Central Texas’s First Bojangles Opens in San Antonio With Very Long Lines | Eater Austin

"Opened its first Central Texas location in San Antonio on Monday, July 31 at 8730 Potranco Road, the famed chicken-and-biscuits purveyor drew lines around the block on opening day—one blogger reported a two-hour wait. The opening is part of the chain’s Texas expansion announced in June 2021, which is expected to include Austin; there are currently three locations open in North Texas and one outside of Houston." - Erin Russell

Stopped into Bojangles and had a seriously satisfying meal. I went with the chicken tenders, fries, ranch, a classic biscuit, and their sweet tea and every part of it hit the spot. The tenders were hot, crispy, and well-seasoned exactly what you want from Southern-style chicken. Fries were golden and fresh, and the creamy ranch was the perfect dip to tie it all together. Let’s talk about that sweet tea easily one of the best I’ve had from a fast food spot. Ice-cold, perfectly brewed, and just the right amount of sweetness. And of course, no Bojangles meal is complete without their signature biscuit  fluffy, buttery, and delicious. The restaurant was super clean, looked brand new, and the service was friendly and quick. It’s clear the staff takes pride in what they do, and it really elevated the whole experience.

Just had lunch here, and the food was amazing! but most importantly, the service was outstanding. The manager and 2 young men who helped us today were incredibly kind and respectful. We initially ordered Bo-Berry Biscuits, but they were out. About 30–40 minutes later, while we were still seated, enjoying our food and conversation, one of the young men came up to us and offered fresh Bo-Berry Biscuits since they had just come out of the oven. They remembered we wanted some!!! Exceptional service from these gentlemen 10/10 😊 Will be back soon!

Stopped in for lunch at Bojangles and was impressed with the fresh food and how friendly and helpful the staff were. The biscuits were absolutely amazing—good enough to make me want to come back just for them! The only downside was that the lobby could have been cleaner. Overall, great food and service, with biscuits worth the trip.

Google
The chicken strips were great. I really really liked the fries. The biscuits were dry though.

Google
They have an amazing looking sign! It looks so professionally installed and perfect! This place has good food at an average price and they have a 100% on their health inspection. The staff is very friendly and professional.

Adrienne truly went above and beyond! You don’t come across managers like her often. She was attentive, kind, and made sure everything was perfect with our order from start to finish. Even when the place was busy, she handled everything with a smile and genuine care for every customer. It’s clear she takes pride in her job and in making people’s day better. Bojangles is lucky to have her she turned a regular stop into a memorable experience!

Okay, I grew up in the Carolinas, and Bojangles was a staple in the community. After 30 years of not eating there, I swung by yesterday and fell in love again. The chicken tenders were fresh and didn't have a rubbery texture like some of those other places. The mac n cheese was delicious, and the blueberry biscuits were amazing! The biscuits, in general, are amazing! The lobby was clean, and the staff was amazing. I had a corner table, and I could hear the way the employees were speaking to each other. Everything was "please," "thank you," "yes sir," "no ma'am... they were so kind to each other, I almost wanted to drop an application. It was nice to hear. Unlike other fast food spots around town, you won't need to worry about getting into a squabble with an employee here... no body needs a squabble, but everyone needs a good chicken spot, and I found mine!

Google
This was a good place. The cashier was super friendly and professional and everyone seemed to be having a good time at work. The food was also good. The chicken sandwich taste like Popeyes, the Mac and cheese is really good, very cheesy and creamy and the biscuit was also good. The lemonade was very good as well. I would frequent more often if it was not far from where I lived. The only downside is they only had tenders and sandwiches left. We got there around 920pm and I believe they close at 10pm.

Yelp
Haven't had Bojangles since we lived in NC and wasn't sure if it would ever make it Texas and here it is... and it's great! The food is as great as I remember and the staff at this location is fantastic. Very welcoming, fast service. Can't wait to go back. The only downside is they only have strips, not bone-in chicken. But don't let that stop you!

