16 Top Places for Tamales in Houston

"This Rosenberg restaurant has earned a reputation for its carne asada, barbacoa, and some of the best pork and chicken tamales in Fort Bend County, which are available daily for $22 a dozen or $12 for a half-dozen. Be sure to get its gravy or salsas on the side for some added spice." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain

This place is very popular in Rosenberg. The food is excellent, the margaritas are amazing . I went with friends for the karaoke night on 04/12/25. Everyone was buzzing with anticipation food, and drinks were flowing. The place was packed. We had an excellent time listening to the Karaoke and sharing memories between friends !!! The Tejano portion of the songs was my personal favorite . Do yourself a huge favor and visit Bob's Taco Station on the karaoke night. we all had a really good time !!! Bring all your friends to Bob's for good food and great times !!

First time coming to this place, since moving to Rosenberg in the last 2 months. We have been wanted to try it. Have to say the food is good. Very tasty, good portions for the cost. We, unfortunately, for our first visit happened to get the waitress That’s sadly the a very sloppy job. She saw me wiping down the seats, as they were left very greasy from the previous person that sat there . She failed to ask us if we wanted chips and salsa. I pointed this to her, since I said everyone else being given ships and salsa without having to ask, and when I did, she said it was in additional cost, even though I hurt, no one else being asked, or told the same thing. I wouldn’t have mine paying for it, but it was the fact that it just didn’t seem fair, since it was offered Without question to every other table, but ours. Coffee was great, even though I have to drink it black since the creamers were rancid. 😓 then last, but not least I requested corn tortillas that accompany the meal. But they were never given to me. I had to also remind her., and she also failed to provide a receipt. I would say she was having a day off, but she definitely seemed to be on point with every other table, but us. It was so far the worse service in Rosenberg we had. Once again, I remind the food was good And we will give this place another chance based purely on food taste. Our to go box I am questioning if it was used 🤭

Bob's Taco Station in Rosenberg is an absolute gem! My son and I had lunch there recently, and everything was spot on. The food was delicious—make sure to try their tamales, they’re top-notch! I had the carne guisada plate, which was packed with flavor, and my son enjoyed the beef enchilada plate. The service was outstanding; we felt right at home from the moment we walked in. The ambiance is amazing, capturing a true Texas vibe. We can’t wait to come back and try more items on their menu. Highly recommend this place!

Google
I ate at Bobs Taco Station yesterday for the first time and let me tell you I was very impressed. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. Our waitress was Glenda and she is one of those people that make you feel right at home. I live in Angleton so I don't get to Rosharon very often but when I do I will definitely stop by Bobs Taco Station again.

Google
The food was good. Parking is a little tight and we went super early, although that day they also had a car show down the road. I got the pork chop breakfast- it was really tender and taste was great. My boyfriend got a mix plate, ABSOLUTELY get the barbacoa! It’s so flavorful and super tender. When I go back, that’s all I’m going to get We also got some tamales to go which were good. Try this place out, it was also featured on Triple D so that’s cool :)

My husband and I were passing thru Richmond on our way home. Based on the reviews, we stopped at Bob's Taco Station. We both ordered a Spanish omelet. It was delicious, and the homemade flour tortillas were excellent. Our server was not very attentive, and it took a while for us to be served. They were very busy.

I so wanted more from Bobs Taco Station. The tacos themselves were fine. Coffee was good. I had the migas which were bland, potatoes from a bag and refried beans which were the best part of the plate. The corn tortillas are fresh. Pancakes were really good. Chips and salsa were just ok. The bummer was service. We had a really bad waiter. Just not into his job. Forgot is pretty much. We had to ask another waitress for chips and salsa we ordered. Didn’t ask how the food was and came only at the end to ask if we needed anything.

Google
Bob’s has the best breakfast tacos ever, the bacon-egg and cheese tacos are my favorite. Bob always makes sure that my tacos are made to perfection, he allows special requests. Fresh homemade tortillas. All of the staff are amazing and Bob’s has been my go to forever!! They also make tamales, very good!! A great place to visit and have a nice breakfast/lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Tamales are fantastic. Burritos are loaded and filling. I usually head over and place my order to go.

