Fantastic location for dinner with friends! Was there for a graduation dinner and enjoyed every moment! The food was incredible, beautiful ambience and excellent service. We enjoyed the beautiful sunset over the water as we dined. If you are in the area, definitely try this exquisite location.

Came here on my birthday last month and this place is awesome. They care and the food is very good. Had the focaccia bread with the 3 dips(all very good) and the cod fish(very good). Desert was very good as well, definitely will be coming back.

Absolutely loved my time here! Not only was the food perfectly prepared, the moment I walked in the lovely woman at the front was incredibly welcoming. I wish I had gotten her name. I'm thinking she was a front of the house manager. So personable. She then had a young lady take us to our table (outside naturally on a beautiful evening) Our server was very prompt with greeting us. As the evening moved along, she continued to check in on us. Highly recommend clam chowder & Hall of fame chowder. (They were a hit at the table) The swordfish pastrami reuben was flavorful & made to perfection. And of course a must is the fish and chips! (I'm craving it now) Finished with death by chocolate brownie skillet and banana foster cheesecake. An extra note to the lovely woman up front. It had gotten chilly and it was very breezy so some of the heaters on the patio were going out, being crowded inside, there was no option to go inside so she actually came over with cozy fleece throws for us! Above & beyond to make our time here pleasant. I have to say I rarely get a chance to say everything was perfect for us, but dining at the Boat House Waterfront was just that!

We had a great experience at Boat House. Everyone in our group loved their food, and you can’t beat their view of the water! The side salad with the sandwich was amazing- I would come back just for that! The pictured meals are the grilled chicken sandwich and the cod sandwich, both were amazing.

If you spent the week working a ton of hours and want to take your loved one out for a date this place is it! What a great view of the bay. You walk down to the water and enjoy the view. The seafood was great. The clam chowder was creamy and full of goodness. The seafood scampi was full of flavor. You can't go wrong with the drinks here, they don't use cheap booze. Our waitress had a great personality and on top of her game

Always a good experience. Enjoyed sitting outside to enjoy the beautiful view and day. Attentive and nice server. Food was amazing.

Google
Absolutely delicious restaurant! My husband and I atopped for lunch, I had the lobster roll, it was the bwst lobster roll I've ever had. My husband got the chicken tacos which were a special, he said they were delicious. Drink were amazing, our waiter was so friendly and the drinks were on point! We decided to get some chowder to go...the hall of fame chowder was so good, perfect him of spice balanced with cornbread croutons. YUM! this place is a must go!!

I was here weeks ago, just an off day. I've been coming here for years. The manager "instantly" responded to my feedback, invited me back, everything taken care of and the food and service was a TEN, like it's always been. Beautiful setting, classy, clean, fantastic server (Courtney) and the food was great! Please visit if you haven't. They also have a section outside for events which faces the water. Can't wait to go back. Thank you!

Yelp
Not our first time here but my first review for it. We had an impromptu lunch which was very, very good. Initially the host tried to seat us at the bar but we said no, and then we were offered a lovely booth. We didn't have a reservation so I understand but there were lots of tables available. Anyway our waitress was superb... friendly, efficient, quick to take care of us. I had clam chowder and the wedge salad, both were delicious. My husband had the stuffies special and the haddock sandwich. He said both were excellent particularly the sandwich. He doesn't like stuffies with too much bread and these did not! For dessert we had the lemon mascarpone cake with a lemon sorbet which was perfect for the hot day that it was. I finished off with a delicious espresso served with rock candy for sugar. All around a really wonderful Meal. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Went for my friend's 84th birthday, she had been longing to go. She had the simple scallops and enjoyed them. I had the Soul Meunière. Sadly it was more than disappointing! 2 tiny pieces of soul, which were over cooked, on top of a pitiful few spinach leaves mixed in with lemon caper gremolata, and beurre blanc. The capers were tasteless and the beurre blanc was almost non existent. Had it not been my friend's birthday, I would have sent the meal back, but I didn't want to spoil her celebration. I will say they did get the desserts right! The Lemon Mascarpone, crème brine and cheesecake were delicious and delightful. Very disappointing!

Yelp
Returned here for a special occasion dinner. I was very disappointed. Our server was terrible, she left us alone and untended to for long periods of time. I was served the wrong soup (ordered chowder and got something else) and the server never came back to check on us and I was unable to ask for the correct item. Food was mediocre. Ambiance is mixed as the views are spectacular but the noise level is simply unpleasant. Will not be back.

