Here Are the Hottest New Restaurants in the East Bay, June 2024

"Bobby Mac’s BBQ is tucked into the quiet town of Crockett, but already it’s getting attention for its beef brisket, links, spare ribs, and more. Open for brunch, lunch, and dinner, Bobby Mac’s has the barbecue staples down pat, but there’s still more to explore beyond that. Try the jambalaya, crispy boudin balls made with dirty rice and sausage, or a fried pork chop sandwich while you’re there." - Dianne de Guzman

Excellent spot in Crockett from the crew that did Lucia's Craft Sandwich. I've tried their brunch and dinner, and both times had excellent service and food. They also have a nice local wine and beer selection. Note that the seating is generally communal, but even if that's not your vibe, don't let that deter you.

I decided to try out my town’s latest food trend to see what all the hype was about. BobbyMacsBbq did not disappoint. Located in the former Wanda’s Bakery location, the atmosphere was elegant and clean. The entrance is located not at the front door but at the “Side door” , hence the pop up name of bobbymacsbbq out the side door. I honestly like the side door entrance better than the corner front door. So let’s talk food. They have many selections to choose from that all sound very good. But I’m a sucker for a Philly cheesesteak and ive heard nothing but good things about the bobbymacs version! I needed to be the judge for myself. Let me tell you that the smoked brisket cheesesteak on amoroso roll was a nice take on one of my favorites! I knew what I wanted before before I got there, having reviewed the menu through Facebook posts, and decided I would get waffle fries on the side and I enjoyed a large glass bottle of coca cola to wash it down! I did waste a few minutes trying to figure out how to order online. To which I abandoned, I called a few times and no answer. I asked a friend and she suggested just go there. So I did. I was prepared for the hit to my pocketbook, and for the sandwich fries and drink my total came to a whopping 35$ — not something that I could enjoy weekly, maybe monthly. But I had a long day of hauling stuff to dumps, and I worked through lunch and it was perfect time to take a break and get some grub. To my delight the sandwich was an explosion of flavor and smokiness, melted cheese and spicy plus sweet peppers gave it a nice level of heat and I devoured the first half in no time. It was so good and at the end I was determined to finish the whole sandwich. It didn’t look like it but it was a lot of food and I barely got the last bite down! It took me awhile but I finished my food and was satisfied that I got my moneys worth! I have to give the smoked brisket cheesesteak 4 out of 5 crockett rockets!! I can’t wait to try some other meals. I especially liked the welcoming and friendliness that was their vibe. As I walked out a got a thanks for coming from the whole crew I think! Thanks for having me! I’ll be back!

Bobby mac's is amazing!! If you're in this area (or not, I drove 35 minutes) definitely check it out. The flavors work beautifully together and the meat is always cooked perfectly. No matter how far I live I'll always be stopping back here!

Google
An easy five-star experience. The food is outstanding. Portion size is perfect. And price is shockingly amazing. I had the one way, an order of ribs. I love that the ribs were not slathered with barbecue sauce, but barbecue sauce was provided on the side. They didn't need it, because they tasted great. I originally ordered it my two sides as collard greens and seasoned fries. By mistake they brought me out some coleslaw also. Best coleslaw I've had. I'm not normally a coleslaw fan, but I could have eaten two orders of this coleslaw. The collard greens we're unusual but amazing nonetheless. And the season fries could not have been better. The food came out super fast, but it was also super fresh. It was obvious that nothing had been lying around. And the service could not have been beat. Devin, my server, could not have been more attentive and professional. The dining room is bright, spotless, and wide open. Most of the tables are family style tables, but they're large enough where you would not feel uncomfortable dining with the complete stranger. And it wouldn't matter if you were with a complete stranger, because if they're eating here, they're probably a pretty cool person anyway. I can't wait to come back to Bobby Mac's. Oh, and as for Downtown Crockett, I love it. I've always wanted a reason to spend more time in Crockett. It's a fantastic little city only a few miles from San Francisco and Oakland.

