The San Francisco and East Bay Matcha Map

"Pair your matcha with tapioca pearls at Boba Guys, where you can get organic matcha poured over Straus Family Creamery milk, housemade syrup, and boba. I come here often, and nver have i have i ever had a bad poorly portioned and sweetened strawberry fresca as bad as this one. Sure the flavoring varies occasionally but the tea was bitter, not enough strawberry purée and it tasted like when i try to recreate this drink. I was really looking toward to this part of the day, safe to say money not well spent.

Revisited Boba Guys in Hayes Valley and here's my take on the boba shop: - Love the atmosphere here. Tall building with many windows for natural light. Staff has decorated the windows with cute plants and holiday themes. - Many seating options for individual and group studies, bar-style countertops, and even backyard patio sofa. - Restroom is clean and spacious. Parking is a bit tough around here but theres often times 1 or 2 spots of parking right in front. - Got the Strawberry Matcha Latte with oat milk, still tastes amazing like 3 years ago. - Tried the new Hojicha Banana, has some nice toasty notes but I still prefer the sweet Korean Banana Milk. Overall nice experience!

This store is one of my go 2 places for boba and one of the best boba guys stores out there in the bay area. Parking is fairly rough however with only a few spaces and double park spaces. I usually walk here with friends as it’s super accessible and close to public transport. Drinks though are hella good. The boba is always chewy and their matcha is the highest grade matcha. I am going to be back trying more of their drinks. So far I’ve tried all of their matchas and the hojicha and it’s a 5/5. They do also have the peppermint matcha going on right now and my friends say it’s superb. The bad things though is that they don’t have actual food and they only have snacks. Kinda expected though because it’s a boba shop and they focus on making quality tea and boba. The vibe is really cool for studying and spending long hours.

Google
Love the horchata from here. If you show up within the first 30 minutes of the store opening, they don’t have any boba.

Google
Classic classic classic! I always order the classic milk tea boba to determine whether the place is worth it or not. Despite the hype and consistent queue out the door, it is tasty taste indeed. Curious to try the HK milk tea next time.

Google
I’m glad they made the switch to compostable straws but ones that are sturdy enough like bamboo fiber. I used what seemed like a paper straw in another boba store (not Boba Guys) and it unraveled quite quickly so I had to get another one. Pictured is the classic milk tea with almond milk and tapioca balls. I went with the medium sweetness this time but should have gone with my normal recommended sweetness level. Mochi muffins are also a good addition! They’re quite tasty! Highly recommend this place and the lines are not as long as the one I constantly see at their Union Square location.

The pearls from boba guys are outstanding. I make sure to visit each time I come to San Francisco. They got rid of some of my favorite drinks, and no longer had green tea Which is why it’s no longer my favorite.

Google
Atrocious lines during peak hours usually keep me away, but on the rare occasion when no one is there, it's worth a stop to satisfy one's milk tea and boba craving. Lots of good choices for tea, and you can adjust sweetness and milk type and whether or not you want boba at all. The bobaristas (lol) are very nice people and the space, when not packed, is good for conversations with friends.

