"Breakfast icon Bob and Edith's Diner is swinging open in Old Town Alexandria on February 28, taking over the vacated Ernie's Original Crab House location (1743 King Street). It's the sixth location for the 50-year old string of local diners." - Stephanie Carter

Really cool spot! Went for breakfast, got the chocolate chip hot cakes, Western omlette with breakfast potatoes, and a side of bacon. Everything was really well made, very delicious. I sat in one of the front windows on the stools and it was nice looking outside while dining. The staff was great, there wasn't a wait, and the bill didn't break the bank. The history of this place is also interesting! Passed down through three generations. Definitely a place worth checking out.

I went to Bob & Edith's Diner for breakfast and got corned beef hash, eggs, & hash browns. It was all well cooked and delicious. I appreciate that they are open 24 hours as it gives access to grab a bite to eat in the early morning hours before most restaurants open.

I’ve visited the US many times for work but I’ve never really sat down in a diner. You don’t see places like this in Australia. I’d read about them in novels and seen scenes on TV and movies. I was staying up the road and here for work, so on my last morning I wanted something substantial in my belly. I went for the signature country fried steak with brown gravy, hash brown, and eggs. I’ve never had coffee served in a mug which was so thick. It took a little getting used to. The meal and coffee were delicious. I loved it. It’s on a par with the fancy food you get from cafés in Australia. I feel full and I feel happy. The wait staff were very friendly and cheery. The food arrived quickly and it was hot and cooked well. I enjoyed myself. If I have to come to this area to work again, I’ll try to eat here again and try some of the other breakfast offerings.

The idea of Bob's & Edith's is good - a 24-hour diner serving all-day breakfast and classic diner food near hotel row, as there are not many food options on that end of King Street at night. The reality is that this is an overpriced, mediocre diner at best. Coming from NYC, where even run-down-looking diners tend to have good food, we found this place to be a real disappointment. We ordered takeout - a vegetable omelette with grits and a garden salad. The omelette was fine, although the vegetables were totally raw inside, including the onions. The garden salad was a good value, very large in size, with very fresh ingredients. But they only gave us one, small dressing, which was not enough for the salad at all. They also did not have salt and pepper to take out, nor hot sauce. What diner does not have hot sauce? I specifically asked if there were two sets of plastic utensils inside, and she said yes. There was one set. They gave us no plates. And when I arrived to pick up the order, they had forgotten the salad. So I had to wait for a while. I ended up going back there from our hotel for a second set of utensils and more salad dressing. Bottom line, the food was decent, not great, the service was not good, and the prices just OK. Not sure we'll go back, even if the diner is just steps away from the hotel where we stay on regular visits to the area.

Popped in for a quick dinner since I was in the area, and I’d been meaning to try B&E for some time (the proximity to metro is super nice and definitely influenced my decision). My server was very friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. Decided to go for a classic burger and shake, and a cup of black coffee. The burger and coffee quality was good, not mind-blowing, about what I expected from a 24/7 diner chain, but that’s not a complaint - we need more no-frills diners in the DMV in my opinion! The milkshake quality was excellent - I’ll definitely be hitting the gym hard in the coming days to work it off!

Delicious breakfast spot in Old Town Alexandria! We had really traditional diner staples and they did not disappoint. The over medium eggs were perfect and the bacon was nice a crispy. The grits were smooth and creamy and the pecan waffle was thick and full of nuts. And the wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. It is a bright clean environment and conveniently located at the top of King Street, a block away from the King Street metro. We will be regulars here for weekend breakfast!

Bob and Edith's Diner is a classic American eatery that has been serving up classic comfort food for generations. This iconic establishment is a staple in the community, renowned for its homestyle cooking, friendly service, and charming atmosphere. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bob and Edith's and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the food and the attention to detail in every dish. The club sandwich was a standout, with juicy, tender chicken, crisp bacon, ripe tomato, and a generous helping of lettuce and mayonnaise all nestled between two slices of toasted bread. The chicken tenders, which are a staple on the children's menu, were also a hit with my dining companion, who noted their crispy exterior and juicy, tender interior. The grilled cheese with ham was a true masterpiece, with melted cheese perfectly balanced with the salty, smoky flavor of the ham. The bread was perfectly toasted, creating a crispy crust that gave way to a soft, chewy center. The sandwich was filling, but not heavy, making it the perfect comfort food for a cold day. The service at Bob and Edith's was also top-notch, with the staff being friendly and attentive, always making sure that our glasses were filled and our plates were cleared in a timely manner. The atmosphere was charming and inviting, with vintage décor and a warm, welcoming ambiance. In conclusion, Bob and Edith's Diner is a true gem, offering up classic comfort food in a charming and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're in the mood for a classic club sandwich, crispy chicken tenders, or a grilled cheese with ham, you're sure to find something to love at this iconic establishment. I highly recommend Bob and Edith's Diner to anyone looking for a delicious meal and a memorable dining experience.

We ate here twice, dined in one and did take out. Dine in took an actual hour for the food. It was fresh and good but I also didn't get a refill until we finally got our food. It also took about 20 minutes just to be able to pay. There was a freaking line to pay. Now, when we do takeout trying to avoid the wait, they got my order wrong for my sides. Also, the sausage gravy on the country fried steak is oddly sweet. It's not going to be what you expect.
