Bobby Van's Steakhouse has been a staple for over 20 years, and the food consistently meets high standards. While the quality of the meals is reliable, the service leaves much to be desired, as servers can come across as rude or unfriendly. On a positive note, the busboys stand out for their efficiency and pleasant demeanor, adding a touch of warmth to the dining experience. Overall, it’s a mixed bag: great food but lacking in hospitality.

Last week we dined at Bobby Van’s for restaurant week dinner. It was excellent! Loved escargot and baked clams as appetizers. Escargot was better than ones I had in Paris! My husband’s steak was excellent. I ordered special fish which was Icelandic Cod. Wow, it was out of this world!!! Fish was firm, but flaky and cooked perfectly with quinoa & vegetables. Loved texture and flavor. Portion was big on every dish. Host, waiter and bus staff were all friendly and professional. We’ve been to ones in the city and the airport locations, but now this will be our favorite spot in the Hampton. We came back for a quick bite at the bar this week. Happy Hour deal was incredible. We had oysters (which was so fresh), Kobe beef sliders, lobster roll sliders and steak quesadillas. Beer, wine and cocktail options are excellent! We really enjoyed dining at Bobby Van’s and will definitely come back soon.

Cobb salad chicken was terrible - like dry discusting old pieces of chicken “ the chicken in the photo is not the horrible crumbly chicken from Bobby vans - this chicken is from bahama breeze in Stonybrook - warm moist super delicious - complete opposite of what I was served at this place —-- tell the chef to go to bahama breeze or Wendy’s and order the salad and try the chicken / then stock up a few for the restaurant that way if I come back make sure to carefully remove the contents of the Wendy’s delicious moist perfectly made chicken Cobb salad and place it on my plate and have the fine nice waiter bring that to me which is 1000 percent fresh and delicious - I’m serious - someone else commented the same a few posts down - other then that the service was great - tiramisu would be nice on the menu for desert but hey it’s not my place - we will return - just fix your chicken problem or take it off the menu - please - thanks

Google
Overall had a nice atmosphere. Nothing extremely fancy but still cozy. The service was amazing and our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the dishes and drink options. The food was alright, the meats we ordered were slightly overdone and the creamed spinach was slightly sweet. Our oysters were fresh and the soup of the day was our favorite dish along with the chocolate ganache for dessert.

Google
Big serving portion. I like the whole fluke and mushroom side. Just Fluke fish is a little plain to me. The crab salad dressing is too sweet for me and the fried bacon and cracker are not healthy for me. Baby rib tastes good. I like the spinach is USDA certified organic. I like the banana split desert with chocolate ice cream. Overall good but not great

Google
WORST espresso martini- tried to send the sugar martini back. My request was denied. They make awful drinks!!! Steak was over cooked. I thought this was a steakhouse. The only correct thing they did was open a bottle of wine. Wow! Nice job Maria! Then refuse to take care of the disgusting mistakes. Gag. Ill never be back thats for sure.

Google
I feel really bad writing this as it was also a holiday weekend when we ate there. It was incredibly loud we could not hear each other. The drinks we ordered the bartender didn’t put alcohol in at first so that was also an issue. My Caesar salad was hot, gross and the didn’t put dressing on it just cheese. They forgot our shrimp cocktail multiple times and we kept reminding them. Steak was both rare and overdone at the same time and not warm. My friends steak salad was horrible and none of the food was brought out the right time. Restaurant was also so hot we kept having to go outside to cool down. French fries were brought out cold too.

We've been coming here every year for mothers and fathers day and it's always been awesome, but on our last Father's Day brunch the waiter wasn't very attentive. The bus boy that was serving the food just dropped the food on the table. The roast beef in my mom's Au Jus was spoiled so badly it smelled and the waiter got defensive about it. He thought my mother was lying but then smelled it himself in the kitchen and came back and apologized. Good on him to do so, but the damage was already done. I also observed him with the other tables in the restaurant and he was very cheerful and upbeat. But we didn't get that same energy from him. I think if you decide to go here or any restaurant how the waiter conducts themselves with the patron's makes a big difference. But in general the food here is really good. If you find the energy is off with the waiter and they're not attentive I would move to resolve it right away with the manager.

