Located right outside La Mezquita, Bodegas Mezquita is perfectly positioned to serve Cordoba's tourist crowds. The menu offers a variety of local dishes, and ordering the "tapas" size is the perfect way to sample a bunch of different things! We started with the Salmorejo Cordobes, a cold, creamy soup made of tomatoes puréed with bread and olive oil and topped with chopped boiled eggs and jamon. The Albondigas Mozarabes were meatballs in a green-colored sauce made of almonds and saffron, served along with fried potato strips. Finally, the Berenjenas Califales Rebozadas were half moons of eggplant, which were heavily battered and deep-fried and topped with a sweet, sticky reduction of Pedro Jimenez sherry and sesame seeds. All of the tapas went nicely with the basket of local bread (which included a long, crunchy cracker with pumpkin seeds). Overall, however, the dishes here tasted underseasoned and were perhaps toned down for tourists. Nevertheless, the comfortable atmosphere and attentive service made this a pleasant dining experience!
