Google
Boda Borg was such a fun experience. The quests are creative, challenging, and full of variety. If you fail a room, you can jump right back in and try again as long as no other groups are waiting to enter. It did get pretty hot inside while running around, so be prepared to sweat a little. We could see that the AC was set on 69 but the temperature was 78 so the AC may have been having issues. They also had some industrial fans to help cool it down. They provide free lockers but you can’t bring a water bottle with you in the quest area,. This was an awesome group activity that requires problem-solving, teamwork, and physical activity. We only paid for 2 hours but could have definitely stayed longer. Highly recommend!

Google
So much fun! I don't know how anyone can go for only 2 hours because the 4 hour time slot flies by. This is such a great place and there's so much good food around. Take the kids, take some friends, have a networking event, or a team building day. It'll be the most talked about experience. If you like a challenge, you will love this place. There are a few rooms that are too physically challenging for me, but there are enough spaces that aren't. I haven't completed all of the less physical rooms and I've been the 3 times! Book a time slot and give it a go!

Google
This place was lot of fun. We had a group of four which seemed to be about the perfect sized group. I will say that my brain was fried once we were done, but the 4 shots of espresso I had definitely didn't help with that, but we all had fun nonetheless. Would recommend!

Google
So fun!! I would say the rooms are a little harder than Level 99, prices are comparable. You need at least three people in a room. Becoming quest master seems quite difficult, but would love try one day! I wish there was a different way to track that you’ve completed the rooms besides the stamps on the paper.

Google
It’s a quite challenging experience if you’re into escape room puzzles. There are different rooms that provide 3 stages that you have one try to solve each time. The place is quite a maze itself to try all the rooms but I def recommend 2 hrs to give them all a try. It’s quite busy on the weekends which there are a lines for some rooms and lots of kids running around. However it’s quite fun to get through each room of thinking outside of the box and moving around as a group. I highly recommend this for friends or team building activities

I have been to Boda Borg a few times but this time with my family is definetly the best. We got through 6 rooms (and almost completed Lava, Platoon, Peace, and Wumplefrump) including the recently opened War, which we were some of the first people to complete. The owner actually accompanied us on part of our journey and explained some of the process for making the level War, and revisions that happened in the beta testing phase. Even aside from this, the entire boda borg facility is exciting and offers unique experiences, with the actual rooms rotating and there being multiple different parts to a room (3 different stamps for Quiz Show, medium and hard mode for Nostalgia, etc.). An important thing to note is that there isn't much direction at first in most levels unless someone explains it to you, but this leads to some open-mindedness and collaboration with your friends to come to a solution. I am going to try and come back as soon as possible to finish the rooms my family and I were close on, and explore some of the ones we didn't even try.

Google
Took my daughter & her friends here for her birthday. They had a blast! It was easy to reserve spots online. Other parents could submit waiver through link. We arrived about 10-15 mins early no problem. It was tough to find parking-so plan ahead. They had a large lounge area with different seating arrangements for those not participating or those needing a break. Some snacks & drinks available. Small & med lockers for free. They had larger lockers for suitcases, but not sure if you have to pay. The kids had a blast & can’t wait to go back. Such a fun place. Would definitely go back

Took my daughter here for her 12th birthday with some friends. They loved questing for a few hours, finding it challenging but fun too. It was pretty busy with a group from Northeastern there but it didn't feel very busy. The girls loved it!

Yelp
Boda Borg is such a fun experience -- tons of creative, interactive rooms that you can try with friends or family! Each quest is different, so there's something for everyone. the wait times can get pretty long during weekends or holidays, so I'd recommend going on a weekday or getting there early to beat the crowd.

Yelp
This place is one of my top favorite places to go when I'm in the Boston area! It's an incredibly unique concept and man does this feel like something that I'd want to have closer to me in the bay. Good: - Creative concepts and really cool rooms! - Love how if you fail you can try again - It's a good bonding activity - It's so cool how there are both physical and mental challenges Bad: - Sometimes the wait time for the rooms is long! But overall you do go in and out fast especially when the day isn't too busy

Yelp
So, as a parent, let me just say it's loud on the inside. Let's get that out of the way. But there's also a lovely sitting area up top, with plants and coffee... The inside is awesome. The 7-year-olds in my care had a blast. Lots of tweens seemed to feel the same way. Nice operation, all around.