Yelp
Really nice meal. Acoustics were fine but we sat in the corner by the window. Was very dim, so needed my iPhone light. The service was very good but a little off in terms of timing... by way of example, I would imagine it's a good idea to take dinner orders whilst patrons are enjoying their appetizers. The Thai calamari was a show stopper. Perfectly crunchy--not oily--and the perfect amount of sauce that was delicious mix of peanuts and spicy Thai sauce. Perhaps the best calamari I've ever had. The roast chicken entrée too was probably one of the best roast chicken I've had in a long time. Perfectly crisped skin, moist and the juices were delicious. The vegetables were well cooked and tender but not mushy. The Caroline salad was stupendous! Plentiful and well proportioned ingredients. Exacting amount of dreaso

Yelp
So disappointing... nothing went right . From drinks , to service. Missing things on orders cold food order is not fulfilled properly. Specials not explained properly will not be returning to this establishment. Sadly, the Hamptons does not have enough steakhouses.
google avatar

Yelp
We were denied service at Bobby Vans simply because we had a service animal--an outright violation of ADA law. To make matters worse, the host claimed they were "out of pretzels" while we watched a fresh pretzel come out of the kitchen just 10 minutes later. Discriminatory and dishonest. Shameful behavior from a place that should know better.

Mark R.

Yelp
Food was great Service great Ambiance was a problem as it is sooo loud it makes everything else feel less good. You would think sound barriers would be more effective

Mary C.

Yelp
My worst experience in a long time, I ordered the rigatoni, and I don't understand what ingredients they used, it didn't taste good, it was bitter at the end and the heartburn I had all night wouldn't let me sleep, an option I would never recommend in Bridgehampton

Yelp
Was well worth the trip from New Jersey Great food and Great Friends. Deserts were amazing. But little Pricey for lunch

Yelp
Another great meal ... lunch ... in the Hamptons. Seated promptly (reservation was helpful). Crowded inside, but comfortable. Server was excellent; all staff were friendly and efficient. The food? Delicious. Clams on the half-shell a nice start. But, the linguine with mussels and clams ... wow! Fantastic dish. Loaded with fresh tasying mussels, whole clams, and chopped clams, and the pasta was tasty too. My wife and our friends enjoyed their fishes too. Really good lunch!

Yelp
Good food with mediocre service. We had our drink orders screwed up multiple times. They brought our main course without bringing forks after taking away our forks with the appetizers. I asked for a beer and they brought me an iced tea. After repeating my beer order, he said he remembered me ordering a beer. Then I repeated my beer order and the waiter said they didn't have that beer. How is it you can remember a customer ordering a beer and then not bring a beer... I am so perplexed. The Chili Calamari was fantastic. 5/5 The Sirloin steak was pretty good.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant. Delicious steaks, salads, brussel sprouts are a standout. Great bar.

Yelp
The place was packed by Steve, very professional maitre'D got us in (outside prime), and Hersch, expertly and efficiently, served us, clams casino, delicious mashed, colossal crab, charred fresh broccoli.

Yelp
We had a nice dinner here on Sunday night. I had the French Dip sandwich and it was delicious. It tasted like French Onion Soup on a sandwich. The bread was crunchy. So it's definitely need the "jus". The Jus was quite tasty and not too salty. I would recommend. My friend had the Surf & Turf, which he enjoyed. The steak was cooked perfectly, as it should be since Bobby Vans is known for their steaks. My girlfriend had the Chicken Milanese. She said it was just OK. The breast needed to be pounded a little thinner. It looked like a big thick chicken breast. Not at all appetizing looking but I would probably not have ordered chicken at a steakhouse. Service was great. Overall, it was a very nice experience. I would come back. I hope the chef revisits the chicken preparation. I've had this type of chicken at any number of restaurants and La Parma probably does it best. If the manager happens to read this review, check out La Parma's version of it and bring it to BVs.

Yelp
Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton bar experience still remains one of a kind in the Hampton's says this author and Forbes writer. The Dirty Bobby is a treat to be savored with all of its blue cheese deliciousness as is the espresso martini. A quick ticket to the rocket ship sometimes needed for the moon. While George is as curious as his name origin story implies. TJ is the real star as the drinks he pours make that initialed moniker stand for something-true joy. Visit BVs but make sure you go when the two lettered wonder is in the house.  Thx for a great day

Yelp
I've been to Bobby Vans in the past and was not wowed by my dining experience. This recent Friday evening dinner was much more satisfying. We started with the clams casino which was good. Not great. The shaved Brussel sprouts salad was soo tasty. I was very happy with this dish. We also ordered the fried calamari. Nothing spectacular but I did enjoy the crispyness of the calamari. The Porterhouse for 2 was cooked perfectly. Seared on the outside and slightly pink on inside & added a side order of whipped potatoes. Our waiter was very attentive and the food came out quickly although the restaurant was busy. I'd definitely visit again.

