Another Vegan Restaurant Leaves San Francisco’s Saluhall | Eater SF

"A Sacramento restaurant known for its “California-pan-Caribbean” cuisine closed as of Saturday, November 15, with co-owner Rafael Jimenes Rivera citing rising costs and decreasing sales as the reasons for shutting down." - Dianne de Guzman

The Best Restaurants in Sacramento, Roseville, and Elk Grove | Eater SF

"Unless you’re fortunate enough to have somebody’s enterprising auntie on speed dial, Caribbean food is still relatively few and far between in Northern California. Thankfully, Bodega Kitchen and Cocktails provides a sampling across the region, including traditional plates of beans, rice, maduros, a selection of Caribbean-spiced proteins like jerk chicken and grilled pork, and doubles heaped with curried goat or chickpeas, for a plant-based option. Tucked away in the suburban Greenhaven area of Sacramento, one step inside, Bodega takes care with its details, especially when it comes to its condiments: empanadas and burgers are served with a requisite mix of mayonnaise and ketchup found across the Caribbean, and the briny heat of Haitian pikliz accompanies their fish tacos." - Tamerra Griffin

Best New and Most Anticipated Sacramento Area Restaurants This Fall | Eater SF

"At 6401 Riverside Boulevard in the Pocket, I watched successful pop-ups evolve into a permanent pan‑Caribbean spot led by Rafael Jimenez Rivera and partners. The cubano—made on Jamaican coco bread so it soaks up the tangy sauces—has emerged as a crowd-pleaser, and the mussels are brothy and fragrant with a coconut, lemongrass, cilantro, and garlic emulsion. Hearty vegan options include Trinidadian “doubles” (turmeric flatbread with curried chickpeas, pickled mango, and red onion), and the kitchen balances spiced dishes with cool “island wines” from the Greek and Canary islands." - Vanessa Labi

Complex Guidelines Force San Francisco Restaurants to Remove Parklets | Eater SF

"I read that a trio of Sacramento industry vets plan to open Bodega, billed as the city’s first expressly Puerto Rican restaurant, in March at 6401 Riverside Blvd. in the Greenhaven neighborhood; it will serve both “tacos and burgers with island touches” and “traditional dishes” including Jamaican patties and tripleta." - Lauren Saria

We are arrived to a cheerful greeting and an invitation to choose our seats. After studying the menú, we chose their signature platter with guava BBQ shrimp and their smash burger. The shrimp was tangy and the arroz con gandules was flavorful and not mushy. The maduros were a bit overcooked but still retained it's sweetness with a hint of salt. The Coconut Nojito is worth a return trip even if you're not hungry. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. Knocked off one star because the one working restroom in a dark hallway had a leaky sink and am out of order urinal across from the toilet. This dining spot is located in a neighborhood shopping center. The advantage is plenty of free parking. The quirk is various folks wandering aimlessly. The interior vibe, food, and staff is worth additional visits.

Google
The Bodega Kitchen and Cocktails is a must-visit restaurant, serving up classic Puerto Rican dishes alongside creative American fusion cuisine. Their menu features weekly specials that never disappoint, and the craft cocktails are just as impressive as the food. Not only does the kitchen deliver incredible flavors, but the talented bartenders also elevate the experience. With excellent service and a vibrant atmosphere, this spot is a top recommendation. Don’t miss out—come try it for yourself!

Google
This is our neighborhood go to bar and restaurant. The bar is our favorite part but the food is excellent as well. I love the Lechon Asado fries. The staff is always friendly and efficient. They make us feel like family. Don't miss this opportunity to have excellent Puerto Rican and Caribbean food. And if that isn't your thing, they make the best burgers....double beef patties!

Google
Unique atmosphere and interesting menu. I was in a hurry so just got the Smash burger. I would like to come back and try some other food because it all looked pretty good. The burger was fine and my only real complaint was the price. This just didn't hit me as a $20 burger (plus tax and tip). Yea everything is expensive now. I get that, but this seemed a bit steep. What do I know though, they had more exotic things to try and I probably should have. Fries were good. Service was on the ball. Quick, friendly and left me alone to eat. Look forward to trying other menu items in the future.

Google
We rolled in as a party of 6 for dinner and got seated with no wait. We quickly got water all around and were asked for drink orders. Our food arrived hot and tasty. The chef makes a light green colored dipping sauce that is absolutely amazing. We were all impressed with the food and the service. We'll definitely be back !!

Google
Vibrant and relaxing atmosphere with delicious food and drinks. We were there just in time for happy hour, 3-6pm. Everyone was so kind! We had a great time playing trivia!

