The Best Bars In Athens, Georgia - The Infatuation

"Boar’s Head is usually too packed to even talk to a bartender, so have a simple drink order at-the-ready to yell across the bar. Besides, hovering barside isn’t why you’re at this decades-old downtown establishment. You’re here for the music. Standing three stories high with indoor and outdoor stages, Boar’s Head has a spot for everyone willing to squeeze in. Up-and-coming local artists perform covers and original songs, so find a seat outside to get a good show. And if you’re prepared to taste somebody else’s breath, head downstairs to dance, shoot billiards, and play shuffleboard in between songs." - delaney tarr

Yelp
the nice man making our sandwiches was super friendly but the lady ringing me up wasn't. she had a little bit of attitude. i understand everyone has their days. food was pretty good but like most airport food, it's pretty expensive. it was $5 for a black coffee and then $9 for the sandwich. in a pinch, i was satisfied. would come again.

Yelp
Firstly, my tuna sandwich/croissant tasted like sh*t! ZERO star for RUDE service. I stood in line and was cut off by an employee stocking the chips and put all the empty boxes scattering all over. The stocking lady was yapping with other employees and didn't even clear the boxes (big liability) for customers or telling customers to go around the boxes. The customer before me was pissed because the employees were chatting and cracking with laughing. When it was my turn at the cashier, the male cashier continued to laughing and ignored (not looking at me) and kept asking to repeat my order. "You want tuna?" "Yes." "What sandwich do you want?" He turned and cracking up like they were making fun of customers. Ambience - fast food. CRAPPY service.

Yelp
This is in the Atlanta airport at A concourse by the stairs. It's convenient. I had the Protein Breakfast wrap. Turkey, egg white, feta, spinach and tomato in a wrap. Tasted very good - except way too salty. My SO had the Sweet Start croissant. Good but also too salty. Price was high, it's an airport. Service was fairly fast for us.

Yelp
Allergic to cheese, of course I didn't open my sandwich until I got on the airplane. Full of...cheese! The two people working the front of the place did also seemed bothered that there was a customer there.
google avatar

Yelp
Had the pastrami Rueben. Was there any cheese? A couple of thin slices of pastrami. A wisp of sauerkraut. Soggy bread. Good flavor. No substance. For $16. Now I might have to eat again. Boars head? Not impressed. Do better.

Yelp
Premade sandwiches that they throw in the toaster. He heated up my Reuben and took it out of the toaster oven and left it there on the counter while it cooled off for five minutes as he made the cold wrap for the lady behind me who got her food first. Pay attention, go to work sober, and stop chatting with your coworkers.

Yelp
Slow as molasses. It's like they don't know we are at an airport and people are headed somewhere else. $15-$18 for a sandwich..... that's insane. It's one of the few "healthy" options -- but not sure I would return in the future

Yelp
What a treat to eat here during a layover! The sausage breakfast sandwich was really delicious. They were quick to get food out. Very reasonably priced for the portion and being in an airport.

Yelp
I had a layover in Atlanta with some time to kill so I decided to grab a sandwich before boarding my next flight. Everyone who eats sandwiches or knows anything about deli meat knows that boars head is top tier. I was super excited to be having a sandwich with boars head lunchmeat. My sandwich order is pretty basic. I always get the same thing, honey turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, and extra mayo. This time around I went with sliced wheat bread. The sandwich was satisfactory. This café is super busy so the ordering process can seem a bit confusing. You start with one person taking your order then you move down to watch them make your order and then another person cashes you out. You definitely need to be paying attention or you could accidentally get someone else's sandwich or miss ingredient being added to your sandwich. The staff were nice but they seem a little bit disorganized. It wasn't a bad experience but I don't recommend if you're in a rush.

Yelp
Wish I could give ZERO stars! The owner has strategically hidden all business contact information from the internet and even corporate has no way of contacting them. Stopped by today for a sandwich and a slice of cake. The sandwich was wet and sloppy when I asked for very light mayo. Apparently she put oil on the sandwich. My slice of cake was stale and thrown into one of those cheap plastic bags from the gas stations in the hood. It is my mission to find the owner and share my grievances. I'm sure he doesn't read reviews as the same issues are repeated over and over!!!

