I frequently travel around the world for food and highly trust Google Reviews & the Michelin Guide, but both were completely inaccurate here. This was the only “bad” meal we had during one week in Basque Country. The best part was the friendly service. The restaurant is sadly underground and if I could sum up the food in one word: incredibly bland. We ordered a la carte at lunch. The only tasty bite was the surprise amuse bouche of asparagus cream with crackers. Roasted eggs with cheese broth — Watery, undersalted, bland. Even the truffles had little flavor. 2/5 Spider crab with pil pil foam — Creamy & heavy but unremarkable. Couldn’t taste any of the pil pil flavor that was so delicious in other restaurants. 2/5 Hazelnut soufflé — Didn’t taste much like hazelnut and was quite dense rather than airy. 3/5 French toast — The flavor was ok but the texture was almost wet & soggy, like it was undercooked. 2/5

Google
The food was excellent, we had the spider crab and the Txuleta with fries, a green salad and peppers. Affordable for the quality. We went with the our two kids 9 and 10’and everyone loved it. The service was slow but it was busy and it seemed like maybe only one waiter was taking the orders but everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere is unique, being downstairs. I would dine here again.

I’ll do my best to keep the reviews short and sweet as it get longer For me Michelin starred restaurants offer an experience which is a combination of the food, the tastes and presentation but also as important the service which I expect will be spoiling Judging by the criteria above, our experience wasn’t perfect but was still very amazing I’ll start with the menus, I like to take a tasting menu but when there are thee dishes I can’t eat, it took some attention to find replacement, I’ll explain later why this wasn’t the best experience but once we sorted the alternatives we could start - we also added the wine pairing. The balance of the portions, between portions which reset the flavours before introducing new flavours was done brilliantly, there were clear transition with palate cleanser portions which refreshed the mouth. The amount of food was very generous. At the end, we couldn’t fit a mini biscuits when we were done and I’ll be honest we thought we were done and still had two more things to eat (one on the menu and one that wasn’t) Another point to know, the cost was very fair for a Michelin restaurant a I’ve attached pictures of the menu for reference but this is a very good value ratio to cost The few negative nuggets, We popped over a day before the booking to tell them what we don’t each eat so they can plan to offer replacements but when we came there was no memory of our visit the prior day Our table was wobbly which I did not expect at a restaurant such as this I didn’t really feel that there was experience with the wine options All in all, a great experience and I would highly recommend

Google
My partner and I wanted to try the tasting menu from at least one of the restaurants in San Sebastián. Bodegón Alejandro had great priced tasting menu and on top we went for wine pairing option. The staff were super friendly, welcoming and gave great knowledge about the wines they were serving. We came with no expectation and we did not even know it was a Michelin Star restaurant not until the next day. We had the absolutely great experience and food was so worth it.

Google
We ordered the tasting menu, which was absolutely a fantastic meal well worth the price you pay. Starter was this interesting wafer with some white soup? This seem given extra, and was interesting and quite delicious. The trio of leek consommé, marinated anchovy and crab with some form, was a good mix. All quite different, all complemented each other well. The slow cook egg with a bit of truffle was a combo that worked. The grilled hake was cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious, and the highlight of the meal. Pork loin, was tender, but a little ordinary compared to the excellent fish. Dessert was ok. French toast was soaked in syrup, but the cheese ice cream, although sounding a little strange, was interesting and we enjoyed it. All in, fantastic value for money tasting menu and highly recommended!

Google
Our group of 4 had the spider crab, teardrop peas with egg, mushroom and scrambled eggs, which were all great. I particularly loved the ham consomme. The Txuleta was good but did not stand out. The hazelnut soufflé was amazing!

Google
Very nice experience for foodies. Very welcoming staff. The appetizers up to the fish were outstanding, refined and extremely well presented. The meat and especially the dessert were a bit below par compared to the start which was truly good. Wine pairing great, especially white. Good value for money.

Yelp
Went back here for the third time and it's even better than I remember. If you're looking for an upscale Michelin type meal at an affordable price with great wine this is definitely your place--terrific for lunch.

Yelp
We selected to try the tasting menu. We were very impressed with all the items. You would think small portions are not enough to fill you up, wrong ! We walked out of there with a full stomach lol ! They're Michelin rating did not disappoint ! Great job !