Yelp
Came to try out Bobby Vans after work. Great Martinis and local oysters. The hostess was a little strange. While she was in the phone, she's used a hand gesture of shoo us away - directing the other hostness to sit outside. Not a big deal but also weird. The table and chairs they sat us at were on a huge slant as well. The initial vibes were deff questionable but thankfully our server and the food made up for the experience.

Yelp
I'm surprised at only 3 stars. Although we only come a few times each year the food and service has always been great. I always order the French dip, baked clams and shrimp cocktail. It's always excellent

Yelp
They charge you to use your credit card, but don't tell you. I handed my credit card to my server, he did not tell me there is a service charge. Not going back.

Yelp
I enjoyed my experience at this restaurant Bobby Van's steakhouse with my hubby. I had a delish egg Omelette with tomatoes, feta and spinach. All the ingredients were fresh that blended well with the eggs. The home fries were all fresh with delightful seasonings. Of coarse I had a delightful ice coffee with that kick I needed to hang out for the day. My husband said his Philly steak was amazing it full of flavor not greasy extremely yummy for the tummy. He added his fries were crispy made with perfection. The service at the establishment was excellent the outdoor dining experience was very positive.

Yelp
Very disappointed! Reserved a table outside 2 days in advance. The snobby, college aged, blonde hostess tells us we don't have a reservation for outside and can only accommodate us in a very small table inside, behind the hostess stand. The noise was ridiculous!! The food was mediocre and the service was disappointing as well. Been coming here for years so this was an unpleasant surprise. * Andrea (owner) leaves a comment about trying them again, but doesn't leave a phone number where she can be reached. I did attempt to call but was told she's "not available". I'm not sure if the business has changed hands but it's being run very unprofessionally.

Yelp
My husband and I came for dinner during the summer and had a beautiful evening dining outside with our dog, who the restaurant was very welcoming of - brought her a water bowl and everything. We shared the shaved brussel sppourt salad to start, which was quite delicious - lots of different fresh flavors and vegetables. The red opinion and walnut vinaigrette offered nice contrast to the sweet flavors. We then shared mashed potatoes and broccolini side. I ordered opinion rings for myself because my husband couldn't eat those due to his gluten allergy. We also each ordered a filet, mine was the smaller portion with the lobster tail. It was cooked very well and the lobster was delicious. It is not an inexpensive meal, but you get what you pay for for the location and it's a solid choice.

Yelp
Bin going there for 30 years Food is always very good ! and they're very consistent. Table cloths would be nice.

Samantha H.

Yelp
The staff was kind and very professional. The food was great and it came out decently quick. Very serious vibe you get from the place but nice either way. I enjoyed my time very much

Yelp
We decided to spend a nice fall afternoon in the Hamptons and capped it off with a late lunch at Bobby Van's. We had a wonderful time and a wonderful meal. The oysters Rockefeller were the best I've ever had. We also had an Ahi Tuna salad and the Filet Mignon both were amazing. The service was prompt and friendly. Overall a great experience.

Yelp
The bad news -why haven't I been coming here for the past 25 years? The good news - I came here yesterday :) I'm not sure why we have never eaten here but after visiting the museum yesterday afternoon we decided to check it out. We had called previously, enquiring about Easter and the gentleman on the phone was exceptionally friendly so it left a good impression. Upon calling on our way to the museum the same (I think) gentleman answered and could not have been nicer. He was very accommodating and friendly as was our server, Rachael. The young man who delivered our food as well as the young lady who pointed me in the direction of the bathroom were also very nice. For me, this is a huge part of the overall dining experience . The food was also outstanding. We shared a beautiful shrimp salad appetizer and both had the 8 oz filet (they were actually more like 10 or 12 ounces). I had a wonderful mixed green salad as my side while my husband opted for the fries (I didn't try them because I needed my valuable stomach room to devour the incredible steak I was served but my husband said they were as good as McDonalds.... Which all rational, honest, and unpretentious people know is the fry benchmark). We took an excellent cheesecake to go because I was insanely full. We enjoyed it later on. I would have attached pictures but I was too busy eating my perfectly cooked beautifully charred steak. Maybe next time :).

Yelp
Service is personable, food is fine, adequate and filling. Not exactly a white table cloth restaurant, but I appreciate the effort regardless, of creating a nice table setting.

Bruce S.

Yelp
Great food, great service and great staff.they always provide a great setting and food is always served in a timely manner if there a few of you come in with a large group anx thete is always something on menu for everyone.