Yelp
3 year later update. This review is directly intended for how poorly management has been handling their chain. Since my last review - they have discontinued neighborhood discount and have since raised prices instead. INDEED, I am in agreement with paying for the cost of living increase but this level of disappointment from false advertising is ridiculous. I had a coworker during lunch buy drinks for BUY ONE GET ONE 50% off or something - some sweet BOGO deal she came back to tell us about. Supposedly the sale was in ALL of September. I was shocked because I had went for a lunch break in the first week of this month and was not given any idea or inkling of this BOGO sale and I was with other people. SO NO BOGO for me then. (disappointed face) - Anyway, I put that annoyance aside and since my other coworkers and I were all full from lunch we decided to go for the drink during our afternoon break. We got there at 3pm and asked about the BOGO deal and the person at the register was unaware of the BOGO offer giving me a confused face and looked to his side to another employee who then said to us "Oh. It ends at 2pm. Sorry." What the heck. There wasn't even a sign in their store of this promotion or its terms or conditions. Nothing found on their website because we checked before hiking to their store for the afternoon break. Only to find out this was an advertised post only found on INSTAGRAM. Nothing on their website - no signs in their store and not even all the employees know about it!? How is that even possible that not even their own employee knew about it? Shame on management for ASSUMING everyone has an instagram or follows them to know about this promotion - not putting up signs - offering it to customers during lunch. However, not giving a full guideline of the terms. At the end of it all - not giving proper notice to their employees of such promotions. I have been coming to this specific location of Boba Guys for more than 5 years and the insult to injury with the prices - losing neighborhood discount - degradation of quality of service, and now this?! Promoting a sale that isn't even really being promoted or highlighted properly in their own store - to a degree that the employees of the same store are unaware of the ongoing promotion. Service started to go down because management treated their staff poorly - quality is starting to suffer and prices are going up and false advertising is being spread and they're just okay with that? Do better Boba Guys - ya'll used to be the epitome of the best boba in town and now it's become something else. I mean that as - NOT in a positive way.

Yelp
It's a really cute location! I wanted to try something new and decided to try their seasonal coffee chai cloud. The drink was aesthetically beautiful and creamy, however the flavors seemed a bit off. It had a tang? possibly from the cold brew? but the flavors just weren't combining well :/ It wasn't unpleasant but will opt for a diff drink next time. My friend got the classic black milk tea with boba and also found his drink to be watery. Again, not a terrible drink but not the best bubble tea. Definitely a great spot to hangout with friends with a few tables for working or catching up!

Yelp
I got the matcha latte. Overall, it was almost like your average matcha latte drink but a bit better. The matcha didn't taste artificial and was paired well with the milk. Unlike most of the other drinks offered by Boba Guys, you can customize the sweetness of the Matcha Latte. I got 25% sweetness and I felt it was the appropriate level of sweetness. While this is a solid drink, I think you are better off spending your money on a different, unique drink. Service: drink was made and ready very quickly after ordering. The servers were nice and considerate. Ambiance: clean inside store, but limited seating. Very homey feeling inside.

Yelp
Another boba guys run! This location is near Hayes, so it's near a handful of restaurants which is pretty convenient. Was clean and easy to find, along with friendly service. I usually get the strawberry matcha drink which is always amazing, but when I went they had some seasonal drinks! My friend and I decided to try one of them: mango matcha. As a mango fanatic, I did really like how I could taste mango throughout the drink and I appreciated the little chunks. As a boba lover though, this wasn't my favorite. The boba got hard as I was drinking it, which was surprising since boba guys usually has good boba!! The mango flavor was also a bit artificial. Overall, 4/5 and i think I'll be sticking to my regular order next time.

Yelp
Great, consistent boba from one of the OG elevators of the classic drink. There's better quality/taste options these days but these guys offer wonderful classics... can't go wrong with a classic milk tea with boba, 25% sweet light ice!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm in love with Boba Guys' classic strawberry matcha latte with boba. Not only is it beautifully presented with the distinct layers, once mixed together, the flavor is unreal. I need to restrain myself to not gulp it down all at once. Boba Guys uses boba produced in the U.S and partners with an organic creamery for its milk. You can taste the thoughtful, high quality ingredients. I also tried a few sips of the Thai tea with boba, and this is a great option for Thai tea lovers. This Hayes Valley location looks unassuming from the outside with just a small sign, and inside it's clean and bright with large windows and a good amount of seating. Guys, you need to come try Boba Guys!

Yelp
Boba Guys used to be the best, but gone downhill a bit. Every location just seems like a product factory, without actual service or atmosphere anymore. They're definitely operating just off their reputation now. I think the owners have moved on to bigger/better things. This location is a bit difficult to access, so I'm not sure why it exists. Nonetheless, I stopped by recently to grab a drink and it wasn't as good as I recall. For every rise of an empire, there is a fall. I won't be back.

Yelp
Have I been to all of the boba guys location in SF yet? It feels like a lot. Anyways, I like trying their seasonal drinks here. This time I got the Sapin Sapin which was good, but it was a bit on the sweet side so I would recommend asking for less.
google avatar

Jacob M.