Yelp
Had a great time with my kids and extended family. This is our second time going in a few years and seems the place is kept up well. Staff is helpful and polite and checkin was a breeze. Couple of criticisms would be the physical nature of some of the rooms. However they do a good job labeling each room appropriately. Also the trial and error nature of many of the rooms is a bit disappointing. Not enough clues built into the rooms...If you are into traditional escape rooms- this is not quite the same.

Yelp
Oh Boda Borg, how do I love thee? I love thee enough to be pushing my old and infirm body extremely past the limit every time I go such that I'm bruised, cut up, head sore, and triumphant every visit. I had the pleasure of going before the Borg opened to the public in a Yelp Elite event, so no other trip can really compare to that first time. But even as the rooms get a little more run down and the crowds of teens get a little rowdier, it's still just a predictably great time even for old folks like moi. I wish they had water fountains and first aid stations everywhere, but that is really my only complaint. There are tons of rooms and they turn over often enough that you'll have something new to try on your next visit. Parking is easy, they have weird and delicious snacks for sale, and the staff are great. It's easy to reserve your spot but you can also make last minute adjustments easily. Wear long pants, bring bandaids, and best of luck to you on Banananan!

Yelp
I can't believe I didn't know about Boda Borg until now! Thoughtfully designed IN PERSON reality gaming quests that gets you and your crew's brain juices and bodies moving. The best part is that you have unlimited lives to redo the quests until you solve it! Gaining that stamp means that much more and it's your bragging rights that you totally deserve! This is the perfect bonding activity for friends, families, classmates, and coworkers.

Yelp
The ultimate Game Center! My family of four had such a fun afternoon attempting the different rooms. Some puzzles are more physical and some more mentally challenging, but they're all exciting. I won't give away any secrets, but I highly recommend this fun place!!

Yelp
This was a very entertaining activity for all ages! We did this activity on a weekday, and I believe there was a field trip; thus, there were so many kids running around. At first, I thought the place was only kid-friendly; however, those puzzles were hard! This was very entertaining due to its versatility, encompassing puzzles, escape rooms, and physical activities. There are so many rooms, and they are designated by difficulty. The facilities were very clean. Boda Bord definitely tired me out, but it was a very fun and wholesome activity. I definitely recommend it for families and friends!

Yelp
Boda Borg Is a great place to bring friends or co-workers if you want to work on team building. There is ample street parking and a small parking lot across from the building. You can bring groups of three to five people to a room. This place takes the idea of escape rooms and puts it on steroids. The escape rooms here are called "Quests" and each consists of between 2-4 rooms that you must completely beat in one go or else you have to start all over again. The rooms will require problem solving, good team work, and good observation skills to beat. There are 21 quests to complete and it will take multiple visits and many failed attempts in order to complete them. However, if you do complete the quest, the last room will unlock a stamp that you put on your card to prove that you beat it. If you end up beating all the quests you may end up on their wall of fame. If you get stuck on a puzzle you can ask a crew member for help for which they call a "nudge," but obviously it's only a small clue and they try not to give the solution away which would ruin the fun. For a first-time participants, you will be required to sign a waiver and then watch a 5-minute tutorial video. You will then get a locker where you can store your belongings away. There's an upstairs and downstairs, with the majority of the best rooms being downstairs. My favorite quests are Cardboard Temple, Alcatraz, Spook House, Potions, and Platoon. For tickets, you can reserve online and see what time slots are available or you can also buy tickets in person, but risk a time slot being full if it's too busy. The tickets are for 2 hour ($28) or 4 hours ($40) and you get a bracelet as your key to entry. The puzzles here are marked by color to designate if it's a mental or physical challenge. Of note, by the end of the day, my friends and I had bruises all over our legs from crawling into small tunnels and spaces and running into things. If you get hungry, they do have snacks and drinks available that are reasonably priced.

Yelp
Great interactive activity for all ages! My friends and I came here based off a recommendation from a friend. This place has a lot of room puzzles that range in difficulty and physicality. There are about 2-3 rooms/levels you need to complete for each challenge. Since we came in the morning during a holiday, there were mainly kids doing the puzzles. If you are a group of adults, I would recommend going during a different time of the day.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of fun. The kids love it and the idea is to learn from previous failures. I won't give away any secrets so go and enjoy! The rooms are broken up by intellectual vs physical challenges. I would put minimum age at 10 or so as younger kids will need some help in figuring out some things. They require minimum groups of 3 so team work gets better results. Though for some rooms go with the min and have a teammate sit out. Nice hangout space on the main level with a snack bar. And the bonus is the little Chinatown that has sprung up around it.

