Riverwalk staple with wood‑fire cooking and a raw bar—oysters, Gulf seafood, and crowd‑pleasing plates. A frequent pick in Southern Living and local roundups, it’s as much about the Tennessee River setting as the seafood.

First time here after enjoying a walk on the nearby trail. It was a nice relief from the late July heat. Wait time for us (party of 8).was roughly around 15 minutes, which was phenomenal, considering it was a packed house. Our server was terrific and energetic. Very tentative and checked on our party to make sure everything was to our liking. The wait for our food wasn't horrible either. Maybe 15-20 minutes after we placed it with our server. Everything was extremely fresh and hot. Portions were very good and the prices reflected on the quality of the food. I would be glad to pay it again for the dishes we received and the service. Dessert was also exceptional. The portions for it were very generous. Overall, it was a phenomenal experience. I'm definitely going to make a stop at this place if im ever in town again.

I love the large patio overlooking the Tennessee River. Gorgeous views. While we waited for a table, we sat at the bar and had a few drinks. The bartenders were excellent. Very friendly and always checked on us. We had an amazing table outside and with the sun going down, the view was fabulous. I am allergic to seafood but they were able to accommodate to make sure my food was safe for me to eat. Everyone loved their dinner. It came out hot and delicious. We had the bread pudding and didn't want to stop eating it, it was outstanding. Definitely recommend if in the area to eat at.

Come here! Any wait is worth it. I would have gladly waited hours. The food is that good. I had the murder bay oysters and whole smoked trout. The Trout was cooked perfectly. The view outside is beautiful too. My kids loved their fried shrimp.

Google
What a great place! Appetizers were delish! Best onion rings I’ve had in a long time. Quesadillas were great and the feta garlic toast was different and yummy. My VooDoo chicken was great along with pretty darned good black beans and rice. Not crazy about the one side sauce but the voodoo sauce was spot on. Salmon was great, the Texas Dip was great , and the rotisserie chicken and broccoli was divine. All the servings were generous and the hot fudge sundae was okay(needed more fudge sauce) We will definitely go again and will try seafood. We had one person with a seafood allergy this time. Highly recommend!!!

Unfortunately I was too busy eating and forgot to take photos. Great view of the river. I’m not a big cocktail drinker and don’t usually drink Margarita’s. This place make the best. Food was fresh and fast. Service awesome. Best oysters I’ve had in a long time. They were a little small, but they were delicious. We also shared a appetizer which was the brisket nacho platter. It was a meal in itself. Excellent. I must say the chef there must cook with the fresh ingredients because everything tastes so good.

Google
Great place with some pretty amazing views of the river. Food was above par and our server did a better than average job of attending to us. The only complaint was they allow dogs inside the main dining room. I have two Goldens that are well behaved but I would never consider taking them into a restaurant. If you want to allow them in the outside dining area, that's fine but they should never be allowed in the main dining area.

Google
The food is always so good and fresh tasting. The wait can be long, but it’s worth it! Beautiful river views. We’re lucky to have to this place. Salmon smash burger is great! Trout almandine is great! The garlic, olive oil, feta dip is great! Fries are sooooo good! The rotisserie chicken meal with the cabbage side is so good.

Google
one of the best seafood restaurants with such unique flavors of different seafood & even a best chicken.. Lotta Lotta Chicken is a must try for that one person in the group who don't prefer seafood going to a seafood restaurant. Their oysters are so fresh and hands down combination with house made house raddish.. Trout almondine is another favourite dish here for those looking for buttery fish and easy to eat.. service is reasonably fast given the fresh prep & crowd , but might have to wait during peak lunch/ dinner time

Yelp
Stopped here for an early dinner on a Monday and were thrilled that we came here! We started with 1 dozen Chesapeake oysters, which were fabulous, followed by the pork quesadilla, catfish tacos with fried okra, and tuna poke bowl. Even though out choices were a bit random, the food was spot on! All choices were seasoned well, nothing was greasy, and everything tasted great! Our favorites were the catfish and poke, but everything was great! The view of the river is great, and the service was great as well. So glad we stopped in!