Google
Where do I start? My dining experience was a delightful journey through flavors. The strawberry margarita was exceptional—perfectly balanced between the sweetness and a kick of alcohol, I savored every last sip. The mojito was just as impressive, refreshing and seemingly endless. The beef empanadas were a standout, delivering a burst of flavor in every bite. The fish taco? Beyond delicious! The fish was perfectly seasoned and wonderfully non-greasy, allowing the flavors to shine through. The jerk chicken wings were good, though I felt they could use a bit more seasoning for an extra kick. Our server was attentive and provided excellent customer service from start to finish. Plus, the daily happy hour from 3-6 is a fantastic bonus! I will definitely be back to enjoy more of these tasty offerings.

Manuel N.

Google
Caribbean restaurant in the greater Sac area. Food was tasty and had much of the Puerto Rican flavor one is looking for. The pork shoulder with rice and pigeon pees was great. The cocktails were above average and nicely complemented the food. Service was superb. The decor is OK and there are plenty of tables. The bar area seems big and with a good selection of spirits. Overall, will recommend to visit this place.

Yelp
Bodega Kitchen and Cocktails is located in the corner of a plaza and could easily be missed. Don't let that happen to you as this hidden gem serves up very flavorful cuisine. With authentic flavors and food items, there's not many like it around town. Bodega serves up food from the Caribbean Islands. One of their most popular dishes is their jerk chicken. They have this both as a chicken wing appetizer and as a plated dinner. I personally really enjoy white meat when it comes to chicken and the dinner plate was leg and thigh so I opted to go with the wing appetizer. My only complaint about it was its size. I thought it could have had more wings as I thoroughly enjoyed each one with the jerk sauce I added to it. The wings were very crisp on the outside and full of flavor. Adding the jerk sauce or their house made hot sauces enhanced the flavor even more. I could really see myself coming just for these wings! I also had the Cubano sandwich. This hot, pressed sandwich has ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard. It's a popular item that also is bursting with flavor. The combination of all the ingredients was mouthwatering. It comes with a side of fries to round out the meal. Service at Bodega was very nice. We found the servers to be very patient with us and the food came out reasonably. I was specifically there for a birthday party where we had cake being served from outside the restaurant. Bodega has a cake cutting charge, but seeing our tiny cake they waived it for us! It's a cute restaurant and definitely different than many you will find around Sacramento. If you're in the pocket area, Bodega is well worth a visit!

Yelp
I recently was in town for a conference. I had not eaten all day..being so busy talking to people so when 5pm hit...I was starving!! It would have been very easy to just hit up In and Out , but I said fuck it lets trying and find something more diverse. I quickly brainstormed and decided to find somewhere with Jerk Wings. VOILA...i stumbled across Bodega Kitchen and Cocktails. I got to the restaurant at 5:45...15minutes of Happy Hour left SCORE!!!!. I told the bartender not to spare the Tajin on my Margarita and keep them coming!!! They were absolutely solid with fresh lime juice and syrups!! I think I had three in 15 minutes ...hey happy hour ended at 6 = ) As for food, I ordered up the Jerk Wings and the Yuca fries with mojo aioli . I've spent a good amount of time sampling real Caribbean food in the NYC area. Both of these dishes hit on all notes. The Jerk Wings were crisp, spicy, and packed with flavor!!! The Yuca fries were light and airy and that dip is fucking addictive !!!! The Chef/Owner happen to come out to the bar while I was hanging out, I spoke to him for awhile. He was also former New Yorker. I enjoyed hearing about his vision and his families Puerto Rican background. A very great dining experience to end my short stay in Sacramento. Check it out, there was probably ten other things on the menu I woulda loved to try.

Yelp
Recently visited this location! Trendy bodega vibe bar/restaurant, definitely felt it walking in. We were able to seat ourselves, and our server was quick to see us. We ordered the plantain nachos, jerk chicken, guava shrimp, and pineapple upside down cake. Our party ordered margaritas, which they said was on the stronger side. Our food was good, we also ordered yucca fries but our server forgot. Our favorite was their plantains. Their dessert was a bit dry, but flavor was good. All in all, good experience.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
I came here for dinner with a friend, and we decided to share a pitcher of mojito, the King Salad, and the Jerk Chicken Bodega Plate. For dessert, we went with the guava pastry. The salad was fresh and tasty, though I felt the passionfruit vinaigrette could've had a stronger passionfruit flavor. The Jerk Chicken Bodega Plate, however, was a standout which was packed with flavor and perfectly paired with their arroz con gandules, maduros and plantains. Our server, Alexis, was wonderful and gave us great recommendations on what to order. We were a bit disappointed that the beef empanadas were sold out, but that just gives us a reason to come back next time. We'll definitely be returning!

