"Bodega Bay Oyster Company in Petaluma is really worth a stop, too. We got sandwiches for lunch there and picked up cheeses and fresh local oysters (like Miyagis and Kumamotos)."

Tried this place for the first time this past Saturday and it was super busy. I wanted to dine in and take oysters home. They had a pretty big menu and the a cute little shop. The lady at the counter was very kind and helpful, she walked me through how it all worked and told me about all the different oysters and their dine in options. Their dining room and picnic area was lovely. I'm definitely making this a regular stop when I'm in the area!

What a gem we discovered traveling from Petaluma to Bodega Bay. Cute bistro type atmosphere inside, great super fresh oysters and friendly service.

Not sure how this is such a big miss. I came in with my dad and uncle after a day of failed fishing. We were ready to buy 4 dozen oysters and thought what the hell let's do the taster platter each(6 oysters) to see what we like!(20$ a pop) The two young ladies at the front were perfectly friendly but obviously inexperienced teenagers so they weren't able to provide much information on the oysters. But whatever, we took our number and headed to the dining area Thinking that whoever delivered the oysters would tell us more. Somehow the staff in the dining room were worse! They. Did. Not. Give. A. F. We were one of two parties in the dining room and somehow it took them forever to deliver our food and the person who delivered them just sloppily dropped our oysters off and walked away. No one bothered to explain to us what each oyster was and they seemed annoyed we were there. I literally had to chase someone down to tell us what each oyster was but they were obviously irled that I did so and they explained so fast that it was hard to register. Then they immediately walked away. Needless to say we did not buy anything else. It's truly such a shame. This place has so much potential. The fact that it was so empty on a Saturday should've been a red flag but we just wanted to love this place so much.

Was so excited to try this place after reading the reviews and hearing great things. However, it was not a good experience. The service was lackluster and it seemed like no one cared if you were interested in the oysters or not and seemed like they were all annoyed to be working there. My family of 6 were celebrating a birthday, we came in ordered one wine flight, two assorted oyster flights and one of the baked assorted. The order was delivered and just set on the table with no care or explanation on what wine/oysters were which. The Chardonnay tasted off, other two wines were good, figured out which ones were which on my own. The baked oysters were pretty decent in flavor but gave us stomachaches later on which was a little worrisome. We waited and waited for the other two oyster trays since they never arrived and staff didn't seem to notice or care. Finally went back to the ladies at the register to ask and the rest of our order was completely forgotten. No apology really after those were delivered. Your oysters are good your service just needs to match. We almost bought another round of fresh oysters but I chose not to due to the hospitality, so you lost out on some revenue there. At this point I would not return or recommend Bodega Bay Oyster Co. based on the service received and warn and prepare others for what they may experience.

Visited 5/31/2025 The good - good location, nice outdoor seating, nice inside area as well, we ordered a total of three types of oysters at six oysters apiece - the oysters were delicious, the selection of beers was decent, they sell a little merch, so we bought a t-shirt. The bad - the young women at the cash register acted like they'd rather be anywhere else, as if helping a customer was a nuisance keeping them from their cell phone, and spoke very little. No hello, thank yous, anything. When our food arrived we did not know which oysters were which and the young man who delivered them didn't seem to know either. Nothing on the tray about which were which either. We managed to figure them out by comparing what we were tasting against our order. Overall worth stopping by if you like oysters, beer, and being treated like you're an inconvenience by staff.

Google
Came in for the first time yesterday (5/17) and tried their raw and grilled oysters and crab cakes. The oysters were so tasty and fresh and the woman behind the bar Who was shucking let us watch her shuck and told us about the company and the variety of the oysters we were trying They were slammed for lunch but everyone was very friendly and efficient. We'll definitely stop here again on our way to the coast

Google
Amazing unexpected find on the way back from Bodega Bay — we got a 6 oyster taster plate and accompanying wine flight for $30 and it totally hit the spot. Service was a bit abrupt but in a way I appreciated. Will def come back next time I’m up this way!

Google
We came on the perfect day to try quite a few of their oyster varieties. The DIY price is great but if you prefer not to have your hand accidentally poked by the shucker, go with the half shelf option, your order will be served up very promptly and oh boy, aren't they the freshest that can be! It is like a piece of heaven in your mouth.