Yelp
Wife and I stopped by the BOAT-HOUSE for Sunday dinner 7/27/25 around 4 o'clock they said about fifteen minute wait, no problem especially after asking the hostess if I could get something to drink at the Bar she said sure no problem. The Bartender was quick and friendly, which makes the evening go smooth. We were seated quickly and the server (Linda) was excellent spot on, she knew the menu very well, I asked her what the Acapulco Shrimp Cocktail was and she explained it very well. We ordered the Onion Rings for an Appetizer which arrived quickly and was Hot and was very good just like Homemade. For the entree the wife ordered the Spit-Roasted Chicken Salad and I ordered the Grilled Shrimp half a dozen for $24.00 and a side order of fried okra. And we also order Cajun U-Peel Shrimp half a dozen $15.00 which was very good better than the grilled Shrimp IMO and bigger. Cajun U-Peel Shrimp Half Dozen for $15.00 a Dozen for $28.00 better deal for your money and fresher and bigger IMO. Nice ambience with good service‼

Yelp
Every time I visit Chattanooga, I always make it a point to have dinner at The Boathouse. With its location being along the TN River and excellent food, it's a great spot to enjoy very good cocktails and an excellent meal! This time my wife & I went on Saturday, 7/26 around 6:30PM and anticipated a wait which this time was around an hour. The wait was almost right exactly an hour as the hostess advised. Even when we have gone during the week, we have had some small wait times so plan that into your schedule if planning on going to the Beachhouse..... it's worth the wait! We were seated outside with a view of the river. There are cooling fans so even though it was warm it was comfortable. We started out with the calamari which came with fried green beans and an aioli for dipping. Very good! I had the Ahi Poke bowl which came with a very nice portion of tuna, rice, avocado, cilantro, jalapeño's & other fresh veggies. My wife had the crisp fish taco's which she advised were very good! Two tacos were provided with a good amount of fish in each taco and ample greens to have that fresh flavor. As a dessert beverage the signature Ole' Fashion made with Chattanooga's own distilled spirit made by Chattanooga Whiskey which was a great way to close out our meal. In closing this review, kudos to our server Justin who was attentive & helpful during our visit. Also, I would rate closer to 4.5 stars. Till next time.....

Yelp
The view is breathtaking. The food is good but it's not fantastic. The service was great! I feel like our favorite was the bbq shrimp with the bread. Everything else was okay!

Yelp
Dinner at the Boathouse was excellent. Started with 2 dozen oysters followed by grilled redfish, grilled salmon, fried catfish and fried chicken. A couple of us had grilled okra and it was over the top good. We were too full for dessert but thoroughly enjoyed dinner. This is our 2nd time here and it was as good as we remembered. Well worth stopping in.

Yelp
Our experience was somewhere between 4 and 5 stars. My lovely bride and I stopped in for an early dinner (6pm) on a Tuesday night in August. The place was already close to full. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the Tennessee River, and it was quite beautiful and relaxing. We were hungry, so we started with the guacamole, onion rings, and fried okra. The appetizers were excellent. We decided to try their margarita mocktail, and it was stellar. My bride wolfed down the peel-and-eat Cajun shrimp, and I did the same with the cornmeal-crusted fried catfish. Service by Kadence was top notch. Boathouse is highly recommended!

Yelp
We came on Wednesday with the catfish special. By itself, catfish was a little bland but once you add lemon juice and black pepper it is flavorful enough to enjoy. My partner had the Kentucky Bird, which was decent. Kind of tart. Preferred sweeter drinks but was able to finish it. I had the Hemingway which was a bit dry because of the ingredients but to be expected so fine. Waitress checked on us enough, so no complaints there. We like the view and plenty of parking.

