Let me tell you. I just moved from downtown Detroit end of last year and my friend recommended Bob Jo’s for the best custard. Well, I finally went on an off day- early. Probably after a workout 😂 and walked up to one of the owners and told her I want this one! It was a social media post for a twist cone. Huge! I told her this was my first time here and what would she recommend. Easy- she said custard with toasted coconut. Well. That was an easy choice because I love toasted coconut and THIS was the best toasted custard ever. They made me taste it in front of it. And like a silly school girl I cheered. Size doesn’t matter in this case. I went for the medium. It was plentiful. And the prices were great. Support the small businesses with the big smiles.

Google
This is by far the best place to get what you pay for! Their portions are big and perfect, and you won't break the bank getting ice cream for the family. You can even indulge in the toppings and still stay in your budget. I only wished I lived closer! Also, their flavors are super good!

Kimberly Abraham

Google
The Custard here is the best! Vanilla, chocolate or twist. They also have different flavors of the day or month. You can get sundaes, cones, or even a "Boston cooler." Quick and simple. Parking can be really tight if they are busy, but it is worth the wait. Walk from another parking lot nearby if you need to. Very friendly staff too. We usually always stop by here if we are down in the area.

I've been going there since 1960 as soon as my sister could drive. I've been there with my sister ,brother, children, and boyfriends. Now I go to Custard Corner because it's closer to home and I'm now a senior. Keep up the delicious treats, hope I can get back there sometime.

Google
Been coming here since I was a baby with my parents. I’m 34…It’s always been my favorite! My family and I just had it for the first time this season and I immediately could tell a difference in the toasted coconut topping!!!! It was not as strong of a taste !!! I know with everything going on with the economy… I sure hope y’all didn’t change things up and this is me and my taste buds tonight 😵‍💫😩🙏🏻

Google
Local Gem in Wyandotte. Only open in the summer. Low prices and consistently packed due to the frozen yogurt/custard being amazing. The toasted coconut topping is 🤌🙌

Went for a visit for Grandma's 93rd Birthday 🎉 The absolute Best frozen custard I've had since I was a kid 🤩😍🤤

Loaded_Lion

Google
Affordable compared to other ice cream shops, supporting friendly small businesses makes Wyandotte. Fast services, outdoor seating area, or eat in the car. Great for the kids as the cones were good sized!

Angela S.

Yelp
So delicious! Ice cream or custard, I choose Bob Jo's every single time. Hardest part was remembering they only take cash.

Marie B.

Yelp
Short wait The young lady waiting on us was polite and cheery. We received our spectacular custard cones in no time. They are so delicious. Prices are a bit more than pictures. $2.90 for small and $3.20 for a medium custard cone. So worth it. Not sure if it always was but now it's a cash only sale

Albert T.

Yelp
It's closing weekend and we just had to go back to Bob Jo's to get our fix before the 7 month closure. They're only open Mid-April through Mid-September. Large Custard Twist in a Cup ($3.60) - Decadent, heavy, creamy, dense, everything you could want from a great frozen custard. Bob Jo's almost always has a pretty long line, so you know they have great turnover and you can expect to get freshly churned custard. Prices are only around 10 cents more than last year, but they've also undergone some shrinkflation (the current large cup is only around 2/3 the size of the large last year). Still, definitely worth the price for such a great custard! There's a reason Bob Jo's always has a line (don't worry, it moves fast). Go and get some custard; you won't be disappointed. Just make sure to bring cash!

Sara H.

Yelp
The best custard around. Will choose Bob Jo's over any other ice cream shop around. I love how they switch up a random flavor every week too. My only downfall is its cash only. Maybe add in Venmo if you don't want to add credit cards.

Ahlennah B.

Yelp
Kinda felt like eating rehydrated freeze dried astronaut ice cream. I wasn't really a fan of the flavor or the texture, even tho it was smooth as butter, it was really more like smooth as whipped butter, like a really stiff whipped cream rather than a custard. I just prefer my custards denser than this, creamier and less airy. This feels like a mousse, maybe. Service was quick & friendly on a rainy Tuesday evening. They serve a well swirled cone, but it's just not my preferred type of frozen custard. We got medium twists. There's a nice park to wander with your frozen treat, if you walk up thru the car dealership next door and turn left down the street! The hot local debate is btwn Bob Jos and Custard Corner - for me, CC is the winner.

