Yelp
We had an amazing experience at the Bodega, it was so nice that we went back another 2 times.
We had the opportunity to meet most of the team, front and back of the house.
As soon as you get inside you can feel this casual atmosphere, very welcoming and friendly. You order on the counter and the staff help with suggestions or explaining which each dish is.
Our order 1st time there:
Bodega Crudo, Braised Oxtails and the Grilled Prawn Skewers.
2nd time:
Empanadas, Yuca Fries and Tripleta Taco (available only until 06:00PM).
The last time we had Red Beans & Rice, Summer Tomato Salad and Mussels & Chorizo.
We had pictures from the staff and the food but for some reason I can't find the pictures of the food from the 2nd and 3rd day. I will go back there and post the other pictures another day, sorry about that.
So let's talk about the food:
Bodega Crudo - a very fresh tuna with some green onions, avocado, lime, sesame oil and a hot sauce served with taro chips, the taro chips? They are "wow" and a perfect match with the Crudo.
Braised Oxtail - they are extremely soft, like melting level. Very well seasoned, lot of flavors like a party in your mouth. It comes with arroz con gandules (very flavorful matches really good with the oxtail juice, avocado, tostones (it was my first time having it, they are interesting!) and pickled veggies... it's worth of the price ($27).
Grilled Prawn Skewers - you get two skewers with three big prawns in each skewer and it comes with a very refreshing tropical salad, (frisée, green onions, papaya, pineapple and mango) with a very balanced dressing with a touch of some hot thick sauce, bit tangy, lots of flavors. Simply delicious.
Empanadas - it's not just because I love empanadas but they have one of the best empanadas I ever had. I had different types of empanadas, different versions and ways to make it from different cultures and countries. I definitely rate them on the top 3 easily.
Yuca Fries - I'm used to have more a Brazilian style of yuca fries so this version was different, it reminded me kind of fried polenta (crispy outside and fluffy and soft inside) and I really liked it. And by the way thy serve it with a Mojo Aioli which omg it's so delicious I asked for 3 more!
Tripleta Taco - two small tacos, it's a good snack, comes with a nice good sauce inside.
Summer Tomato Salad - it is perfect for the summer, perfect name to be honest. It's so refreshing, extremely enjoyable very balanced, it's a very good salad.
Mussels & Chorizo - they kind sauté the mussels with some garlic, onions, chorizo and coconut milk... the result is a delicious broth that you can dip tour mussels in, put some garlic, onion and the chorizo and mmm perfect bite!
And last but not least, Red Beans & Rice - I wanted to review this one for last because it reminded me of flavors I grew up eating. Their red beans have this flavor that's really close to our beans in Brazil. Such a comfort food, you eat and it just feels good, delicious.
If you have a chance go check this restaurant, have been awhile since we found a really good restaurant worth of a full detailed review. Oh and they have Live Band on Thursday's, I don't know if every Thursday but they had when we went there!