Yelp
Sat at bar. Food and service were good. I would recommend this Restaurant

Yelp
The food is always spectacular, the service is top tier and there's always something special on the food and drink menus that they suggest that's always a delight. Both the indoor and outdoor seating options are spacious, clean, and each offer a phenomenal view of the river. This place is hands down MY FAVORITE restaurant in Chattanooga Tennessee, one of my top 5 places to eat in the south! Every part of the experience is the most fresh, flavorful, & fantastic you can experience in Tennessee on the river... I drive from Nashville ANYTIME I crave my faves from here.... It worth it for every moment and memories created here. Been coming since I was a child!

Yelp
This place could be much better with a brighter atmosphere and by avoiding peanut oil in their cooking. We had the chicken, which was over-salted and fried to a bland finish. I've also never seen someone serve canned beans over soggy rice - very unappealing. On the positive side, it's the only place where I've actually enjoyed baked oysters, so props for that. The drinks were weak, though. Overall, it's okay, but it could be great with a few key improvements.

Yelp
I went here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty loud and crowded. My girlfriend and I had to wait about 15 minutes which isn't too bad. I got the Niman Ranch Brisket Burger with fries. This is a flavorful smash burger, with Swiss cheese, jalapeño relish, red onion and mayonnaise. It is a good burger for a reasonable price. Our waiter was friendly and took our orders promptly. Orders were received in a reasonable time. This is a popular restaurant, tastefully decorated in a nautical theme. I recommend and would go again. Get there early if you're going on a weekend. It packs up pretty quickly.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Everything we ordered was outstanding. The restaurant is huge!!!! It was bustling but our waiter Craig was outstanding. He knew the menu and gave us his attention and insight on the menu. We will for sure visit again. Best fish dish I have ever had. Could have eaten the green beans by themselves. Very nice Margarita! Don't miss out visit today!

Yelp
Great location on the river and even the outdoors was warm as it's enclosed! We had delicious shrimp and oysters to start. Monday night is half priced oysters...only drawback to Monday is that they don't have any trout as that arrives Tuesday. But we survived and had ahi tuna. Amazing!!!! Dessert was a highlight too...such yummy key lime pie. Our server was professional, charming and friendly. Would love to go there again but sadly we are just passing through...

Yelp
Great lunch spot with a view! Stopped in for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed Boathouse Rotisserie & Raw Bar. First off--the view of the river is fantastic, and parking was a breeze (always a bonus when you're hungry!). The staff was friendly and helpful, offering great suggestions without being pushy. We lucked out with a half-off special on Chesapeake oysters when ordering a dozen--fresh, briny, and absolutely perfect. The Acapulco shrimp was light and refreshing, and the wood fire grilled squid had an awesome smoky flavor--both dishes were a hit. Overall, this was a quick stop that turned into a standout meal. We'll definitely be back. Five stars!

Yelp
Outstanding. Came here on recommendation on a business trip and we ordered some shared plates and individual entrees. I opted to go healthy and got the rotisserie chicken salad, which I could not stop eating. It was my first time trying fried okra and it did not disappoint! My dinner guests also enjoyed their entrees. As it was summer, we were seated on the outdoor patio and enjoyed the gorgeous Chattanooga sunset during dinner. It was a great experience!

Yelp
Food, Service, Atmosphere, and the vibe of the place were on par. The place made it a good final place to eat b fore our drive home the next day.

Yelp
This has to be in my top 10 favorite restaurants in the South. The service is always on point and the food is always fresh and delicious. You have to, HAVE TO get the New Orleans bbq shrimp. The sauce is divine and you'll want to dip all your food in it, nonetheless the juicy shrimp and bread that it comes with. Oysters are insanely fresh for being in TN. I prefer the fresh over their grilled ones. Their bbq is also fantastic, especially the nachos with that salsa. I'll always stop here when I come through Chattanooga.
google avatar

Jay A.

Yelp
The appetizers are where it's at! Had the Loaded oysters and the bbq shrimp and both were fantastic. The service was great.
google avatar

Trell S.