Yelp
This was the first restaurant we tried when we arrived in San Sebastián. It was around 2 in the afternoon during the week in the off season (March) so we had no trouble being seated right away. The restaurant is in the basement so there are no windows but they have a lovely wall with a drawing of the countryside that makes it feel less like a dungeon. They have a regular menu and daily specials but we decided to go with the tasting menu to try as many things as possible. I loved the salty ham broth they brought out right away. My fiancé's favorite was the soft egg with Emmental consommé. My favorite would be the fish with the citrus sauce. The fish was light and flake and the gentle citrus flavor was a great compliment to the fish. Another notable mention was the meat and mash - I'm not exactly sure what was mashed in there but it was thick and almost cheesy. It clung so well to the meat if you dipped it in. The desserts were also very good, the strawberries bring light and refreshing and the French bread being heavier with an almost creamy center and caramelized crunch on the outside almost like a creme brûlée.

Yelp
We did their tasting menu and the experience was fantastic. First off the setting in the restaurant was great. Food presentation was amazing and everything was so unique and flavorful in its own way. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a fine dining experience that is relatively affordable. On top of that, the staff were super nice and explained all the dishes to us and how to best enjoy them.

Yelp
This restaurant is one of several restaurants that shows how high-quality food is easily accessible outside of 2-3 star michelin establishments. Make a reservation! Although the entrance looks like another pintxo place, it's a sit-down only restaurant that serves seasonal and hearty basque cuisine and I was very impressed by the menu selection and the technique used to cook all the fresh ingredients. If you're visiting for food and don't want to pay hundreds of euros per meal, this is an excellent bang-for-your-buck alternative. The ambience was classy (feels recently built), the service is warm, everybody speaks basic English, and I'd definitely pair your meal with a local bottle of red wine or sidra/cider (but ask for recs from your server)!

Yelp
One of our favorite meals. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing. The first tasting was a broth which was simple however had a rich deep flavor. The poached egg with truffle and cheese did not disappoint. All plates where delicious and bursting with flavor including dessert.

Yelp
We arrived for lunch and were welcomed with a whimsical little menu which made a great keepsake for our food centered trip (see pictures). I'm not sure what a man riding a big fish means but it's entertaining to give him his own story. Our wooden table was engraved with a map of the city....great conversation piece since your phone should really be off for this meal. The red drink they served in a juice glass is their version of gazpacho. It's been strained smooth and light but full of flavor! That egg thing (Slow cooked egg with Emmental consommé) was unreal and it's custom bowl...exquisite! The cookies were served in a wooden box that looked like a log with drawers. Each drawer filled with cookies! So fun! I'm surprised this place doesn't have a Michelin Star.

Yelp
Doesn't test like Michelin sponsored, doesn't smell like Michelin sponsored and it should have nothing to do with Michelin -- except for the portion size ( very small) and the price. Fish soup tested like the dishwashing water after washing the fish dishes. Cheeses plate ( presented with wooden cow bell) had 3 chunks of cheeses of very questionable quality. And that is in Northern Spain where cheeses are great and plentiful. Shame.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing - and not sure if they are capable of keeping the Star.. We arrived 5 minutes before 8:00 pm and were told to go back outside, by a woman who was combing her hair at the front reception...Guess that even though the doors are open, they are NOT open. Ok. Fine. She must manage the place, because she sure doesn't act like she answers to anyone... Maybe she owns it? Who knows... When we returned, we sat at our table for 10 minutes before a menu or a drink was offered. That's a very LONG time. Seemed like we caught them on an Off Night all together. When the server finally came, she was the same nonchalant woman from the front- and VERY casually dressed, and approached us with this greeting "ready to order?" Not at all what we had in mind for service! Our table was never wiped down, crumbs and sauce stayed in place throughout the service. We even had to pour our own wine, ( we bought two bottles ) and after asking for wine service from a passing back waiter, they still never received the hints... The food was just OK. I have had better Pinxtos all week.... we ordered the Hake, the local Cod and the beef steak. The cod was very salty and had a heavy hollandaise smothering the top. Skip that one. The beef was pretty good. Note- they don't offer knives with your fish dishes, so you have to really be skilled with that fork, can be tough with the fish skins... Also no bread plates. Crumbs all over. And oddly, not olive oil or butter for the breads. When they serve the entrees, they never, ever come back. Period. I looked around the room, several tables had that look of deep concern, either waiting for a drink, a menu, a waiter, the check, something.... Waiting. The last straw was when one diner in our party was served her chocolate soufflé , she finished it, and when she was done, my husband's Apple Tart finally appeared. Literally 15 minutes after our daughter's soufflé. Terrible service, poor management or ownership, and mediocre cuisine. Too many other great restaurants in San Sebastián. I'd be surprised if they get a Star in 2019.