Yelp
Perfect group activity! I've been scouting for fun stuff to do in the winter other than skiing, museums or bars, and landed on Boda Borg. I've done escape rooms only once before and had a meh experience (probably because we didn't actually ... escape the room) so came here with some mild trepidation but it turned out to be so much fun. I will say it's probably 1000x more fun as a kid, as demonstrated by the hordes of tweens and teens on a Sunday morning. So, in a nutshell, Boda Borg is made up of multiple kinds of "quests" comprised of two or three rooms in each quest. If you succeed, you move on to the next room, and if you fail (which you'll do a lot), you have to go back and try again. You can try a room as many times as possible. Each time you make it all the way through one quest, you get to stamp your card as a badge of honor. There are three levels: green (lots of mental, minimal physical challenge); red (equal mix of both); and black (mostly physical). Make sure to wear comfy shoes and clothes, because several rooms definitely required crawling, shimmying, hauling yourself on handles along the edge. (Side note: the surfaces seemed the stuff of a germaphobe's nightmare, with so many kids running amok. I had to give my hands a good scrubbing immediately afterwards.) At the beginning, I thought as thirty-somethings with a reasonable level of fitness, we'd have a bit of a leg-up. Well, pride comes before the fall. Although the intro video warned us of a pretty high failure rate (I think the average group fails each room 10x before cracking it), the first, second, and third times that the alarm rang letting us know we had utterly failed in less than a minute were pretty jarring. (Side note #2: You can ask the employees in the halls for a clue. They obviously can't give too much away but the nudge we got for Awesome was helpful.) My favorites: Spycatcher, Sphinx, Potions, You're Awesome. There were a bunch of others we didn't get to try. Sunday morning was definitely busy and we spent a good chunk of time just waiting for the group in front of us to finish. I recommend a weekday afternoon/evening so you can have more of the place to yourself. Parking: Right across the entrance on Pleasant Street is a public parking lot. Lots of street parking too. Parking is free on Sundays. Great location in downtown Malden, with lots of restaurants around. We grabbed a bite at Mystic Station afterwards.

Yelp
WOW! Boda Borg truly is an out-of-this-world experience. It's much more than just a typical escape room or brain teaser challenge. Each room is uniquely themed and intricately planned with different activities, and the programming resets after each time, so when we tried our favorite rooms multiple times, we still got a different experience. The rooms are a mix of mental and physical challenges, and the more physically demanding rooms are identified by red or black paint on the doors. Some of those rooms were very tight (especially with 4 people competing on the same obstacle at once), so it might not be the best option for claustrophobic people. Boda Borg truly is an amazing place, and I wish I could reveal some details about the rooms, but I don't want to give any spoilers for people who haven't been yet! I paid for a 2-hour session, but I wish I had more time--I'm already researching how I can open a Boda Borg franchise in my hometown!

Yelp
I came here last week with colleagues. None of us were really sure what to expect based on the web site (except for the one colleague who had come once before). It was a Tuesday, and things were really quiet at the venue. Once we found the correct door to enter, we checked in and watched the explanatory video. Note: As the video tells you, the colors match to a PHYSICAL intensity level, not a DIFFICULTY level. All I'll say about that is that if you choose an activity with a black door, you should be prepared to army crawl or do monkey bars or something like that. There are all sorts of different rooms with puzzles. I won't spoil any of them here, but the interesting thing is that you have to go into each room and figure out how to win it. Some of them are fairly easy, but there were two rooms that we could never figure out. We kept messing something up and the red light would come on, notifying us that we had failed the room, so we eventually gave up and moved on LOL. My favorite one was probably the Lava room. It's a fun place! I think this was a nice team building activity, and you can really spend hours here if you are trying a lot of different rooms. Because there were so few people there, we only had to wait on people to leave a room once or twice before we went in. I'd go back and try to figure out those rooms that we couldn't get!
google avatar

Margaret L.