Yelp
I ordered the Rockefeller Oysters and Catfish dinner. Surprisingly the Catfish dinner was only $12 and good. I received good service and the food came out fast. I will definitely attend the Boathouse again.
google avatar

Yelp
The service and ambiance is always great here. The Lawton Rita is their signature drink and very good. They have a good variety on their menu. We love to get the calamari and cheese dip appetizer, chicken or shrimp quesadilla for the kids, I usually get the rotisserie chicken salad or salmon salad, and husband loves the poke bowl or shrimp po boy. We eat here at least once a month. Very happy to have this place in Chattanooga!
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Place was packed at 6:30 on a Thursday. We opted to sit at the bar vs a 45 minute wait for a table. Our waitress at the bar was awesome. Sitting at the bar we got to watch them shuck oysters. Dinner and a show! We had the calamari, followed by fish tacos and trout almondine and wrapped up with keylime pie. The view here is awesome at sunset.
google avatar

Shari W.

Yelp
Went to Ruby falls and they recommended going here for lunch. Great suggestion as the food was spectacular and service was quick. Great view of the river. We had smash burger, chicken salad and shrimp poor boy. We started with crab cakes at the suggestion of our waiter. Best choice!!! So yummy and full of crab meat. Definitely need to come back.

Lina P.

Yelp
The service is good. The ambience is fabulous especially outside. Don't get the chips and salsa expecting the chips to be warm and don't get the brownie expecting the brownie to be warm. The rest is great.
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
Wonderful chicken salad.....best roasted broccoli.....good shrimp po'boy....ice cold draft beer and excellent service. Even though it was a busy Friday afternoon, we were seated quickly and enjoyed our late lunch very much! Comfortable dining area. Will try the outside seating next time. Beautiful view of the river.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
The view and service was great. Food was mediocre and prices/portions weren't great. Food lacked flavor. The bread and olive oil appetizer had some spice but wasn't the best and the fish tacos included 2 tiny pieces of fish and absolutely no flavor.
google avatar

La Juania M.

Yelp
Good place for a group. It was 6 of us and yes we did have to wait but they have plenty of room. You can wait outside or inside. We ordered a variety of seafood apps to share and they all came out fresh. The crab cakes were all crab little filler. The shrimp ceviche was one of the best dishes we had next to the brownie. That brownie is a must.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was phenomenal. Raw bar is a must. Both oysters and clams were fresh. New Orleans style BBQ shrimp and fried calamari were delicious. We wanted to order more food but the waiting time was too long on Saturday night. We got seated 25 minutes before the restaurant closed. Service was very strange. Our waitress kept walking away while we were ordering food. Not sure why she was in such a hurry to walk away after we only ordered one thing, walked away again after told her what we wanted for the second dish and then, walked away again when we ordered the third dish. We will definitely come back for food. Ps. We came back the next day (Sunday 06/09) and ordered a bunch of food! Cassandra, our waitress was amazing. Great service and great food. Two thumbs up
google avatar

Yelp
Started off with a Mojito. Todd was my bartender. I knew I wanted BBQ shrimp which was outstanding with the BBQ butter sauce. For my main course Todd talked me into the Texas brisket dip which had great taste in the au jus. It had red onion which enhanced the smoke flavor on the brisket. It came with fries and I opted to order a side of wood smoked mushrooms which were cut thin which helped each piece soak in the smoke flavor. 2 nights in a row! I'm batting .1000 in Chattanooga. I wouldn't change a thing about my meal including my seat in front of the shucking station. Todd did outstanding with drinks and food suggestions. Boathouse is on my short list for this beautiful laid back city. Cheers

Yelp
Really enjoyed our lunch here! We popped in while passing thru Chatt and got some happy hours drinks and a light lunch. Everything was great from the service, to the food, and the location. Just wish they had a few more vegetarian options! I still highly recommend!

Yelp
Busy place. Server was quick and attentive. Crab cakes and fried catfish were good. Husband also had grilled oysters and said they were decent.