Yelp
Our party of six arrived at noon and were shown to a wonderful round table in the corner surrounded by windows looking out on a stunning water view. Our server, and everyone who assisted her, was so attentive - we were never without water in our glasses or lemon wedges or extra tartar sauce. She was great! The food was also excellent in its presentation and taste. All three men had the fish and chips which they enjoyed. Two of the others had the haddock sandwich and fries while I ordered the grilled swordfish in lemon beurre sauce and two sides: Cesar salad and Brussels! Everything was excellent. What a lovely afternoon. When we left around two there wasn't an empty seat! On a Monday afternoon! It's popular and no secret as to why! Try it, you'll be glad you did!

Yelp
From the ambiance to the view to the food everything was great! Tried both chowders absolutely amazing. Both creamy and rosy in flavor. Loved my fish and chips. Fish was nowhere near greasy and the fish was lightly battered. The Cole slaw definitely had a different taste but was really good. The lobster roll, stuffed with giant chunks of lobster meat. Probably one of the better ones that we have had. Can't wait to come back in the summer and enjoy the outdoors as well. Thank you!

Yelp
Amazing food. The lobster roll was amazing. The views of the water were incredible. I appreciate the amount of lobster on the roll. The Cioppino was great with the white sauce

Yelp
Tough to find XMAS Eve dining even booking many weeks out. This was our spot for this year. We had the last slot for the night and the place was jammed. Of course - lots of free parking. In spite of the rush, service was very good except for the cocktails (overwhelmed bar?). We were seated in the "weatherized" outdoor patio so generally "comfortable." Cocktails were followed by a dozen oysters ($42). Decent but all were "Portsmouth" - salty and a bit small. Not the best we had lately. "Bread and butter board" ($5) is a good add. Entrees were seafood scampi, salmon, and crab and squid ink linguine (one of the daily specials and the star of the night). Add a glass of wine and holiday tip and damages were $300. A nice night but still searching for what we hope can be our regular XMAS Eve spot.

Yelp
The bread board was a delightful way to start our meal. The swordfish special was fresh and delicious, layered with flavors. The paella was wonderful too. The service was top notch, and the ambiance was so beautiful by the bay! Great wine and drink selection and the dessert OMG! We celebrated our anniversary and at least three of the staff wished us a happy anniversary. Nice touch! Newport Restaurant groups have some amazing restaurants. I've been to most and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Food was tasty, but they are not happy if you bring children there. My grandson is two and ranges from quiet to at times impatient. Received distain from server and too many looks from nearby table so we left quickly.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful spot. From the water views to the service to the food. Yummmmm The Caesar salad was perfect. Filet? Couldn't ask for better. Service was wonderful, attentive but not overbearing. Did I tell you about the smashed potatoes?

Yelp
The view will take you to a place that you only see in post cards. The bay view and decor makes the perfect evening for a romantic date, drinks at the bar with special friends and celebration of your BIRTHDAY. I myself had celebrated my birthday at this venue several times. Making this venue one of my go places in Rhode Island for a cuisine experience. Totally recommend for those with exquisite taste.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant with great views. Huge patio for outdoor dining. Service was excellent and so was the food! The Hot Crab Dip was amazing! I added a piece of grilled salmon to their wedge salad and it was fantastic! There are chairs sprinkled around the back lawn to sit and enjoy the views. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Great food, drinks and service, and great views of the waterfront. The cod fish sandwich was fantastic!

Yelp
The Boat House never disappoints. Today was a great experience from beginning to end. We were seated by a window overlooking the bay, which on this cold but sunny day was beautiful! Christen our server couldn't have been more helpful; she is knowledgeable, kind and professional. The drinks were excellent, as were the appetizers. My wife had the filet mignon; she hesitates to order steak when we go out but this was perfect. I had the swordfish and it was great also. For location, ambience, quality of food and service, I highly recommend!

Yelp
Six of us dined here. It would have been even better earlier so that we could have enjoyed the view. A pleasant place designed around a long bar flanked by tables. Our server Kathleen was attentive and efficient. Only two of us were drinking this evening except for sparkling water and so we quickly got on to ordering food. Starting with calamari and a crab cake which we shared- both were delicious. Other choices followed: bolognese, grilled shrimp, two orders each of short ribs and swordfish- all of which were good but not exceptional. We were full and unable to have any dessert. The check came to around $270 and we took some food home. We are Rewards members but haven't been here for a while, although we frequently dine at their sister restaurants in Newport and Providence. This restaurant is worth a visit. Three and a half stars- not quite four.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance and service! Food is consistent. Not over the top memorable but very good. The atmosphere and view is the real draw.