Yelp
Bob's now has margaritas and other drinks, is open weekend nights, has live music at night (Saturdays? I haven't been yet), and they will be having a karaoke night early December. Gotta check it out.

Yelp
Think they were off today at breakfast. I love this place and have bragged on their crispy tacos for many years to anyone who would listen about where the best Mexican food is in Houston area. But this morning it was off. Shells were thick, not thin and almost translucent like in past visits. One of my tacos was delivered with a broken shell . I'm a Houstonian who doesn't live here any longer and I know my way around the Houston food scene. Bob's to me is so authentic and the service is friendly and good, but when I visit, I go with people who are locals in Richmond/Rosenberg. Anyway, five stars for the experience and will give them another try on next visit to the area in hopes the crispy taco shells return to what I love. Two stars for food today. Terrific queso too and the red sauce in the squeeze bottle is yummy!

Bobby B.

Yelp
Fabulous Taco Tuesday! Great home made roasted hot sauce with fresh made chips! And they have more sauces in a bottle that they keep cool in the fridge. Green sauce is hot and red is good! I

Yelp
Great food. Accommodations for large parties. Flour tortillas are the best in town. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Outstanding taco joint a ways out of Houston. The carne guisada is a culinary masterpiece. Must try if you are in the area!

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try this out. Breakfast was pretty good, but didn't live up to its reputation, which is excellent. The service was good, but later in the meal when it got busy was not as good. We waited for the check for 20 minutes. I had the migas, and while different (the had corn chips in it), not very good. The potato's were good but no spice at all. The beans were bland. All in all, I'll try it again to see if it was just me.

Yelp
Great food! Seating is limited but staff goes all out to get you seated! Their menudo is on point and the portion is huge! Best pancakes I've had in a LONG time and again portions are huge! You won't leave hungry, that's for sure!

Yelp
Mexican hole in the wall in Rosenburg, TX. Had the Wednesday special, All you can eat enchiladas (beef, chicken, or cheese) w/ rice & beans. Friendly staff, pretty clean, been here forever. Excellent Telmex enchiladas!
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Terrible food. Rude service. They charge you extra for chips and salsa (depending on what you are ordering) then are rude enough to make sure everyone knows at the table the chips and salsa are only for a certain person at the table (because it came with their food) My stepdaughter's chorizo looked like a dog puked it up. There is a sign on the wall saying if you don't like the wait to get your food then there is McDonald's and Taco Bell down the street. Trust me, it's a warning that you would have been better off going somewhere else.

Douglas S.

Yelp
We used to go often but today we sat for 15 minutes with no waitress while others were served after we arrived. We were sitting at table 4. DON'T SIT AT TABLE 4 AS YOU BECOME INVISIBLE!!!! The food is good but service was bad today!!!!!!

Abbas J.

Yelp
Surprised that this place has low ratings. I came in right at opening and had the Gerald and the chorizo egg breakfast tacos. Both were delicious and served quickly. So good I got a third taco. Ambiance is casual and what you would expect for a taco place. Service great, but it wasn't too busy when I went.

Yelp
So is the hype worth it yet?? So far the whole thing was very good and loved the atmosphere plus the wall art of decorations, satire and photos along with awards splattered everywhere !! I had a Crispy Beef Taco and two Tamales The Taco was decent....Tex-Mex style, but the Tamales were the bomb and very tasty I didn't have enough time to experience this place with a full menu option I definitely will try to come back again within the time constraints of operation. Like I said.....decent Taco but in order for me to give this place a "5" ....I will have to eat something more! Overall experience was really good

Yelp
Bob's Taco is my favorite Mexican Restaurant!!! Their quality of service has always been top notch! The place is well maintained! Last but not least, the quality of their food is second to none!! Love their enchilada plates and carne guisada tacos!! Highly recommend those looking for quality!

Yelp
I've been coming here since high school. I always get the same thing, sausage egg and cheese taco. I have tried most things on the menu. Our go to is the Tex mex plate which has tamale, cheese enchilada, rice and beans with a hard shell taco. Hubby always subs the taco for carne guisada. Bobs has upgraded the place recently, used to be worn down place with so many fun signs on the wall. While those signs are still there they now have a margarita bar & linens on the table. Bathroom got and upgrade too. Good thing is the staff is still the same. They welcomed me by name as they always do. Always friendly and inviting.
google avatar

Kristyn M.