Yelp
Just a quick update about BYOB. In their FAQ, they say no outside food or beverages are allowed, however on a recent trip there was a sign offering corkage for $15, which suggests to me that perhaps bringing outside wine is allowed, provided you pay the corkage fee. If you're planning to do this, it's probably best to call and confirm first. Other than that, nothing much has changed about this place. The best value is still to buy the oysters closed and to bring your own shucker and mignonette/condiments. $16/dozen for XS miyagis and $22/dozen for kumamotos as of Jan 2025.

Yelp
California Miyaki, Kumamoto, Atlantic, and Belon oysters were all very fresh, tasty and unique in their own ways. Will definitely spend a bit more to buy Belon next time. The oysters are very meaty and clean after we clean, shack and rinse with salt water. The staff was very friendly. We asked quite a lot of questions with th different types and she patiently answered us. She knows her oysters. Will definitely come back to try the clams and mussels. They were sold out. Was onw the way from Bodega Bay. Was going to drive to Marshall to our regular place at Tomales Bay Oyster Company. Stabled upon Bodega Bay Oyster and stopped. What a pleasant surprise. Nice little store, very clean, organized and bright.

Yelp
Great stop on the way back to the city after a long day of hiking! Right when you get in, you're invited into a cute souvenir store and the counter to order your food. We arrived around 2PM on a Saturday, and we were surprised that a couple of things had already sold out. We ordered for dine-in, although you can order oysters to-go with a shucking set to shuck your own oysters. We had small miyagi, Kumamoto, and Olympia oysters, as well as the Japanese bbq and I think the lemon butter grilled oysters. We also got some garlic bread and shrimp tacos to share. The oysters were delicious and very refreshing. I enjoyed the Kumamotos and miyagis the most, as well as the Japanese bbq grilled oysters. I was a bit sad that they were sold out of the chowder though. ):

Yelp
Great quality oysters! We each did the 6 piece raw oyster taster plate which comes with 1 of each type of oyster with some condiments. It came all shucked and the service was fast. I love that they also have a little market where you can buy cheese/cold meats/wine/canned fish/etc. and eat them with your oysters. There's seating inside and picnic tables outside as well. Though I would recommend sitting inside if you're not used to the cow smell.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying raw oysters! Amazing experience albeit pricey. Not the type of spot you go to if you're super hungry. My favorite were the extra small. I went on a Monday and it was nearly empty unlike when we drive by on weekends. Seating inside was very comfortable.

Yelp
We've been here before and unfortunately this time it was not what we had been expecting. Ordered a dozen for there so shucked... we got it essentially all shoved into a to go box as we were sitting outside enjoying a beer and cider we purchased there. None and I repeat none of the oysters were actually shucked. They were just served with the top shell off... we went and got a knife to shuck them ourselves. I bunch from the top shell being removed from had a bunch of shell parts in them. Not to mention the staff barely even acknowledged we existed. Would expect a better experience in general here. They just seemed not to care.

Yelp
Stopped by here on the way back from a day of crabbing, was excited for oysters on the half shell, but ended up ordering some other items. The seafood chowder wasn't that great, costs $14. Garlic bread was $5 for legit a slice of bread, just okay. Pickles were super sour, $8. Lobster roll was not lobster but crawfish. Also kind of mid, $18. Other than the oysters, don't order anything else here. Pretty disappointing. $20 for 1/2 dozen of Miyagi's $24 for 1/2 dozen of Belon's Probably better to pick up the bags of oysters and shuck them at home
google avatar

Jasmine D.

Yelp
My husband ordered half a dozen oysters and a lobster roll. Food took a looooong time to be delivered to our table, approximately 20-30 minutes. Good thing we weren't hangry, and eaten a little prior to coming here, otherwise we would be very disappointed. Plenty of picnic tables for outside dining (dog friendly!)

Yelp
It's crazy that you can do a bad oyster in Bodega Bay or in the Bay Area in general. The oysters and mignonette were fine. The cooked oysters were broiled nicely, the bread was good. The finishing of the cooked oysters, tacos and crab cakes felt rushed and like little thought was put into it.

Amy V.