Amazing experience, the food looks like the pictures. High-quality experience for a great price. The people working at the front are kind and patient.

Went Friday night. Delicious food! I'm very picky when it comes to a side of Mac and cheese, but this was perfect. Potatoe skin appetizer had a fresh take but it was really good. Catfish tasted just like Mississippi. I can't wait to go back again. They have bigger tables. So it kinda has a "brings your friends and family" cozy feel vibe.

It was my birthday, and being from Kansas City, I decided I would like BBQ for dinner. A former coworker is the Chef at Pixar and posted that a former coworker there was doing BBQ up in Crocket. So off we went. 42 miles. But it was totally worth the trip. We arrived at the end of the dinner rush on Sunday after they served brunch that morning. The host told us that they were running out of BBQ but that they had other options. He said they had received a good review and were unable to keep up with the demand. I have owned a BBQ joint in Kansas City so I totally understand. You need to plan days ahead to increase production. I also learned that they are getting a bigger smoker and until they do they can only produce what they can. OF GREAT BBQ! ARRIVE EARLY!! I saw gumbo on the menu so I would be fine and Nancy loves a good Caesar salad so we ordered that along with a side of potato salad. I mentioned to the host that if there was a piece of the brisket left, I would love to taste it, since I was a BBQ fanatic. The Caesar salad was great. You could smell the anchovy, garlic and parmesan as it came to the table. A proper Caesar - not the usual flavored mayo. The server cleared our plates - properly by asking permission - and then marked the table settings for the next course. Very impressive service that greatly exceeded my expectations. The gumbo was very good with a rich dark roux enriched sauce with perfectly cook shrimp, andouille and chicken. Nancy declared that the potato salad was " just like my mother's" and the host brought out two slices of brisket. One point slice and one from the flat. The brisket had a good bark and smoke ring and perfectly passed the pull apart test. It had the right amount of smoke. Enough but not bitter from over smoking. I can't wait to GET THERE EARLY and try the ribs!

Yelp
All I can say is WOW. I found this place on Yelp on our roadtrip back to Sacramento and it did not disappoint. I called because I have a dairy allergy and the chef went above and beyond to accommodate me. She even sent me a picture of the menu with the items I could eat. The brisket was the best we have had in a long time. We got the lean cut and it was so tender! We also got the brisket tacos. I was pleased to see that there were 5 since they were more street style. The homemade pickled veggies were also a huge hit. We are bummed this place isn't closer to home! Definitely worth the detour. I would have more photos but we couldn't wait to eat

Yelp
I don't know who Bobby Mac is, but I think he is my new hero. 100000/10. Some of the best food I've ever had, and definitely the best BBQ. My husband and I ate in total silence, staring at each other wide eyed with big ol' grins. I knew this place was going to be a gem when I read the review from someone from Kansas City saying the BBQ here was legit, and dang... did he not let us down! Restaurant is ridiculously beautiful. Decor is just my style, there's a great layout with a bar room on a risen level that seems to be waiting to get expanded into. It feels chic, but homey with kitchen tables and mismatched chairs. Service was great, food took a bit to cook (which means it's legit, made for you, zero complaints) and was well worth the wait. The food... THE FOOD!!! My burger was... marinated? I think? It was so crazy, so flavorful, so perfect. My husband ordered a Philly-esque sandwich and I think he died of joy and happiness while eating it. Adding this to my *take me here every day* list =)

Yelp
Okay, first I'll say that their menu has always intrigued me and when my sis said she and hubby were headed there and asked if I wanted to meet them. SURE!! It's street parking and looks kinda sketchy but it's Crockett & part of its charm. It's located down from Lucia's Craft (mighty delicious sandwiches) They had already ordered baked potato skins. Without really looking at the menu, I ordered the fried chicken. WINNING! Cute dining area. Service was outstanding. Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
HIDDEN GEM. The kind of place you want to gatekeep, but it's too good not to share. The smoked brisket cheesesteak is my favorite. The sandwiches are huge and have so much flavor. The fries are seasoned and fried to perfection. And how they're not greasy, I have no clue, but they are delicious. Friendly service and such a cute little spot in Crockett. It's super clean and the interior is so inviting. Will definitely be back and 100% recommend.