Yelp
On a late Friday night I decided to give Bojangles a try. We went thru the drive thru and received very fast and friendly service. The menu had lots of options to choose from at reasonable prices. We decided on a 4 piece tender meal with fries, drink and a biscuit. We ordered and reciveved the food with in 5 mins. The price tag was 11 bucks. The tender were big, crispy and seasoned well. The fries were amazing. Crispy and had a great spicy to them. The biscuit was flakey and delicious. I was very impressed and satisfied with my experience, the service and the value.

Yelp
Being from the Southeast, I've been eating Bojangles my whole life. Naturally, I was very excited about one opening in San Antonio. The staff are always very pleasant and friendly. It's always clean and orderly. The food is obviously exceptional. My only concern is that the menu is limited and not a full Bojangles Menu. At this location, they serve breakfast items and combos, chicken tender combos and chicken sandwich combos. They don't serve full chicken piece meals or spicy chicken piece meals. Nevertheless, I would still recommend a visit here. My favorite is the breakfast chicken biscuit meal with Bo'rounds, add egg and cheese for a delicious twist! You also have to try the Bo'Berry Biscuits.

Yelp
A friend of mine from the southeast US has told me for years that this is the best chicken in the country, so I was excited to try it. That first try, right after they opened, was very good. Best? Not to me. Since that initial try, I have eaten here a handful of times. Where you can get all kinds of chicken at the restaurant in Florida/Georgia, here you are limited. They serve strips or sandwiches. I have had both, and both are good. The lines have gotten much shorter since the grand opening, and it appears that the newness has worn off. However, the help is still really good about taking your orders, cooking it, and getting it to you. I wish they did that good on keeping the seating area clean. Will I return? Probably not as my daughter is moving to North Texas, and there will not be another reason for me to be in that part of town.

Yelp
Haven't been back to Popeyes since this location opened. Fries even better than Mickey D's

Yelp
TLDR: A pleasant surprise; if you're into Southern biscuits, you need to stop in and try this place. For a chain, Bojangles really knows how to serve fresh food. Got their biscuits and gravy, as well as fried chicken on a biscuit along with potato rounds and dirty rice. First off, the star of the show are the biscuits, which are a classic 'baking powder' round with a nice buttery taste. The gravy needs a dose of black pepper but it otherwise excellent. The potato rounds are superb, with a bit of onion in it like a latke. And the fried chicken has a spicy coating which gives it a bit of oomph, though if you're from someplace other than the upper Midwest you'll just barely notice it. And the dirty rice is surprisingly good, with a salt and spice kick that's nice to wash down with some tea. Definitely worth a visit - it's basic fast food ambiance but the service is fast and the food's very good. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Yelp
We saw that they were opening a BoJangles in south Texas so we decided to make the drive and see what the hype was about. Once we arrived of course there was a huge line since the business just opened. We then decided to park and get down instead of waiting for drive through. Once inside we were excited to order and just ended up ordering everything! LOL! We wanted to try everything! But of course with all the orders the Bo Berry Biscuits and Peach Cobbler was sold out. But at-least we got the Bo Berry Shake which was great! Everything was good and with there being a lot of people, service was still fast. If I'm in the area, I will definitely give it another go.

Yelp
Wow! This is probably the best chicken fingers I've tried. Very crispy on the outside, very tender and juicy on the inside, and in between you'll find the "kick". Spicy but flavorful. Their size also worth noting. They are larger than what other fast food places provide. Their "biscuits " are very large. Hands down the best I've tried. Their fries are served skin and all, very good. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes you feel like you're on a road trip in a different place. The big difference though, is the friendly staff and the detail in their service. Very accommodating to make you feel comfortable. My final comment is that if you are into spicy Louisiana style cooking, this is the place you would want to visit.

