I guess I was hoping for something a little different on Valentine's Day - a positive dining experience worth the price. Unfortunately, not the case this time. I found BB to be understaffed, understocked (a number of dishes I was looking forward to trying were not on the menu tonight), undercooked AND overcooked (depending on what you ordered) and overall 'underwhelming'.
I will say that - while I'm still trying to get used to $18 dirty martinis - the drinks were well made and substantial.
Unfortunately, the escargot, and the onion soup, that I had been pre-craving for were not on the menu... Valentine's Day strikes again!
However, the Greek Shrimp and Veal Milanese were. The shrimp Greek turned out to be 50% red peppers with three undercooked shrimp. The Veal Marsala consisted of 2 small pieces of overcooked veal, buried under overcooked pasta that was loaded with capers and drowned in sauce.
The staff was doing their best, but not easy to get a hold of...and when I asked for some Parmesan, I got a spoonful tossed on top of my plate and then an abrupt exit from the table.
Two martinis, a Greek salad and those two dishes, and $200 later I am across the street having ice cream.
Don't get me wrong, this was not the worst meal I've ever had, but holiday dining is always a crapshoot and this time we rolled snake eyes. All of that said, I will be trying this restaurant again on a regular dining night - and I'm looking forward to that escargot!