Yelp
Looking for a new place to try, I stumbled across their yelp page and we decided to come in and try it out. The inside is really nice and we were greeted and told to pick where to sit. Fried catfish was really good, crispy and cooked perfectly, paired well with the tartar sauce it came with. The mac n cheese that came with the fish was cheesy yummy goodness! And the Brussels were nice and crispy. I snuck a few bites of my sons burger and it was really good, even if he just got it with cheese the meat had great flavor, I would definitely order it with all the fixings. The wings were Smokey and the bbq sauce on them was good. The fries were nice and crispy with good flavor. The staff was really friendly and I would definitely come back to try something else!

Yelp
It's closed. Been closed for months. It is going to be another restaurant now. How much more can I say? It no longer exists as Bobby Mac's, sadly.

Yelp
Ok folks! This is the spot to eat! I'm telling you, it was so delicious. Their name implies it's a bbq joint to me. But their food is elevated soul food plus so much more. Wait staff, AMAZING! Interior design is funky sheik. Super clean and welcoming. Moving on to the stars of the night: Gnocchi 5+ stars Fried Catfish 5+ stars Short rib 5+ stars French fries, yum! 5 stars Chicken pot pie was fresh, with a flaky crust. There may have been chili powder in the gravy. Just fair warning. It's not spicy, just not what one may normally expect. Shout out to East Brothers Brewery. This place is supporting the locals! Gotta love that! Desserts I am going back soon for their Pavlova! Life changing! So sad we shared it 5 ways!Next time, I'm starting with that! Thank you! Thank you! For a delicious dinner & dessert tonight from all 5 of us!

Yelp
First we were caught off guard with the new menu and we thought let's just go and get something else elsewhere. But we decided to give it a try, and boy was I happy we did . I had breakfast 2 eggs and Country potato's and a waffle. Man look the potatoes were seasoned ooooweeeee seasoned good and the waffle was smacking good . Please don't run away. Give them a try

Yelp
So happy to have a bbq joint near home. Easy parking, inside open space, bright and airy. Food was delicious. Tried the Crispy Boudin Balls which were so amazing and full of flavor. Then I had the brisket (moist and tender), ribs and pork sausage along with sides of slaw, mac & cheese (so good!) and baked beans (yum). The only thing I would have like is having more selection of bbq sauce. I wish there a sauce with a little heat to it. The staff were nice, friendly and one even made me an ice tea when they were out of it. He went above and beyond for doing that for me! Sorry I didn't get his name I will definitely come back again. Thank you for a great lunch experience.

Yelp
UPDATED! More food pictures as we have returned a couple more times! Boudin balls are not to be missed!

Yelp
Food: Had the pulled pork sandwich. It's east coast good I haven't had good pulled pork in the Bay Area and this was pretty on point. I could taste a little of the smoke and it was sauced with house made vinegar based sauce. It blended well with the creamy Cole slaw and gave you that umami bite with a hint of buttery bun. Fries were crispy and the tomato bisque was do not miss Inside: warehouse vibe with craft style lighting and southern comfort wood communal tables. Service: Both servers had swag and were on point making me feel welcomed and taken care of. I appreciate being treated well

Yelp
So excited about having an excellent brunch and dinner option close by! We came by after being reminded by a local store and are so happy we did. The service was friendly, the food and drinks were excellent, and the vibe was chill. We ordered the chilaquiles and Benedict, and also a black velvet and michelada. The food was delicious and unique (loved the pulled pork on the Benedict, and radish on the chilaquiles). It was a super pleasant experience and we can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The BEST BBQ I have ever had. The sausage link was literally the most delicious sausage I have ever had in my life. I said that three times during dinner yesterday. Pulled pork and ribs are to die for. Not one bite was dry and they didn't cover it all up in sauce. But the sauce they use is absolutely amazing. Not too sweet or salty like you get at a lot of places. Mac and cheese was great too. As was the Caesar and the ball appetizer thing we had (I forget the name). Dressing is made there so it's authentic and not from a bottle. Nice selection of beers. Casual ambiance. It is a bit of a wait but definitely worth it. We will be back!

