Bob's Country Corner - Review - Menlo Park - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This family-run deli and market has been a Menlo Park staple since the early ’90s. The tri-tip steak sandwich—thinly sliced steak grilled in-house and piled generously high onto your choice of roll (we go for the dutch crunch)—is juicy and smoky, but the turkey-avocado club hits just as hard. Grab a side of their housemade potato salad and a cold soda or iced tea from the fridge, and you’ve got the kind of lunch that never goes out of style." - Gabi Moskowitz

We paid $9 for 2x normal big non-brand water and 1 coke. Terrific high prices!

When I pulled up to this location there were trucks galore parked all around the surrounding area. There was a line of blue collar workers about 15 deep. I order their pulled pork sandwich and it was great. Also, their potato salad was the very best I've had at a deli. What a gem of a location and my go to spot for lunch when I'm in the area.

Google
The store is very well-stocked, clean, and competitively priced. Great selection of snacks, drinks, and miscellaneous pantry and household items. Their deli has tasty sandwiches made with care. The location is super convenient if you're on the West Menlo/Sharon Heights/Oak Creek side of Stanford. Overall, it's a great place to shop and support a family-run small business :)

Best Sandwiches on the Peninsula, with an awesome family running it.

I grew up going here as a kid to get the meatloaf sandwich on Dutch crunch. It’s still amazing! Every time I go back home to the Bay, I have to stop by.

Google
I had a pastrami sandwich with everything and it was awesome. It was made very quickly and was a decent price.

10am on a Sunday and closed. Would be good to keep the opening times when people are waiting.

Love the sandwiches from here. Great spot to stop before going on a hike.

Yelp
Well where do I start. 20 years ago I was in the area working (hvac) and was around lunch time. I was kind of hesitant about grabbing something to eat here because the way that is building looked. So I gave it a shot as I walked in there was a long line i was telling myself this place it must be really good. I ordered a chicken is sandwich with jalapeno dutch crunch this how to be the best sandwich place i've ever eaten every time I was in the area and made sure I grabbed me a sandwich or I would bring back another sandwich for the wifey The owners were so cool. Unfortunatly the husband and of the brothers died May they rest in peace. I would highly recommend you trying this place for lunch.Believe me who will not regret it

Yelp
Ordered a couple sandwiches from here. We definitely went during the lunch rush, but the folks behind the counter know what they're doing and are quick! The sandwiches were good size with a decent amount of meat and the woman who took our order, repeated both sandwiches back to us. For the size of the sandwich, the price is on point. I just wish I lived closer so I could come here more often! The parking lot is very very small but we were able to find street parking since it's right on the corner going into a neighborhood. The store also has a lot of other grocery and snack items and staff were all very nice.

Yelp
This is a standard for locals on the west side. Fantastic sandwiches and a really, really solid selection of liquors. I couldn't find tonic water when I came. The sandwiches are impressive and expertly made, both the hot and cold versions. I usually can't eat a whole one myself, so they end up being two meals for me. They also have an eclectic selection of treats and snacks. I highly recommend this place, as I come here all the time.

Yelp
The best sandwiches, reasonable prices and the friendliest people! Don't be deceived by the exterior- Bob's is a real find.

Yelp
As I was in the area, I saw that this place is a nice local spot to get breakfast sandwiches at. Upon arriving, I noticed that it's a cute little corner store that has a deli area in the back where they have variety cuts of meat and bread to select from. You can make your own from the choices they have or order one of their sandwiches they have on the menu. My boyfriend and I had ordered their breakfast sandwich which had cheese, ham and egg. It was decent but on the dryer side. My sister had made a sandwich and had pastrami. I apologize as I can't remember her entire order but I remember her stating that it was also dry as well. Their habanero sauce that you can request on the side is pretty spicy! It has good heat and a smokiness flavor to it! Overall, this was a cool spot to check out. Maybe if I'm in the area, I'll come back to order another sandwich.

Yelp
When you first get to the door the classic deli smell takes hold. (In a good way) A very nice gentleman made our sandwiches. Not pushy. Super helpful explaining the many types of turkey and patient as it was our first time there. We also tried the pasta salad with olives and such. Nice light dressing and good assortment of veg in with the nice amount of pasta. The store is chock Filled with stuff! Beverages we had not heard of but were interesting. Random flavors for chips. Loads of stuff to entice you as you put together a meal. No place to sit but that was fine. Was nice to go to a nearby park and enjoy our lunch. Will def come by for a good solid sandwich the next time I'm e a craving. There are closer places but this place is just as good or better and about $5 less an item. Really.