Yelp
Must-try: their tieguanyin (aka iron goddess oolong) Why visit? there's no shortage of boba shops in SF but I appreciate what they're trying to do being very creative with their drinks and always having variety Protip: get 25/50% sweet, 100 is kind of a lot (but I don't judge)
google avatar

Christina J.

Yelp
The outdoor patio is solid! I liked this tea: Strawberry jasmine Will be back to try the other options
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Warning - they charge you for a 24oz Iced Drink on their app, then give you a 16oz cup when you arrive. When you reach out they ignore your messages.

Yelp
I've gotten boba guys twice so far, the first time I tried the lychee tea. I don't recall how the lychee tea was last time but it was decent, maybe 3.5 stars for that drink. This time I was back for a date and got the strawberry jasmine tea. I asked the worker how sweet it was and she said about 50-75%. I think it is my palate these days but it was way too sweet for my taste. I took one sip and decided I was only going to have a few sips and I didn't want to go through the trouble of potentially asking for another drink or getting a refund. I can't come back again since their sweetness isn't adjustable. It's too American of a boba place for me. whatever happened to the natural sweetness of fruit? Sugar just makes my teeth feel gritty and I feel some kind of residue on my teeth whenever I eat something with a lot of sugar.

Yelp
Boba Guys is one of my all time favorite boba shops, and this is my go-to boba spot in Hayes Valley. Besides all the unique flavors and innovative seasonal menu items offered here, the thing that really stands out with Boba Guys is how perfect the boba pearls are - chewy yet not too hard or too mushy. Personally, I am obsessed with the strawberry matcha latte with boba! If it's your first time ordering this drink, make sure to stir it first before consuming so you get an even mix of all the layers of ingredients. Throughout the years, I've also tried the muscat oolong milk tea, jasmine green milk tea, Hong Kong style milk tea, black sugar hojicha, dirty horchata, and matcha latte, all of which were delicious as well. I've visited multiple Boba Guys locations around SF and the greater Bay Area, and what I enjoy about this particular spot is its consistency in making quality drinks, and there's never a ridiculously long wait (yes, I've been guilty of waiting 40min in line at the Union Square spot before).

Yelp
When you need a consistently good boba drink, boba guys delivers! We ordered online in advance one of the hottest weekend in SF and got it really saved us. The great thing about this location is that it's chill and never has long lines. We got the strawberry matcha latte (classic favorite) and the golden milk (seasonal)! Quality: 5/5 stars Service: 5/5 stars Value: 4/5 stars

Yelp
I was walking from a pizza place to Japantown and decided to stop here for a refreshing drink. My friend recommended that I get the strawberry matcha latte, so I got it but less sweet which just means less strawberry flavoring. I am also very lactose intolerant so I choose oat milk. I didn't get any boba so I can't speak on how good their actual boba is but I enjoyed the drink a lot. The drink was still a little sweeter than I preferred. The inside ambiance is pretty cute and because I went in the afternoon, there weren't too many people inside. Overall, this isn't the best drink I've ever gotten but I enjoyed the drink itself and would definitely recommend trying it at least once!
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
Great spot for boba! I love Thai tea and their Thai tea boba was excellent. We got our drinks quickly and there was plenty of seating available. Overall a solid option for boba!

Yelp
Not sure if it was an off day, but the strawberry matcha I got recently was super sweet despite my request for the option of "less sweet." I've gotten this drink before here and at their other sites (all pre-pandemic) and it's usually pretty good with a balance of sweetness from the strawberry concoction, paired with the sightly bitter matcha flavor. Also, for some reason the server gal that day "helped" shake up my drink, which is fine, but which didn't allow me to just drink the unsweetened matcha part. I did notice there was another strawberry matcha at the pickup counter that was not shaken up and still had it's strawberry & match layers, so really uncertain of why the inconsistency. Anyways, eventually my drink was too sweet to drink, so I ended up using it like a concentrate, and added it to my own matcha.