Yelp
Enjoyed delicious potatoes, toast, pastrami and egg meal. French press coffee was tasty. Great service. The establishment description on YELP says "Minority -owned & operated". I don't know why we need to know that. The important information is... Enjoyed delicious potatoes, toast, pastrami and egg meal. French press coffee was tasty. Great service. We will visit again.

Yelp
So happy to find a really good food spot near Pinole. hubby and I went 2x in one weekend and ordered the same things because it was so good. He got the cheesesteak and I got the braised short rib over grits. We can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Service Is excellent and the vibe is chill - perfect for a casual date night, group dinner, or even family meal (we brought our toddler both nights). Food:11/10 Service: 10/10 Vibe:10/10

Yelp
New, and upcoming BBQ spot in the East Bay! Came there around lunch expecting BBQ, but they served brunch which was fine with me. Wife ordered the avocado toast and I had the smoked salmon over johnny cakes, both dishes were delicious! Spoke with Randy (one of the owners) and he was very hospitable and top notch service. He noticed the French press looked really grainy, so he took it back and replaced it with a fresh batch of coffee. While the brunch was really good, definitely coming back for the BBQ. Place is not too far from home also!

Yelp
OMG This place is absolutely delicious!!! So happy they're in town ... The food is amazing and made with love! You can tell the chef puts his all into it. My last visit he was handing out these hog head cheese plates for customers to try - it was so good! Everyone enjoyed the food and friendly service from the staff. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful as well! Definitely a place you can bring your family/ friends and enjoy a good meal I've been here multiple times since - and so will you!

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! A hidden gem in Crockett. I was sad to see Wanda's go but am happy to welcome Bobby Mac's! The service was wonderful. Came in for lunch right as they opened and people slowly trickled in for lunch time. Very simplistic menu, I like that they give you options for salad or fries. I tried both and really enjoyed their garden salad which paired nicely with the heavier brisket. I can tell that their meats is the star of the show! I'm not a huge bbq person but I truly enjoyed my brisket sandwich. Their steak plate was also super tasty, we asked for medium rare and it came a little more well but still juicy and tender. Overall very pleased! The space is super nice and I enjoy the communal style seating arrangements. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great service and delicious food! We went in for Sunday brunch and the place was busy.

Yelp
Omg. These wings were packed with flavor. 10/10. We inhaled them before I got a chance to take a pic. They were served with an in house made ranch that was phenomenal. I ordered the lingcod fish filet and it was damn good. Coming back to Bobby Mac's soon. We loved everything.

Yelp
Traveling from Oregon on a Sunday afternoon. Looking for some good soul food. Came upon this little spot near the big C&H factory! Nice cute little town. The restaurant was almost empty except for a family seated. We were greeted nicely and given menus. Took some time to order as the menu we searched online was different from the items we ordered from. Not sure why the menus were so different. I was so looking forward to a meal with salmon as shown online. Since we weren't familiar with the area, decided we had to order something. Our food came out hot which was a big plus! We enjoyed the meal after all because that's all we could do... Traveling & being on the road I must do better in choosing restaurants. Forgot to take pictures of our meals. Both were plated nicely

Yelp
You have to go here and get the chicken I loved it. I had gotten it as a lunch item that a friend had brought to me and I had to compliment the food it was good. I am in Crockett all of the time but usually too late to catch them for dinner. I will skip the other restaurant and go here next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious brunch! Cool location and great ambience! The server was super attentive and fun! The menu options all sounded so good, but I loved my choice of the brisket bowl! Tried friends' French toast (omg the toasted granola!) and shrimp & grits (yum!) Can't wait to go back for dinner-the fried chicken sandwich sounds amazing! Loved everything about this place.