Yelp
I came in on 11/11/24 around 9:30am and got 50 piece of the small miyagi oysters and 24 piece of the medium miyagi oysters. They were all fresh and delicious! I also purchased a pair of their gloves ($10) and shucker tool ($20). However, I noticed that after using the shucker tool to shuck all the 50 oysters, it chipped. I'm bummed out by it because the tool was expensive! The tool was great and I was able to open my oysters for the family but just sad that upon my first time using it, it chipped. Overall, I would come back if I'm ever in the area to come buy oysters!

Trang H.

Yelp
Bought some oysters Togo and they were soo good! The person at the cash register was also very nice. Very cute store that also has a restaurant side. Prices were reasonable.

Iryna V.

Yelp
Those oysters were fresh and so delicious. Can't wait for the next time to eat them more.

Yelp
Had some tasty oysters from here, I am not an oyster person but my family that did enjoy it loved them. So def go for the raw oysters! I myself and some other family members had the cooked oysters and some other items since we didn't want raw oysters. These were quite overpriced and tasted quite OK. The garlic butter oysters were quite delicious and well seasoned whereas the Japanese flavored ones were way too salty. We also got garlic bread (meh), shrimp tacos (way too much sauce and few shrimp), salmon bagels (standard), and clam chowder (too thick and overpowered by black pepper). Def recommend if you like raw oysters but if not pass! If you don't like them, bring your own food and have a picnic on their lawn with someone who does love oysters.

Yelp
Came here for some barbecue oysters because I saw People recommending this place online. It was quite a nice place, it's like a oyster bar inside people sitting here having oysters and beer, really chill. I thought barbecue oysters might be too salty to me, the Japanese style BBQ oysters are a little bit too salty, they added some crunchiness in which is good adding different texture, but overall it might be just cooked for a little bit too long. But if you like cooked oysters and no 'sea' taste , definitely a place to check out.

Yelp
Always fresh oysters and relaxing outdoor settings. Multiple oyster type and price options. Friendly service.

Yelp
This place is really cool. The inside is very nice and welcoming. The menu is limited but everything is fresh and delicious. I've been here a few times for oysters in the past which were excellent. Today I stopped by for a BLTA before hitting the Links at Bodega Harbour. This was probably the best BLTA I've ever had. The bread was toasted crispy but soft. The bacon was fire. The tomatoes, lettuce, avocado and aoli were all perfect. I highly recommend stopping here especially on your way to or from the course. Enjoy!

Yelp
3.5/5 I ordered the Raw on the Half Shell - Taster Plate, which consisted of 1/2 dozen oysters (two of each type), as well as 1/2 dozen small Miyagi oysters. Raw on the Half Shell was more expensive, as they shucked the oysters for you. If you have the skills, I'd advise bringing your own tools and getting the Closed Shell. If you don't have shucks, you can rent one from them, which would still be a lot cheaper. You can get almost twice the amount of oysters within a similar price range, if you order Closed Shell. The oysters tasted nice and fresh, but I probably wouldn't come back unless I shuck my own oysters.

Yelp
I'm not even an oyster person and I really enjoyed Bodega Bay Oyster Company! My husband wanted to come here for some raw oysters and clams. They didn't have clams due to the storms/weather that hit California in January, but we were informed they typically always have clams. My husband was struggling to shuck one of his oysters in their outdoor seating area when an employee came outside and helped him out. It was such a unexpected and extremely generous gesture. I feel like it's such a rarity to find genuinely kind people, and it really made my day. While perusing their Yelp page, I realized they also prepared grilled oysters (sold as six oysters on the half shelf. They also sell other items like chowder and tacos). Even though I typically dislike eating oysters, I figured I may as well try those while waiting for my husband to eat his raw ones. I ordered their taster plate so I could try each of the three various ways they flavored their grilled oysters: Poblano Crema, Thai Chile Lime, and Lemon Garlic Butter. Each were delicious! The flavors were really good and the texture had none of that slime that I hate when I've tried oysters other times. Highly recommend Bodega Bag Oyster Company for their above and beyond customer service and excellent oysters. Even if you don't like oysters, I'd recommend giving their grilled ones a try!

Yelp
Great oysters! Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. Great place to hang out. Cool stuff in the shop.

Terri J.

Yelp
Nothing special, service and presentation were very much lacking. Set the tray of oysters down, (they were just ok but full of shell) walk away, don't bother telling us which are which etc.... Saving grace is that it's dog friendly...find another place for ambience and extras...

Camp F.