Yelp
Was really happy to have gone here mid week in the winter, Wednesday night, got some nice food and bar atmosphere ! My gf liked the Asian chicken salad and I loved my Shepard pie! Had a great dessert , was chocolate moose with ice cream! Bartender was lovely and great service. I highly recommend

Yelp
Wow - what a disappointing, overpriced, utterly without shame of a ripoff dining establishment this is in Bridgehampon. Aside from absolutely lovely service (our server was amazing), every single thing we ordered was either affirmatively bad or blandly mediocre. BEWARE OF ANYTHING OTHER THAN STEAK - it will be bad. If you stick with basic steak you'll still be disappointed, but not outraged as I was after the worst mahi mahi I've ever had. My brother sent back the porterhouse pork special which was a horrible use of some poor pig's life. Even the basic flourless chocolate cake was inedible. Better bet: save your money and grill at home.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a reservation on 8/21/23 on the patio that was not honored. The hostess offered us a table inside and the experience between the poor customer service and noise made for a disappointing experience. The food is not the same standard it once was either. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Nasty , rude and food is terrible . If you have attitude at least have good good. . Not worth it.

Lynn C.

Yelp
Went there on a Wednesday afternoon 3 of us about 2:30, it wasn't crowded or busy at all. We got seated and given menus. I asked if they had any lunch specials and he said to ask the waiter when he comes over. So the waiter comes over, offers us water, I decline, so did one other sister. He asked if we wanted a drink, I said not yet. He leaves. Never to return! we sat there for a while just waiting for the waiter to come back. The host knew as he was sitting at the bar on his phone, and did nothing. So after what seemed an eternity, we got up and left! I told the host that the waiter was rude for letting us sit there when he had nothing else going on. Not going back there again.

Sara J.

Yelp
we had an amazing steak dinner and our server Jessica was amazing she went above and beyond for us and we noticed she did that for all of her tables . we have been going for years and happy to finally have a friendly server!!

Yelp
Came for lunch and sat outdoors with our dog. The food and service was so good! We got a burger and the French dip - both great with food fries too. Good Bloody Mary. Friendly waiter.

Yelp
We have been eating here for over 27 years and have always loved it. Our experience this past week was EXTREMELY disappointing. Zack our server was FANTASTIC. He always aims to please. I would give him 10 stars. I ordered the Niman ranch baby back ribs. I order it every time. Wow this time they were not baby back - They looked tasted and were St. Louis ribs. They were thick and very chewy in their consistency. If Vans purveyor changed then I would have liked to be told that this time the ribs changed. Like I stated- 27 years dining there. My husband wanted me to send them back but I am not that type of person. We are going to pass dining here for a while.

Crista M.

Yelp
I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. it was inedible as the cut of chicken was not right for sandwiches and the breading was mush. the fries were over cooked to the point of no potato, just a fried shell. it made me sad. I would have ordered something else but our server never came over to ask how everything was. go somewhere else!

Gus A.

Yelp
Had a great lunch. Sat at the bar. TJ our bartender was outstanding. Truly an enjoyable meal. Soup, steaks, vegetable sides. Friendly conversation. It was everything I needed. I'm hooked
google avatar

Chuck E.

Yelp
It was ok. Overpriced for sure. Always knew about it, but never partaked. I'd go back, maybe if someone else was paying. Only game around (steaks) in my humble opinion.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting out east for the weekend. Disappointed is an understatement - service and restaurant were fine. The food was awful for a place with a reputation and these prices. My wife's filet was dry charred and just not good. Escarole was also not very good. Linguini shrimp scampi was just ok - But on a positive note the Caesar salad was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Sadly, after 26 years we are leaving Bridgehampton. Confession, almost never ate here, wife with the JULIETS did every other week while I with the ROMEOs ate at the Corner Bar in Sag Harbor. Every Thursday for most of that time I ate at Candy Kitchen next door with the CAUCUS. Had maybe my last lunch with that group at Bobby Van. Had the best Reuben sandwich (equal to Tweeds in Riverhead) and the other two items ordered by friends were equally good. Prices were comparable to Candy Kitchen.