Yelp
One of the bigger Boba Guys locations in SF with an actual bathroom (one single stall only) and tables and chairs. Friendly staff, delicious drinks.

Yehudi M.

Yelp
Super nice staff and love to stop by to get my matcha strawberry boba!! Hella fast too thank you!!

Yelp
This is the fifth Boba Guys that I've frequented and once again, they truly deliver in quality and taste that is unrivaled by any other major boba chain. I was surprised at first to see how large their location here ended up being. It's two floors with an indoor and outdoor dining area, which is great if you're wanting to chill with friends after a meal. Sadly covid is still preventing any access to these local hangout areas and the restroom, but hopefully that will change soon. This most recent time, I had their Hojicha Milk Tea w/ Boba and Oat Milk, 50% sugar and ice ($7). The roasted green tea goodness was delicious and mixed together with some brown sugar, perfectly cooked boba, and splashes of oat milk simply completed the drink. You can tell a boba shop is good when they prioritize the tea on top of the flavorings that people request. With the vast amount of creative choices, there's more reason to return and try more of their drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
Rating boba shops is very specific to each individuals taste buds... so this is based off my experience. People have been telling me about boba guys, so I finally had the chance to try it. I got the dirty Horchata boba and it was simply something to sip on. The boba wasn't as soft and fun to chew on compared to other boba shops like urban ritual, Tastea, or Feng cha. I don't want to rate the drink itself as it's pretty unique. Never had I ever found a place that served horchata milk tea!! But I was hoping for Cinnamon Toast Crunch boba!! Maybe my expectation was too high. I'm willing to give boba guys another try, but it's pretty average among all boba shops I've been to.
google avatar

Cheri L.

Yelp
The drinks are fine and the location/building is nice. Service is friendly. Bus stop is nearby and convenient. My only issue was when I went, there were two dead flies on the seating area countertop which was off putting. Hopefully they better manage cleaning the area or checking for the flies.
google avatar

Conner C.

Yelp
Super lowkey location in Hayes Valley, so it's been pretty quiet every time I've come, even at peak boba time (after dinner). I believe they just started allowing in-store ordering and in-store pickup -- when I came a few weeks ago, they were still only letting you order and pick up at the window. The store was clean and the employees were friendly. I appreciate the aesthetic, fresh ingredients, and creative recipes that Boba Guys has, but it never blows me away. The boba has good texture, but it doesn't have that sweetness that I think other boba shops do better. The common tea drinks are also pretty standard, and the creative drinks are fun but not mind-blowing. I'll still come here for the quality, but Boba Guys in general isn't the place I recommend to friends looking for a boba spot.
google avatar

Lisa X.

Yelp
I feel like when I go to Boba Guys, I get the aesthetics and I like their merch. I definitely tried. Not the worst, but ain't my fav.
google avatar

Coco G.

Yelp
My first time at a Boba Guys! Delicious and refreshing boba teas: we tried the Lychee Oolong, Strawberry Jasmine, and Berry Hibiscus! Pair those with an ube cookie and you're energized to walk more around town. I wish the ube cookie tasted more of ube, and that the venue had seating. The staff are friendly and helpful and gladly gave me a cup of ice water when I asked. The cups and straws are plant-based and completely compostable. Brava.
google avatar

Lily L.

Yelp
What're in the pics? Mango Sticky Rice (I enjoyed this drink!) Jasmine Green Tea w/ Boba The most famous boba shop in SF. Featured by too many magazines, such as NYT, NPR, WSJ, Vogue Magazine, Eater, and many more. Impressed by how far they've come and kept it up since 2011.
google avatar

Jem T.

Yelp
I'll walk here during my lunch break sometimes and the staff has always been friendly and provided quick service. I have no complaints about my strawberry matcha latte. Plus, their boba is made to PERFECTION; not too chewy and not too sweet. This is my go-to boba spot near SOMA and in Hayes Valley. Even during the lunch rush, the staff is very attentive and makes sure each customer is acknowledged and welcome.

Michelle H.