Yelp
This place is really charmy (is this a word?) From the decor to the furniture/seating, you can tell they wanted to present Cuba in Sacramento! The service was on point and the food was delicious. I really appreciate this restaurant and think it's a gem

Yelp
I came here for a "mixology" event a year ago and my first impression was that this place was great! When my parents asked if I wanted to meet them here for happy hour, there was no hesitation. We got situated. There was one server but only three couples then three people at the bar top. This experience was not good and I will not be going back. The server we had wasn't good. He messed up our order, he didn't make eye contact with anyone at the table, just not comfortable vibes. The drinks themselves were good. We had mojitos. The food however, was extremely bland. We asked for fries and received the Yucitas Fritas. We also ordered the beef empanada and jerk wings. Wasn't impressed with anything and wasn't worth the price to be honest. Cute interior though. I do like the colorful walls and decorations.

Monica R.

Yelp
I liked what we ordered, but I didn't know they changed the menu and I took my sister there because she wanted to try the Oxtail plate as an entree and they didn't have it. Bummer

Yelp
Okay so Boom, came here two years ago. Some girl made me the best Mai tai ever... the food to me wasn't amazing (keep in mind I'm Trini and I tried the doubles and... chile. I knew it was Puerto Rican so why tf did I think the doubles would be good) but this year I was like lemme come back... chile so glad I did!! Had the plantain nachos and loaded asado fries both 10/10 (fries had sweet and salty flavor) and nachos were absolutely loaded with seasoned beef and plantain cooked to perfection. My husband had an old fashioned which was top 3 and not the 3! And I had a couple shots of tequila. Lo, our bartender was extremely attentive and did a shot with us! All and all I will be back definitely monthly for a night out. 10/10 experience... I ate too fast before taking pics but here's a photo of my fire Paloma! Great ambiance at the bar

Yelp
Good food and drinks. Recommend the old fashioned and Cubano sandwich. Nice atmosphere from the fun decor to the soft but colorful lighting and light music playing. Always great service.

Yelp
UPDATE: I've been going to Bodega regularly since my first review, and they've gotten better and better. The menu changes regularly with new items (right now there are several new vegan dishes being offered), and they are constantly doing fun events. We had a delicious, traditional roasted pig meal for their 2 year anniversary, and right now I'm here for a "make your own" old fashioned event! Their cocktail game has been elevated so high since my first time, with some drinks that have rivaled the best bars i've been to. The vibes are awesome, the food is great, and the cocktails are on point! I hope this place is able to finally break the curse of this location! Incredible food, mixed drinks, and service. I've never had a C sandwich in this style, and it rocked my world. The "Gina Colada" tasted nothing like a pina colada... and also rocked my world. The dude at the register was super patient with my parents and their weird order preferences, and everyone who worked just seemed chill as hell. It's rare to get a place like this in south sac, and Im happy it still has the "hang out" atmosphere the bar it replaced had. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is a friendly neighborhood restaurant that caters well to those that want a good cocktail menu and small plates. The entrees for dinner on the evening i was there (Thursday) were only 5 + a Thursday night turkey sandwich. I ordered the Cubano sandwich which was nicely toasted and filled with a variety of proteins. My sandwich was very good. I also had a glass of the French red wine which was good and sensibly priced. My friend ordered the double burger "smash burger" and she ate every bite which lead me to believe she loved it. I'll be back.

Yelp
Arroz con Gandules-good Mofongo- mediocre Empanadas- not good Pernil(pork)-very good Tostones(fried plantain)- good Maduros(sweet plantains)- mediocre Avocado-slices were paper thin and small

Kai A.

Yelp
These Lechon pulled pork fries are DELISH!. Must try and the empanadas are yummy too.

Yelp
Came here for some happy hour and try out the menu. . Plantain sandwich- with cheese, mayo, and pulled pork and beef mix with 2 slices of plantain as the bun was really good. It was different and felt healthy with out the carbs. I love drenching this in the habenero sauce and pineapple spicy sauce too. . Jamaican jerk chicken wings - loved the char grilled wings cooked to perfection. It served on a sizzling platter with sprinkling the sauces to make it sizzle. . Tacos with pulled pork and nacho cheese was crispy thin and savory. . Overall the ambiance is casual inside. When you walk in grab the menu and sit at a table. The inside has lots of seating. The service was great. The food was comforting, different and is great for someone adventurous. I do see veggie and vegan options which I liked. Hope this review helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day!

Yelp
I ordered the Maduros, jerk wings, and empanadas. I had an old fashion for my beverage. The jerk wings were fantabulous, and the empanadas were off the chain. The plantains were a little dry.

Jason V.

Yelp
First time here, awesome place. We ordered tostones, jerk chicken and rice. The food tasted amazing. I also tried a glass of Coquito (puertorican drink), and it was delicious. Thank you Anthony for your service and for being attentive to my food allergy restrictions.