Amanda H.

Yelp
The blond girl with blue eyes specifically heard me order 2 black cows charged my fiance for 2 black cows and only gave me 1. Then claimed I only ordered 1. Idgaf if you guys hopefully screw over the wrong person day. But you screwed me out of it because the second one was for my special needs child and there's no way I am getting something and he's not. Good job screwing people over. There's a special place in he'll for you

Ken F.

Yelp
What can you say, Bob Jo's is the best and a Downriver staple. This was a quick trip after school pick up. No wait this time of day but it can get very busy. The staff is friendly and efficient. In business for 76 years! Today we went with a couple classics. A small chocolate in a cup, and a small twist in a regular cone. Delicious. Remember, cash only.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Have heard about this place from many down river friends and was nearby, so I had to give it a try. It's a classic mom and pop ice cream stand. I got a classic chocolate/vanilla twist which was creamy and delicious. Portion sizes were very generous. My small cone was easily a medium. Someone after me ordered medium and large cones and both were huge. Prices very reasonable for the size you receive. Will definitely be back again.

Eva K.

Yelp
No one has this good of frozen custard! When we visited we always had to have a twist, tried places between here & CA and nothing compared .. a must go to place !

Andrew M.

Yelp
It is not Summer without a trip to Bob Jo's! Got a toasted coconut custard topped with toasted coconut. Yum!

Amelia B.

Yelp
The perk of this place, is that the flavors change weekly. We've made a tradition of sorts to try to make it once a week to try the new flavors. I've even gotten my mom on board. ]Another perk is that the Yogurt option is fat and sugar free. The chocolate and vanilla custard are sooo creamy and tasty. I like to get a banana split with the flavors of the week. if you cant decide on a flavor, you can always have them split it half and half. The downside is the lines get so long, and they are cash only.

Denise G.

Yelp
Throwback custard stand with great rotating flavors, serving the downriver area since 1947. It's a summer staple.

Scott S.

Yelp
I have found a couple places that are as good or better than BobJo's , but it took me many years to do so and many frozen custard stands to sit through before I would even find one as good as the Downriver gem, Bobjo's Frozen Custard. They have tons of great, fresh toppings and Bobjo's makes so many different combinations and creations that they will keep things interesting.

Fox E.

Yelp
Owned by Bob Seger, Joe Jackson (the one with shoes), Bob Marley, and Joe Cocker. The lady gave me a funny look when I told her to "Bob for Apples" but I was only "Jo" king. No. Nobody. It's a wonderful classic Downriver Detroit custard shop - tastes really awesome. The older lady didn't seem to like me very much, but the younger lady was willing to do me a banana malt with real banana instead of syrup. Awesome. It was pretty good. Not at all Milwaukee level (hi Leon's love you Leon's) but I enjoyed it. However their custard is the real strong point. The vanilla tastes like fluffy airy marshmallows. The chocolate tastes like you're eating a fluffy light chocolate milkshake. Portions are incredibly towering and enormous. The Cone is really fresh and this is the best custard I had in Detroit - and I tried plenty. So there's no chance of not giving it a 5, although like I said - Milwaukee still wins in terms of custardian cities on the west coast of Great Lakes. But it's not a fair comparison because, well, there is no better custard than Milwaukee. Anywhere.

Dawn C.

Yelp
I love that they have waffle cones now and the flavor of the week keeps you coming back! They only take cash.

Ronald R.

Yelp
It's no longer just a local business but a family tradition. I love this spot, and remember to bring cash need cause they don't expect plastic! Highly recommend checking out this business.

Cory T.