Yelp
Our server was very nice and the queso with brisket was good. The carne guisada had no flavor, but have to say it was tender. The ground beef in the crispy taco had no flavor at all. Taco Bell and taco cabana have better crispy tacos than that. There's no way Guy Fieri hyped this place up on DDD. Might as well call their tamales straight up masa. I posted a picture of the "pork tamale" half way in. $21.99 is absolutely ridiculous and don't see myself going back.
google avatar

Yelp
One word: Tamales! Why the heck am I in Rosenberg? Let alone a Tex Mex place in Rosenberg? Well, recently, I had to get my windshield repaired at a location near by and I figured I'd look up what was around the area. Bob's Taco Station has a ton of reviews in an area that you would not figure would be very yelpy. My wife loves the Tamales so much that we have came back multiple times and just ordered them to go. Their tacos and other offerings are solid, but their tamales are phenomenal.
google avatar

Alan T.

Yelp
The food was ok certainly not as authentic Mexican food as I expected but it wasn't that bad. Pretty good sized portions the flavors where hit and miss in my opinion but nothing to bad. The tacos where good I wasn't too impressed with the tamale. The staff was friendly and very attentive great location convenient as well. Overall a positive experience and worth a try if your in the area.
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
The food is good but in my opinion way overpriced. Service was slow. Everything is extra price. I did like the dive atmosphere. Not big place you can end up waiting if you want a seat. It was on dinners, drive- ins and dives. I believe that helped a lot of the hype.
google avatar

Yelp
So wow it's been a good 10 years or so since we've been back and boy once again did they disappoint. Ordered the carne guisada enchiladas and waited the 40 min or so for them to come out, mind you that there was about 5 other people in the place. I mean they have signs all around the place saying they cook from scratch if you don't like it there's a Taco Bell & McDonald's down the street which now in hindsight sound much better. But I was like ok they're taking long these should be freakin good. Heck no they came out looking sad at room temperature at best. I need to not say anymore. And with my wife with her breakfast plate, our 2 drinks and $42 later I do not recommend.

Thomas R.

Yelp
Great food from friendly and professional staff. I ordered 24 breakfast tacos for a work meeting. From the time my order was taken to the time I left, I felt welcomed. Smiles all around! The tacos were a big hit. Everyone loved them.

Peter V.

Yelp
Saw that Guy Feiri review a number of years ago and always wanted to try the place; got the chance last week, finally. Verdict: Guy Feiri doesn't know Tex Mex. Sorry. - Atmosphere: Great on the eyes. Signs; banners; photos galore. - Cleanliness: As a whistle. Absolutely. - Waitstaff: Very friendly. Helpful. Excellent. - And now, sadly, the main attraction, The Food: At best, mediocre. I really wanted to like it, and roll out of there singing it's praises....but no. Pretty much flavorless. I mean, I really liked the place -- there's a lot to like -- but I won't be going back. Food-wise, there are much better Tex Mex choices all around the area.
google avatar

Janiel R.

Yelp
We came for breakfast and I ordered the Mexican omelette which was so good! My husband got the huevos rancheros with a side chorizo and egg taco he was satisfied with his plate. Service was great and the wait wasn't too long for the food. Ambience of the restaurant was cozy and historic. I really loved all the wall decor and details posted about the owners and past. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try!
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
Holy guacamole this place is legit. We got the gauc salad to start - huge portion and provided a lot of substance to enhance the amazing tacos. Carne guisado was out of control. Also the best thing on the menu were the mini donuts! Overall one of the best restaurants ever! Don't mess with perfection and we loved the signs and flare on the wall
google avatar

Sheila Z.

Yelp
Don't waste your money. We order a dozen tamales for $21.99. A lot of masa and a smear of meat. Masa was undercooked. So disappointed. My mother in law had the menudo and said it was bland and "Just bad". I will not return.
google avatar

Belinda M.