Yelp
FIRST TIME VISIT! Can I see a show of hands if you love chicken tenders?? Well, let me tell you, my friends, I found something special at Bojangles tonight. Not only is "Bojangles" fun to say, it's our new chicken tender spot! LOCATION: Easy to find, on Potranco, next to Auto Zone and Sonic. Parking is ample, with 2 handicap stalls and 2 reserved spots for military veterans! My husband, who was unaware of those spots, literally reversed out of a parking spot to pull into one of those reserved for military. Lol! In addition to a drive-thru that wraps around the back of the restaurant, there is an outdoor patio area that was kept pretty clean. MY IMPRESSIONS: we LOVE the respect for military veterans. Thank you! The indoor dining area is very clean and there is a window where you can watch a worker prepare fresh biscuits. I wave at the woman behind the glass and she waves back. I call out to the workers behind the nearby counter to ask what those dark bits in the dough were. Gasp! Blueberries! The workers are so friendly and ready to answer every one of my questions with patience and grace. I am told their chicken has a Cajun flavor with some heat, but nothing too overwhelming. They say their most popular sides are the Mac n cheese and dirty rice. And their most popular sauces are their house made ranch and Jalapeño ranch. I order a tenders meal with dirty rice and a sweet tea. Hubby orders the #8- a chicken sandwich combo and adds bacon. He chooses the Mac n cheese for his side and fills his cup with Dr. Pepper at the fountain. My first bite in a chicken tender shows off a moist and tender (pun intended!) inside and a crispy and pleasantly spicy outside. The Mac n cheese isn't anything to run into a burning building for, and the dirty rice is so-so. Taste and quality of what we're all used to getting from a fast food chicken joint. My favorite things were the chicken tenders and the people. Clara and manager Darrell were so welcoming and helpful. Thank you to this team for a great meal and new experience.

Yelp
We've been here twice now and both times were nice. Good friendly service and delicious hot food. The peach honey pepper sauce that they sell is what makes the chicken sandwich go from good to OMG that's awesome!! My wife really enjoyed the crispy chicken salad. She added the peach sauce with a little ranch on it too. All the other food was good. Nothing we ordered was bad but I'm telling y'all th love is slathering that sauce on everything. I ran out before I could try it on the peach cobbler. All the girls up front are really sweet and will help you decide! BTW the crispy chicken has a little spice to it so little ones might not want that.
google avatar

Ivan J.

Yelp
We just wanted to try it. I will say the following. It's affordable, and not bad. It wasn't anything super special. The best items to us were the Bo berry biscuit if you ask them to go light on frosting. The jalapeno ranch and creamy buffalo were by FAR the best sauces. Mix the buffalo with your Mac and you got something. Also of note, at a friends suggestion we got a lightly frosted Bo berry, cut it in half, added some strips and the buffalos sauce, and man it was actually quite good. The fries if Warm are decent. The most surprising was we actually loved the dirty rice there versus Popeyes! Go figure. Because it's is affordable, we may come back. Not bad. Closer to a 4 than a 2.

Yelp
I have been excited to get out here since they first opened. I was pretty disappointed that they did not have regular chicken. They only serve tenders and tender sandwiches here. I am not a fan of tenders but these were pretty good. Biscuit was on point as well. I hope they add regular chicken to their menu soon. I will probably come back once with my family to see if they like the tenders. Service was quick and patient with me even though I asked for they to give me freshly dropped tenders. Before I got to my table, my order was ready. When I questioned the freshness of the chicken, they reassured me it was from a batch that was just removed from the oil. Every bite was crunchy and juicy. There are only 6 2 seater tables. 7 4 seater out doors.

Yelp
Everyone loves a good chicken biscuit. This is different and tasty. Small restaurant, great to drive thru and enjoy. There are sweet biscuits on the menu as well. Can't wait to return and try them. Good prices.
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
Bojangles offers some really tasty chicken strips seasoned with a little kick. The seasoned fries are a bit too salty for me. There are other sides that are super tasty like the creamy Mac n cheese. I have had several issues with not getting the dips we ordered, so I would suggest checking your bag before you drive away. The restaurant itself is somewhat tidy, but could use more attention. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
I ordered a Bo's Chicken Biscuit Combo with Bo Rounds plus Bo-Berry Biscuit. I'm going to lie this's was actually surprisedly good. If it wasn't for Yelp recommending idk if I would've tried it & I will be coming back and recommending at the same time. Staff was friendly as well. One last thing $5 off family means Mon-Thur 5p-9p
google avatar

Yelp
The best tenders I've ate! The service was really nice, the guy in the front did a great job giving me recommendations since I told him it was my first time. We got a few different items to share and try since I had never tried Bojangles. The chicken tenders were juicy and super crunchy. They were seasoned and delicious. The sauces they have as well are super delicious. Their seasoned fries are AMAZING. I couldn't stop eating it. The baked Mac and cheese was good, reminded me of Chick-fil-A. I very much enjoyed it and plan on going back again.
google avatar

Eugene L.