Yelp
The two differences between these two "lovely" custards is that one is filled from top to bottom with the filling asked for, the other (mine) has the tiniest bit of filling. I feel I may have been ice cream attacked because of the MAGA hat that I was wearing considering they were younger teens working and they all have the fuck trump mentality. I EVEN TIPPED! It's great to see that because of a hat, ice cream gets affected. Tasted good just completely jipped on topping.

Sundra H.

Yelp
I've had much better soft serve, I've also had much worse. My biggest complaint is how bland it is. I got a chocolate and vanilla swirl and the vanilla was totally overpowered by the chocolate. This ice cream is really a good vehicle for toppings as the weak flavor won't compete with the goodies you put on top. I will say that it's well priced as we got two medium soft serves for under 6 dollars, which is honestly what they're worth. However, they only accept cash which is such an inconvenience, I mean, I understand this place has been around for a while but let's get with the time. I'd say that this is a place you'd have to try for yourself, the low price point makes it easy to say try it to form your own opinion.

Patrick G.

Yelp
Great frozen custard. They have been around since the 50's. I have been going there since the early 60's. Best custard place around

Stevie J.

Yelp
Always great!!!! Opens on 4-8-22! Can't wait!!!! Ice cream is excellent! Starting to get a little pricey....

Rodrigo T.

Yelp
When the proper downriver rat, such as myself, emerges from its domicile during the warmer months. Certain things come to mind. Fishing, downriver cruise, kayaking, skating, art fair, and BOB-JO'S. Forget about Dairy Quinn, or Cold Scone. You can keep that ice cream all to yourself... Closed all throughout the winter season, only open during warmer springtime and through summer. Yes, frozen custard will dismantle everything you know about ice cream. Plus, there is none more popular spot in downriver than Bob-jo's. Half and Half and Strawberry is my go to flavors. if you've never had custard before, those two mentioned is the best way to start. After receiving your ice cream from the window, proceed to the seating area, where sharing tables are encouraged. You sit you eat and you shoot the breeze with whomever you've brung with. Then soak in the atmosphere. Where it seems as if this place is a glimpse of the past. The old Americana that still exists in the very heart of downriver. I love you bob-jo's!! I'll see you again next time.

Rose M.

Yelp
If you drive by and see a long line, it's WELL worth the wait! The custard is super tasty and it's been a staple in the Downriver area for quite some time. I got a medium pistachio cone and it was a lot of ice cream for a great price. The custard had the right balance and the pistachio flavor was just the right amount of flavor without being over bearing. This is the Mom and Pop place who knows what they're doing when it comes to custard. Love supporting local businesses and will definitely be back!

Sara A.

Yelp
This is a staple in our community. Always delicious always generous toppings and just the best custard around!

Shannon P.

Yelp
You are in one of two camps if you are from GI , Bob Jo or Custard corner. We love Bob Jo's. Its a tradition. Ask for Italian raspberry ice with vanilla custard. Not on menu but they will make it for you. Amazing.

Jackie M.

Yelp
I have been going here since I was a young child with my mom. We would run into all our neighbors in Southgate on different visits with the same idea. They have the best soft serve custard. I really appreciate it not being too sweet. I feel too many things are way sweeter than they need to be or just have added sweetness needlessly. I love to get a twist in a cup & sometimes I get it with toasted coconut. Their prices have always been reasonable. I always recommend Bob Jo's to everyone. I love to try some of the different flavors too. They have also been very friendly throughout the decades. I hope they will never close.

Donald M.

Yelp
This place has been here since I was a kid and I'm in my mid 50's. Best frozen custard, hands down!!!

Eugene S.

