We booked a 4 night stay through Airbnb. Upon arrival, which admittedly was around 9pm, I had not received any communication about check in and assumed there would be someone to greet us. The cafe was closed and no one was around. I went back to the app and nothing. So, I scrolled through emails and nothing. I asked a patron in the parking lot how they checked in and they had checked in through the cafe. Super frustrating. I finally reached out via the app & was sent a text message which linked me to a series of questions before I could check in...but we were finally able to check in.
There are several entrance points to the building. You will receive a code for entrance which is a super nice, safety feature. It was a little confusing about which gate to enter, initially, to find our room but once we navigated the labyrinth, it was fine.
The room did not disappoint. We had room #201 and it was on the corner of the facing downtown and the bridge!
There is a giant tv in the livingroom, modern furnishings and spaces. The best part was the double French door that opened onto a small patio with chairs overlooking the city. It was hot but cooled off enough at night and in the mornings to really enjoy the space.
The shower was AMAZING! The water pressure will not only remove all your stress but probably the first layer of dead skin cells...free exfoliation anyone? The bathrooms were stocked with shampoo/conditioner/soap.
The kitchen & fridge were spotless and came with most of the basic essentials if you wanted to cook or prepare meals.
In this unit, there is a smaller bedroom and a "master" suite which contains a closet and vanity. There is a smaller vanity area connected by a door to the toilet/shower room. Be prepared, if you like watching tv before bed, neither bedroom has a tv.
Now, for the pros/cons:
Cons:
*Street noise can be outrageous.
*There are displaced folks in the area but we had no issues & as previously stated, gates & doors are coded and secure.
*Parking can be a nightmare. It's first come, first serve and some of the spots in the back of the building can be extremely difficult to navigate. There is a suggested parking lot about a mile + away from the building but 2 ladies, walking alone at night is not recommended. There are other parking areas but if you have a rental car, like we did some of the parking lots will not honor the license plate info. There is limited, paid street parking. The best spot we found for overnight parking was about 2-3 blocks away and I believe it was about $23 for the whole night (until 11am).
*The neighbors can be noisy. We had some particularly "stompy" neighbors above us, literally all night. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs.
* The shower curtain had no liner so a lot of the water escaped the shower, which caused a bit of mold in the corner of the shower floor.
* The French doors don't lock easily or securely which isn't a huge issue when on the 2nd floor or above but we came out one morning to the doors being swung open. A little shocking & a complete waste of energy. This could be easily fixed.
* There is no ice machine! As someone who grew up in the South and loves my ice I was deeply disappointed...but they do supply ice
trays and the cafe sells bags of ice on site which is fine unless you check in at 9pm. Plus, Covid...and in retrospect the idea of a shared ice machine seems pretty gross. So, I managed.
Now for the fun stuff: PROS
*Did I mentioned the AC is EPIC??! As a person who is hot natured coupled with the heat & humidity that is TN, I was in LOVE with the awesome AC!
*Two words: Water pressure!
* The beds were actually comfortable and I do not, I repeat, do not state this lightly. Prior to the trip I had hurt my back and was feeling some residual pain in my back & hips. I was VERY concerned about sleeping because it can make or break a trip. The beds were great! I slept like a rock (when the thundering herd of rhinos above me weren't on the attack) and the pillows were awesome! They had 4 big, fluffy pillows per bed! Seriously, the pillows were so nice. I meant to snap a pic of the brand before I left but I forgot. I'm kind of a pillow freak. (I have 10 pillows on my bed at home for context.) This alone might be my solitary reason for tolerating some of the smaller issues.
* They have a cafe, bar with music and corn hole courtyard on site.
*You COULD walk to downtown though we chose to drive and park.
*Room darkening drapes. Need I say more?
* Small bistro table & chairs located just outside our room.
* We got to listen to the Jimmy Buffet concert for free out on our balcony.
* The balcony for was just such a nice spot. Honestly, I could live in a place like BODE, if I was 20-ish.
Overall, the place was pretty awesome. I would stay here again and I would recommend it but I gave it 4 stars because of the delayed entry, slight mold in the bathroom floor & parking. Other than that, it's a great spot.