Julie R.

Yelp
I thought pretty expensive for A PIECE of cake, $8.50. Even if you are in an airport. Pretty dry. I got a chocolate piece and wasn't even that chocolatey. Very Disappointed!! We fly often through Atlanta , and always wanted to try Piece of Cake and now I know. Won't get another!

Bradley S.

Yelp
I'm a longtime fan of Boar's Head products, so I was excited to try this café. Unfortunately, this location was a huge disappointment. I paid $22 for one seasonal selection sandwich -- and it absolutely was not worth the price or the 17-minute wait. After a long flight, all I wanted was a simple, hot meal. I placed my order, paid, and waited... and waited. Eventually, I had to ask about my order, only to find out they completely forgot to make it. No apology, no sense of urgency -- just handed me the sandwich when it was finally made. Save your money and your time. Eat somewhere else. Boar's Head is a brand I trust, but this location does not live up to the name.

Yelp
Grabbed 2 Greek chicken salads & 2 bottles of water for our flight - $35. The salad was almost entirely lettuce with just a few pieces of cubed chicken. No dressing. And the water bottles weren't even cold. Ended up eating the chicken cubes and then throwing away the rest. Won't be back.

J D.

Yelp
Beyond rude. Gay making sandwichs sweating over food. Wait 10 minutes to be told they can't make my sandwich. Wait another 10min to be told "hear." No thank you no smile no apologies. Overpriced food. No cash. Cashless BS. Will go hungry before I go back. ATL is the rudest airport in the country. Bad look for Delta.
google avatar

Peter A.

Yelp
So, let me start by saying that I've had a long day, filled with delays and a rebooked flight that put my total time dealing with airports at nearly 12 hours, so I'm a little cranky writing this. However, that has no influence on this review. First, they grabbed a sandwich that looked like it was in fight, just to replace the bread, so that stuff was sitting there in that case on that other bread for who knows how long. Then they took those guys, slapped it on another piece of bread, threw it in the "toaster", then apparently PUNCHED the sandwich before wrapping and handing it to me. You can see the sandwich and how it looks just as bad as the original in the display. The meat was half cold, and the lady who took my money didn't even fill up the overpriced soda. So, be aware. It may not be a total bust all the time, but it was this once, which means it probably will be again.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
For an airport experience, the food is very reasonable. Meaning, it actually tastes good and is probably one of the better finds while on the road. HOWEVER, service is slow and not very friendly. If you add a hot selection on top of this fact that rather comfortable layover you thought you needed to burn through is going to end up being a meal on the plane from here. Not the worst outcome but not great either.

Yelp
Gate A -- in the center of both sides of A gates, conveniently located. The line moves fast and they prepare in front of you. The hot fresh sandwiches looked super good. There were tons of sandwich's and yogurt, salad boxes grab and go. Boars deli serves one of the top quality meat. The bread, wraps and croissants all looked fresh and good quality. I ordered a fresh croissant for the coffee and then I looked for vegetarian choices for a sandwich - there wasn't anything in breakfast ones but they serve everything off menu at any time of the day. There were two options on the menu - Caprese and Roasted Veggie and hummus one. I opted for the latter one. Whole wheat wrap with fresh crumbled feta cheese, splash of vinaigrette, spinach, red pepper, hummus and onions. It was amazing with a sweet ting ! Just to be cautious, best to eat it fresh vs saving for later as vinaigrette will seep out of wrap and will make it soggy.

Yelp
Took over 20 minutes to handle the three sandwiches in front of me. The staff was so apathetic they couldn't even raise their voice loud enough for you to hear them when they greeted me or asked me what I wanted to order. The cashier was leaning against the counter with her hand on her face looking half asleep and annoyed by her job. She charged me and said have a nice day before they had even handed me my sandwich. I said "um.... what about my sandwich?" She said" oh they'll give it to you..." Do yourself a favor and skip this stop. On top of all that sandwich was plain and poorly assembled.

Eugene L.