Yelp
I visited Bodega Kitchen & Cocktails on Tuesday, 3/26/24, around 2 PM for lunch. For the appetizer, I tried the Yuca Fries with Mojo Aioli. The fries were deliciously light and airy. The aioli sauce paired well with fries. For the entree, I got the Braised Oxtail dish. It came with arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), avocado, tostones, and pickled veggies. The entire plate was palatable. The meat was tender and the rice with peas was beyond delicious. For the drink, I got Cranberry juice. It was refreshing. The restaurant staff members were attentive and friendly. I also loved the inside of the restaurant. It was inviting, vibrant, and colorful. All of the decor as well as the wall art were fantastic. Overall, this restaurant is truly wonderful. I will return here in the future.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant for my wife's birthday and we loved it! Food was really good and authentic!

Yelp
We were going to see the new Bob Marley movie and wanted to find some grub that was on theme and Bodega didn't disappoint! We ordered the empeñadas and fried jerk chicken sandwich with yucca fries. The flavors were all on point and the cooking was done to perfection. The slaw on that sandwich was . The menu has a lot of interesting options which made it difficult to narrow down, guess we'll have to come back ‍. The service was very friendly and helpful but also let us be to enjoy our dinner. The interior was a nice mix of sit down intimacy and small sports bar vibes. All in all I'd recommend if you are looking for some good authentic Jamaican food.
google avatar

Yelp
We tried the Bodega restaurant which is in the Pocket/Greenhaven area. The staff was friendly and professional. The food was just okay. We had the Ox Tail, which didn't have that much flavor. The burger was very salty. Also, the French Fries were very salty. The vibe seemed pretty cool inside with a large bar area. We had lunch there on a Saturday afternoon, so curious to see how the dinners might be different?

Yelp
Been wanting to try Bodega for a while and finally made my way there. It's got a nice energy, lots of people having a good time, and a lot of people at the bar on a Friday night. Out waiter was really cool, and he had a great name which we both share. The food ordering system was number based, they leave a number on a stand at your table, and assign your items to a tab. I wasn't sure if you are suppose to bring the number to the bar to pay or just ask your server. But they got my money in the end no problemo. The food was pretty good but not mindblowing. I tried the jerk wings and they had a great sear and was served very hot in cute little cast iron dishes. I can't help comparing to a hole in the wall jerk chicken place next to FB HQ in Menlo Park that actually was mindblowing. I also tried the braised oxtail which was served very tender on a nice bed of tasty rice. The meat could have used more seasoning I think, but all the little sides like pickled veggies and avocados help augment the flavor. My dining companions had the seared prawns and said it was very good too. My wife had the Penil and she said it was decent but she seemed more impressed by the yucca fries. I'd love to go back and try their burger, cubano, and mussels w/ chorizo. Looking forward to experiencing a little slice of Cuba in my neighborhood!
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
Menu wasn't huge but what they had on the menu was extremely authentic tasting. Service was great - granted we got there when they first opened. We had a party of 12 so needed the best table! Kinda minimalist but again - authentic. Full bar and even has dessert options.

Yelp
So my bestie and I decided to meet up for some holiday cheer and happy hour. We chose Bodega Kitchen and Cocktail because my friend said it's decorated really cute for Christmas. Wow, that was an understatement! I mean, look at this place! There was so much holiday cheer, I absolutely loved it! I don't even think the pictures I took truly captured the festiveness in here. Even their menu was tailored for the holidays. The gentleman that helped us was so great, he was so friendly and provided excellent service. We ordered the happy hour Yuca Frita which are like plantain fries, but more on the savory side. It was accompanied by a mojo aioli and we also ordered an extra side of garlic dip. We also chose regular french fries as well. I did not expect to like the plantain fries, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really want to come back and try a dinner entrée as everything just sounded so amazing. So if you want to go somewhere with a fun festive holiday atmosphere, I highly recommend choosing Bodega Kitchen!

Yelp
What a fun new dining addition to Sacramento. I love Puerto Rican and island cuisine and Bodega brings the flavor. Roast pork/pernil was delicious and generously portioned. My friend had the oxtails with pigeon peas and rice. She shared and it was delicious. Menu changes seasonally, as do the cocktails. This is bound to be a regular spot on my dining rotation. If you have any love for Caribbean cuisine, check out Bodega.

