A Guide to Nashville’s Best Dive Bars | Eater Nashville

"Bobby’s Idle Hour re-opened in a new location just a block down from its original digs back in 2021 and has stayed true to its dive bar roots ever since. Live music is the name of the game here, but don’t expect any frills when it comes to drinks and snacks. It’s can-service only with just a few bags of chips and peanuts to keep you fueled throughout the night — a dive bar through and through." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Bobby’s Idle Hour, Music Row’s Iconic Watering Hole, Pours Last Beer This Week | Eater Nashville

"Occupying its second location on the same block at 1028 16th Ave. S., Bobby’s Idle Hour Tavern has welcomed countless songwriters to Nashville’s Music Row since before it was even called Music Row; truly one of the last pieces of 'old Nashville,' it's the final venue left for live original music on Music Row, with entertainment seven nights a week and most afternoons. The tavern announced on Facebook that its final hour is Saturday, January 12, after the building was set to be demolished in mid-2018, though the post hinted “we’ll be resurfacing as soon as we can in a new location.” I hope some semblance of the bar’s rich history—especially the stage, the signs, and the dollar bills—can be preserved if and when it reopens, because it seems Music Row’s charm will be diminished come January 12." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Old school dive bar where you can find amazing musicians playing almost every night. Bobby's is one of the last remnants of what Nashville bars were before country music celebrities bought up everything on Broadway. The atmosphere is relaxed, the beer (and it's just beer) is cold and the bartenders are friendly. Weeknights are not too busy so you can strike up a good conversation. Weekends might be a bit more of a jam session vibe. Bring a dollar to put on the wall, but they do accept cards now. Prices are affordable especially for this area of town. Food comes out of a microwave and the best thing on the menu is probably the bag of popcorn. Drink selection is a mix of 12 oz and 16 oz domestics some white claws and maybe a craft beer or two all in cans or bottles. This is in no way a brewpub or craft beer on draft type of place. Visit for the throwback vibes and top notch country music.

The bartender was very friendly. The atmosphere was cozy. Great little bar.

This is what I imagine when I think about what country and western music should look like. An unpretentious local bar, no frills, a good beer selection and phenomenal traditional, old school, from the heart no-bro country music. I’ve visited Nashville several times and never made it over here; I’ll never make that mistake again. Bobby’s will be my go to spot.

Such a cool little dive bar. Just off the beaten path in Nashville. My Airbnb host recommended this place and made sure to let me know ahead of time that they only serve beer, which was not a problem for me. The parking lot is small and tight and the bar inside is exactly what I expected. A well-worn country bar. There are plenty of things to look out on the walls which add to the atmosphere. This place. I got there just after the music ended, but they have a cute little stage right in the front with a giant guitar hanging over it. The owner took a little while to warm up, but once you get him talking he's a really great guy. This is totally my kind of bar and I will absolutely go back here next time I'm in the area. They also have a surprisingly great selection of craft beer.

Make sure you go when there is live music. We went on a Friday night at 9pm. Music was finished for the night already. The bartender barely acknowledged our presence. I'm sure the place is fun when there is music, but it wasn't worth the visit for us. Oh... The food selection consists of some microwavable frozen stuff.

Found Bobby’s somewhat randomly tonight in an effort to get out and see Nashville away from Broadway. Ended up being a night some locals had gotten together to celebrate a recently passed friend by passing the guitar around and playing some music. Spoke to a few of them and felt welcome. Glad I stopped on.

Terrific dive bar with cold drinks and quick service. Board games in the tables. Shot and beer specials. Started getting crowded around 930 pm Saturday when we left. They have a food truck where you can order burgers and stuff. We didn’t try it. Be careful paying for parking it came up 5 hours for $31 when we scanned the QR code.

Recently in Nashville and found this hidden gem away from all the tourist spots on Broadway. Nice clean, dive bar with cold beer and great original music!!! I will be stopping again next time in Nashville.