Yelp
Very good, Food, service, drinks , all were excellent. Screw the minimum 85 characters for a good review

Yelp
We happened upon this place by accident. We were in the area and looked up 'water front dining' and this came up. But we were very glad we went. This place is really cool. It is on the water in Portsmouth, with amazing views. The windows were all open, so though we sat inside it was breezy and open. We sat at the bar because that was the only seat we could get - and even for that we had to wait 45 mins. So make your reservations in advance! However, while we waited, we could have a drink and sit outside in Adirondack chairs (though they desperately needed umbrellas, because it was smoking hot on that gravel walkway). There was no traffic or through-streets, so very calm. We got drinks and the 'butter board' and clam chowder. All were very tasty. We have added this place to our 'repeat' list.

Barbara K.

Yelp
Beautiful setting on the water, but food was mediocre. I had steamed mussels, and while the mussels were plump, the broth had no taste whatsoever-- no seasoning, no wine taste or aroma, no garlic or fresh herbs, perhaps three slivers of shallots in the whole presentation. Very crowded with lots of kids on a Sunday, but that's to be expected. I won't go back soon.

Yelp
Updating my review to say this is always a consistent and lovely experience at this waterside restaurant. The Nashville cauliflower was very good and the "Hall of Fame" chowder was their personal twist on NE chowder! Staff is always incredibly knowledgeable and professional. The ambiance is lovely, especially if you can get a side at the window to look out over the water. As mentioned, they book up quickly so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. I wish I could just walk in sometimes, though!

Brandon V.

Yelp
Beautiful setting and vibe at the Boat House. The food was very good all around. The burger was one of the best I've had. We won't hesitate to stop here if we're nearby on a future trip.

Yelp
Everything is great here, from the cleanliness to the delicious food. The prices are reasonable and the service is great, Never have been disappointed and the bone in wings are so crispy and to die for !!

Yelp
Food was good although, I did just have a salad. Dessert was Amazing!! Service was wonderful, adored our waitperson as she was very helpful. Ambiance spectacular as usual. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
The first time I went here was for a bridal shower on a rainy day. Often large events like this are not the best showings for restaurants but I was very impressed with the Boat House. The bartender was friendly and quick. We sampled quite a few different cocktails and they all were well made. The event was on an outdoor patio with a roof, convenient for the rainy day. Even with the rain, was still a lovely spot to sit outside and admire the views. There was a brief moment when the sun came out and another couple actually got engaged down by the water! The head of the waitstaff very enthusiastically brought the couple complementary glasses of champagne! If anyone is looking to get engaged, this is a good spot! The food was great especially for a buffet. It was a brunch selection including salad, grilled chicken and salmon, frittatas, cinnamon bun French toast. It all was excellent, especially the salmon and the French toast! I look forward to coming back here for a regular meal and having just as lovely as a time!

Yelp
Delicious and water front vibes. You pay for what you get. A little extra but worth it in the upgrades in menu and preparation. Atmosphere is busy and open inside and waterfront sunsets outside

Yelp
I live in Middletown, and I never regret the decision to drive up to Boat House. My wife and I still discuss our last visit, where I resolved to order her dish next time and she resolved to order mine. This restaurant has beautiful views and a nice, modern feel. The food is consistently excellent, and I found the staff to be particularly attentive and friendly. Honestly, this ranks among my favorite restaurant in the whole state. Boat House is terrific!

Yelp
I have been coming to this location long before Newport Restaurant Group acquired it and have had a love and regretfully, hate relationship with this restaurant. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes not. Sometimes the service is fantastic and sometimes not. Tonight, for the first time in my experience, they have met at an intersection of wonderful! Our waitress, Svetlana was exceptional. Being Christmas Eve, I had prepared to tamper my expectations because as with most holiday dining, it's a lot to manage the parties varying in size and expectation along with the intensity placed on the kitchen and it's staff. She was personable, friendly and attentive the entire service. In addition, the food was exceptional! We had started with the creamy chowder and 6 oysters and 4 shrimp cocktail, then the tuna tartare and the crab dip. There was a slightly longer wait for the lobsters ( because we waited to place the entree orders until we were half way done with our second course and not because of our waitress). Still, the restaurant manager came over to apologize for the slightly longer wait, which was NOT their fault. Our 2 lb and 1.25 lb baked stuffed lobsters came out to perfection! We also managed to indulge in the bananas fosters cheesecake. A delightful surprise of an evening and now, we want more! The staff , front and back of house are to be commended as well as the management team, for what felt like a well prepared team ready to serve the masses!