Yelp
Good place for a solid sandwich. Generally using boars head products. Service is pretty quick which is good because this place was busy at lunch time.

Julie F.

Yelp
Had the turkey club and pastrami on the dutch crunch bread, with everything and they were delicious. My friend and shared the 2 sandwiches and couldn't finish them they were so big. Friendly staff, would go back if I am in the area.

Yelp
Was in the area for work and spotted this place out of the corner of my eye while I was starving so decided to drop in and get a sandwich. I got the roast beef on Dutch crunch, it was really good, meat was sliced nice and thin, very flavorful as well!

Yelp
Bob's Country Corner is a staple of the surrounding neighborhoods of Menlo Park/Palo Alto/Atherton/Redwood City! Quaint little convenience store with tons of options for just about anything you might need to stop in for. I've gotten sandwiches here that are very good for a fair price. Sandwiches are made right in front of you with very fresh ingredients, and they have a lot of different options for meat, cheese, and veggies. They also have tons of different and unique snack options, many of which aren't available in your average convenience/grocery store. If you have a sweet tooth like me, they offer tons of variations on your typical desserts/sweets, many of which I'd have to guess are imported. You're sure to find something you like! Staff is very kind and welcoming as well! I highly recommend stopping by Bob's Country Corner if you're in the area!

Yelp
Came back for a second time and was more happy with the meat ratio. The condiments and meat are fresh and the bread is soft and fresh as well. Good sandwiches. Good prices. Long wait, so call ahead.

Yelp
That turkey club tho! I had a bar patron tell me about this place and I'm so glad I checked it out for myself. Completely nondescript, tiny, missable, little corner store of wonders! Their liquor selection, chips and candy are mind blowing as well. Great spot to pick up (no seating indoor or outdoor) and go!
google avatar

Breanna N.

Yelp
Let's hit the club! Ordered: - Dutch crunch w/ pepper jack, salami, mayo, mustard, lettuce, pickle, onion, jalapeño Experience (5/5 stars): *Food: freshly made sandwiches in the back of the shop! I enjoyed mine, had to save the other half for later. *Price: ~$10 for sandwiches *Service: excellent, all the staff members were friendly! *Ambiance: didn't have anywhere to eat so we ate in the front Overall, I'd recommend coming here for sandwiches!
google avatar

Abigail J.

Yelp
Great little shop with every snack you could possibly think of. For a sandwich spot, you really can get whatever you want and their subs are perfect for the price. I especially liked their Dutch crunch bread! What to Expect: It's a small convenience store with a fully stocked deli section in the back--handwritten menu and everything. You order your sandwich, then go to the front to pay. Everyone's very nice, and they speak Spanish for those who need it. Definitely would come again!
google avatar

Yelp
Made a random stop here for sandwiches. Cute little corner store with tons of fun snacks and drinks to choose from. The staff were super friendly and made one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time! 10/10 would go again if in the area!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
this place was bigger than I expected. I got a roast beef sandwich on Dutch crunch without lettuce and everything else and it was delicious. Their drink selection had a lot of drinks that never seen before. For instance, Arizona hard seltzer. They also had a lot of items like chips that I've never seen before and snacks that I've never seen before. a good price on the sandwich and the guy at the register was really friendly. I'm sure gonna come back.

Yelp
Great family deli. My favorite is the homemade chicken salad. Incredible selection of wines and beer. A real old-fashioned market.

Yelp
I've always passed by this place and finally checked it out. What a surprise! Their sandwiches are delicious! I'm so happy I came here. I ordered the salami sandwich on sour roll with everything except pickles. Added pepper jack cheese and pesto sauce and I fell in love! Every bite was tasty and amazing. Not sure if it was the pesto sauce with mayo and mustard but it was freaking delicious. The lady who made my sandwich was nice and friendly. Could be a bit of a wait but it is worth waiting! I also love that they have variety of snacks! Even ones that takes me back of my childhood days. I am definitely coming back!
google avatar

Bernadette M.

