Boba + Teddybear = Bober!! Bear ears on cup covers :)
Bober Tea & Coffee shop opened recently at an area called Grantville, which I was not too familiar with so it was a bit of a mini road trip to get there. Free parking at the back lot but the spaces were tight.
It's been years since my trip to Singapore. Was thrilled the Singaporean based shop opened and wanted to try Bober.
The shop is new, clean and decor was cutesy but the common trend seen everywhere: with faux flower walls, neon signs and modernish seating throughout. Indoor & outdoor seats.
Kid and pup friendly. And it is only CASHLESS
No cash accepted, all orders and payments are via kiosk tablet, easy and efficient, but there are only 2 tablets and some peeps are indecisive slow and the line of peeps get impatient, self included :/
Was only interested in trying the Okumidori matcha latte and the black sesame Mochi donut and that's what I got.
Okumidori matcha was made with premium ceremonial grade matcha, I added brown sugar boba pearls and 75% sweetness. Would have preferred Non Dairy: coconut almond soy or oatmilk options. Presented quickly and topped with the teddybear ears cup cover and a pink straw was picture perfect. After a few sips, the matcha latte drink fell short of my expectations, as there was barely any taste, the drink was not as chilled cold as I preferred, the brown sugar boba pearls were good but not good enough to merit a repeat order. I would be interested in trying the fruit based iced teas, hope those are better.
Black sesame Mochi donut seemed like the healthier option to chose from the display case of colorful donuts. The blackish glaze wasn't overly sugary sweet but the dough was not the best, it seemed to almost fall apart while I held it with my fingers and it was messy... :(
The behind the counter staff Sarah was helpful, nice and answered my questions particularly about the mochis, she suggested the black sesame.
Went there around 1:30ish and it was crowded with kids? Not sure about possible nearby schools but I hate crowds, waiting in lines... especially for a subpar drink and treat. This new shop draws in kids who were more interested in the promo surprise cup gift that comes with some drink orders. A mini stuffed animal inside the surprise cup is synonymous to the toy inside a crackerjack box, or a toy in a happy meal!
I wasn't interested in a surprise toy gimmick, I was interested in a premium japanese ceremonial matcha drink but this was lackluster...frowning, not smiling teddy bear
Do Better Bober!
The Okumidori matcha drink and Mochi donut both earns 2 stars, but for the new clean, efficient and nice staff a generous 3 stars.
