Had the chance to try Bocanova for their Oakland Restaurant Week deal, and it was a treat! We started the night strong with the freshest shrimp aquachile that came with some warm tostadas. Then we tried both the entree - the seafood feijoada comes with seabass, salmon, calamari, scallops, and even pork belly, drenched in roasted jalapeno cream that tasted nutty and tomatoey. The roasted duck was yummy too - reminds me of Asian stirfry but with a Mexican mole twist, with tender perfectly cooked meat.
Dinner prix fixe ($54)
Appetizer - Shrimp aquachile or grilled asparagus
Main - Seafood feijoada or pan roasted duck breast
Dessert - Pastel de chocolate
From their regular dinner menu
Chocolate croissant bread pudding ($14) - one of the best desserts ive had in a while! Flaky croissant, on top of warm creamy bread pudding, topped with their housemade chocolate ice cream that is bitter, the perfect sweet bitter flavor!
Blue crab beignet ($22) - loved the crunchy exterior of the beignet! The filling is very soft, the beignet is also soft, the spicy mayo sauce is needed to balance of the creamy crab filling
Beef empanada ($18) - beeef is soo tender and nice flavor, a solid empanada.
100 Anos en Oaxaca cocktail ($17) - mezcal is strong but the flavor is great
Forbidden apple mezcal ($17) - very sweeet tasting!
The dining space is really nice, not a loud space as it is separated from the bar area. They also have a outdoor seating area. Parking may be tricky as they dont have a special lot, but can do street parking or park at the Marriot hotel across from them for a $20 flat rate.