Yelp
I've been buying oysters and clams from Bodega Bay Oyster Company at the Alemany Farmer's market for over 20 years. In November 2023 I purchased 2 pounds of clams that consisted almost entirely of empty shells and mudders. I got a refund; but, my dinner plans were ruined. I took a year break from buying from them but recently started buying from them again without a problem until yesterday when I purchased 2 pounds of clams and a dozen kumamoto oysters. When I rinsed them the oysters at home, the rinse water turned really dark so I started checking the oysters by trying to open the shells. Over 35 were empty and about a half of those contained mud. One "mudder" could ruin a meal; but, 15 would be a disaster. If you buy from this company test every clam to see if it opens. The empty shells are useless but not harmful. The ones containing mud definitely need to be separated. In the past, I only found one mudder in a batch and often none. For some reason, the number of mudders has increased significantly.

Yelp
We always see bodega bay oyster company every time we head up to spud point crab company. Always wanted to stop by to check it out.. bodega bay oyster offers a varietal of different oysters shucked or unshucked. The family ahead of us purchased 300 oysters to take home. Something to think about on the drive back after crab sandwiches!! Lol! We tried the half dozen Kumimoto..very tasty, fresh and sweet. We also tried the bbq and garlic butter.. I preferred the garlic butter as the oyster had a creamy texture. The location has both indoor and outdoor seating.. they also offer to host private events as well. Nice spot. Will have to check out Hog Island oyster further down r

Yelp
Found this gem on my way to Occidental! The staff were so friendly and the oysters were delicious! We got the fresh sampler plate and the grilled sampler plate. There's a huge picnic area outside which is perfect for when the suns out! Everyone once in a while we got smells of cow manure and seaweed. If you don't like that smell sit inside!
google avatar

Vik T.

Yelp
GOOD QUALITY oysters overall! We got 50 kumoto oyster - got about 6-7 empty ones but also were given about 10 extras, so it's about the same overall. They have a spacious backyard sitting area, so you can cook or open your own oysters. *BRING YOUR OWN oyster knife! Do not order half-shell oyster as they are double-priced! Will visit again, but will only get closed-shall oysters.
google avatar

Brandon U.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best fresh bulk oysters available. Smack a few down while your picking up a few dozen for that dinner party.
google avatar

Elaine N.

Yelp
Bodega Bay Oyster is THE best place the get fresh oysters. Whether you're dining in or picking up some to shuck at home, you really can't go wrong. On our recent trip to Sea Ranch with the fam, we stopped by to buy some fresh oysters... and left with 3 dozen oysters, lemons, homemade cocktail and mignonette sauces, and an oyster shucker. It was the perfect one stop shop for all our needs. Service was friendly and they always give you a few extra oysters in case you come across some bad ones! I rarely (if ever) run across a bad oyster from this place. We love the Kumomoto and Extra Small Miyagi and will definitely be stopping by next time for these little guys.

Yelp
My parents really, really wanted oysters. And I always want free food lol. So we drove the 2.5hrs to Bodega Bay Oyster Company. And it was worth it! We ordered the grilled oyster sampler, garlic bread, and seafood chowder. They were all so delicious! I don't even like oysters, at least raw. But having them grilled was so yummy. I assume the sampler changes, but ours that day were Japanese (like a soy vinaigrette with tempura flakes), lime cilantro, a seaweed one, and garlic butter. I liked the garlic butter and Japanese ones the best. I usually don't like the texture of oysters, but having the grilled have them a meatier texture I can handle. The seafood chowder was comfort in a cup on such a cold day. I remember it had tilapia, but I can't recall the other seafood. Nonetheless, if it's available, definitely get it. And also the garlic bread too for dipping. I did buy the salmon roll to share after we finished our "first course." No regrets because I was already stuffed, and it was also delicious! I'm pretty sure it had celery in it because I could taste hints of it. Now, I hate the taste of celery. But this sandwich was so good, I didn't mind it at all. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We had to sit outside because of our dog, but we didn't mind. The food also came out pretty quickly. And the people there are super friendly. And don't forget to do some shopping. They have some kitschy stuff, food products, and of course oysters. My parents bought medium-sized oysters for grilling at a party the next day. We served them with a lemon butter sauce and chili water (and it went so well with the briny-ness of the oysters). I could've eaten the entire order, but that would be rude to the other guests lol. I know there are lots of places to get oysters, but definitely check out Bodega Bay Oyster Company!

