The 22 Best Restaurants In Cape Town 2024

"Located near the famous brightly colored Bo-Kaap houses, this nondescript streetside cafe serves Cape Malay favorites like koeksisters, a donut-like sweet coated in coconut, and masala mince shakshuka. At the center of a suburb with a storied and, at times, painful history, Bo-Kaap Deli is a reminder of the rich culture and cuisine the Cape Malay community brought to the city. Grab a spot at one of the many picnic tables on the curb and watch locals go about their day while an endless stream of tourists blocks the road to take pictures of the rainbow of houses." - bri cave

Here's the revised text: "The atmosphere was amazing but unfortunately the food fell short of my expectations. We arrived late for breakfast having struggled to find parking and wait for a table only to find out we'd missed the breakfast cutoff time. The owner explained the reason but it was disappointing nonetheless. We opted for the lunch menu instead with one bigger dish and two others choosing a burger and pasta. However after a 15-minute wait for our order to be taken we were informed of a 45-minute wait. We reluctantly waited only to see others who arrived after us receive their food before us. When our food finally arrived it looked appealing but the pasta was bland and dry and the burgers were disappointing. The presentation was great and the hand-cut chips were perfectly spiced. The major letdown was the patty which seemed like a standard "off the shelf" patty which tasted horrible which did not match the burger's potential or my expectation. Despite this I plan to return and try their breakfast which I've been highly recommended. To improve the staff could benefit from customer care training and offering refreshments or snacks during long waits could enhance the experience.

Mary was an excellent waitress. She was so accommodating. The food was amazing. New flavs new styles. Even a simple wrap was tasty. There's cute Souvenirs and the kook sister wax the legit thing !!!! If I ever come again this will be my staple place for food.

Slow and inflexible service. Steak lacked any flavor except for the abundance of sauce. Green yuck 🤢 that first was too too spicy and then made the second time was just plain gross. The one star for the freshly fried koeksisters even though brought in after the meal was served rather than before. Very disappointing breakfast.

Nice looking place. I was handed a menu and told sit anywhere. Over 10 minutes later nothing. Eventually a worker passed by. Asked if I could order. Told she’ll send a waitress. More waiting. Waitress comes, attends table of people seated well after me. Gave up and left. It wasn’t busy. Very disappointing.

Atmosphere is great, comfy… love the books has lots of potential, but service is lacking. Came in for a coffee, sat down but wasn’t sure if I would be served. Got back and stood by the counter to order a coffee. Asked the waiter who was checking tips, to get me 2 cappuccino, which got was served. Unfortunately never got a menu, so would not know what else was on offer.

Popped in for my first time with my brother. 8am floors were still being mopped at entrance. Waiter said the waiting time is 15 to 20 minutes. We waited longer than that. I requested food with drinks, Food arrived and I had to ask again for the drinks. I ordered earl grey tea, I was given a pot of weak tea. I sent it back and requested tea in a cup with milk separately. My koeksisters I had to ask a second time for it. Def won't go back to this place. Tea was okay , koeksisters sweet, and egg wrap was tasty. On the flip side,I like the bookshelf full of books, I'm sure One is allowed to bring a laptop and do some work here, baby seats available and a bathroom available as well.

Masala steak was good and divine koeksisters. Abit pricey though, I guess because it's a tourist area. Side note with regards to parking. You need to park on the street and there is a group of guys that are on the street that find you parking, they try and persuade you into buying them groceries from the convenient store. Be aware.

A must to visit this Deli either as a tourist or a tourist in your own hometown. Rustic decor with great food . The masala steak roll with fries is delectable and filling. Mango lassie refreshing. Koeksisters traditional and tasty! Informal and no reservation required.