Yelp
So first Nadia is the best she made my amazing sandwich a little hiccup at first I orders. Turkey club and they forgot the Turkey LoL

G. Lue D.

Yelp
Been coming here for decades. Love the family. Barbecue beef is my favorite. Homemade deli meats are great.
google avatar

Terri M.

Yelp
Make sure that if you want something from the deli to wait in the line in the middle isle otherwise your screwed. I was on the side and 2 people who came after me went to order. Then a lady came up so I was going to go. Nope the employee called her up. Then 5 other people get in line so I had to get behind them. So about 10 people went before me when I was first. Ugg. They are a little shop and they have a bunch of stuff but be prepared to pay the price. Same cake mix at Walmart for $1.25 is $3.99 here. Parking is psycho. Checkout should be one person at a time. There was a line and the lady just helps whoever instead of taking whoever is next. There was three sandwich makers they were pretty quick. I got an egg salad sandwich and there wasn't much egg at all. So I wouldnt say the price you pay is worth it.

Yelp
was not a fan. i'd been here before a couple years back, but sadly i was less impressed this time around. I ordered the tri tip steak and when my sandwich was ready and i paid, the sandwich was pretty cold. no hate, it was busy and the guys making my sandwich also had to check me out to pay at the front counter, but the sandwich itself was nothing special. definitely not as good as the last time i was here. tri tip was bland and roll was nothing to write home about. produce was tasty but that's about it

Yelp
THE BEST!! You won't get a better sandwich in town! Country Corner is my favorite!! Much love

Yelp
Fresh and Tasty - Tried 4 sandwiches - each very different and each terrific (BLT wA, Beef, Morta, Nardia) and a pasta salad. This is going to be among my regular places! Nice folks too.

Yelp
TLDR: Unassuming little shop with a ton of different (and not always common!) snacks with a really popular deli in the back (the main attraction). Some parking spots nearby and expect a wait for the sandwich and to pay if you come during lunch time. DELI: Seems to be super popular and a few people at work claim this is their favorite sandwich spot in the area. It's in the back of the shop and you'd never know it's there without hearing about it. Has all the typical deli meats, breads, cheeses, and condiments/sauces. I'd say reasonable prices (note: getting the meat and cheese warmed is an extra cost) for a large sandwich ($10-12). I liked my pastrami sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll (though not the best Dutch crunch I've had) and it was huge. STORE: I didn't buy anything else while there but they have multiple rows of snacks and foods that are rarer to find in generic grocery stores nowadays but that remind you of childhood or that are just really interesting looking. Lots of snack and drink options to go with your sandwich. ENVIRONMENT: Very small store so people and items are all kind of squished together in the aisles and on the shelves. No seating to eat, so expect to drive somewhere else. There are a handful of parking spots outside the store but there are also street spots nearby that you can use (I think possibly with caution? Not 100% sure that customers can park on nearby streets with no issue, but you'll be in and out fast enough that your car can't get towed in the meantime).

Yelp
Cute little deli in the back of this corner market. I loved that everything looked super clean and organized at the deli. The two women working back there were friendly. The sandwiches were very neatly made and didn't make a mess to eat. All the ingredients tasted really fresh. Great spot for some tasty sandwiches!

Yelp
Really appreciate these folks, sandwiches are always very good and the staff in the back is second to none. Just always feel like I'm family here - even after a long day this little joint is such a pleasure to visit. Love spending my money here and won't stop, shout out Issa behind the counter - first class hands down let's go !!! Note: to those complaining - these are the stores that are so hard to find with everything being franchised here in 2023. This family owned business is of a dying breed. If your not happy with something I'm more than confident the team here would do anything and everything to make it right - communication goes a long way.