Yelp
Custard. Dictionary.com defines it as a confection/dessert made of eggs, sugar, and milk, either baked, boiled, or frozen. This is considered a noun. Originated from the Provencal region of France. Wikipedia defines it as a thick sauce or a creamy filling normally made in a bain-marie and used to fill eclairs, or in the context of our American Western ways of adding to our love handles, in fried sugary pastries affectionately known as "donuts". Yes, the custard donut (or is it doughnut?). Now, frozen custard is merely that. a confection that's more ice cream-like in substance but the ingredients tend to be more egg yolk based than dairy based which gives it a thicker consistency than your regular ice cream or gelato. Based on its namesake I decided to get one. Needless to say, you're supposed to get the cold bite that should be how ice cream or frozen custard should be. It's supposed to be enjoyable because it's cold, yet flavorful and sumptuous. My fro-custard experience with this place was nothing short of disappointing. It was cold. But way too rich to be ice cream. It was more like frozen cream or really whipped up half and half which no bite of the ice. The heavy creaminess causes the flavor to be lost as your mouth is overtaken by the cream and not the ice in the ice cream and that doesn't bode well. I've had better custard or you may as well find a Coldstone. I was told not to get the custard but the frozen yogurt... but needless to say, unless I get a free sample between the custard vs the fro-yo... i'll take a Coldstone or a Menchies... and I do love supporting a local business but... Bob Jo's didn't do it for me... amidst the glowing reviews. I'll have to be the first to 2 star this joint... sorry to say...

Heather C.

Yelp
I have had many frozen custards, Bob Jo's is by far the best! They have a special flavor of custard every week along with traditional chocolate and vanilla. They always let you try the flavor before ordering. I drive an hour to get their custard!

Chawlee L.

Yelp
This is the best place around for frozen custard or frozen yogurt. New flavors weekly, today was salted caramel and boysenberry. Always a line, but it moves fairly fast. The only downfall is they are seasonal and closed for 6 months out of the year.

Dale R.

Yelp
There is a reason Bob Jo' s has been around for all these years, stop by and find out why!!

Michelle W.

Yelp
Similar to Bill's Drive In, do not judge this establishment by its sub-par appearance. The custard and yogurt here is great! If you like a rich, thick, and creamy custard--this place is for you. The prices are reasonable. My husband prefers the vanilla custard with cherry topping, while I am a vanilla yogurt person. I loooove ordering a vanilla in a cup with layered sprinkles. Yup, that's right. LAYERED of sprinkles. A dash of sprinkles isn't enough for me, and the staff has no problem honoring my request to pile 'em on. Well, what about that missing star? Let me explain: -Parking is sometimes non-existent, as well as any seating area (no indoors available either). -Although the staff is prompt, they seem over worked and don't have much personality. There is ALWAYS a line, so don't be in a hurry. -There are only two flavors available in custard (chocolate and vanilla), and only one flavor in yogurt. Boo! No chocolate for me! Bob-Jo's is definitely worth a try!

Deana M.

Yelp
Just the best custard you'll ever have in your life, no big deal!! Cash only but worth the hassle! Just go here. Stop reading the reviews and go here right now, first chance you get. It's just THAT good.

Joseph H.

Yelp
Bob Jo's is a classic spot for the Downriver community and there's almost always a line. The custard is fairly good, though I wish it was sweeter and a tad bit colder, but overall good for the price. My only complaint is their stubborn refusal to integrate credit/debit. Like many people, I don't often carry cash and if you don't have cash, you're not getting Bob Jo's. Not good enough to make a special trip to the ATM, in my opinion.

Dulce A.

Yelp
The best custard in SE Michigan! Strictly outdoor seating mom & pop custard joint. Although, they do offer Froyo & flurry type options as well. They always offer that limited time only flavor of the month (maybe longer) however, this place gets the classic vanilla and chocolate just perfect. The frozen yogurt is the creamiest and lightest froyo I've ever had and Blue Moon is the tastiest! The portions are great for the price but be advised this is CASH only. Service is always friendly, fast & pleasant. If you are a sprinkles SNOB then please get your frozen treat with SPRINKLES (the best in the WORLD).

Shelly H.

Yelp
Timeless & classic.. who doesn't love frozen custard It's a must when you travel downriver

Tina M.

Yelp
I love their yogurt ice cream!! Wonderful flavors!! Just gotta remember to bring cash and not card for they only accept cash. Sometimes it's better than Dairy Queen!! ( ssshhh..,!!! Lol)

Chris G.

Yelp
Best custard in downriver. If you don't agree, please take me to your favorite custard place and buy me a Custard and see if I agree. I'm always willing to make my own opinion on free food lol.