Yelp
I was there at 9:58pm. I was informed by the staff the ovens are off and will not be able to toast the sandwich, I was ok with that and proceeded to order a pre assembled sandwich out of the cold case. As I was paying an employee (Alahna S) proceed to put a sandwich, I assume it's a sandwich for herself into the turbo chef oven but did not hit start. I asked the person helping me if it is still not possible to toast the sandwich because I just saw an employee put a sandwich into the turbo chef oven, and they were obviously not turned off as I was informed. At that point Alahna got very aggressive, talked over the person who was helping me saying " the ovens are off, just go, the ovens are off, you don't even know anything, why are you arguing with me, you don't even know". I do know the oven that she is referring to is the turbo chef style oven which is a combination of a microwave and a toaster oven which will not start until a preset time is input, same operation as a microwave. The touch screens on the front of the ovens are on which indicate the turbo chef ovens are still on, despite the employee Alahna keeps yelling at me the ovens are not on. I felt I was assaulted by this employee as non of the other employees did anything to help. Overall not a good experience and do not recommend its establishment.

Yelp
I've ordered the chicken BLT hot sandwich. They're in such a hurry that they miss a lot of points. They missed to cut the sandwich in 1/2 and toast the bread. There were too many hands on one sandwich for coming out this way. They have a lot to work on.

Yelp
The service was horrible. They delayed their taking my order and helped the couple behind me then out of sequence moved them ahead and I mentioned I needed to catch a plane nicely. They put my sandwich down and did not prepare it.

Rinell C.

Yelp
Terrible service! It's outrageous to pay airport price for a Chicken BLT sandwich. The sandwich is literally on a menu board over the employee's and they kept asking ingredient questions. I first received it cold and the attendant just tossed it aside and said he would make a new one. The second one was barely warm and it has no tomato, no lettuce nothing... dry as hell. I hate that because one has a flight to catch and probably won't return, they don't care. I however work at this airport and will be returning to demand my refund. Don't waste your layover time here. Skip this place altogether.

David U.

Yelp
There is no POS system to take your order to make sure it is made. The girl who took my order obviously forgot it as 6 people behind me in line got their sandwiches before me. I had to tell the cashier twice that mine was missed. They finally made mine. I was late getting to my flight because of this delay. The sandwiches were good.
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
The service was not great (even for an airport). And the grilled cheese I ordered ended up being actually just soggy bread with partially melted cheese.

Yelp
The Boars Head Cafe is in the Atlanta Airport, concourse unknown, but in the American Air terminal. We arrived for a short layover just after 8:30 AM along with what seem like 50 other airplanes. Lines were long EVERYWHERE but the Boars Head had, to us, the best looking menu/food. Line moved quickly as they had five ladies taking orders and making the bkfst sandwiches, three ladies on the register, and four ladies making the coffee orders. Yes; all were ladies with no men in sight. Bkfst sandwiches were DELISH!
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Long lines for average sandwiches. Not worth waiting when we board in a half hour. Lines were not moving quickly either. Skipped ordering here.
google avatar

Philip B.

Yelp
My order was made incorrectly, I had to catch flight and couldn't wait for a remake, I asked for refund, but manager processed refund that didn't total the amount I paid. I asked for a full and not partial refund. She offered an additional partial refund that still didn't total the original amount I paid. I had to catch flight and didn't have time to argue further. Frustrating.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Very disappointed because i'd asked for Russian dressing on my Reuben, but they made with mustard, which i can't eat. The sandwich also was still cold on the inside and cheese was barely melted. It made the whole sandwich just soggy since it wasn't toasted enough.
google avatar

Victor H.

Yelp
Came here for black brewed coffee. It was alright, the coffee tasted just like any other coffee places
google avatar

Brielle P.

Yelp
Ugh really wanted a yummy sandwich for lunch for boars head cafe fell short. I asked to have the bread toasted and the lady who was helping me acted like I was so wrong for asking for this. She sloped mustard and Mayo on and assembled my sandwich. $20+ for a create your own sandwich. It was okay but nothing special.

Mary Jane K.