Yelp
We visited twice in mid October and loved it here! From the Yelp reviews, it seems like people are having pretty extreme experiences, either wonderful or terrible. While I understand a bad oyster is a bad oyster, I still think the atmosphere is a unique kind of "Bodega Bay" charming that you don't want to miss, and the customer service and dedication of the staff is pretty clear to me. On weekends they have "backyard barbecue" and you can have your oysters grilled. They serve them up a few different ways, and whichever ones we had, we wanted more. The raw were of course fresh, cold, and delicious. The grilled were charred and buttery and garlicky. The horseradish, cocktail sauce, and mignonette were all thumbs up. We ate outside at a picnic table and enjoyed the sun. The little shop itself has all kinds of snacky, charcuterie-type goodies for sale. Chips and olives and such. They also have seafood chowder and grilled cheese and ciders and wines. You can shuck your own oysters, if you want! Not something I'm really interested in doing, but a pretty interesting attraction I think. I mean it doesn't get any fresher than eating an oyster immediately out of its shell as soon as it's opened. Do that here!!
google avatar

Shanna K.

Yelp
Pass. Stopped in for a quick bite and we just weren't all that impressed. The food was ok. The grilled oysters were tasty enough but over $3 each is high in my experience. The grilled shrimp had no seasoning at all, not even salt and pepper. The blue cheese cranberry walnut salad was fine but small. Small wine and beer selection but we didn't partake this time. More than that we were surprised with the apathetic service. Barely a hello and frankly an unpleasant overall vibe of annoyance. I wouldn't mind higher than normal prices if there was a compelling reason to return but, sadly I don't see one.

Erol V.

Yelp
Service is nice. Fresh oysters unbeatable. Nice experience, I will go back definitely with friends and families will recommend I was very glad I discovered the place. Price is not bad.
google avatar

Jorydude R.

Yelp
Sold us overcooked bbq oysters. We were like the 2nd customer in there. I think it's over priced and not so good. Been here a few times over the years. You cannot be complacent with your food. It's simply unacceptable. Or we just go somewhere else!
google avatar

Dave P.

Yelp
Service is terrible. Food is not that great either. Just felt like I need to get out of this place
google avatar

Yelp
While visiting the Tomales Bay area, it is surprising that you would come ALLL the way over here for oysters....BUT this place is (an unlikely and) solid spot for oysters. Sure, you don't get the views of the ponds and bodies of water that the oysters are being raised in, but you get pretty solid deals for FRESH oysters! I opted for a dozen of the extra small Miyagi's and was happy to discover a few extra oysters. I brought them home to show off my shucking skills and enjoyed them ASAP. They were delicious and fresh! Definitely enjoyed the speed and price of this oyster shop!
google avatar

Mia S.

Yelp
Worth a visit! Pros: Parking is easier and more plentiful here than other oyster joints in the general area (Hog Island or Tomales Bay). It's really clean and stylish and feels modern. There is a great selection of snacks like crab dip, crackers, wine, and other additions to your oyster meal. The merch is also cute. Lots of seating! Bartop, tables, and outdoor seating. Cons: I thought some of the oysters were laughably small, meaning they shouldn't have counted. Considering the price, I think you really get like 4 decent-sized oysters. (Most half dozens are $20+). Overall, I would come again and have--this was my second visit. I like how clean everything always is and enjoy the selection of goods.
google avatar

Janice J.

Yelp
Stopped by on the way back to SF. Got a bag of 50 medium sized oysters to share between 8 people. We shucked all 50 buy ourselves. Getting unshucked oysters are much cheaper. They sell sauces there too. I recommend the Thai chili sauces, which isn't spicy at all. They could've upped the ante a little. It was also their best sauce. The medium sized oysters are like 3 times the size of the oysters you'd get for happy hour in SF. 3-4 medium sized oysters are probably enough if you aren't a huge oyster fan. I was already pushing it at 5 oysters. Great experience when you're with a group. Great value too.