Yelp
We walked in by chance and were treated to the best meal of our vacation. Both fish dishes, the cheeses and the wine was exceptional as was the service

Yelp
In our 6 day stay in San Sebastián this may have been our favorite meal. The starter of fried seasonal peppers with olive purée accompanied by watermelon-tomato guspacho was fantastic. Both entrees (lamb and pork tenderloin) were equally fantastic. The one absolute must try, no questions asked, is their apple crisp with lemon truffle ice cream and rosemary cream. It was perfection. The soufflé was also fantastic. Excellent service (our waiter noticed a tiny mark on my wife's knife when he sat us and he immediately apologized and promptly replaced it) without impeding us enjoying our meal from coming by too often. You book for 2 hours allowing for you to really enjoy the beautiful space and, of course, the cuisine. Deserving of their Michelin recommendation.

Yelp
If you look for something different than simple tapas or sangria but still You would like to taste a bit of Spain You must visit restaurant Bodegon Alejandro in San Sebastian. Meals served in this restaurant are not only kind of fun of taste but also fun of convention. The teast of food maches their amazing look and the way of serving them. If you belong to the brave tasters do not miss the chance for trying a tasting menu of 6 courses to find the roots of Basque in every dish. Enjoy - We did :-)

Yelp
Average food that is also Overpriced. We really wanted to go to Casa Urola but it was packed and we cannot get a seat so we decided to go here for lunch. From the moment you walk in, it just felt like it caters primarily to tourists who may have less critical expectations than the locals who know what their food is all about. When I travel, I avoid these places because I find that two things are true, the food does not wow me and it is way overpriced for what you get. This is the case for Bodegon Alejandro. After going to more than 20 different restaurants in San Sebastian (Arzak, La Cepa, Atari, Gandaria, Astelena etc this one was my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, the food was not bad but it was not at par to the other restaurants I tried, on top of that, it was more expensive and I did not feel I got a good value for my meal. None of the dishes stood out and were forgettable. There are so many restaurants in SB, if you are there for a longer period of time and would like to spend the money then I wouldn't dissuade you from going here but if like me, I was only there for a few days and want to try the best places the city has to offer, I would skip this.

Yelp
I've had a number of great meals here. Their wine list is very affordable (well, comparatively) and has some fantastic finds, unusual and interesting and balanced. The menu del dia on weekdays is a complete steal. Even if you can't make it for that, and must come at night or on the weekend, it's worth it. You'll spend 30-50eur/person depending how hungry, indulgent, or thirsty you are. It will be your favorite meal. Desserts are fabulous here as well. Tocina and the lemon cream are both fantastic but I've never had anything bad here. Seasonal items are great too; I always order about 50% of my meal from the temporary menu and the rest from the regular. Ask for help if you are indecisive, they won't steer you wrong.

Yelp
A sweet, charming and romantic spot with creative and very tasty dishes. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed yet classy. A gem hidden under the streets of the old town! Ciao San Sebastián.

Yelp
If you only read one thing about this review, my suggestion is to go for lunch instead of dinner. We chose dinner since nothing on the lunch menu sounded that intriguing to us. The 5 course tasting menu was delicious and a nice break from pintxos. The service was nice. With the Michelin guide recommendation, yelp reviews and the fact that chefs of other hot-shot restaurants in the area eat here, we expected to be blown away. We weren't. I don't know if it was the ambiance (baby at the center of the dining room's attention...general lack of energy in the place) or if our expectations were just so high because of the price ($160 for two with one glass of wine each). Again, the food was really tasty, some of the dishes were more creative than others. But, only the french toast dessert made it on our "favorite foods from the vacation list". If we hadn't gone, I would've left San Sebastian regretting it, so I'm glad we went once. But I wouldn't choose it again over pintxos or trying a new place next time I'm in town.