Yelp
We've been fans of Bobby Vans for decades. Always loved the food, the drinks, & the vibe. Because of the pandemic we hadn't had the opportunity to patronize the resturant for quite a while. We returned in August & dined outdoors for lunch. I ordered a medium rare burger that came out well done. My wife & I were in a the midst of a wonderful day so rather then ruin the mood I ate it. Awful! Like eating charcoal. She enjoyed her salad though Our friends suggested we dine there Sat night. I had trepidations because of my last experience as well as other recent yelp reviews. The meal was EXCELLENT!!!! Oddly enough, no one had steak. My friend had chicken pot pie that had huge strips of chicken. Loved it. Both of our wives had the ribs which have always been a can't miss dish. I stepped out of my comfort zone. I had hash. Yes, hash. It had huge pieces of lobster & fillet mignon surrounded by potatoes & vegetables topped with fried eggs. It sound hideous but it was one of the most flavorful meals I've ever eaten..... there or anywhere. The service was spot on. Would have been better if the staff wore masks but why sour the review. (Waiter said he was triple vaxxed) If I was able I'd deduct a 1/2 star for mask ignorance but everyone has different comfort levels. So the review ( I'm discounting the terrible burger) is a five.

Leslee H.

Yelp
The food is pretty mediocre. The service is a little better than mediocre. There were ants crawling on the wall near my table. Ick

Yelp
Terrible.... End of story (yelp says this needs to be 85 characters..... so I'll say don't waste your money or taste buds )

Yelp
This is my first review in a long time. I had to address this and save others from a big bill and subpar food. Been there quite a few times early in the season hoping that the food would get better and maybe It was a bad day in the kitchen. But, after too many tries, i've given up. This time around, the salmon was fishy and returned for the chicken paillard which is thick and greasy. The filet mignon was way under cooked and just didn't taste right. They flashed it and brought it back but the taste was wrong. The meat quality was horrible. I asked the busboy to take it away and he saw that I ate 3 bites. The waiter and the maitre were talking in the corner looking at me. They knew the steak was not up to snuff but choose not to address. I guess the price was worth losing a customer who spends a lot going out for dinner often. I decided that this was my last visit and did not bother to address. I have to say that this BV's is the most overrated restaurant in all of the Hamptons. The food is a 6-7 at best. Many many places in Bridge, East, Amagansett and Sag that are worth the time and money and care about the food, presentation and customer. Don't get caught up with the name. Not for foodies!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
This was our first time here. They were super accommodating about our outdoor seating request. I highly recommend the French dip. The meat was cooked perfectly and the grilled onions the perfect topper. Salad dressing was amazing as well. Staff and server were gracious and polite. Overall will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I have driven by Bobby Van's multiple times but lacked any enthusiasm to return after the nasty lobster. Will give them another try to experience a real five star lobster roll à la Bobby Van., but only with a make up for my dismal experience with a comp or gift card, and would e happy update my review.. the memory of chomping down on a large piece of hard lobster cartilage in a puny uninteresting lobster roll was just that gross! As wonderful a waiter Carlos was, he really should have tried to make things right when we pointed out the very disappointing lobster roll to him.

Yelp
We have been going to Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton as well as Manhattan for years. We like both venues and love the food at both locations. Not the least expensive but usually well worth it. Since I tend bar at two Restuarant's we prefer to sit at the bar and chat up the bar tender as well as meet ok'd and new friends. Our favorite lunch item there is the French Dip which is made differently compared to many but super as well as their thin cut fries. We are hoping that the off season Happy Hour will come back but are fine paying full price to enjoy the place. So today we decided it was time for a lunch at the Bridgehampton location. Now for why I posted so much positive to now turn negative. We arrived and walked up to the bar where there were 6 opeb seats. 2 of which were being held by one person for two other people that had not yet arrived. I understand this but don't like it and that is why so many Restuarant's require that everyone in a party be there before being seated. But then there were 4 individual seats open that could have had one of only 4 patrons move one seat over to allow us to be accommodated. The bar tender on duty who appears to be new as I have never seen him before stood there with his hands on his hips and said nothing. One patron declined to love when asked nicely by me if he would and still the bar tender did not say anything to the other people that could have help us get two Sears together. I regularly do this where I bar tend and always buy a drink for who ever moves to help me. So we left. We drink when having lunch out and run up good size tabs. The Restuarant lost two paying lunches and the bar tender lost a significant tip because as a bartender and especially during COVID recovery we normally eat over tip. After a little Google searching and a 8 mile drive we had got our French Dip at another Restuarant, (though not as good) and our money.

Corrado M.

Yelp
Where is the Bobby Vans of years ago? The barman is the same, very good on his job Taking care of the regulars, but what about the food? How can you serve escargot with melted cheese on top? Do you want to insult the french cuisine? The lady next to me had a sole ( Dover? I doubt) Any way it was too fishy and soaking in liquid I am tired to see in every restaurant , burger, fried potato, meatballs, fried calamari and now guacamole and fajita too!!! Can we be more inspiring, since we are so good on raising the price on the menu?

Yelp
Best steak anywhere in the Hamptons. Everything great: salads, sides, service. Always a favorite.