Yelp
We've been here twice in the past month now even though it's over an hour away because we just HAD to have more time to retry some of the rooms. At the beginning it was a bit overwhelming. There's a lot of rooms and often you leave one wondering what the heck you did wrong. After a while though we hit our groove and started making progress. We were with some friends who had been before so they remembered some rooms and helped guide us. Even so we only got 4 or so stamps the whole 4/5 hours we were there! Our next visit we were more prepared and knew what to expect so got more than double the number of stamps. I liked the color coding system that indicated if a room was more physical, mental or a combination. It was great to be able to mix it up and know a little bit what you were getting into. It was also fun that several quests could be solved in different ways. I heard before covid restrictions they had an unlimited time pass but for now it's either two hours or four hours. I strongly recommend doing the four hours. You definitely won't run out of things to do and we would've left with basically nothing to show for our efforts at 2 hours. It does get busier as the day goes on and more parties enter so we opted for morning spots so we'd have a quiet start with no lines. Even by the early afternoon though you never have to wait too long to get into a room. I fully expect us to be back to try to tackle the rooms we still haven't cracked.

Yelp
Wow! What an incredibly unique experience that I had no idea what I was walking into! Apparently this is Europe's take on escape rooms but with a little twist and is currently the only location in the US! This place is packed with rooms upon rooms of puzzles that make you think and can have 2-3 levels/other rooms you have to unlock in order to finish the level and receive a stamp. It's tricky though because you have no rules and a shorter time limit and have to piece things together yourself! If you do something wrong, you'll immediately be kicked out and will have to leave the room to try it again! It's so much fun, though, I promise you'll never be boda bored! Would recommend anyone that is visiting the Boston area to put this as a hidden gem you must visit!! Don't want to spoil the rest of the excitement but will say The floor is Lava and Alcatraz are what childhood fantasies are made of!

Yelp
Had so much fun! Took the advice of other reviewers and got the 4 hour pass and glad I did. Went with a group of 12 total for my birthday and it was great! The booking folks were excellent communicators. The staff were welcoming, responsive, and flexible. The whole thing is very smoothly run. Parking nearby. Free lockers to store gear. Easy to go to the rest room, grab water, or go to locker whenever you need to. Rooms were really challenging and really fun, loves swapping group members around when we would get stuck on a room to get a fresh perspective. It definitely got very busy towards the end of the day so would recommend getting an earlier time slot. 10/10 would recommend and can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Liliana U.

Yelp
Fun group friendly activity! Groups of 3-5 are welcomed so not really a date night activity unless you do a double date. Reservations can be made online or over the phone. HIGHLY recommend reservations. We called 5 hours before and we're able to get the last spots of the evening. DONT BE LATE, you pay for the time slot so if you're late you spend less time. Time slot cost: $28/ person for 2 hours or $40/person for 4 hours. If it's your first time I recommend the 4 hours just because we wishes we would've had a little more time when we only did 2. Quests: 20+ quests, each quest has 3 "levels" or "rooms". They are color coded to distinguish between PHYSICAL level challenge. Even the physically challenging ones weren't very strenuous. Wardrobe: wear comfy clothes & shoes. You'll thank yourself later :) Lockers: they offer lockers & water station!

Yelp
Incredibly challenging and fun. - lasts for hours - the puzzles are very difficult - great team bonding - tons of puzzles to pick from in case you get frustrated You will fail. Fun.

Yelp
Boda Borg is so great for all ages from kids to adults. They're were many different games like obstacle courses to trivia. The rooms were so enticing I kept wanting to try again and again. I went with friends and we had such an awesome time figuring out the rooms together. I highly recommend for kids 10+. This place is awesome if you want to be frustrated in a fun way.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time taking out a family member for his birthday. There is so many different rooms with different degrees of difficulty. Our favorite was the Egyptian themed room. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
Very clean place considering the amount of people that go there. The rooms are challenging yet entertaining. Snacks are reasonably cheap.

Yelp
My friends organized a birthday get together which was perfect for my group of 8. We split into 4s which was ideal for the room sizes and tasks. There were a plethora of escape rooms with barely any direction of what to do when. It was an exercise for the brain and body requiring running around, touching random items, and thinking outside of the box. Since it was for my birthday, I'm not sure of the price but I know you can pay based on how long you want to play for. We stayed for 2 hours but could have easily stayed for 3 hours. Highly recommend for those kids and young adults. Warning to wear comfortable clothes you can crawl in.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
I love this place, it is always a fun and challenging time. You can choose to do either 2 hours or 4 hours. The 2 hours is a decent amount of time to try all the rooms at least once. Every room is so difficult with a series of two- four rooms. They range from mental to physical and I would recommend workout clothes. Each time we go back it's hard trying to figure out how you got through rooms you did the previous time. It never gets old and it such a good time for everyone. We had a group of 5 but if we had one more person we would have split up into groups of 3. You need at least 3 people for each room.
google avatar