Yelp
Used to be a fan but on our last visit - DEEPLY DISSAPOINTED! Boba was unedible! Giving 2 stars beacause my husband emailed them to let them know and they were very responsive and refunded us. Hope they get it together soon.
google avatar

Sera Y.

Yelp
The first time coming to this location, I was a little surprised finding it. It's a very nondescript entryway on Haight. The building is half solid gray concrete and half glass window, with just a small aardvark logo to distinguish this from another office building. You also have to order online, you only pick up in person. I got the black sesame boba, and the sesame was really strong (in a good way)! The menu said there was a ginger paste, but I couldn't taste the ginger at all. Boba was also very chewy! My friend got the black sugar hojicha, but to both of us it just tasted like matcha and wasn't that sweet. I had a pretty good experience here and enjoyed my boba, but I still think this place is overhyped. I'll admit the strawberry matcha latte is very aesthetically pleasing and the taste is not bad either, but not so much more so than your average boba shop.

Emily L.

Yelp
I order boba guys from a different location twice a week at least. I love the high quality ingredients and how delicious the classic black tea is. The Hayes Valley location however is really inconsistent with their quality. I always order drinks at 50% sweet, and more then once they've arrived at 100% sweet, making them undrinkable to me (I get sick from so much sugar). I also dislike how their almond jelly has been arriving diced up in tiny pieces, when it used to be in large cubes (imo it's much tastier this way). When you're paying so much for higher quality and standards you'd expect the restaurant to deliver. I really hope the manager checks out the other locations and brings this place up to par.
google avatar

Ying Xin F.

Yelp
We love the strawberry matcha boba here! We ordered online and our order was ready for pick up within 10 minutes. Somehow this location does the boba really well. The sweetness level was perfect, not too sweet. The boba was perfectly chewy. It was so good, we actually went back here to get another strawberry matcha boba, later in the day. 10/10 we were so happy with our strawberry matcha drinks.
google avatar

Gabrielle Q.

Yelp
I love Boba Guys and they seriously have the best flavors. My go-to drink is Strawberry Matcha Latte with Oat Milk and I never get tired of it! I order this same flavor from other places and it never taste anywhere close to Boba Guys. You can actual taste and matcha and strawberry and isn't over powered by the milk. I was adventurous this time and ordered something new; I tried espresso milk tea which taste exactly how it sounds. If you like coffee and milk tea then this is a good drink for you. It was really good, but I will probably go back to my usual order. This was my first time at this location, but I've noticed that their locations are very consistent and drinks taste the same. So great job on training and consistency!
google avatar

Lilly C.

Yelp
We ordered 3 drinks online and arrived to pick them up at the promised ready time, but they weren't made for another 10 minutes after. The location on the corner of a busy intersection with limited parking makes coming to this location pretty inconvenient already. The drinks were on the sweeter side (unable to adjust sweetness), and their boba very firm. My usual strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and boba was consistent with the same drink ordered at other locations.
google avatar

Sophia H.

Yelp
Matcha latte (with 25% sugar and oat milk) was amazing! The 25% sugar level was plentyyyy sweet enough for me, and I think it could've been lowered to even 10% or 15%, but 25% was fine. The taste was sweet yet also earthy, smooth, and creamy. And the boba pearls, wow--they were really soft and fresh. Probably some of the best boba pearls I've ever had. Apparently, this shop makes the boba pearls by hand, so gotta love these homemade pearls!
google avatar

Minah L.

Yelp
Boba guys is one of our favorite boba chains that remains consistent while expanding. Can't go wrong with their classic strawberry matcha oat latte and my newfound favorite-- jasmine green oat milk tea, 0% sweet, and honey boba. The ratio of tea to milk is just right and the subtle sweetness from the boba is the perfect amount for me. I love the floral notes from Tea People's jasmine leaves! Also appreciate their green effort to use compostable bamboo straws (which don't get soggy or rip).
google avatar

Lynda S.