Yelp
EVERY. DANG. TIME. when we come to Chattanooga this is a must go to spot. Owners are wonderfully friendly. Amazing margs but be careful with those jalapeños! They'll burn your

Yelp
We thought this place might be kind of a cheesy tourist trap, with its riverside location, and kind of kitschy decor. We took my in laws there thinking it was a great spot for older people. Well. It turned out that we all loved it!!! The food was delicious, the service was good, and the view was really good (the Iron Man was going on, so traffic was a nightmare, but kind of neat to watch while sitting lol). I loved my poke bowl and my family all had praise for their dishes. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
Great views and good food! Wood grilled Salmon had a lot of flavor. Not so much on the rice or black beans. Service was great even during rush. Overall a pretty good meal
google avatar

Zakia D.

Yelp
This place is always busy whenever I pass by. It's not too far from my boyfriend's job and he mentioned trying it. The wait time was FOREVER but it was on a Friday night. Parking is extremely limited too. It was like the hunger games trying to find a spot. Service was good about a 4/5. I tried the mojito and it seems to be a fan favorite but it was just okay to me. I usually order a blueberry mojito but they couldn't or wouldn't make it. The sweet tea was definitely done right! I started with a 1/2 dozen of oysters. Best part of the meal! We also tried their house salad with ranch it was very onion heavy or maybe the kitchen staff was in a rush and threw a bunch of sliced red onions on top. My boyfriend tried the fried catfish and fries. He rated it a 3/5. I had the New Orleans shrimp I give it a 3/5 as well. Portion sizes were great for both of us. We ended the night with a slice of Key Lime pie. Delicious! Now as for the views STUNNING! Chattanooga is a sitting photo opt and this place is a site to see as well. Even with the crowds it's a beautiful location with plenty of beautiful views. We will be back and try a few of the other menu items.

Yelp
Love the Lawton's Margarita. Service is always great. The views of the water are awesome. Onion rings with Creole Mayo sauce are amazing. My wife loves the chicken quesadilla and I love the brisket. One of our favorites in the Chattanooga area.
google avatar

Robin D.

Yelp
We always stop here on our annual trip through TN. No matter how busy it is, we can always find a seat at the bar. The food, drinks, and service are always great. The Chesapeake oysters never disappoint this time of year, and my go-to is the stuffed poblano pepper. Honestly, we've never had anything we didn't like. Beautiful spot right on the river, can't beat the views!
google avatar

Amelia R.

Yelp
Food was amazing! We got to sit right by the river, beautiful view! Our server was very sweet and so helpful. Try the key lime pie!
google avatar

Corey P.

Yelp
Always the best food, drinks, and service! Not a better food atmosphere in Chattanooga and consistently above expectations on all the things. You have to try the New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp.. best on the menu! (Add a side of rice or fries to get the remaining sauce!)

Jes B.

Yelp
This place is mid. It was loud inside. The food was very bland and had little flavor if you're someone who enjoys and indulges in flavorful food. I got the chicken salad sandwich. I asked for the ginger dressing on the side but the recipe has ginger inside it. I thought it was strange. Our appetizers were onion rings which were just plain (unseasoned batter) fried onions, and a roasted garlic and feta dip which was just pieces of feta, garlic and olive oil. No seasoning IMO. Nothing we got was bad. It all tasted perfectly fine and the price point is fine for what you get. It's just the type of place you go to with a larger party where you don't expect the food to be great. Not somewhere you'd go more than once or for a date night. That being said, the service was great our server was so sweet and nice and everyone was kind and the food came out very fast.
google avatar

Melina B.

Yelp
What a great place to enjoy a delicious meal with a great view! We heard that this place is always busy but we were excited to try it! When we walked in, the hostess explained how there was a wait to sit outside but inside had no wait, so we decided to sit inside. The inside is pretty and there is a huge bar as well. The waitress was kind and attentive. I decided to get the chicken tortilla soup that came in a decent size bowl with tortilla chips, cilantro and a lime on the side. It was delicious! My husband ordered the salmon with the side of rice and beans and it was delicious! I definitely recommend coming here for a nice meal and a great experience!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
What's not to love about Boathouse, it's got great views of the river with top quality food and drinks. Don't miss their specials, Monday has great oyster specials. Great for dinner or lunch, the staff is gonna take great care of you.
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
I love how the deck has a great view of the river and the parking was convenient too. But I didnt like how oysters were too small
google avatar

Linda I.