Yelp
I have been going to Country Corner since I was a kid for over 20 years as I am a local of west Menlo Park. I remember the owner Bob knew everyone and treated them like family before he passed away from cancer. But his sons and wife who have been there with him since 92 are still continuing the legacy and I figure it was time to write a review because they have always treated me like a son and now my kids are beginning to experience the same. I see some negative reviews but it seems these reviews are the usual suspects who go into a place thinking they are the Siskel and Ebert of food. I assume most havent given them a chance and every place isn't 100% all the time. They probably didn't realize that this place usually does whatever it takes to make the customer happy and they will gladly refund or make you a new sandwich or even give you a free one the next visit. What's important is how a business is after being tested many times. Like any science the more data the better and you can't test anything only once and expect to know accurately. Anyways... First the deli, they have workers who have been there for many years and know their customers. Most the patrons are either locals or workers in the area and you can call in an order in case they are busy which they usually are. What I like is that the owner Nadia is like everyone's mom and she applies the same rules to her deli as her own kitchen. Make sure everything is fresh and clean. Most deli are pretty dirty, don't have fresh produce and meats and are run by people who generally really care. They also make their own salads (chicken, crab, egg, and tuna) which are amazing. The bread is really good especially the Dutch crunch, they mostly use Columbus, Foster Farms and Boars Head so it's top quality deli meat and they cut the veggies and meats every morning which not all places do. They are fast and mostly accurate so even if the line is long it moves quick. They also have pre made Sandwiches in case you really don't have time like for a work lunch break that's short. They really aren't "premade" they are made at 11am I see right before lunch each day. Now we have to get into what happens if something doesn't go right which it does for every business and the real question is what they do about it. If for any reason you aren't happy they will no questions asked make you another sandwich or refund your money. Sometimes they give you a free sandwich the next time if you are a repeat customer. They basically will fix anything they don't do right whether it's deli or general store. Also customers cannot come to the deli on Sundays and expect it to reflect how the sandwiches usually are. I actually asked about this and the problem is that the bread company doesn't deliver to them on Sundays. It's just out of their hands. Also the main workers aren't there it's their day off so they don't cook their famous Thanksgiving turkey or Tri Tip Steak sandwiches or make their locally famous salads. But they usually make them Saturday morning they told me so it's almost as good. Just sucks about the bread so don't go in there thinking this is how it always is. Everyone needs a break and they work hard enough and I never really see them missing any other days off. Really committed workers and I can't hold that against them because I have read a couple reviews before posting mine and saw they came in that day. Next is the general store area. They basically have everything except a butcher or produce selection. They have the basics like apples oranges limes lemons red onions tomatoes but nothing extensive. The beverage selection is actually more extensive than major retailers. They have so many different types of beer, wines, liquors, juices and sodas. Crazy how they fit it all in a corner store sized area. The son Issa took over the alcohol drinks from his dad who knew everything about wines and other drinks. He really gets carried away because he loves it so much lol. The grocery selection isn't that extensive but it's a corner store and they have all you need in terms of what's important. The prices are very reasonable and they don't take advantage like many other stores in that area. The store is also not your typical liquor store, the building has been around for over a hundred years and it looks more like an old western from the outside. I heard it was a saloon or something way back in the day with horses instead of cars. They kept the original look outside. It's also very family friendly and they don't advertise any cigarette or liquor outside like most stores. Bob didn't want kids thinking it was cool to smoke. All in all this place has been a major part of my life growing up here and I figure it was time to write something positive for them after treating me and others so well for so many years. I just want to thank you guys for everything.

Yelp
Love Country Corner. Amazing sandwiches and great service!! Highly recommend to everyone living in the Menlo Park Area!

Cj M.

Yelp
Not so good for vegetarians. The veggies, cheese and avocado sandwich only had two think slices of provolone, and what looked like the "veggies" that go on every sandwich. They weren't well distributed, either, with the ends pretty dry and the pickled peppers mostly in the middle. There was a lot of finely-shredded lettuce, which made me think of the mostly-shredded lettuce on sandwiches at Subway. Service was good; ordered over the phone the sandwich was all ready to go 15 minutes later. The store is pretty dark and crowded with narrow aisles, mostly for snack foods and alcohol. It was a large sandwich, and probably the carnivores are more satisfied than the vegetarians, but it would be nice if they put on more cheese, especially when that's most of the sandwich.

Yelp
Sandwich game strong!! There's nothing like a deli sandwich. They have multiple options of sandwiches along with bread options. The store itself has everything a convenient would have, plus an amazing selection of booze and wine!!

Lea G.

Yelp
Outstanding sandwiches. Best we've found in Menlo Park. There may be a wait at busy times. Phone in your order and pick up.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Delicious and well priced sandwiches. Local deli at back of convenience with takeout only no tables. Happy with the tuna sandwich I had from here
google avatar

Monica H.

Yelp
First time here. Basic turkey sandwich. Got my order wrong (missing pepperoncinis!) but it's fine. Opened my sando to find a HAIR BAKED INTO THE BREAD. Wish I could get my money back because goodness knows I threw it away after.

