Bocado Review - West Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When you go to a concert that you’ve really been looking forward to, there’s always that one song that you need to hear. Elton John has “Tiny Dancer,” at an Adele show, it’s “Hello,” and if you see Dave Matthews Band, it’s “Crash,” albeit a 17 minute version. The same can be said about eating a certain dish at one of your favorite restaurants, and at Bocado in West Midtown, their greatest hit is the burger stack. This Westside mainstay has been around since 2009, which made it one of first places to open up on the Westside. And while it’s always been a great date spot, Bocado has remained a go-to for weeknight dinners and long weekend lunches because of their burger stack. It includes two thin and crispy patties, American cheese, mayo, and pickles, and it’s the burger that you’ll soon measure all others against. photo credit: Gavin Guidry While the rest of the dishes are secondary, much like at a show, you need more than just the one song to round things out. The menu here includes plenty of small plates, like red quinoa with cashew butter and deviled eggs, each of which is great if you just want to graze while you have a drink or two. The other option is getting a second entree to split, and while they’re all good, the roasted chicken with grits is what you should go for. Is Bocado as shiny and new as it once was? Not at all, but with so many restaurants popping up in the area now, it means you can get a reservation here a little easier than you used to. When you add that to the burger stack and their great cocktails, Bocado is still one of our go-tos for everything from an afterwork solo meal at the bar to a big second or third date. Just make sure that either you or whoever you’re with gets the burger, because just like when Radiohead stopped playing “Creep” at their live shows, it’s just not the same experience without it. Food Rundown Bocado Burger Stack This burger might not be why you came to Bocado for the first time, but it’s the reason you’ll come back again and again. It’s the perfect double stack with American cheese, mayo, and pickles, and it’s the first thing you should order here. Red Quinoa This small plate comes with a mix of quinoa, cucumber, avocado, peas, cilantro, radish, and cashew lime butter. It’s fresh, light, and a great way to eat a salad without feeling like you’re just eating a salad. Deviled Eggs A lot of places serve mediocre deviled eggs, but Bocado isn’t one of them. The toppings change from time to time, but they’re always good. Get an order for the table. Herb Fries When you smartly get the burger, opt for the herb fries. They’re tossed with garlic and herbs, and served with aioli, and are an absolute upgrade to the original. Roasted Chicken Only available at dinner, the roasted chicken is a little spicy, with an almost hot sauce-like flavor to it, and it comes with grits and collard greens. If you’re splitting the burger with someone and need a second entree to share, this is a good choice." - Sarah Bailey

Pros: Server is very patient, attentive, and friendly. I have a 4 month old baby whom I breastfeed and we were first seated at the booth, but the server offered a folding chair so that I could breastfeed comfortably. Our baby was fussy and loud, but they were kindly patient enough as we ordered and checked the menu. Cons: Food is not great. It is also very overpriced. The portion sizes smaller than a size that the typical colombian restaurant would have served. 1.) The grilled chicken breast was undercooked, showing pinks here and there. The grilled chicken is also very wet, juicy, and squishy. 2.)The carne my brother ordered was also undercooked, felt a little raw to him. Sadly, I only took photos of my chicken. 3.) There is a beard hair on my chicken. 4.) The staff were distracted by the soccer match on TV, and took a little longer than they should’ve, given that they didn’t properly cook the meats well. 5.) We saw cockroaches roaming around towards the bathroom area. 6.) My bf got an arepa combo but it was like a bite sized candy portion for a lot of $. * I do not recommend this place to anyone, especially those new in the area and traveling. We chose this place because we visited the aquarium and this happened to be close by… Choose another colombian place!! I attached photos for reference.

I can’t believe we just paid for a $6 lemonade and they also charge you for water where most of the places water is free, food was eh honestly it was dry, the tequeños were the size of my thumb, also when we ordered the server completely a forgot a plate and we had to wait for them to make it. Go to La ruana or las delicias de la abuela the food quality is better and the prices are fair. ALSO!! No A/C it was really hot inside.