Yelp
I was looking for a great place to purchase tamales and this restaurant popped up! Researched and found that Guy Fieri even visited this place! Decided to drive to Rosenberg and check it out! We loved it! We tried mixed plates so we could sample as much as we could... and their tamales are wonderful! Going back this weekend to try their chicken tamales, too! Worth the road trip!!!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
I saw this restaurant on Guy Fieri show Triple D's! So we got in the car and took that 40 minute drive because Guy never fails me. It was so worth the drive! Cool part is I ended up sitting in the perfect spot a picture of Guy was right next to my head So I ordered the Triple D plate! It's Carne Guisada, 1 tamale with gravy and cheese, 1 crispy ground beef taco, rice and beans and some fresh hot tortillas! The carne guisada was so tender I was eating it by itself lol. Everything was amazing and delicious. The service is great! I love the staff attitudes. They are friendly and happy. This is a hidden gem that's the worth the drive from Houston to get fat and full!

Yelp
It's pretty satisfying when a place lives up to the hype. My wife and I went to Bob's Taco Station after randomly watching the Food Network and saw it was right down the road for us. The atmosphere is pretty laid back, and the decorations show their local spirit. When we sat down I asked our waiter what he liked. He recommended the Triple D Special and what a recommendation it was. He said "after working here for 20 years, I know what's good." Let me tell you, I've had tamales from alot of different places. Homemade. Side of the road. Friends. But this place had the very best I've ever Now everything else was good, but the one tamale was my favorite. Next time I'll be ordering a plate of those things with the gravy and everything. They have something special here. 5 Star review is deserved for the tamale alone. The other food was good, but I couldn't get past how delicious it was. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the salsa. But the services, and the main dishes are incredible. I will be returning, and I will be bringing friends. Highly recommend.

Jason C.

Yelp
Over priced and not great I mean even the 7 eleven tacos are better. Wouldn't recommend unsure if it was the choices I made but for the price this place sucks.

Shawn B.

Yelp
Only Mexican restaurant in the world that doesn't serve chips and salsa to every table. Queso is very watery! Service is fair. Ordered Tex Mex plate - "crispy taco" was chewy and stale. Enchilada and tamale were okay.... Too many other great Mexican restaurants to ever come back here

Pamela A.

Yelp
I ordered some chicken tamales from Bob's & they were really good! I will definitely order again!
google avatar

Karen 2.

Yelp
would overall recommend. the tamales were bomb! so were the tacos. delicious and tasted pretty authentic imo.
google avatar

Yelp
Triple D was right again on another Texas landmark. We crossed another off the Flavortown list. The owner was super nice and from San Antonio, so you get the best of the best!! Tamales are a must have!! Do not leave H-Town until you've stopped here!!! The service was quick and super friendly!!
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
This is my second time to visit Bob's Taco Station. A neat place where Triple D has been before, with a ton of pictures and sayings to look at while you eat. I had two ground beef tacos and two fajita beef tacos. Honestly, just OK! Friendly service, clean and a good place to go to if you've never been The sign reads, " Tamales voted best in Ft. Bend County ". I'll give them a try next time. When in Rosenberg, Texas, give Joe's a try. Go get Full

Benni L.

Yelp
Very expensive breakfast plate which was two eggs, bacon, beans, potatoes. The coffee was good. The service was moderate. Eating area was clean. Should've stayed home and ate a bowl of cereal instead.

Jackie C.

Yelp
i love bobs tacos!! service is always great and staff is very nice! i think this is the best place for tacos!!
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Been a while since I've been there. Decided to drop by for breakfast. Had a hard time choosing, but decided on a a Spanish omelette and one pork tamale. The waiter was great and responsive. He brought out the meal and it was really good! The o letter hit the spot and the tamale was really good!

Marc B.

Yelp
Just terrible. Food lacks flavor and taco portions are so small and ridiculous for the price. Server is not nice at all. We had to ask for everything like refills and felt like we were bothering them. Just taking our business elsewhere. To each their own.
google avatar

Joanne K.

Yelp
Came for a late breakfast 10:50 on a Saturday. Needed a table for two. Was told it would be 30 minute wait because they had no seating for 2. As we were looking at least two 2 empty 4 tops and one empty round 6 top. I guess they don't need our business or money! We will not be back!