Yelp
Here's what I recommend getting: Sweet tea Grilled chicken sandwich Regular chicken sandwich Chicken biscuit Dirty rice Coleslaw Fries Bo-berry biscuits, which are a cross between a cinnamon roll and a fresh blueberry scone. I wasn't too impressed with the chicken tenders since they didn't have enough chicken and too much breading. Maybe it was a fluke, who knows? Even better, it's open on Sunday. Chick Fil-a can't beat that can they? i didn't think so.
google avatar

Karla C.

Yelp
Crispy, flavorful, juicy, delicious! Okay I thought I didn't like fried chicken until I tried this place yesterday! Obsessed. Chick-fil-a who? I got the chicken tender meal with fries and bought a whole bunch of sauces, my favs were the creamy buffalo and jalapeño ranch. Service was insanely fast. I hadn't even put my credit card up and they were calling my name for my order. The spot was really clean with a lot of parking. I think it's a great fast food spot where you can dine in or take out. My favs: Chicken tenders Blueberry biscuits French fries Jalapeño ranch Creamy buffalo Sweet tea

Yelp
Went to pick up lunch at Bojangles and the restaurant is super clean and the employees are very nice. I ordered the chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were very good and the bisquit was good. The fresh lemonaid tasted good. Parking is great! I did not get the dessert because I had eaten at Bojangles before and the peach Cobbler is just a bisquit with peach preserves on top - terrible! Bojangles does not have regular chicken pieces only chicken tenders. RECOMMENDATION: If you like chicken tenders, go for it!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Absolutely love getting the Steak, Egg and cheese biscuit! The Sausage, Egg and cheese is pretty good too. Service is usually fast and but i have noticed that they will charge you for a LARGE or EXTRA LARGE if you don't specify. The restaurant and bathrooms are always clean. Overall i really like this place but wish they would double orders.
google avatar

Marilyn L.

Yelp
OMG I haven't had Bojangles in about 10 years. It was always when I went up North. I am so happy they are in our great state! Their food is great. I had their Dirty Rice with my 4 piece tender meal. I also got their Booberry biscuits which are delicious! Went through drive through and the young lady at the window only addressed us by saying the total. She never said Thank you, come again would you like more sauce. BTW their Homemade Ranch is the bomb!So the reason 4 stars is because they do not have the whole menu. No Chicken on the bone! And the young lady at the window!
google avatar

Jai C.

Yelp
I actually like this fast food restaurant! Full disclosure though: I've only had their breakfast a handful of times the past several months. I can't account for the chicken strips and other offerings at this point. The biscuits are fluffy, bouncy, and buttery and the chicken fried steak is cooked just right with a decent flavor. The hash rounds are a weakness of mine though - I love the flavor. I do have to say though that it can drip oil as was indicated by mine and my partner in crime's bag when we ordered to go. So just a heads up on that. The sweet tea isn't super sweet and the boberry biscuits are spot on for my sweet tooth. Service has always been super friendly and that's always appreciated- especially first thing in the morning.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Customer service, Great a people! Great food! Great serving sizes! Great atmosphere! Very clean, great upkeep! Clean restrooms! A++++ Thank you! My favorite place to eat!

Jahan T.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Why have a Bojangles if you don't have bone-in chicken? Bad business decision.

John G.

Yelp
Drive thru sucks they always forget something from my order , like cmon man this is like the sexond time this happened just put the right stuff in
google avatar

Marissa G.

