Disappointing and Unwelcoming to Families
We've dined at Bocelli's in Doylestown many times over the years, but our most recent visit left us shocked and saddened--and certain that we won't be returning.
When I called to make a reservation for five, I was asked whether we'd have children with us. I answered yes, not thinking much of it. But upon arrival, it became clear that this answer determined how we were treated. Despite numerous nicer tables being open, we were taken straight to the worst table in the restaurant. When we asked to move, we were told no--until the owner finally came over. After I insisted, he allowed the move, but not before turning to my daughter and saying, "We don't like to seat children at those tables because other customers might complain."
The message was clear: children, no matter how well-behaved, are unwelcome.
The rest of the evening continued in the same spirit--we were rushed through dinner in less than an hour. The food was fine, and the server did her best, but the overall atmosphere was cold and inhospitable. The owner, who was warm and friendly to other tables, barely acknowledged us.
Our children were polite, quiet, and better behaved than many of the adults around us. But that didn't seem to matter.
This experience was deeply disappointing. We'll no longer support a restaurant that makes families feel like a burden. If you're dining with children--of any age--I'd recommend going anywhere else.