Yelp
I was not impressed or wowed by the food at this restaurant. I had the lunch tasting menu and was disappointed. The best dish from the menu was the hake fish. The beef came next and I was actually surprised that this item was even served given that the meat was tough and had plenty of tendons which for me was not edible. I do have to compliment both desserts. The french toast's coating was crispy in texture and the center was soggy yet flavorful. If you must dine at this establishment, go straight for the fish entree and save your money by avoiding the tasting menu. I love fresh and savory food and this place did not deliver.

Yelp
If you're looking for a sit-down place for lunch, this is a great choice. Fantastic lunch value. I think it was 18 euros for a 3 course meal, including bread, water & wine. Started with a shot of gazpacho, clean and fresh tasting. The lunch menu included a salad, choice of beef cannelloni or bacalao stew. Dessert was a generously portioned apple rum crumble or a creme caramel. I could smell their fish & seafood stew across the room - wish I'd ordered it as well. I also had their Iberian veal cheek entree, came with a potato and bacon terrine - similar to scalloped potatoes. Good choice, but a little bit tough without the consomme. Tasty complimentary madeleines at the end of the meal, as well.

Yelp
This restaurant does not have a Michelin star. That being said, it has been my favorite meal of this trip! We had the tasting menu (degustacion) along with the wine pairings. A 2hr 15 minute tour of basque flavors! Everything was delicious, but the standouts were the ham infused broth with bread crisps, Merluza, and carrillera de ternera. They brought the dishes out at a perfect pace and the wines were perfectly paired! Just an amazing meal that I would recommend to anyone visiting San Sebastián! PS... The desert was RIDICULOUS! Carmelized sweet bread with coffee ice cream. I wanted to lick the plate! Pictures to follow.

Yelp
Delightful! We came to this restaurant for lunch at the recommendation of some friends at a nearby pinxos bar. Both the service and the food here were outstanding. My husband and I each ordered one of the prefix meal choices so that we could share and taste a bit of everything, and I'm so glad that we did. It came with multiple courses (5?), as well as a bottle of wine and a bottle of water to share. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food and care that we received. Would happily go here again if I could just scoop it up and bring it back to the States with me.

Yelp
Very good for the price. Had the tasting menu. Dishes were well balanced, but there's slight flaws in execution. Steak with garlic cream and potato soufflé was not good. The steak was tough. The potato souffle are like slightly soggy chips. The first dessert was excellent. Best french toast/bread pudding with ice cream dish I've ever had.

Brenda B.

Yelp
This was one of the most memorable meals of our recent trip to Madrid, Porto and San Sebastian. Had the €46 tasting menu for lunch along with the optional wine pairing for an additional €17.50. Although slightly upscale, there was nothing pretentious about the atmosphere or the service. The dining room is down a short flight of stairs in a cellar room, but there is a lovely mural to look at so you really do not miss having a view all that much. Many fine dining restaurants do not have a view anyway. The wine pairing was delightful and included a house made dessert wine that was really wonderful. The wine pairing is a bargain at €17.50 so don't pass that up. Although there were not as many courses as some of the more famous 3 Michelin-starred restaurants we visited, I would say Bodegon Alejandro was every bit as good. Excellent value for the price!

Yelp
No nono!! Poor service! really not that amazing food and expensive! I really do not get how this place can be recommended by michelin

Yelp
Our best Dinner in San Sebastián. We were welcomed @ 8:00 pm and could hardly fine ourselves leaving, food was great. My carnivore Son was thrilled with the beef chop. I loved the grilled Octopus very tasty. Finished with some great deserts. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The only downside I found in this restaurant was that the main seating area is in the basement. We ordered the local tomato salad for an appetizer, which was one of the specials, and we're not disappointed. They were extremely fresh, perfectly ripe and covered in great olive oil and salt. Both main dishes we had were top notch (sole and cod) but everything that came out of the kitchen looked yummy. The desert (French toast) is a must have.

Yelp
Great splurge!! Down the stairs into a rustic restaurant with great local dishes! We went for lunch since we had 2 teenagers - it was great! Excellent high quality food & good service too

Yelp
amazing. for a non-tappas / non-foam restaurant, this is the spot!