Yelp
We have stopped at Bodega Bay Oyster Company a few times before but this was the first time we tried the shrimp tacos! $32 dollars for two orders of street tacos was a bit pricey but also similar pricing to the area. Shrimp was cooked perfect and we enjoyed the avocado and greens on the side. My group all agreed that the sauce on top was the real showstopper! Also got oysters and clams and they were amazing as usual!
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
Love the casual vibe and picnic like atmosphere. Great place to stop before or after a beach trip. Oysters are delicious and staff was super friendly!
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Tiny little oyster house with a variety of oysters served fresh on the half shell or grilled. They also have a small selection of wine and beer. Very friendly staff. They have picnic benches outside so you can either dine in or take the oysters to go. We opted to try one each of the fresh and grilled sampler platters. The oysters were very fresh and flavorful.
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
You know I'm not the biggest oyster person but I enjoyed some of these (the second and third row pictured) while the big one packed a much brinier punch. Oysters come out fast and you can choose from a variety of dipping sauces. They also sell other stuff too (I saw someone get a clam chowder bread bowl which I'd love to try sometime)!!! The store is SUPER cute with lots of good gifts to buy. This is apparently a must-go place according to the locals so glad I could try it. There's a really large, sprawling outdoor seating area with picnic tables. Free parking and bathrooms available.

Yelp
Fresh beer, wine, food items and gifts and, of course, oysters! What a great way to end a day drive! A friend and I stopped in coming back inland from the coast for some oysters. 1/2 a dozen shucked oysters cost around $20 - yes, 12 oysters costs around $40, and they were yummy. All of the standard accoutrements were offered - horseradish, cocktail sauce, mignonette (with no onions in it because they use a squeeze bottle to pour it out... you can't win them all, I guess), etc. We got there pretty late in a Sunday afternoon so no one was around. You bus your own table, too. All in all a pleasant experience!
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
I ordered a dozen of the medium sized oysters, they were live (very fresh) and delicious. They came in a bag with ice so if you are not planning on enjoying them there they will stay alive in an ice chest. Service was very friendly, they even showed me how to shuck an oyster with an oyster shucker since I was struggling with a butter knife. There are picnic tables and 1 BBQ so you can eat the oysters fresh. There is a small store that carries all the essential items and sides to enjoy the oysters fresh (lemon, seasonings, hot sauce, etc.) Clams were not in stock when I visited so I will need to come back to enjoy fresh clams. They also sell BBQ oysters and alcoholic drinks. Prices for fresh oysters and clams are consistent with the other farms in the area.
google avatar

Yulia F.

Yelp
Unfortunately I got sick from their oysters. They have amazing pickled vegetables though. Service was sort of nonexistent. For the same price you can find oysters in other places with better service.
google avatar

Yvette G.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on our mini-moon at the referral from our catering chef for our wedding. We are so happy that he did! We ordered the seafood chowder and variety of oysters. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh. The chowder was probably one of the best chowder's I have ever had. There were various chunks of meat and it was well seasoned. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Clean, tidy and friendly staff.. we stopped here on our way to the coast for drag oysters and chilled beer and some other items.. a perfect stop for a small meal break along the way! Highly recommend it

Yelp
I have driven past this place a million times but have never stop until today! This place is a modern oyster & beer bar. It's got a nice inside & outside area for an intimate party of 2 or a large party. As for service my order was totally messed up. I ordered a clam chowder bread bowl and they served it in a cup $5 extra for the bread, so I wasn't leaving without one... We ordered a bbqed sampler and it was ok. We also ordered some oysters to go. They shucked some for us but we didn't want them shucked since they were for a party later. The lady tried to give them to me in a to geo box! We explained that shucked oysters weren't going to fly. They were apologetic at that point. To make the confusion right they gave us extra and the bread bowl I paid for. This review may sound like a complaint but I was so pleased with the extra oysters and the apology that I was happy with the end result. It is so rare that people apologize or try and make the situation right by giving you a little extra. Is it really worth the online complaint and the word of mouth the the place is a rip off? Thank you Bodega Bay oysters! Oysters. Kumomoto was great the Olympia was good but the meyogi tasted like a mouthful of ocean!!

