Acclaimed Atlanta Restaurant Bocado Bar + Diner Is the Latest Transplant to Eye Charlotte - Eater Carolinas

"New American/Southern restaurant Bocado Bar + Diner will expand from Atlanta, Georgia, into Charlotte, North Carolina, this summer. Bocado has been a staple of the Atlanta Westside community since 2009. The restaurant serves brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner and, late night (in pre-COVID times). The shining star of Bocado is the double stack burger." - Erin Perkins

Fantastic burgers, delicious herb fries, yummy ham and cheese fritters. This place has something for everyone. Their cocktails are thoughtful and delicious. The service is wonderful. The interior is decorated so beautifully and the outdoor patio is just as nice.

Had the new truffle ice cream last night. It was amazing it came with a honey crisp that was very fresh. The rest of the menus held its standard as well with an impressive bone ribeye cooked to a perfect medium rare. They were quick to accommodate my allergy and vegan specific counter part. Loved the space and had a great time. I will be coming back soon, and would recommend to anyone looking for the best food in Charlotte.

I had a great experience on opening night. I think the past two reviews are very unfair given it’s opening night. The chicken and grits were amazing. We loved the me, myself and ipa drink - very refreshing! Burgers are very overpriced compared to other local spots of similar quality. I think price is a little high, but otherwise we had a great experience. Our waitress Kamari was fabulous!

Was in Charlotte for a trip and stumbled upon this gem. Had the south end burger and fries & man! BUSSIN! everything was perfect from the atmosphere to the Interior of the place and staff. Felt super welcomed. I didn’t get a chance to try the drinks but will once I return. From the looks of the menu it’s giving an upscaled bar vibe and not just a hole in the wall. I wanted to try everything! Perfect for after work or a date before the movies. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back once I am in Charlotte again.

The menu is chaotic and all over the place. Millennial meets burger joint meets steakhouse? The food is terribly overpriced and the portions are minimal. I cannot recommend this restaurant and we will not be back.

Slowest service I've ever seen in Charlotte. I understand most restaurants are short-staffed right now, but this didn't seem like just a staffing issue. First off, we were seated about 20-30 minutes past our reservation time. We ordered drinks as soon as we could. My drink didn't arrive with the rest of my party's drinks. Server said it was on the way. I waited. And waited. And waited. 45 minutes or so later, after reminding our server 3 times what I had ordered... still no drink in front of me. We ended up going up to the bar to ask about my drink, then it came right away. In total we asked for this drink at LEAST 4 times, and I didn't get it until I was already eating my entree. In addition to the drink issue, one of us didn't get her food until the rest of us were done eating. We also had to ask the server about that at least twice, and then notified the bar when we asked them about the drink. Absolutely nothing was taken off the bill, or even discounted. No manager came over to check on us. Couldn't even tell who the manager was. Even the server never actually apologized for the wait. The only compliment I can give is that the food was decent (although small portion sizes for the price!) but there are much better restaurants nearby. The food isn't good enough for the price, or to make up for the service issues.

Saw on social media that this place was opened and is located where Big Ben used to be. The layout was beautiful, especially the patio. My wife loves it. The hostess with the pretty smiles and long black hair that we’ve met before works here as well so it was a warming welcome from her. While she added us onto the wait list, she recommended getting drinks at the bar while we wait. The Me, Myself, and IPA was a great drink for the hot weather. As we were quoted 5-10 minutes, we were seated in 5 minutes. Definitely a great scene on the patio for date night, just a bit too cramped! I get that they wanted to squeeze as many tables as they wanted on the patio but it is too tight! My wife was bumping chairs with a person behind her and both of our tables agrees that they should spread them out a bit more! Our waitress Kamari was super lovely- which the only thing tonight we enjoyed was the service. The menu is insanely overpriced! Not sure if this is common in Atlanta (which I have also never seen) but this is basic southern foods with some plating for 5 times for what it’s worth! My burger was the size of a toddler’s hand and NO I am not kidding!!! I paid $20 for it! 5 pieces of deviled eggs for $12?! Quality tastes the same as other neighboring spots. The only thing that was reasonably priced were the cocktails, which was $13 I believe. It was their first opening night to the public and items were limited but I do not wish to be back at all. My wife was still hungry after we’ve left. Be aware that 20% of gratuity (tips) is automatically added on the tab as a service charge, even with only 2 people. I did not mind as our waitress was excellent but that is bad especially for people with bad service experience. Stop by for drinks at the bar is my only recommendation if you do come!