Nathasja T.

Yelp
Oh snap! A new to me frozen treat place that has seriously great custard! Thick, creamy and sweet.. BobJo's makes me a happy girl. Ironically, I've been twice so far and had a shake both times. Chocolate malts are my go to, and this one was amazing. Probably the best I've had! The caramel shake I had he second time was crazy sweet, but good. My husband is not a shake person, hence I know how good the custard is, since I ate his. Obvi. Their toasted coconut topping is the sole reason I'll go for actual custard next time.. unless I can find a way to incorporate that into a drink, too. It's goood. My family loves their pistachio special flavor, so I am holding my breath waiting for it to show up on the menu.

Spiratus T.

Yelp
If you haven't been to Bob Jo's, you have missed a lot. Come taste the difference between garbage and premium custard. There's a reason why they've been in business since the 40s. I drive from Northville and pass over a hundred ice cream shops in favor of Bob Jo's Frozen Custard. Five stars!

Sara R.

Yelp
From Toledo area, and we don't have custard like this! Was awesome...now a favorite stop when we go north of the border!

Jen K.

Yelp
A favorite since childhood and it still tastes as good as it did when I was a child. The taste is amazing and I have not been able to find anything remotely close any where else.

Maiya M.

Yelp
AMAZING CUSTARD. Some amazing flavors, I love that they switch it up. My only complaint is that it's cash only. I understand if it's been that way for a long time but no card readers? Despite that, I am never dissatisfied. Toasted coconut is the best topping!

David A.

Yelp
Great custard, friendly service. Been going here for quite a few years. Never disappointed.

Al P.

Yelp
CUSTARD BLISS. Ah Yes Bob Jo's is now open for another season serving those great custard cones downriver since 1947. The daughter and I just returned with a belly full on half and half jumbo custard cones. The place is always lined up and well worth the 5 minute wait to order at the window. There custard cones are a bliss full treat for us each spring. Downriver iconic Custard stand celebrate 70 years with place packing all day our first 80 plus degree day. Flavor of the week Coconut Custard Yummy, had with stir in Oreo cookies and a Chocolate with Butterfinger, , yeah Michigan, yea Bob Jo's #bobjos #custard #downriverfriendseat #wyandotte #icecream

Ben D.

Yelp
I love ice cream, who doesn't? Of course I try to find the best places that has it around in the area. It's amazing to think that I grew up in the Downriver area and have never heard of this place until I took my kids there years later. I love the idea of a family owned business that runs itself well and keeps a good product for its customers. That is exactly what this place does. The building is nothing to speak of but the product speaks for itself. I can't really describe frozen custard any other way than "its good". This frozen custard is not like TCBY. This is made from real fresh ingredients. I believe that is the difference you taste from any other shop on the corner. When you come here you need to have patience as often times there are long lines. But that speaks to the way it is run and its product. Keep up the good work!

Emily S.

Yelp
Seriously, who doesn't love Bob Jo's?! The day they open should be a hometown holiday haha! Everyone looks forward to opening day and its always packed! I love that they keep it simple and by the looks of it, so does everyone else! There's not much else to say...if you haven't been here, you must go! You won't regret it, I guarantee it!!!

Margee F.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! So glad they're open again. It's the best treat ever. Stop by and be refreshed!

Nicole B.

Yelp
Everything about Bob Jo's is great but the fact it is cash only is so old school. I don't always have cash on me and so can't swing by even if I wanted to.

Kara W.

Yelp
This place is as good as (literally) everyone says. Good, quality custard with interesting favors (blueberry cheesecake right now!) and great prices! My only issue is that it was hard to actually get into the parking lot haha. I drove by a couple times because you have to turn onto Quarry to get in - you can't actually get there from Fort. Also, their listed hours here on Yelp are wrong. I mentioned it to the manager there and she said she'd notify the owner. I have no idea what the actual hours are, but they're definitely open later than 11:30am :)

Robyn B.

Yelp
Been coming here for years! Best custard ever!!!! But bring cash $$$$ it's all they accept!