Yelp
It's been years since I last ventured out to the oyster farms north of SF, and I was sad to discover that both Tomales Bay and Hog Island had closed down their picnic set ups in that time. But luckily you can still go to Bodega Bay Oyster to get your oyster picnic game on. Sure it's not quite as scenic as the other spots were - it's inland rather than next to the water - but it's still a fun way to enjoy oysters We got the Kumamoto to shuck ourselves + rented a shucker (you can also buy them already shucked but there's a steep mark up - $20 for 6 vs $18 for 12). Note that the Kumamoto are not the classic oysters you think of - these ones are much much smaller but also meatier. My friends had sampled all the different oysters here before and said the Kumamoto were their fave. But the real standout was the taster plate of grilled oysters. The flavors were quite distinctive (Japanese BBQ, lemon garlic butter, cilantro lime butter, sesame seaweed butter) and just were so good. Don't miss this. (Okay and I might be a bit biased because I just like cooked oysters more than raw oysters). Great option for a quick trip from SF with friends.

Yelp
5 stars, 5 stars, 5 staaaars! YEEESSS! And let me tell you why: Not only are the oysters the bomb diggity, but the SERVICE is just stellar! Passed by Bodega Bay Oyster Co on the way to the beach this past weekend, and couldn't stop thinking about oysters once I made it to the beach. I decided to drop by on my way back home to get some oyster goodness. This shop is conveniently located off hwy 1 on the drive to and from Bodega Bay. It's smallish inside, but this little baby stocks everything that you need when it comes to oyster land. So let me tell you a lil' bit about myself; ya girl is SPOILED when it comes to oysters. Up until now, I had never shucked my own oysters before. Always ordered them on the half shell and called it a day. I was about ready to do the same thing when I got here until they told me that they stopped selling shucked oysters at 4 pm. At first I was kind of disappointed, but I was so determined to get my oyster fix. I purchased them anyways. My next mistake was trying to order the "large" oysters like I knew what the hell I was talking about. The young lady at the counter immediately told me that the large oysters were humongous. She even showed me what they looked like in the case and recommended that I stick with the small size. Of course I took her advice! The smalls were actually a great size. But, can you believe what just happened here? Homegirl saved me from making a big mistake. Most people would probably just give me what I asked for without even questioning me. I mean, the large oysters are a lot pricier. But she was so honest. She told me that they had oyster shuckers for sale there for $20. Yeah... wasn't trying to pay $20 for that little tool when I could probably get it for half price. So, what did she do instead? She let me borrow their glove and oyster shucker, and I went out on their patio and shucked those bad boys! My first time EVER shucking my own damn oysters. Oh, how liberating it was! I don't know what it was, but I just felt so damn accomplished. And it was fun! Oh yeah and by the way; these oysters were so incredibly FRESH, meaty, and effing delicious!!! Wow! Ain't nothing... NOTHING like some freshly shucked oysters boooooy!!! I mean Geezus. Got a dozen for $16 which seemed like a great price to me, but I can only compare it to what I've paid for shucked oysters (we all know those cost an arm and leg). Shoutout to them for throwing an extra oyster in my bag!!! Yep. I noticed that too. It's the little things that make a big difference sometimes. The people here are the friggin' friendliest and their patio is so cute and quaint. I'm sure it doesn't get nearly as packed here as it would at Hog Island or Tomales Bay, but that's what I think is an advantage here. Came back home and slurped those puppies down in pure enjoyment. I mean damn... what a GEM! I've been thinking about this place ever since I left and have already started planning my next visit. It's 100% worth the stop sooo do it, do it, dooo it!!! So for all of you oyster fanatics out there; add Bodega Bay Oyster Co to your list! They definitely won't disappoint.

Yelp
Fresh oysters available to-go or shucked right on the main road! Great location, super convenient. Oysters are fresh and delicious. Not the "cheapest" spot to grab oysters, but the quality is there (especially if you're not looking to shuck your own). About $20/dozen for small miyagi oysters to-go (ie. Not shucked). They throw them on ice in a plastic bag and you can find a nice sheltered cove to shuck and enjoy! Would swing by again the next time I'm headed to Bodega Bay.

Yelp
My review is based on the quality of the oysters we had picked up for us from here..their phone message is very detailed and made it easy for us to choose our oysters...we picked up 50 of the medium Miyagi's ..they were big for medium in my opinion..they averaged 5"-6" in length. I grilled them over lump charcoal and when they opened slightly pulled them off to cool ...we got several of their sauces to go with ...all very tasty..my favorite was the horseradish type cocktail sauce ..the oysters were extremely fresh and some of the best we'd all had ...service was excellent..upon arrival they were literally sweeping up but very willingly invited our friends in for service...we look forward to getting back here !