Joshua O.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and unique combination of menu choices that I have not seen anywhere else. I always stop by Bodega on my trips driving in and out of Sac.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at the Bodega, it was so nice that we went back another 2 times. We had the opportunity to meet most of the team, front and back of the house. As soon as you get inside you can feel this casual atmosphere, very welcoming and friendly. You order on the counter and the staff help with suggestions or explaining which each dish is. Our order 1st time there: Bodega Crudo, Braised Oxtails and the Grilled Prawn Skewers. 2nd time: Empanadas, Yuca Fries and Tripleta Taco (available only until 06:00PM). The last time we had Red Beans & Rice, Summer Tomato Salad and Mussels & Chorizo. We had pictures from the staff and the food but for some reason I can't find the pictures of the food from the 2nd and 3rd day. I will go back there and post the other pictures another day, sorry about that. So let's talk about the food: Bodega Crudo - a very fresh tuna with some green onions, avocado, lime, sesame oil and a hot sauce served with taro chips, the taro chips? They are "wow" and a perfect match with the Crudo. Braised Oxtail - they are extremely soft, like melting level. Very well seasoned, lot of flavors like a party in your mouth. It comes with arroz con gandules (very flavorful matches really good with the oxtail juice, avocado, tostones (it was my first time having it, they are interesting!) and pickled veggies... it's worth of the price ($27). Grilled Prawn Skewers - you get two skewers with three big prawns in each skewer and it comes with a very refreshing tropical salad, (frisée, green onions, papaya, pineapple and mango) with a very balanced dressing with a touch of some hot thick sauce, bit tangy, lots of flavors. Simply delicious. Empanadas - it's not just because I love empanadas but they have one of the best empanadas I ever had. I had different types of empanadas, different versions and ways to make it from different cultures and countries. I definitely rate them on the top 3 easily. Yuca Fries - I'm used to have more a Brazilian style of yuca fries so this version was different, it reminded me kind of fried polenta (crispy outside and fluffy and soft inside) and I really liked it. And by the way thy serve it with a Mojo Aioli which omg it's so delicious I asked for 3 more! Tripleta Taco - two small tacos, it's a good snack, comes with a nice good sauce inside. Summer Tomato Salad - it is perfect for the summer, perfect name to be honest. It's so refreshing, extremely enjoyable very balanced, it's a very good salad. Mussels & Chorizo - they kind sauté the mussels with some garlic, onions, chorizo and coconut milk... the result is a delicious broth that you can dip tour mussels in, put some garlic, onion and the chorizo and mmm perfect bite! And last but not least, Red Beans & Rice - I wanted to review this one for last because it reminded me of flavors I grew up eating. Their red beans have this flavor that's really close to our beans in Brazil. Such a comfort food, you eat and it just feels good, delicious. If you have a chance go check this restaurant, have been awhile since we found a really good restaurant worth of a full detailed review. Oh and they have Live Band on Thursday's, I don't know if every Thursday but they had when we went there!
google avatar

Yelp
The bodega was just okay to me. I do enjoy their happy hour and that's what I went for. They have happy hour daily from 3-6 which I love. The tacos were pretty good and I liked the chorizo fries with mussels. Everything else was just okay to me but good prices for the quality

Terry F.

Yelp
VERY yummy food, full bar, excellent service! What more can I say? My husband and I went there for the first time last summer, and we will be returning. A great addition to the Greenhaven/Pocket area!

Yelp
Food was extremely flavorful and delicious. The service was so fun and festive. Stumbled in looking for Caribbean food and found an absolute gem. The ambiance was so colorful, modern, and spunky! I will definitely be back. Falon made sure I was happy with the items picked on the menu. Had the opportunity to meet Rafael, one of the owners. Great Wednesday night vibes.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little corner restaurant that is roomy inside with dim lighting! Friendly and fast services! Food is good with good portion sizes and drinks are well made! I recommend happy hour which is 3-6! I'll be coming back!

Yelp
My husband and I met up with our friend for brunch at Bodega. We had had Bodega bookmarked since it first opened, so we were excited to try it out. It wasn't busy when we walked in and the staff let us know that we could place our orders at the bar and then take a seat anywhere. It was more like a help yourself setting. There were cups on the tables with napkins and utensils. Cups and a water dispenser were located on a separate table towards the back. My husband and our friend both ordered the Cubano and I opted for the Hangover Bowl. Our friend also ordered a hot coffee. Our orders were brought over to our table after a short wait. The bowl was really good and I only wish there was more! I can see why it's called the hangover bowl - the rich flavors would be sure to cut through any fog from a night out. I tried a bite of the Cubano and thought it was okay. There was definitely a lot of meat, but I didn't get as much mustard or pickle flavor. The fries were perfectly crispy and fresh, and I arguably enjoyed those more than the sandwich. The location has a really laid back vibe during brunch. Another family, who I'm assuming knew the owners, brought in kids bikes to work on at the table next to us. The restaurant started to fill up around lunch time as we were wrapping up our meal. I'll be back to try more items beyond their brunch menu!

Angel M.