Yelp
I wasn't too thrilled when I found out the family was going to an "escape the room" type place -- but my wrong opinions definitely changed when we did our first quest! Instead of having only one theme room with a timer, there are multiple rooms with different themes and level of physical activity. Highly recommend wearing stretchy pants/workout clothes and sneakers as some rooms require a bit of movement. As my family was new to the place, they had someone give us an intro of how the rooms worked and explained what the symbols meant. Side note: love seeing the employees work - their communication skills are great! Each quest had its own set of challenges, and you're meant to fail multiple times. They don't tell you why you failed (wrong answer, ran out of time, etc.) so you gotta figure it out with your teammates. The recommended group size is 3-5 ppl. It's totally fine to do more (my group had 6), but if possible I think the ideal number is 3. Each quest is set up to only require 3 people to complete a task, so if you have more people you'd end up with the remaining teammates not doing anything. Overall super fun and a great team building activity - Highly recommended for anyone in the area!

Yelp
This place is a BLAST! I went with 3 friends and we had an amazing time. They offer several different rooms and adventures inside, the place is massive! I recommend to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers as some of the rooms are physical. For parking, there is metered street parking outside. I highly recommend!

This place is incredible fun. Incredibly nice staff and tons of escape rooms. Is friendly to all people and has great variety. Encourages team body and fun

Yelp
Perfect way to entertain the teens and tweens for a few hours. Love the escape room style experiences that range from puzzles to physical play. With over 20 rooms to conquer and new rooms being added we look forward to every trip. My only feedback is that they would benefit from more supervision for the groups of kids roaming the halls. We heard very inappropriate language and observed groups of kids negatively interacting with each other. Staff was extremely responsive when we let them know. Kids had a blast and continue to beg to go back. Overall a great experience to unplug and play for a day!

Yelp
SO MUCH FUN. I wish there were more Boda Borg locations around the US! Boda Borg houses around 20 or so escape-room-like mini games called "quests", each of which have 2-3 levels that you and your team will need to work together to beat. With a group of 3-5 people, you enter a room with no instructions (other than knowing the general theme), and your goal is figure out how to escape/finish each level without any mistakes. Once you successfully beat the entire quest, you can stamp your scorecard as proof and move onto another challenge. But trust me...it's a lot harder than it sounds!! Aside from how creative and challenging some of these quests were, what impressed me the most is that everything, including game play, is electronically controlled. Each room has a screen in it - if you pass, you will see a green icon pop up indicating you can move on. If you trigger something and fail, a red icon will appear to indicate you need to exit the room and start from the beginning again. EVERYONE fails, so don't feel discouraged the first few times around! I've been here twice several years ago and came back recently for my third time, and I'm so happy that they've introduced some new rooms to change it up. Can't wait to come back. Happy questing!

Yelp
We had a blast! Our family of four including two kids aged 9 and 10 went together. Plenty to do and hoping we can go back the next time we're in Boston. This is next level escape rooms!
google avatar

Yelp
Very poor customer service. Apparently groups of two are not able to attend despite the website saying in bold that there are no size limitations for groups. Also no one bothers to answer the phone when you call to find out if it's ok for two people to attend. You have to wait to found that out from unapologetic staff in person.
google avatar

Julie I.

Yelp
I visited Boda Borg with a bunch of smart athletic nerds and they really enjoyed the challenge. Each door has a color on it signifying the physical (not mental) challenge level. Red is for low physical intensity, green is for medium physical intensity and black is for high physical intensity. All the quests are mentally engaging. I'd recommend coming here with a party sized in increments of 3 (e.g., 3, 6, 9, etc.). Their website is easy to use for booking reservations but you can also book over the phone. Their staff are super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Pretty good love the escape rooms and we sure do love the Karen's too. When me and some friends went to Alcatraz and we waited inside the bunk area there was a mom and some kids and they told us to wait outside which was not true and she went like ima report you little shits BUT STILL RECOMMEND

Yelp
HOLY MOLY this place was INCREDIBLY FUN. I wish there was a way for me to give MORE than 5 stars. My friends and I all dropped in on a Saturday morning - the place was pretty mellow around 11AM. Come 1PM, people were swarming in, lines got longer, etc. However, the wait times weren't that bad, and hey, you could use the time to think about your next gameplan if you were retrying a room. Overall, we had an amazing time. If it's your first time, you'll have a quick introduction/FAQ session with a staff member. The deets are pretty straightforward: black rooms require high physical exertion, red rooms had a moderate amount of physical exertion, and green didn't require any physical exertion. And NO, just because the room isn't black, or red, doesn't mean that it's EASY. I found that some of the green rooms were the hardest and usually required a bit of mental thought to "escape." I'd have to say though that most of the black/red rooms were clearly a favorite (Alcatraz, Jungle, Farm, Rats were the most memorable). Yes - You'll be seeing me back again. Yes - You will be the most sore immediately after the games. Yes - You will get bruises. Yes - There is food. Yes - You can leave and come back the same day (must have your wristband in place). Yes - There are bathrooms. Yes - It is totally worth the money for the "All Day" pass.