Yelp
Went on Friday afternoon and waited about 25-30 minutes to be seated. There was plenty of parking. Our server was great. I really enjoyed the Chesapeake oysters, they tasted great. The trout almondine and green beans were okay. My husband's brisket had great flavor. I recommend to get the bread pudding. Good portion to be shared. The view was great overlooking the water. If you seat outside, it is much quieter also. Overall it is good, but I think there are other better restaurants in Chattanooga.
google avatar

Tanya B.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying plan accordingly because this restaurant is busy and parking can be a challenge. When we arrived we were able to park but again it's busy. We waited for maybe 15 mins to be seated. We were seated by a window and we were able to see the river it was an awesome view! Our hostess and service was excellent! I ordered fried calamari and that was delicious! Everything I ordered was tasty. Definitely a 5/5! Check out my video, follow, and SYOY!

Debbie D.

Yelp
apparently this restaurant only has one table in this entire restaurant that will accommodate a party larger than 6 people and doesn't take reservations arrived at 5:00 pm on a Monday took my name and told me 45 min to an hour... we'll almost 2 hours later we checked with the host and was told sorry need more time the party ahead of you isn't ready to leave need more time. I ask if he knew maybe how long I don't know was his answer. waited a few min more and gave the pager back and left and they did not even care a few less to care about I guess. the restaurant must make tons of money so they don't mind letting 700 bucks walk I wonder if the server minds loosing a 150 dollar tip. won't go back.

Yelp
My brother and his wife met me here to pick up his two children after they had a fun week with me in Chattanooga. I went in and placed our names on the waitlist when there were 30 minutes out do the table would be ready when they arrived. Just as they pulled in our buzzer went off - perfect timing. Not so perfect is the fact I didn't not realize they brought their dog and Boathouse doesn't accommodate dogs on the patio. Thankfully the hostess offered a remedy. They have tables on the down backside with a river view. We could place to go orders and eat there. Great! The tables were iron ones but with a beautiful view of the river. It appears to be the smoke break/staff break area. It was a hot summer day so a break from the direct sun but still quite hot since there are no outdoor fans similar to their patio area. They could add fans and this would attract more guest who don't want to wait but want a river view while eating their to go meal. The to go server (whose name I forgot) but was AMAZING! He took our order and then since we were eating outside recommended we order my brother's oysters at the bar to have them shucked and take the tray outside to enjoy. He didn't even question that we'd return the tray (and we did). So the food. Several in our group had chicken quesadillas. They said they were just ok. My brother enjoyed the oysters. I had mussels and clams. Honestly I was surprised by the number of empty shells -which was the majority of them. The meat had fallen out into the broth. The broth did have a nice flavor. Just strange to pick through mostly empty shells. This is my third time here and honestly it's the view that keeps me coming back. The food is nothing to write home about BUT you get a phenomenal view while you eat.

Walter H.

Yelp
Awesome food atmosphere and view with friendly staff!! A must try when in Chattanooga!
google avatar

Fatima L.

Yelp
Food was average with the exception of the fish tacos. Super busy so if u can go with reservations would be good. Just a heads up, they do have an ant problem. My friend had to take out a red ant from my hair because they crawled from the bench.
google avatar

Raul M.

Yelp
I was highly disappointed in the amount and size of my order. I ordered half a dozen oysters that were the size of a silver dollar. At 2.50 each, it was a big ripoff. I ordered a shrimp poboy and the size of the bread was around 2 inches with 4 shrimps sitting plan top with tails sticking up. My wife ordered fish tacos and when you picked it up the tortilla broke apart. The calamari was ok. I spent 89 dollars for a very disappointing meal. DON'T ORDER THE QUATER SIZE OYSTERS. Talked to manager and the only thing she said was that it is what it is!