Yelp
I usually never leave reviews. But this place was awful, the food tasted like AIR. There was No seasoning whatsoever, we didn't even finish our appetizers it was that bad. There was only one person there working it seemed like and It was very dark inside. We received some glasses of water and only one of our cups had ice ?? I would not recommend to anybody. Definitely not PR food at all.
google avatar

Fran V.

Yelp
A casual Cuban / Pan-American restaurant in an unassuming strip mall packed with unique and delicious dishes and delightful cocktails. Lunch service was efficient and friendly and the food came out looking and tasting delicious. I loved the mural art on the walls and the overall vibe felt comfortable and playful. When I'm back in Sac, I'll hit this place up again.

Yelp
For Valentine's Day, my husband made a reservation at bodega kitchen and cocktails for the two of us. It was a last-minute reservation, because my husband is not a planner. With that being said, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. To start, we shared an order of the Yucca fries, empanadas, and the jerk chicken wings. We both felt that all three of the appetizers were delicious! Since we indulged in so many appetizers, we decided to split the Cubano sandwich as our entrée. Everything about the Cubano was delicious, but for me personally, I like the bread to be a little bit crispier, and have a bit of a crunch to it. It was a little too soft and mushy for my liking. But the meat and all of the fillings of the Cubano were quite tasty. We weren't going to entertain a dessert, but someone had recommended their chocolate chip cookie so we ordered one to-go. When I say this is hands-down one of the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever had in my life, please know that I mean it wholeheartedly. I would honestly go back to bodega for the chocolate chip cookie alone. Hats off to their pastry, chef! Definitely an awesome little Caribbean spot and a place I hope to visit again in the future.

Yelp
I've lived in the area for 2 years and bookmarked this place but never stopped by until now. Being my first time we tried a bit of everything. Tostones, jerk wings, yuca fries, regular fries, empanadas, ox tail, beans and rice and shrimp skewers! The place itself is cute i liked that the bar area is separate from the dining area and the dining area has a nice family feel. The service matched the family setting so i appreciate that since we were a table of 8 that included 2 kids and 2 infants The ox tail is a dish i would highly recommend! I ate it so fast i almost forgot to share with my hubby. It comes with dirty rice and tostones and half an avocado. The shrimp skewers were nice juicy and big. It comes on a bed of salad i wasn't a fan of but some would love for their flavor profile. I'm just not a fan of fruit in my salad The empanadas were a favorite of the kids. So flavorful. I will be back soon to take pictures since i failed this time around. It was nice to catch up with friends and eat good food at a place that doesn't rush you.

Yelp
Five stars - A true gem that brings the heart of a New York bodega to California! I stopped by again today for my usual - the jerk chicken plate - and as always, it did not disappoint. The flavor is unreal: juicy, perfectly spiced, and just straight-up comforting. It's the kind of meal that instantly hits the spot. But what really makes this place special isn't just the food - it's the atmosphere and the people. From the second you walk in, you're transported. It feels like stepping into a New York bodega, but with a West Coast twist. The vibe is vibrant, the energy is magnetic, and the music is incredible. One of the best moments during my visit was when The Last Samurai was playing on the screen. The combination of that epic film with the smooth R\&B and classic hip-hop in the background created such a unique vibe--it was cinematic, soulful, and honestly kind of magical. It made me realize how much I've been missing an experience like this. There's something special about being in a place where the ambiance, music, and visuals all come together like that. And the best part? It's only three minutes from my place. This spot is a true jewel in the Pocket area--authentic, welcoming, and one-of-a-kind. The playlist changes all the time, but it's always fire - a perfect blend of ultimate R\&B hits and classic hip-hop tracks. You can tell the team has a deep love and knowledge of music, and it shows. It adds so much to the experience, like every meal has its own soundtrack. The owners clearly know what they're doing. Their East Coast experience shines through in every detail - from the flavor-packed food to the carefully curated vibe. I always treat myself to their old-fashioned - smooth, balanced, and made just right. The bartenders are friendly, skilled, and clearly know their craft. This spot has quickly become my go-to getaway. I've got my signature meal, my drink of choice, and every time I leave, I already can't wait to come back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for bold flavors, great music, and a slice of NYC in California. Five stars all the way. I'm proud to be a regular.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night for some dinner. Loved the ambiance of the place; the décor certainly proved an air of the Caribbean. The service set up is that you can order at the bar and they will bring the food out to you. I was really impressed with the menu's focus: not too complicated and emphasis on some Caribbean staples. We ordered the tostones, the empanadas, the fish tacos, the cubano (with coco bread!), and the pernil (as well as a healthy amount of Red Stripes). The absolute star of the show was the empanadas. The seasoning was on point. I liked the pernil for how simple and to the point it was. The cubano was also great. I really like everything about this place. Worth the drive out to Pocket to try out. Definitely a good and unique place for Sacramento.