Yelp
Picked up a turkey and cheese sandwich on wheat bread sandwich for the plane. Once I got on the plane I examined the sandwich closer and it had expiration date on 7/23 I had purchased it right outside my gate on 7/24. Threw the sandwich away along with the $16 it cost me!!!!!

Bonnie E.

Yelp
Thanks for bringing back the full container of the Cransational Chicken Salad. This is my go to food when passing through the Atlanta airport. Also thanks to Briana M for being so friendly. Hard to come by that these days!
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
I have yet to find many spots in an airport worth 4 or 5 stars. This was not one of those spots. The food was ok and service was quick. And you'll need to wait for a table as this eating area is packed. But for a $15 sandwich I was hoping for more than ok. I'd eat here again next time I connect through. But, I'll have to try the other spots before I do.
google avatar

Jill K.

Yelp
The service was awful! Only one of the 6 people behind the counter had any idea what was going on. One guy walked off in the middle of 3 sandwiches!

Scott N.

Yelp
I'm giving my review one star because zero stars is not an option. I grabbed a Boar's Head turkey sandwich at the Atlanta airport as I rushed to make a connecting flight, and didn't open it until I was on the plane. I can't eat dairy, and when I went to remove the cheese slices, they were literally fused to the turkey and could not be separated, so right off the bat half the meat was inedible. Somehow the bread managed to be both soggy AND as crumbly, and in the process of trying to remove the cheese, the bread started disintegrating, leaving me covered in and sitting amongst the crumbs for the next six hours. I took one bite and could not manage a second. All I'd had to eat for the previous 12 hours was a bag of pretzels, and going hungry was, without hesitation, the preferable option to eating that sandwich. Including the 15% "tip" that the cashier added to my bill, I basically threw $17.38 straight into the garbage. I've never left a review like this before and I would prefer to complain directly to the vendor but there is no phone number or contact info on the receipt so I don't have any other recourse.

Treasa P.

Yelp
Cake was very dry. this is my 2nd time having a very dry cake.. I will never come back again.

Yelp
Had a seriously excellent turkey wrap here for lunch today while transiting through. The line wasn't especially long but it did take about 10-15 minutes to get up to the counter with about 8 people in front of me. Totally worth it though because the sweet fella who made my wrap hooked me up with extra spinach and tomato upon request and cut me a huge chunk of brie. The wrap was fantastic and, at $10, felt more worth it than some of the nasty fried foods around in this food court at Terminal A. Highly recommend if you are coming through - that you stop here for a fresh-made sandwich, salad or wrap. It's going to be my new hot spot here when I'm coming through and hangry!

Anthony S.

Yelp
Never seen a Boars Head cafe. first time and let me say boars head did not disappoint!!! the bold turkey club heated WAS INSANE! if you are flying into ATL definitely worth stopping to grab a bite to eat!! Boars Head a name you can trust!

Yelp
This place had the most appealing menu to us while waiting for our flight in A terminal. The line was long but figured with sandwiches it would go quickly. Nope! They had 5 women behind that counter and yet it still took 10-15 minutes for each sandwich to be made. These are crazy sandwiches either. Pretty basic. We finally got to the counter and the women (all 5 of them) were pretty rude. They asked multiple times what sandwiches we ordered, having to keep repeating ourselves. Then they are out of the bread, out of the cheese, out of the jam, etc. They just kept going down the list of substitutions or missing items. By the time you get your actual sandwich, it isn't the same sandwich on their menu. The cashier was literally leaning against the counter with her eye closed most of the time, didn't say a word, barely looked at you. They all clearly hate their job and honestly suck at it, so they should find new ones. This is probably the worst airport food experience I have ever had at any airport. I would expect much more from Atlanta being as busy as it is. I do love Boar's Head meats so much and the sandwich I ordered sounded really good. We open our sandwiches up after all of that, (which took almost an hour) and my husbands was cut like a quarter and then 3 quarters. They obviously don't care to cut a sandwich correctly. Mine had all of the chipotle spread on one side and none on the other. The lettuce, tomato and avocado were all on the other side. Half was hanging out when I first unwrapped it. It was just so sad. And that was over $30 for just the two half ass sandwiches. I hope Boar's Head pays attention to this and corrects it. Put a little bad taste in my mouth about Boar's Head sadly.
google avatar

Heidi H.