Yelp
When wandering around the city, I try to come by Boba Guys for my boba texture fix! Came by today and it's open for take out online with advance orders placed only. You can doordash or go to their website to order ahead. I was kinda bummed I could not make any adjustments at all - there is no field to adjust online. As soon as I placed my order online standing in front of the establishment, I kindly asked if they could adjust the sweetness on it and was told no adjustments could be made at all. Had I known this, I wouldn't have ordered and tipped online. :( These beverages tend to be overly sweet for me. I always adjust to 0-25% sweetness from any boba place we order from so was extremely disappointed that I would have beverages that I could not enjoy Come prepared for pre-mixed beverages that must be ordered ahead during these covid times.
google avatar

Martin M.

Yelp
I don't know.. the boba guys here is just not good. The wait was extremely long, like over 45 minutes to get a drink and there weren't too many people here. Everyone at the location when I was ordering was complaining about the speed of the drink order and asking for the manager. We got the Mango Tropical Thunder and the Black Sugar Hojicha. Black Sugar Hojicha was definitely a favorite drink we got at other locations. The drinks I supposed should have been better than I got. They were super watery and the taste was extremely off. We waited over 45 minutes for two drinks and couldn't even finish them because they tasted so gross. I'm not sure what's wrong with the Boba Guys at this location (or if Boba Guys in general is just taking a turn for the worse) but the drinks were not good and tasted gross.
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
The staff here is so accommodating and mellow that it's the most chill of the Boba Guys locations. Also quiet because it's dependent on the hyper local traffic including the upstairs residents of what my son and I call The Cheese Grater Building, a brutalist poured concrete multi-unit dwelling with vertical green blinds. I think it was designed by a Starchitect but it's already looking dated. Coming off the Octavia Boulevard freeway exit you might spy an available metered spot on the frontage road. Take it, it's your ticket in. Iced black sesame with almond jelly for me and always something different for littler.
google avatar

Blanche M.

Yelp
I love how boba guys tries to mix up their menu and create something new. They keep up with seasonal fruits and flavors that cater to their audience. Each boba guy store is pretty consistent in flavors so any one you go to, you won't miss out. This location in particularly is right off the freeway. Out of town and headed home? Stop by this location and get your fix. With everything happening with Covid, definitely order ahead and pick up. It might be hard to find parking.
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Honestly pretty innovative for a boba shop! A lot of variety for drinks, bobas were pretty soft yet chewy. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
Service is always so lovely at this location--friendly & efficient. I really enjoyed the drawing I received on my cup this last visit. Strawberry matcha is my all time favorite. Ube Latte is also very delicious (50% sweet or less). Appreciate the variety of nondairy milk options available (soy, rice, etc)
google avatar

Corinne C.

Yelp
The new mango sticky rice drink is BOMB. Just came out as part of their new seasonal special. I wanted something low/no caffeine late in the afternoon and non dairy and this hit the SPOT. Creamy coconut milk, fruity mango, and black sticky rice to add a delicious chewy nutty texture. It's not white sticky rice - it's black rice (think like wild rice) which provides a fantastic chew and texture. Probably best for those who like that sort of texture because it DID weird out my husband but he was happy with his usual strawberry matcha latte :). Can't wait to come back and get this, esp now with the impending boba shortage, so the mango sticky rice drink will be perfect to tide me over til then! Should've gotten a photo but I inhaled it but let's be real, black sticky rice in a drink isn't the most 'grammable look but I'm here for the taste! Staff were super nice and efficient as always.
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
So glad this boba guys is finally open during covid! Only online ordering and they are fast, efficient and clean! Extremely limited menu but I'm just happy they are back.

Yelp
My son and his best friend are Boba Guys fan since they were freshmen in high school. Now they are both in colleges. When they come back to Bay Area, they would have boba teas from Boba Guys. The news that Boba Guys had to lay off workers due to the pandemic saddened us. Then the good news came. Boba Guys Express opened. My son's buddy brought back boba tea for him from SF. He was so happy. Today we were able to pick up orders again. They are well prepared, tasted great as always. They came with tracing ID, super professional. It definitely will be approved by Dr. Fauci, infectious disease specialists and epidemiologists, appreciated by their loyal customers. As for the boba tea, Boba Guys remains to be undisputedly the best! Let's do our part, support great business like Boba Guys getting through this pandemic together.