Yelp
A new Caribbean food spot in Sacramento...and in Greenhaven? You have my attention! WE arrived on a Friday night to Bodega Kitchen & Cocktails, to the sight of a Maya Angelou quote on a sandwich board. And the sounds of Latin music greeting me as I got closer to the door. It definitely gave off a nice night life vibe. As I enter one of the staff behind the bar welcomed us and let us know that was where we would order. And that we were welcome take any seating and order when ready. We sat in the main dinning area and I eagerly looked over the menu, to find the dishes I'd come across on Yelp. One of which I saw that stood out was the Jamaican Jerk chicken wings, which I love and that my mom and son haven't tried before. Once we were ready we went back up to the counter to order and got Jerk chicken wings to start, as well as the Yuca fries ($10), Bodega burger ($17) for two orders of the Pernil ($16/ea for $32), a Mexican Coke and Sprit, and a "deconstructed" Paloma ($10). Where they serve you a Mexican Squirt soft drink in the vintage style glass bottle. That's rimmed with house made Tajin, with the Tequila poured directly into the bottle. And the soft drink that has to be removed for the Tequila fill, is then served along the Paloma in a small glass...very interesting take on a classic Paloma which I enjoyed. Food wise the food was delicious. The wings came out on a small skillet and at the table were, adorned with a fresh pineapple sauce for added flavor. My son noted the the Jamaican Jerk wings were probably the best wings he's ever had. And the Pernil which is slowly braised pork shoulder, that's served with fried Yuca cakes, salsa macha, Jicama and a sweet pepper slaw. Was amazing as well. Overall: Delicious food, friendly staff, great vibe. Will definitely come back; preferably in the evening for the some experience.

Yelp
The wings.. the staff... super nice, the vibe.. "vacation-like" there's more than enough seating so the wait won't be long, if any, they have a bar but I haven't ordered from it yet but I really like this place for a date night

Yelp
I liked this spot. My BFF took me here for my birthday. I hadn't realized it took over for Riverside Bar - So when we pulled in, I was super confused. The bar area layout looks mostly the same, but I see what they were going for with the change in decor. They have a order at the cash register before finding a seat kind of deal going on. We got mojitos to start. These were pretty tasty. I enjoyed my shrimp (I forgot what it was called) but it had the heads on and had a flavorful sauce on them. Bartender and waitresses were very nice. My BFF had ordered the pupusas that were on the breakfast menu - They had accidentally left that up and we had ordered it not realizing it was only a breakfast thing. They were super nice and were able to make her the dish anyway. Love that. The tostones were good but one of them was frozen in the middle? A bit odd, but fine. The sauce that came with was delicious! I had a daquiri to finish off - I didn't realize that you could get a plain daquiri - The bartender was down to make me a strawberry one, so that's what I got. I'd say they have some kinks to work out since they're kind of new, but definitely a cool spot to hit. Will be back to try other things!

Yelp
Food was bland. We ordered the Yuca frita, empenadas, fish tacos and jerk wings. None was impressive. Drinks were decent. Food, not good.

Yelp
I'm always craving cuban/puerto rican food and there isn't many restaurants or shops that sells food! my fiancé and i came here last night for dinner as my birthday treat and we loved it! Service and our waiter was absolutely amazing told us their most popular items on the menu and his favorites as well. Really nice and chill not too loud like every other restaurants with bars in downtown! menu is very small but with lots of variety to choose from! i went for the jerk chicken sandwich with yuca fries 100000/10 - the seasoning on the chicken reminds me of Asian 5 spice they use for their popcorn chicken lol and but it was still FLAVORFUL so is the coleslaw on the sandwich. the yuca fries soooo good! i splashed each bites of my meal with the tropical sauce ( HEAVEN ) i wish it was a little bigger because i ate the whole thing like it was no tomorrow. yes i am a girl who loves to eat and enjoy food :p they hand makes their breads, plantains (tostones/plantains gnocchi), and spicy sauces!!! my fiancé got the bodega burger added bacon with fries and added red chili peppers (mind you he needs and love his spicy condiments - it was super spicy lmao) very delicious and flavorful with the habanero sauce ;) (add a couple splash in your ketchup, you're welcome) lastly the basque style cheesecake with guava jam - nice and thick! guava jam was soooo good it balanced out with the cheesecake, it adds a little bit of sweet and sour/tart taste to it we will definitely come here more often and try out the other items on the menu!

Yelp
The bartender/ server was wonderful! He said they didn't have any empanadas or Cuban sandwiches but went back in the kitchen and finagled us a couple sandwiches anyway! He was super sweet and very helpful. The food was OMG off the hook and their hot sauces are homemade and very very flavorful! I'll be coming here again and again. So glad my little bro suggested this spot. The vibe here is super chill too. Nice music and great spacing for the tables. Not too close and not too far away.