Yelp
The line seemed long, however moved quickly. Staff was friendly. Made it easy to grab a freshly made sandwich between flights
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
I only had a few minutes between flights while traveling through the Atlanta Airport so I stopped by Boar's Head to grab a to-go meal. Lashund's service was exceptional and so was the food but I can't help but to feel for these employees who must stand in place all day. After spending 24 years in the military and almost 10 years as an HR professional, I find it imperative that organizations take care of their people. Please be kind a provide the hard working people a chair and I'm certain they will appreciate that and pass the kindness on to your customers.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Came her because there was no line and quick to access (on the corner of hallways). Food was basic and expensive. Had the Turkey pesto sandwich. ~$14. Soup of day was chicken noodle soup. TWO noodles present in cup. $8. Off brand water bottle $4. Should be unsurprised about the prices but was surprised there was nearly only broth in an $8 soup.

Yelp
I was In a hurry and didn't have time for them to make a sandwich so I grabbed a salad and kept going. I must say it was incredible & had just the right amount of everything to satisfy

Joya W.

Yelp
This cannot be Atlanta's Piece of Cake. I should have known because their sticker with the logo was not on the 3 pieces we bought. If we lived in Atlanta then I would have returned the very dry /falling apart cake .. terrible and a waste of $25.56 . Shame on you !!! Then shame on me for not paying attention !!

Calandra I.

Yelp
I could have been seriously sick. I ordered a sandwich without tomatoes and made sure to emphasize it on the order. At the end when the order came the lady that took my order mentioned to the guy fixing the sandwich that I ordered it without tomatoes. I saw him literally take the tomatoes off my sandwich and started wrapping it up. I immediately informed him that I'm allergic to tomatoes and can't even have the tomato juice/seeds. He then started making another sandwich --- then proceeded to auction off the sandwich to other patrons who came up to sell it so that they didn't have to put it in the trash.

Alexanderia G.

Yelp
the food and service was terrible. I ordered a turkey sandwich with cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. After telling them 3 different times what I wanted on my sandwich I arrived to my gate with no mayonnaise and no cheese. i had to wait 7 min for one cashier to come and ring me up while 3 other employees stood by talking and said they couldn't run the cash register. To say I'm displeased is an understatement.

James F.

Yelp
"How do you F up a sandwich?" Is what my friend said when I told them that I ate the worst Italian sub of my entire life this evening. Out of Italian rolls, they didn't bother to ask what kind of bread we preferred. Instead I was handed a sandwich dripping with oil and vinegar to the point the bag started to rip as I walked to my gate. I opened the sandwich and the rye (weird choice when I saw white and wheat options available) bread had actually broken off the crust and fell to the floor due to the 4 ounces of Italian dressing they put onto each slice of bread, oversaturating it to the point where it wouldn't stay intact . I hope the grease splotches come out of my pants due to all of the splashing of oil and vinegar. I never thought I'd say this but I'd rather eat the 3 day old mystery veggie wrap sitting in the back corner of a kiosk refrigerator. I hope this restaurant closes so that a half decent place can replace it

Stormie O.

Yelp
I would love to leave a 5-star review because my BLTA combo was delicious, and it was a very quick stop in the busy Atlanta airport. However, the customer service from the 3 young folks working was sad. No greetings, no niceties, no politeness. And worse than that, actual snarkiness and just blatant ignoring of questions.

Harold G.

Yelp
The service was less than sub par. I ordered a simple turkey sandwich. You would have thought I ordered a four course meal. The man didn't understand anything I was saying. I was simply asking for a croissant. Lo and behold they didn't serve sandwiches on those anymore. I had to ask another worker, he then made my sandwich and forgot the mayo and mustard. So I asked for packs. The lady dumped the packs in my bag as if I were annoying her. No mustard tho, so I went to get the mustard and every single packet was sticky and gross. Oh and I had to ask for different lettuce. The lettuce he was about to put on my sandwich was disgusting, and brown... horrible experience for a $15 sandwich. Smh. Never eating here again!!!!!