Yelp
I've been to Boda now maybe 5 times. Each time is as fun as the last. Even rooms I've previously solved are tough to solve again, because I forget exactly how my team solved some of it. Participating with different groups of people is important, because certain combinations work better than others. The last time I went, I was with two of my lady best friends and we absolutely rocked at it, and got 6 stamps. We all had skills and approaches that complimented each other, and never got frustrated with one another. A group of three is the sweet spot. More people can just get in the way. I want to try going during a weekday, since weekends definitely get crowded, which means more of a wait for the rooms, especially the poplar ones.

Yelp
A super fun and unique time! Boda Borg has a a bunch of different rooms with varying levels of mental and physical challenges. Each challenge may have 3-4 level and you have to figure out each level to advanced to the next level. Each challenge is also rated by the color door with green being the least physically challenge, red being moderate, and black being the most physically challenging. Those black doors are definitely hard! They're mental puzzles that you're not meant to necessarily get the first time so you can always try multiple times. I'll definitely be heading back since we were bamboozled by a bunch of them! This activity is likely best for teenagers and up. It is probably too challenging for younger kids! My only suggestion is that they have strong and more reliable ventilation and air circulation as it can get hot with the challenges. Also you are with your group only when in the challenge rooms, but the hallways can get crowded with people waiting.

Yelp
WOW! Went here with my Disney A Capella group. It was my first time at an establishment of this variety. Boda Borg is great for groups and a ton of fun. Think escape room meets conference room. Many of the rooms I tried somehow involved basketball. I struggled with all of them and at times had to remove myself for the sake of my team. Don't be fooled, Boda Borg is a feat of strength and a major workout. I even rolled my ankle. Prepare like you're headed to the gym, if that's what you're into. I probably won't be in Malden Massachusetts ever again, but if I am, I might drop by. I will definitely be telling everyone about this experience.

Yelp
This is the 2nd time I came here and it is just as fun as the first time. There was 1 new room this time and I was able to try the other rooms I couldn't do the last time I was here. They have new room coming and I would definitely love to come back for it!!! There is a lot of people through out the day but the wait for each is not that long. It is definitely worth getting the day pass. The time goes by really quickly. This time around I was able to get 16 stamps with my team with 12 hours of brains and muscles!!! It is really exciting when we get the right answer and we see the green triangle. More exciting when we pass the room and the stamp box opens. I can't wait to come back again and try the new rooms they are putting together. It is recommended to come here with sweats and sneakers/ comfortable clothes. There is AC but it still get quite warm from all the physical activities. They have a fountain there so you should bring a bottle for water. (You'll need it). This place is good for kids and adults!

Yelp
Came here with a big group to celebrate my roommate's birthday and I REALLY did not know what to expect. I was a mix of nerves (lol lame I know but the pictures of people's bruises on yelp weren't a help lol) and anticipation as all my friends who have been here told me they were so excited to be back. So before even coming here, I already knew I was in for quite an experience lol... And boy was I right-- dis place is SO MUCH FUN. I love the experience of going through a variety of quests that test your physical and mental capabilities as well as your ability to work as a team. How this place works: There are 20 quests you can choose from, all of various themes. To successfully complete a quest, you will need to go pass through 3 rooms, each of which have a different challenge that you need to complete before a 3-5 minute time limit. You are given no directions when you enter a room so part of the challenge is figuring out how to complete a challenge so you can make it to the next room/level. If you fail or time runs out, you will need to go back to the first room in the sequence. You can try to solve a challenge as many times as you want and once you complete all 3 rooms in a quest, you receive a stamp on your stampcard that proves that you passed. Quests range from being more physical or more mental/strategic--or a mix of both! The concept is very similar to Escape the Room, but I love Boda Borg better because you can try out a bunch of different challenges and themes! A few cons though: 1) my team and I found some of the machines to be outdated, which was frustrating because it hindered our ability to pass certain challenges (i.e. Shapes Room). 2) We went on a busy Saturday night so the wait time to enter some of the rooms was longer than we were told. This might limit your experience if you have the 2 hour pass! Overall, this is a super fun and unique place for some teambuilding and problem-solving. I cannot wait to come back or else I'll keep losing sleep trying to figure out how to solve some of these challenges!! lol

