatar

Arjay B.

Yelp
Very low key. Really nice if you enjoy minimalistic art, but felt as if the exihibitions were kinda small.

Sandie B.

Yelp
I mean...it's kind of an institution. For me, it's THE place to see art anywhere close to the Westside. A few years ago, they had an amazing Chuck Close show, and they're always showcasing fantastic artists. Parking is pretty easy on the street. Don't expect friendly staff. Go for the art, and ignore the eyebrow that raises at the front desk when you walk in wearing shorts, a tank top, and slightly broken flip flops...

Yelp
Great exhibits. I've been to many of the local galleries in the area and I've always been impressed with these guys. Top notch crew working here.

Yelp
most beautiful gallery space I've ever seen. They really understand space and art.