When I tell you EVERYTHING is so good. They come up with special menus and you gots try them all

Yelp
Sunday Brunch at Bobby Mac's was sooo delicious Perfect meal to share after a long walk through Crockett. Johnny cake was 10/10 in presentation and flavor, and the club was amazing but messy ahaha, luckily there's plenty of napkins. Still looks like Wanda's on the inside, but the food is way different. I'm going to have to come back and check out dinner
google avatar

Yelp
First time here and definitely not the last. Top notch service and the flavors were taken to a whole nother level. I am happy to have you here in town. WELCOME!

Yelp
As someone who loves the unapologetic richness and robust flavors of Louisiana cuisine I feel like Bobby Mac's brings something to the area other restaurants only hint at. One of my favorite things about the food in New Orleans and the bayous of Lafayette is that no two places have the exact same take on a dish. The chefs there take inspiration from what was handed down to them from family and community, and find ways to make it their own. In my opinion that's what Bobby Mac's brings to Crockett. Authenticity means being true to the ideas, history and people behind the food rather than having the same 4 things on your menu that everyone might expect you to. The ambiance equally suits a night out or family brunch, and the food is purposeful and delicious. Service is always great as well, so 5 stars all around.

Yelp
Unfortunate things happened here... we came here for lunch in a very hangry mode. We went inside & inquired at the guy at the cashier to be seated, he told us to sit wherever there is available. We got our table & after 10 mins, the same guy served us water- thank you. So while we were checking the menu, we were talking to ourselves if somebody will take our order or we have to go to the counter to give 'em our order--- since this is our first time in this place. So in 10 mins, the same guy took our orders. Hubby wanted fish & chips but they said no more chips... so he ordered the ribs. After 15 mins waiting for out food & after 3 tables has been served, the guy went to our table to say that they have no more ribs.... reason behind was because their CHEF WAS DEAD! I am trying to find the connection behind his reason but I really can't. If he told us that they ran out of ribs which I saw that it was served to 2 tables, we could have understood but to lie to us about it is rude. So we ended up not eating here, so I can't give any feedback on their food. Space is good but the service is slow & I just find it disrespectful that their servers seem to be picking their customers. Even if we would like to support their business, again a very bad experience for my family. We ended up eating at The Dead Fish which we are very happy about!

Yelp
Their hot links are off the chain, nice friendly staff, very clean. Definitely will go back when in the area.

Yelp
This restaurant is in a great location, the customer service is amazing -- very friendly and welcoming. The establishment is clean and the food is delicious! I definitely recommend people to visit them -- nice addition to Crockett.

Yelp
First time customer, found this place on Yelp looking for BBQ. This place has been opened about 4 months. When you go inside there's a couple of large tables set up where 2 different parties can sit @ 1 table, no set up for single, 2 parties or to go orders its go outside or wait inside standing there's also a sectioned off bar area . The cashier & employee were not knowledged on basic questions like how many ribs come with 2-meat combo, what veggies comes w/marinated vegetables & where do I go to wait on food. I got 3 meat combo came w/3 ribs, 3 thick slices of brisket & hotlinks, 2 sides were greens & potato salad & extra side marinated veggies. All were meaty but salty in taste. They only have 1 type of sauce as of now, I ask for sauce on side & given 1 small sauce that has habanero taste but a little watery...The veggies were vinegary taste...To go wait was 30mins. I'll wait a while to go until they get a little more organized..They also apologized for wait & thanked me for being patient.

Niki T.