Joyce L.

Yelp
Horrible food and horrible service so many people get food poisoning from this place only because they were on that famous TV show. Do they keep getting people to come into that dirty kitchen? I've known people that worked in the kitchen and quit because of the bacteria there.

Rosa A.

Yelp
Happen to be in Rosenberg. Disappointed in the barbacoa tacos, not much flavor. Chicken fajita had better flavor. Weren't asked if we wanted sauce and chips, they were brought to us and then charged. If I am having to pay for something at least ask and don't assume. Good flavor on the sauce. Service was good.
google avatar

Paola D.

Yelp
Heard about this on the radio, was actually hungry when I stopped by. This place is disappointing. Food is bland. Service is sub par. Don't waste your money here. Go to la Cocina on 359.
google avatar

Jullian L.

Yelp
Quick, friendly service and a nice hot breakfast! The tacos were barbacoa, Gerald and Carne Guisada. The Guisada was my favorite for the flavor! Green sauce is bomb too. Be sure to ask for Alfonso Garcia when you're dining in for the best service around!

G W.

Yelp
It was a gas station years ago, thus the name. Has been rated best tacos in town several times and they are excellent. Go there one time and you will be be back again and again!
google avatar

W W.

Yelp
Breakfast was slightly above average. And they give pretty large portion. Staff is friendly.

Yelp
We accidently ran across Bob's and had no idea of their history with Guy Fierra. We just wanted good Mexican food for breakfast so we took a chance. They have breakfast and lunch hours. The hours are Tuesday - Friday & Sunday 7:00 am - 2:00 pm and Saturday 7:00 am till 5:00 pm. I'm so glad they extended Saturday hours. Bob's is a small hole in the wall kind of place. Casual attire, laid back atmoshere, friendly servers, affordable and you can meet Bob. Bob's is family owned business plus the menu is homemade. Take time to look at the walls full of old pictures, posters and memorabilia. The salsa and chips are complimentary for the first round. Their still a bargain at $2.29. I can't get enough of the fire roasted salsa, finely processed and full of flavor with chopped chilies, onions and heavy on the cumin. The salsa isn't red but almost black. I often pour it over my my entree, beans and tacos. So, so good!! We wanted to try everything on the menu. The server recommended the Carne Guisada Plate (12.99) or basically Beef Tips with Gravy. The meat was fork tender with a fresh cumin flavor. The gravy is so yummy I could make a meal out of tortillas dipped in the gravy. The plate is served with tender rice, beans and warm tortillas. I was hooked but I totally shocked my family as I rarely eat beef. I crave this now and tough when I live 1600 miles away. My sister and son had the Enchilada Plate ($11.99) served with your choice of chicken, ground beef or Cheese and comes with beans, rice and tortillas. The cheese is so warm and thick in the enchildas. It's a cheesy, stringy mess of goodness. They now are my sister's favorite. Oh, stop by on Wednesdays for all you can eat enchiladas. My sister loves Wednesday and was I ever shocked at how many enchiladas she could eat. My son enjoyed his beef enchiladas but loved the meat on my Carne Guisada plate. It's now our go to meal here. The menu is full of tasty breakfast plates, tacos, tamales and lunch plates. The breakfast tacos and plates are very popular and affordable. Most days the food arrives so quickly. Today, I barely had time to check into Yelp and my food arrived. Stop by and first timers order the Triple D which has a variety of entrees.

Yelp
OMG!!! Where do I start? The food is so delicious & fresh. I've never had it so good since moving here 3 years ago. Also let me add the food is very light & filling, it doesn't leave you feeling heavy after eating. I had the pleasure of meeting ther owner Bob and he enlightened us with some history of the place. He is very personable and witty. The staff is nice & aimed to please no fake attitudes here. And the place was very clean even in the restrooms. All the motorcyclist this is a nice ride from Houston. For the car riders, still a pretty interesting ride down. Let me add that it's WORTH the drive for some authentic Mexican food. I will return to eat more of their delicious food & take home some tamales!!! 5 Star quality

joe M.

Yelp
AMAZING TEX-MEX!! Homemade tortillas...and especially hometown flavor from San Antonio...will definitely revisit Bob!!