Ordered some what sampler since this was my first time here. The owner was super nice the start to end. Overall food was a little hard but the taste was good.

Google
What a huge let down; I had high hopes for this place based on the 4.5 stars I saw it had on Google. I’ll start with the good: our server was very kind and polite The rice and beans were good The chicharron was good The bad: $8 for 5 mini empanadas that all together would make 2 empanadas at any other Colombian restaurant. $8 is highway robbery and they weren’t tasty at all (see picture of the empanadas). $2+ for one cheese stick with guava the size of my thumb and not good at all. $2.75 for a pandebono less than half the size of my palm also highway robbery. The think steak that came with the bandeja paisa dish was the blandest and toughest piece of thin steak I’ve ever had at my life. The chorizo was too fatty and seemed undercooked. I in good heart cannot recommend this place to anyone. Go to Trigos or Las Delicias de la Abuela instead and you will experience quality Colombian food at a better price and better atmosphere.

Google
It’s a restaurant behind the Shell gas station. The service was great. The restaurant was clean and pleasant. We ate inside. The food was good. I’m glad we decided to stop in.

Google
Can't speak for the service or atmosphere, the food was ordered via a delivery service. The order was correct and the portion sizes were good. The shredded beef arepa had a lot more flavor than the chicken arepa.

I ordered a steak arepa rellena with platano on the side. I had a natural mango juice made with milk. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Wilder was really nice and helpful he made sure I felt at home. A true Colombian showing our hospitable culture. Will definitely e back.

Google
Wanted something different and tasty. These people delivered. Decently priced for what you get. Some items are meal style, but a bigger bit is a la cart. That was perfectly fine by me. Got the pollo arepa rellena, and it was great. There was a language barrier, but nothing that patience and Google translate couldn't help with. Will be more than happy to come back.

Yelp
What a nice experience for Columbia food. It's definitely giving cafe vibes but reminded me of the food we had in Dominican Republic. The manager (who may have been the owner) was very nice, little English spoken but it was enough for us to enjoy. The music is flavorful, there is a lot of parking, the prices are reasonable. The food was really good, hot, fresh to order and the avocado house sauce was everything! I recommend the pork belly and the Bandeja Paisa. I'd definitely go back.

Yelp
The worse Boca. Never buy here. the staff is so unkind and food is always inconsistent. They always try to rip you off with prices. Every time I stop and get " empanadas " are always a different price. terrible terrible!

Yelp
Service was bad. When we went to order the food the server was acting deaf and we got the wrong food. Also the food was dry and the drinks tasted like water. Ambiance was ok but still one star

Yelp
New Columbian place in town. Great food and great customer service... lots of seating. Right next to the shell gas station near the 85 exit. Loved the arepas... it's stuffed with meat..

Yelp
Freaking Delicious!!! I got the traditional burger with fries. I thought it was a little expensive at first but after I ate it I quickly realized it was totally worth it! They have really made the place look nice and you should totally give it a try.

Yelp
First time and bump into this little place to give it a try. Ordered empanadas mixtas (beef and chicken) and the beef arepa, wow really delicious. Quick and friendly service. Definitely coming back with the family

Yelp
Food was horrible so was the service $18 for a burger cook did not wear gloves also fries were undercooked never done there!!!!! Wish I could give no stars

Yelp
Still loving the food from this place but prices on the menu don't match what they charge you. Be aware, every price listed on the menu is actually +$2. So an arepa de pollo listed at $8.99 is actually $10.99 and no one from the staff lets you know. For this reason i give it 1 star this time.

Yelp
great food, friendly service. Best enchilada con carne . Even my 8 year old loves it.

Yelp

Yelp
The food is always amazing! Can't complain on the flavor, but the pizza is over price for the size that is. It taste good, but is not worth the price.

Yelp
Service was good and food really good. Place clean, food cooked in open kitchen. Very easy to find and close to the Highway. Was told one will be open Ming in cumming, GA. Can't wait for that as it took me 30 min to get from cumming.