Yelp
The milk tea at the Hayes Valley locations hits different (even compared to the other Boba Guys in San Francisco). I don't know what they're doing differently but the Classic Milk Tea here tastes SO good. Pro-tip: Get the 24 oz. and ask for no ice so that it doesn't get watered down and then you can save some in the fridge for the next day. Some places are strict about "no ice does not mean more drink" but not the Boba Guys in Hayes Valley!

Yelp
Great place for some boba tea. We got Thai tea with boba and a Matcha latte with oat milk and boba. They had oat milk and I was super happy.

Yelp
Quick Summary: - Lots of tables and chairs - Line isn't as long as the one in Stockton - Wait time is around 15 to 20 minutes, getting your order is another 5 minutes - Chewy sticky boba pearls - Bamboo fiber straws - To quicken the line, decide on an order before you arrive to the counter We found this boba place when we were started to get thirsty from walking around. There was a line, but it contained roughly three groups of guests. Compared to the line length in the Stockton branch, this one I can wait (it's almost as long as the line in my most favorite tea store). The ordering style appears simple but if you decide once you get to the counter, that's where the line grows long. You select the tea type, and then the toppings. Or, one can pick the specialty drinks, which the toppings and tea types is pre-selected (the pretty matcha and strawberry is on this list). I was thinking of trying the orthodox black tea with boba combination, but a poster near the entrance, that displayed the seasonal drinks, caught my attention. It sounded good, especially the hōjicha, so I picked this. Since it was a cold day, I requested "no ice." For those who do select "no ice," the drinks are mixed together, so it won't have the cool layering or design on the tea. The tea was very good! The tea flavor is pronounced in Boba Guys. I can clearly taste the roasted flavor of what I know of hōjicha. The boba pearls were nice too; they were small and chewy. Near the end, there were a few pearls that were sticky and were glued to other pearls. To my surprise, the black sugar didn't make the drink overly sweet. It was almost subtle, or drinking a slightly sweet tea. It was a good experience. On top of this branch having tables and chairs to sit and relax while having tea, I enjoyed having tea here. :D

Yelp
I've only been to Boba Guys once, when I was in Hayes Valley and there virtually no line. Despite the hype, there isn't much that I'd be willing to wait in a long time for. I tried their Taro Milk Tea. A lot of boba places use powdered tea mixes and I'm glad that they use real tea. I had one of those their tea drinks and tried one of their pastries which I believe comes from La Chinoiserie, I had a thai mango croissant which was awesome. They also had some coming by and giving free tastings of their new tea's, which I think for me and my wife is important they have pride themselves in having quality tea. It is pricier than a lot of boba places I usually go to, but I can't argue with the quality. I'll probably give them, again, if there's not a huge line.

Yelp
I love Boba guys, but this location consistently has the shortest lines compared to the other locations. We arrived around 4:30pm on a Sunday and there was maybe...6 or 7 people in front of us? My favorite is the strawberry matcha latte, but it can be on the sweeter side. We also ordered the strawberry fresca, which was on the lighter and more refreshing side. Our drinks came out pretty quick. This location has some seating, but not a lot . Basically a bar with maybe...5 stools? Then I think a couple tables in the back. We ordered the croissubi and matchahuhu. Spell check on both. Croissubi was literally a croissant with Spam baked in the middle. Croissant was good, but nothing special. The matchahuhu was a matcha cookie with black sesame, I think. Definitely stronger on the black sesame. We didn't love it, but if you're a black sesame fan then you'll probably enjoy it more than us.

Yelp
Things I love about Boba Guys: consistency and none of that artificial stuff (oh who am I kidding, I love them artificial stuff!) This particular location has that simplistic yet modern charm to it. Be sure to check out their little sitting area in the back. Ube Halaya: if ube is your jam then ube halaya is the thing to try out at Boba Guys. The coconut-based beverage is a refreshing take on the "regular" taro theme. You actually feel the little ube chunks in the drink. PS: super crowded...