Yelp
This was our first time at Bojangles and my brother and I will surly be back! The service was wonderful. Michelle was so sweet and friendly. The food was fresh, seasoned well and double checked before it was brought to our table.
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
LOVED IT! By far the best fast food chicken strips in SA. The staff were so nice the Mng Darrel was also very caring in our visit. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Celine G.

Yelp
Chicken was pretty good, Mac-n-cheese was really good! A little pricey, but everybody that worked was so nice! Super clean for just opening the dryer in the restroom was already broken but still not to bad!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Tenders were awesome! Love the Ranch dressing!! Nothing better than the sweet tea! Love the Boberry Biscuits!!

Julie K.

Yelp
The manager Samantha was so sweet. We dined in & ate GOOD food. My husband & I ordered the #8 w bacon. YUM.

Mary P.

Yelp
Update on my previous review. 9:35pm. Went back for kids meal and another delicious biscuit. I was disappointed. This biscuit has NO color at all, not appetizing at all. Not tasty either. I would not even serve it.
google avatar

JO O.

Yelp
I went here and first problem was everything I tried to order they were out of. That was pretty annoying, the restaurant was clean, but service was slow. I ended up getting the chicken family meal, but they wouldn't let me order extra biscuits... what kind of restaurant doesn't want to sell food. I've been to other Bojangles and never had this problem. 5/10 hopefully Texas gets more Bojangles locations soon....

Ricardo C.

Yelp
The staff was extremely fast and got us out as fast as we got in, the manager Darrel was especially helpful as he suggested some peach cobbler that my girlfriend absolutely loves , 10/10 best JoBangles this side of San Antonio!
google avatar

WD H.

Yelp
Recently I went to Bojangles for breakfast and enjoyed a steak biscuit. This is the one biscuit I've had over the years which has stayed consistent. However, that said, Bojangles has moved to a chicken tenders model which seems to just make it rather ordinary. I remember the Bojangles that actually served breasts, legs, and thighs. The new restaurants have left me wanting for dare I say, "the old days". I'm really just talking about just 6 years ago. At least the breakfast menu is holding strong.

Jade L.

Yelp
I love to give good reviews when noticed! I love this location and the manager Lawrence was such a sweet soul! He recommended great food and was very truthful to it because the food was amazing!!

Navin J.

Yelp
Would not recommend. Didn't get egg on my breakfast sandwich and no chicken with my tender combo. Just threw fries in.

Michael S.

Yelp
Procuring some chicken portions instead of tenders. The business has been opened for some time now.

Brian M.

Yelp
Surprisingly good chicken for a chain. The tenders with gravy were the winners followed by the sandwich. Sides are good as well either way a nice Mac and cheese. The staff is super friendly and everything is nice and clean even during a busy lunch. Limited seating so be aware of your crowd size.

Cynthia F.

Yelp
my daughter husband and I went to this place Bojangles on Saturday, September 28 wasn't that many cars it was only like three people in the building walked in the young guy. He was really nice taking our order, but I was highly disappointed in the food the chicken mine had like breading wasn't chicken. It was just breading that wasdeep fried. The chicken was crispy, but it was a little under cooked because it was a little pink on the inside. My daughter and her husband and I we didn't finish eating the food. We brought it home and put it in the trash because I spoke with the manager earlier about an issue ahead lines, and she was kind of rude. She was not a nice person at all and the ambience of the place. It was a new building, but it had a lot of damage on the inside. The floor needed to be swept and mopped. it could've been a little cleaner for my taste. The walls has scuff marks all over them and mixed out of them for it to be a new building but the thing I love most was watching the lady make the homemade biscuits that was the only thing that was a highlight of mine. This restaurant was disappointed because I've heard about this place. Maybe it was just that I don't know, but our chicken was really hard. It wasn't even hot. Chicken seem like it have been fried for a while because it was not hot at all. Wasn't even warm also was little disappointed in that as well.

Aaron G.

Yelp
I ordered a 4 piece and 5 piece large tender meal and only received the 4 piece meal and an extra fry. Was rushed to finish my order and also charged $32. To top it off, their phone line doesn't ring, just hangs up. I don't recommend this business to anyone especially with Potranco traffic. -5 stars if i could.