Yelp
I am WELL AWARE I am late to the Bodega Kitchen Cocktails party but dear god this place is fabulous!!! Mussels with chorizo and fries. I literally licked the bowl clean. The lemongrass flavor was outrageously good! I almost ordered a second bowl after tasting it and struggled to share with my husband. The jerk chicken wings- insane!!! The spices were so warm and well balanced. Probably the best jerk chicken I've ever had in Sacramento. My husband thought he didn't like Jerk chicken. Opinion changed. And the tripleta tacos? Visually unassuming but packed a flavor punch! It was a combo of chicken thigh meat, pork shoulder and nacho cheese. Yum!! Delicious mojitos to wash it down. So damn good. Oh and happy hour prices on New Year's Day? Yes please!! Our server was Fallon. She was great! We asked her if we ordered enough and she said yes and saved us from over ordering. She gave great suggestions and clearly knew the menu.

Yelp
Decided to try some place new for lunch today and I am glad I did!! I had the jerk chicken wings and yucca fries. I had hoped for tostones, but sadly they were out today! Boo. The fries were good and crispy and the wings were spicy! Would order both again, but I'm hoping for tostones the next time!!

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night with my friends during the holidays for dinner. They had the entire place decked out in Christmas decorations which was very nice. Food was good. I had the jerk wings and the empanadas. Both were great. Holiday Drinks were well made. I will note on this night service was EXTREMELY slow. Now it could just because it was a Saturday night and supposedly they had some type of photo thing happening (although I didn't see any photo situation taking place) or maybe they were short staff that night. Whatever the case maybe, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because it happens, but just be aware on if you plan on going on a Saturday night just be prepared for a slower service.

Yelp
Got a tip from a fellow yelper of this amazing find, and well I must say I wasn't disappointed. At the time I was in Roseville,CA so it was about a 30min drive not bad. Plenty of parking the restaurant itself is tucked in a corner of a shopping center. There was a grocery outlet, a chinese restaurant around and a few other shops. Upon walking in there was a cute bucket of oranges 2 for $1 they looked juicy and well I am a fruit juice guru so that put a smile on my face! :). *The way it works is you are able to seat yourself anywhere then you take a paper menu in the front then come back up to the front to order; they give you a number & food is brought to your table. This is not really my style. I'd much rather go sit down and have a waiter come to the table to take the order and everything, it just makes more sense to me. Only because let's say if service picks up and I am done eating. I have to hop in line behind new people coming in to order dessert etc it's more time consuming. *We ordered: Tostones $11 regular $8 HH Empanadas (3 beef) $10, Rice & Beans $11, Pernil $16, Mallorca Ham & Cheese Sandwhich $8 (happy hour) dessert we did the Bodega Cake (layer of chocolate, espresso, toffee) $8 for a huge enough slice for 5 or 6 people! Along with an espresso and a coffee. *Service was friendly, polite, restaurant was spacious, and clean. Decent bar area & great prices! *Food was tasty and portioned to perfection for its prices; my only quam was my pernil could have had a more garlicky taste of flavor to it. Other than that rice was flavorful tasted like grandmas back in Dorado, PR. Coffee roast was strong & flavorful just how I like it. Great spot I will be back!

Yelp
5 stars for almost all the food and drinks! 3/5 stars for the price and 3.5/5 stars for the service. Food: We got the yuca fries, doubles, empanadas and a Cubano. I had a ranch water and my boyfriend had their special Kings drink. 5/5 for the doubles, drinks and Yuca fries. Empanadas -4.5/5. Cubano - 3/5. Service: Everyone was super friendly! Unfortunately, we witnessed who we thought seemed like the manager/owner reprimand an employee in front of us. It was super inappropriate and should have been privately. We essentially heard this man tell the other worker he wasn't dressed up to par. The weird part about it was that the guy he said this to, did not look bad. We actually complimented his shirt. It gave us super bad vibes which sucked because the food was delicious.

Yelp
Cool lil vibe. Great girls night, date night and solo date for some good food. This is one of the beat dinners we had in a while. Friendly waitstaff and a simple straight to the point menu. My mom loved the Pernil. It was seasoned well and the side of peppes and jimaca was so good and they seasoned it. The soursop slushie had rum. I am not a rum fan, tequila is my drink of choice but man was this good. The doubles were good. Could be better. Would I order again yes. I wish it came with a chutney and had more curry spice and flavor. Also I believe it's a pita and not doubles dough( I could be wrong). The yucca fries are sooo good Also. It's a beautiful taste of the Caribbean in the west. Definitely a must try. I will be back to try the Cubano, jerk wings and ox tails.