Yelp
This review is for the Halloween event only. The Boooo Da Borg, zombie tag. What is it: well they shut down all the quests and the staff dresses as zombies and chases you around in the dimly light basement of the various rooms and hallways. It's basically a giant game of tag, where you and the other attendees are trying to avoid the zombie staff. If you're tagged, you leave the game and get a stamp that says "meal" on the card they give you. If you don't get tagged then you are a survivor and get the stamp to prove it. It was a 2 hour event with rounds consisting of about 10 minutes each. So they try to fit in as many as possible. Since the basement is dimly lit, it's hard to tell zombies from people. The zombies will shake and moan, and sort of stumble, but they move fast for zombies. Less walking dead and more sauntering dead. CAUTION: you CANNOT run at all, for safety... ..but wear active/gym clothes, including sneakers, as they are mandatory. You will get hot. Also I saw a guy with an ice pack on his knee after a round. I, myself, was in a dark room and ended up taking a decent chunk out of my forearm on an obstacle I couldn't see. Be careful. WHAT TO EXPECT: big groups of friends, in costume, some of which were very boisterous. It was a fun crowd and a bit goofy. Herds of people are moving through this thing to avoid zombies. You will end up in tight spaces or swallowed up in groups of people hastily walking away from pursuing zombies. If you don't like the dark, small spaces, or crowds... this isn't the event for you. OVERALL: very fun thing to do around Halloween. The staff does a great job to be safe and have fun. The zombies know the space well. They will hide and wait for you to end up trapping yourself.

Yelp
Wanted to take my kids here because my son went with his class and had fun. But i honestly wouldn't recommend this place for black people. Yes, there are black staff but I was the first person in line in front of the register & the cashier/employee literally leaned to the side to look behind me. & called the people behind me to the front. Even they looked a little lost but went ahead anyway. I asked him didn't you see me standing in front of you. Btw once he was done with the group in front of me. Before I asked him anything I noticed I wasn't greeted with the same enthusiasm a the people he called ahead of me. So I just booked for the next day because I was irritated. If it wasn't for my kids b-days. I would have walked out and never came back. They also yell over a loud a mic which is really annoying. Then the staff members of school are yelling at the top of their lungs trying to get the kid's attention. I found this place annoying & unwelcoming.

Yelp
I attended Boda Borg as a work team outing and wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised and had a super fun experience! After arrival, our pre-determined teams of 5 were given directions by the staff, and then we were off to start the Boda Borg experience. There were 18 quests to conquer - with different themes and requiring different levels of physical activity. Each quest had several rooms, and you are only able to reach the next room if you pass the one before it. When you enter a quest, you have to figure out what to do and if you fail (which you will, a lot), you'll be kicked out and have to try again. You may fail for several reasons: 1) time limit 2) breaking a rule that you don't know exists, or 3) you make a mistake - but you won't know why. If you successfully complete a task, the door to the next room will open. If and when you get to the end of a quest, a box will open and you can stamp your scorecard. Pros: 1. Each quest room has a very short time limit, so you can try plenty of quests 2. If you go into a quest room and you aren't comfortable trying a task, there is an easily accessible exit door 3. You won't get bored because there is so many quests to try! 4. Great team-building activity Overall, I had a great time and my team didn't even get any stamps. :( That said, I won a gift certificate to go back and try again soon!

