I've been to Bodega Tanqueria y Tequila on a number of occasions because their happy hour deals and well-crafted cocktails, especially the Bodega Paloma, usually make for a great experience. The selection of street food like the variety of tacos, nachos, and particularly the sweet chili jalapeño wings, are consistent hits. However, my most recent visit with a group of eight from work left us a bit disappointed, particularly with the service.
With the exception of three gentlemen, sitting at the bar, we were the only other people there. Despite this and arriving right at the start of Happy Hour at 4 PM, we were surprised to find that they were already out of draft margaritas and Monopolio beer, and could only make three Bodega Palomas due to a "distributer issue"and shortage of ingredients. Given these circumstances, we expected attentive service, especially with the seating area mostly empty and multiple staff members visible.
Unfortunately, the service did not meet expectations. We were invited to sit at a reserved couch area but had to approach the bar ourselves to place and pick up our orders because the bartenders and server did not attend to our table. This self-service was unexpected and diminished the usually enjoyable experience.
While Bodega still scores with its food and drink, the service during this visit was not up to par. I hope this was just an off day, and not a new trend, as I would like to continue visiting in the future.