Yelp
WOWWWWWWW WOW WOW WOW!!! We so desperately NEED this place here! The food was excellent. We had to slip a coin to decide what we were going to eat because everything looked amazing. The chilaquiles was so flavorful, had the perfect balance of spicy and tangy and what tasted like homemade tortilla chips. The hash was also hella flavorful, the bell peppers cooked to perfection , the runniest of egg yolks, bomb toast and we got the horseradish sour cream on the side but best believe it was also delish. Will be returning back to try everything!

Sheryl Y.

Yelp
I had the two way, Pulled Pork and Brisket. Both were tasty and the beef was tender. Mysides were red beans and rice and greens. The greens were a little spicy, but both tasted good. My friend had the chicken sandwich. She said she enjoyed her meal as well. The food did take a few minutes longer than I expected to come out. The servers were friendly and attentive and the space was very nice.

Yelp
This is beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. I had the smash burger which was a good quality burger with seasoned fries. Wife had the pork katsu which was a meal in itself. It's a seasoned fried pork sandwich with kimchi with a flavorful mayo based sauce. Service was excellent. I look forward to trying more of the menu.

Tasty ..

Yelp
This is Real. Here you have a restaurant that cares about what they offer, these are thought-out dishes, higher cuisine disguised as a casual fare. Yes, it's Soul Food/Creole, but with touches of French, East African and Latin. Elevated comfort food that'll make you grateful to have been welcomed to the BBQ.

Steve G.

Yelp
My wife and I went to Bobby Mac's for lunch last week and loved it. We had scrumptious spare ribs and pulled pork, complemented by four sides: collared greens with bits of what I recall being smoked turkey, mixed greens with a red wine vinaigrette, potato salad and cole slaw. All were excellent. On the table there's a slightly vinergary BBQ sauce (as well as a hot sauce) that you can add to the meats. I loved the tender, practically fall-off-the-bone ribs and pulled pork both with and without the sauce. Except for the potato salad, the sides (even the collared greens with smoked turkey) were a bit lighter than I'd expected (though all hearty helpings), which I mean as as compliment in view of the meaty mains. I'm a pretty big eater, but took home parts of my two-way ribs/pork plus sides because I couldn't finish all of it. Maybe it's because I was eating lunch rather than dinner, which is when my appetite really warms up. But my point is that the meals are pretty substantial. Service was fine, friendly and informative. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This place is top tier! Went for Mother's Day and did not disappoint. I had chicken and waffles and it's the best I've had. Chicken seasoned well and the waffles were amazing. My oldest had the burger and he devoured it and my mom had the shrimp and grits! We all left full and satisfied and cant wait to return. Not only is the food bomb but the owner is amazing too! Very friendly and walked around to each table making sure everyone was good. And it's super cute inside!

Yelp
Lovely meal tonight at Bobby Mac's! All was perfect: - potato skins - Caesar salad - halibut - catfish - mac and cheese All elevated dishes and super yummy!

Yelp
This place is amazing and legitimately the only place worth eating at in Crockett unless you go to their sandwich shop next door -Lucia's. Quality ingredients, stellar soul food, bitchin BBQ, and amazing staff that actually care. Let's support small businesses that know how to do food RIGHT.

Yelp
Food was delicious and service was great! Plenty of seating options as they combine spaces with the sandwich spot next door. The portions were generous and overall vibes were good. We'll definitely be back- it's lovely to have a chill spot to visit in Crockett!

Yelp
Service was awesome, but they had no beef! I mean none as in no brisket ,no ribs no meats! Had a bowl of over priced gumbo. First and last time.

Yelp
First time trying Bobby Mac's on Saturday. Went with a large group. Table was set and ready when we arrived, service was fast and friendly. The food. Hands down amazing! I ordered the soft shell crab sandwich, I'm hooked!! Amazing fresh flavors, the old bay aioli was killer!!! Loved it. Friends ordered the shrimp and grits, it was some of the best I've had! Go check them out! 5/5!