Yelp
OVERALL After hearing many wonderful things about Boda Borg, I finally got the chance to go. We got the 2-hour pass, but... if it hadn't been getting late, I totally could've gone longer! We were five people, which I felt was a good number -- definitely fewer than 4 would've been tricky. I was amazed at how hard some of the rooms were, but we did come out with three stamps, so... hooray for us! Overall, I thought it was lots of fun, and I can't believe it's the only US location -- can definitely see this becoming a trend the way escape rooms have. GETTING PHYSICAL The "green" (aka least physical) rooms were definitely more cerebral. The "black" (aka most physical) were, predictably, more physical. I wouldn't say I got sweaty, but I definitely got a little warm. There was crawling, bending, shimmying, bouncing, falling, etc. We had one person in our party who has bad ankles, and he chose to sit out a couple (including the Jungle). If you have any concerns about how physical a quest is or how much it requires a certain type of movement or stress of a body part, I would definitely recommend talking to the staff. ATTENDANCE/CROWDING On a weekend night, you will find many people who don't have other great options on a weekend night, aka kids and teenagers (and a few tired parents accompanying them). This didn't bother me, but the fact that the place was packed did mean we spent some short waits between rooms. Some of our friends recommend going right when it opens on a weekend (10 am), and I totally get why: Because of how they stagger the reservations, you get some guaranteed time where the place isn't at full capacity. Also: Boda Borg's website notes that week day evenings are pretty quiet. I can definitely see the appeal in getting there right at 5 pm on a Wednesday or something and questing for several hours. WHO SHOULD GO? I would say Boda Borg is good for kids, tweens, teens, and most adults. It's especially good for bonding activities for coworkers, teams, or hell, even as part of an awesome bachelor/bachelorette party! It's often hard to find fun group things to do that don't involve alcohol, and (like escape rooms) this is definitely one of them. WHO SHOULD NOT GO? That said, this is not the place for you if you are a ponderous thinker. Unlike escape rooms, every time something doesn't work, you have to go back to the beginning of the quest, so you can't sit and puzzle through things thoughtfully -- you just have to try, fail, go back, try again, fail, etc. FINAL NOTE I think this is also a great "experience" gift to give a team, family, group of kids, etc. What's a better gift than the gift of fun??

Yelp
Boda Borg is an escape room experience in the form of quests which take you through a series of rooms, each with their own challenge to solve. If you fail (which happens, a lot), you have to head back to the beginning, to try again. Basic tips - when the green triangle symbol above the door is blinking, wait. When it shines solid green, then you can go in. Don't start till you hear the noise signalling that the game has begun. Sometimes the rooms are quirky and don't work as they are meant to; just leave and try again, hoping it resets itself, or go try another quest. Be gentle with the props - there isn't anything that you have to manhandle with brute strength, though with some physical challenges where you'll have to crawl or climb (or dance). Three is the absolute minimum number physically needed in your group for some of the challenges, though more minds can help in other cases. Be prepared to queue up for the rooms, but the wait is never too long since the quests have time limits. Be careful about standing in front of any doors, as they may pop open at any moment. Since our first quest took us 45 min to get to the 4th room, 2 hours is not nearly enough - go for the all day option if you have the time. Lockers are free and you can hang the key around your neck. Bathrooms on the basement level are individual. Food is not allowed around the quests, but they have a bright sizeable area on the ground floor where you can relax and snack on the food or drink that you may purchase on site - no outside food allowed. Rules - you need to sign a waiver, be age 7 minimum, come with a team of 3-5 people, wear closed toe shoes that are firmly attached. Ideally make a reservation. Boda Borg is located in Malden a short walk from the T, with metered street parking (2 hour limits till 7pm Monday to Saturday). They validate for 2 hours free parking at two nearby garages: Jackson Garage and 170 Centre Street Garage, which charges $2 per hour parking. PS - they don't have knee pads to loan out any more; it was too hard for them to keep them clean. *** Pricing as of 9/2018 Two hours: $22 per person As long as you like: $33 per person

Yelp
This place is INSANELY FUN. My friends and I spent nearly 5 hours there, and I was shocked each time I looked at the time because 1 hour felt like 15 minutes! My biggest tips: -wear light clothing. It's warm in the rooms, especially the active ones! -it's 100000% worth it to buy the unlimited pass rather than the 2-hour pass, especially for such a small difference in price. I imagine that most people would feel disappointed at how little they got to explore with only 2 hours. I will note that I went on a weekend night, and it was pretty packed - we sometimes had to wait up to 5 minutes to get into a quest. -they didn't have a lot of food options when I went, so eat before! There are some places to grab food around Boda Borg's location. -they truly mean it when they say that just because a quest is physical doesn't mean it's necessarily super difficult! Don't be intimated by all of the black doors. -I was nervous at first to go into the Spook House, but it's not too scary at all :) Clearly, I had a blast and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Pre covod review: I've been here 5-6 times and have fun each time. And hate it. And then have more fun. And then hate it more. And then...well, you get it. Always do the all day pass because 2 hours is only enough time to leave you in the 'I hate this' spot. Maybe you'll get 3 rooms in that amount of time, probably not. They change up the rooms regularly so there's always something new.