Ben H.

Yelp
Best tritip sandwich I've ever had! Thank you bob's country corner. I'll be back soon!

Jim R.

Yelp
When I pulled up to this location there were trucks galore parked all around the surrounding area. There was a line of blue collar workers about 15 deep. Gloria L.

Yelp
After asking me 3 times what toppings I wanted, I was very disappointed after my 15 minute drive home to discover that I only got 2 out of 4 toppings. Assuming it's hard to hear behind the counter, it might help to implement a new ordering system to prevent issues like this (paper slips or electronic ordering). The turkey deli meat was standard. The Dutch crunch bread was stale, not crunchy. The added avocado portion was only a few thin slices of avocado, I almost thought it was missing at first. My husband's hot pastrami was an average, basic sandwich. I wouldn't go out of your way to stop here.

S P.

Yelp
So low key and yet delicious sandwiches and amazingly friendly service. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a sandwich.
google avatar

Zachary D.

Yelp
Nice little store/deli. Very nice employees. Great selection of sandwiches, chips, and drinks. Had the BBQ beef on Dutch Crunch with cheddar and it was delicious. Would definitely go again!

In My Honest Opinion G.

Yelp
The bread to toppings ratio is really off. They also forgot my cheese, not cool. First time ordering so maybe I had bad luck.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Without a doubt the best sandwich I have had in years. Ordered a turkey and salami with provolone on Dutch crunch bread. I asked for no onion but there was onion. That was the only flaw.

Yelp
I just moved to Redwood City and have already been to this place 3 times in the last week! The sandwiches are so good, and the service is even better. Country Corner is just the cutest, most unassuming little shop, but do not sleep on this place! Inside, you'll find a plethora of snack foods and basic groceries, as well as a wonderful drink section (yes, beer) and deli. In addition to the sandwiches, they also serve up all your deli favs (mac salad, anyone?) and have specialty items like chili verde breakfast burritos *drool*. Because of COVID, they've set up social distancing protocols, so there can be a line. However, the deli workers are super efficient and whip out the delicious sandwiches really quick. I don't know if it's the super soft, fresh rolls, the flavorful meats, or the combination of the fresh veggies with all of it that does it for me, but I am craving their sandwiches constantly! I heard from one of the staff that they have King's donuts and coffee in the mornings, which they had put on pause for COVID, but are now bringing back. I will definitely be stopping in soon to check that out. Stoked to have this awesome neighborhood shop so close to me now; I'll be coming here a lot more! 11/10 would recommend!
google avatar

Vahid R.

Yelp
This is the best local market for drinks and food. I go just to say hi and pick up some good food. Highly recommended. Support local businesses and support this great market.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
It is the neighborhood store for sandwiches, drinks and snacks. This place is awesome.

Yelp
Doesn't deserve anything less than 5 stars, wish I could give more. Bob lives on as such a legend, I used to have a tab with that man at 10 years old buying candy. He trusted us kids and taught us to repay our debts! Best deal for sandwiches on the peninsula, good people, lots of respect for this local legendary store, keep going!

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Amazing people and great sandwiches. I have been coming here for years and it's the best deli sandwich in town.
google avatar

Bianca S.

Yelp
So this place is soo worth the drive. The market has foodie treasures and well ill let the picture speak for its self. oh and there fridge stock on point cold brew to latte.
google avatar

L L.

Yelp
Good sandwich but could be great with a toaster! Meatballs on a sweet roll with provolone, lettuce, onions, and pesto. All came together well minus the soggy bread. A panini press would be a game changer here.

Yelp
This shop is nice and cozy.. they seem to have a pretty good selection aswell . The deli in the back has very tasty sandwiches. When they make them correct. Ive been there about 5 times and only got a correctly ordered sandwich once. I usually order their "home cooked turkey" it is BOMB. So today I came in and ordered a turkey and pastrami sandwich. They said the home cooked turkey wasn't ready yet. (Kinda odd considering it was just before noon). no problem, I got the smoked turkey and pastrami. The didn't put the pastrami on and it looked like someone sat on my sandwich. My friends sandwich made by the chick with the colored hair looked perfect. I was gonna do a 3 star but the sandwiches do taste VERY GOOD. so 4 it is