Yelp
Delicious food great service and beautiful restaurant made this the all in one package. A great spot for a special occasion or if you're just in the mood for a great night out.

Yelp
Just perfect really. As a solo diner I love nothing more than to be treated no differently than a party of two or more. The hostess couldn't have been happier to seat me at a table outside, so we were off to an amazing start. The setting and view are spectacular, so definitely come on a gorgeous day to take full advantage. The service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable; the perfect combination! Thanks Ally! I started with three oysters and ordered the tuna burger special. Oysters were tasty, you'll love the mignonette if you're a vinegar fan. The tuna burger was in a word outstanding. They should seriously consider making it a staple. The combination of flavors was out of this world, all perfectly balanced. To know it was all house-made made it even better. Truly one of the best things I've eaten in a bit. For a first time visit they really knocked it out of the park. I can't wait to return!

Mary M.

Yelp
My expectation for the Newport Restaurant Group restaurants is high and Boat House didn't meet them on a recent visit. Service was off and my scallops were served lukewarm. The server took them back and promised a newly prepared dinner and then served the exact same lukewarm plate. So so disappointed.
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
Rivals any Boston restaurant I've been to. Locals need no introduction. A must stop if in the area. A special thank you to Cara and Kristen for such a great time.

Michael P.

Yelp
Service was top notch. View was gorgeous. Had the fish and chips, farmer salad, and my favorite was the hot crab dip and house chips. The only downside was they did not have a gluten-free menu but were more than accommodating and answering questions about what could be prepared gluten-free.

Yelp
Always a GREAT experience dining at the Boat House! Last night was no exception. Our server Holly was wonderful: attentive, knowledgeable, funny, engaging. She made a few suggestions that we right on. My meal began with a side-sized Caesar salad. Finished it and almost licked the bowl. We order the Bread Board for the table. Bread was nicely toasted, and the butter spread was sweet, spicy, yummy. For my main, I ordered the char grilled swordfish, which arrived atop roasted cauliflower puttanesca, with preserved lemon herb gremolata. OMG! GOOD!
google avatar

Jude P.

Yelp
Mussels appetizer? order extra toast when you place order....you'll want it to soak up all the delicious broth! Hall of Fame Chowder? Indeed! Babe Ruth meets Ted Williams Hall of Fame level. Scallop entree was exceptional. Filet Mignon was exquisite. Service is impeccable. Can't say enough great things about Boat House. It deserves every accolade it receives!!

David L.

Yelp
The usual very good food was a disappointment this time. Undercooked rice in the piaya was uneatable and was sent back. A poor man's stuffed lobster had no known lobster in it. It was like a pile of ritz crackers on an old lobster shell. On the bright side the calamari was excellent. Huge miss from a restruant we look forward to go to. I'll go back but only stick to basics

Anthony G.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service!!!!! Great, Clam Chowder, crab cakes and custom Mac N cheese. They didn't bat an eye altering from the menu.

Jane H.

Yelp
We dined there today and we do restaurant field trips with our friends every few weeks. This restaurant was excellent! Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious! It actually took the #1 spot that we frequent in Bourne. I can't wait to go back!!! Service was top notch as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was excellent, the filet was top tier delicious. Honestly can't wait to go back. Chowder was really good as well - straight forward . I ordered the house cab not sure on the brand but was smooth. Salmon was 8/10 . 100% will be going back. Very clean atmosphere, nice bar. Friendly staff . Make a reservation if you don't want to wait

Yelp
Tasty. Friendly. Beautiful. This will be one of my gushing reviews. I loved it at the Boat House and I will find reasons to travel to Rhode Island just so I can go to the Boat House again! We arrived at 8:30, just in times to see most of Rhode Island's fireworks displays... and the service was wonderful. Yes second to last sitting and I never felt rushed. Our server was wonderful and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our meal, which was awesome. The view is top notch looking out over the water... boats, fireworks and... water. The food was all perfectly cooked and seasoned perfectly. This is not a seafood restaurant that is by the ocean so we don't have to try. This is a top notch culinary experience. There is a well priced wine list with many of wines to pair with your seafood The raw bar was great, as fresh as it possibly could be. The scallop ceviche was perfect (I don't think it needed the tostadas, but it was nice to have a little crunch). Our main dish was a 2 pound lobster, steamed perfectly. Our waitress mentioned that they just got some newfangled steaming table which brought out the sweetness of the lobster. I was too full for dessert, but my dinner companion gave me a taste of the sorbet... so good. She let me know that dessert was just as good as the rest of the meal. I would go here for special occasions, or just to be out with friends. We will definitely come back again and again.

Paul P.

Yelp
Fish and chips and fish sandwich were very good. Clam chowda wqs disappointing unless you like potatoes. I found very little if any clams. Service was Ok. Average at best Ambiance was very good. Hard to beat the view.

Yelp
A picture perfect late May afternoon on Mt Hope Bay yes 5 stars add location to dining destination equals 5 stars again! We sat window side as requested on our reservation greeted warmly by the sun and staff to celebrate 20 legal years of marriage! Windows open to the near summer bay cooled with a raspberry cosmo accented with a semicircle of fresh orange rind sweet and not overly potent and for me the coolest of cool bud light! Breadboard appetizer with a palette of buttery color to spread Scallop and shrimp scampi so fresh and tasty with housemade linguini flecks of red pepper flakes added just the right amount of kick to this generous portion And me filet mignon so visually appealing I tasted before I snapped a pic coupled with buttery mashed potatoes my Irish granma would have loved to call her own We were surprised when our waitress Kristen K delivered the most delicious slice of passion fruit cheesecake topped with petite coconut crumbles and paired with Real fresh whipped cream Seems I forgot I mention our anniversary when I made the reservation The Boathouse never disappoints and should be a MUST visit for any occasion and just because you deserve it!

Yelp
I mainly chose Boat House because a Yelper mentioned that the water views are unparalleled. That reviewer was spot on. I took my friends from out of state here and we had a great time walking around before checking in. It sorta felt like we were at a resort. The food was okay. I like how slightly crisp my well-done grilled salmon was. The veggies were too bland for my taste, but my friend with the same order liked and finished it. My friend's 13 yo old son enjoyed his Fried Calamari and Fish N Chips, as well. My daughter ordered the crab cake appetizer, but didn't finish it. The total came out to about $160, including 2 drinks and tip. I wouldn't come back for the food, but I would definitely return for the experience. It was very easy to make reservations on Google via OpenTable. It was easy to find a parking space in their private lot.

Yelp
A LOVELY waterside restaurant - pro tip come during sunset (the views are great)! Portions are huge here. Would recommend the seafood scampi or anything off their simply grilled. Service was also prompt. One of the girls in our group got chilly and the waiter found her a blanket and let her keep it!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Great view of the sunset , incredibly attentive service. Food was great, small portions but good!
google avatar

Yelp
2023 Newport restaurant at the Boat House, once again provided a fantastic dining experience.
google avatar

Barbara B.

Yelp
A fun experience with good friends to celebrate a special birthday . Timothy was attentive but not overly and assured we had a great meal . The two highlights were the special pasta of the day. We would love to make it at home .. not sure what kind of pasta it was. delicious tomato cream sauce with seared scallops and shrimp.. the other highlight was the salad with zucchini, feta and tomato. The only disappointment was the bread. Grilling it was a mistake. We will happily return next time we come to visit Newport!
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
We waited for a picturesque sort of day to visit the Boat House for an early dinner. My request for a high top with a view was granted after they greeted me by name upon checking in. The attention to detail by their staff was impeccable - it was a special occasion and let's just say they made us feel very special indeed. The view is tremendous but the food and the service is above and beyond. Highly recommend! With costs of eating out at an all-time high, I cook most of my meals at home. This was reasonably priced and exactly how a dining experience should be.

Yelp
three for lunc.h. Saturday Suggest make a reservation. after noon, beautiful breeze on the deck, celebrating my 80 birthday, thought i died and r went to heaven. Timmothy was our server and was awesome, Seafood scampi was perfect, mushroom entrey and sautéed scollops were cooked to perfection. I'll be back

Yelp
We came in for a business lunch. Seated very quickly, and our waiter was very good. Food was delicious, and the views were outstanding even in the winter. They also had many images of the buildings history, and I found that interesting. I would definitely like to return.
