The 22 Best Restaurants In Cape Town 2024

"Located near the famous brightly colored Bo-Kaap houses, this nondescript streetside cafe serves Cape Malay favorites like koeksisters, a donut-like sweet coated in coconut, and masala mince shakshuka. At the center of a suburb with a storied and, at times, painful history, Bo-Kaap Deli is a reminder of the rich culture and cuisine the Cape Malay community brought to the city. Grab a spot at one of the many picnic tables on the curb and watch locals go about their day while an endless stream of tourists blocks the road to take pictures of the rainbow of houses." - bri cave

Had a wonderful breakfast at Bo-Kaap Deli! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, with generous portions that really hit the spot. The crushers were especially refreshing, and the steak in the Boss Brekkie was absolutely amazing everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a quality breakfast in the heart of Bo-Kaap. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

We were very delighted when someone recommended this hidden gem when we asked for Cape Malay cuisine. It’s Bobotie was recommended, it was delicious, though I had never come across it in the Malay archipelago. As well as the Bagel and cream cheese. Drinks are refreshing, we had the mango & mint and the passion fruits crusher. Atmosphere was awesome, easy dining, fast service and waiting service was attentive. Mary was well informed of the different kind of food served, we are asians and well aware of the Malay cuisine but this is Cape Malay, it tastes good as well. Kudos to Mary for the great service rendered to my family while dining. Besides food and beverages, there are stuff, books, perfumes and many others things for sale. Will be back again, when we visit Bo Kaap in future.

What a great experience we had at this fabulous little place. The breakfast was fantastic. After our early morning walk through bokaap we were hungry and decided to stop here and glad we did. The coffee was great and went perfectly with the cape kooksisters, these little gems are slightly sweet with a touch of coconut and are extremely good, hands down would recommend this to everyone. The Bagel was great, huge, and not your typical bagel. Slightly sweet and fluffy but so tasty, this fed the both of us along with the kooksisters. I'd highly recommend stopping in this little gem. The service was great and everyone was so friendly. 🤙

After Cape Town Marathon got canceled we went for breakfast instead. I got a sourdough masala brekfast sandwich with a soft yolk ooozing out as you take a bite. The masala steak sandwich comes with a side salad and salt and vinegar chips. Cappuccino ☕️ was delicious and so was the koesister and Chelsea bun.

My family and I had a Sunday brunch as there has been a lot of great online publicity. The food was somewhat good, yet no WOW factor with the breakfasts. The service was also okay, the disappointment was that the waiter a few times forgot extras like our request for water, starters, etc. Only when the waiter came past did he remember our order. The main restaurant was under revamp so we were at the branch across the road. The set up, decor, vibe and the other items they’re selling was quite welcoming. I’ll give it another try to have a more objective view.

First time here. Was super chilled and relaxed (at least when I was there). The main restaurant was under construction, went to the section across the road. I was craving a chicken mayo and read on a Facebook food group that the chicken mayo sarmie is great. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by the sarmie itself because I am not a fan of Crosse & Blackwell mayo and it tasted like they used that (but can’t be 100% sure). Also, the chicken is cut into cubes. I like more of a shredded chicken vibe. However, I ordered extra pesto and added that to my sandwich and it was AMAZING. Super delicious pesto. Anyway, just my two cents. I’m a hard-to-please chicken mayo fan, so this is just my personal opinion. I ordered the red juice and was really good!

Bo Kaap Deli is hands down the best restaurant in Cape Town! From the moment you walk in, the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive — they make you feel right at home. The Cape Malay-inspired dishes are outstanding, and their Bobotie is an absolute highlight — rich, flavorful, and the best I’ve tried here. The breakfast is fantastic, and don’t miss the koeksisters — sweet, perfectly textured, and simply delicious. Whether it’s coffee, breakfast, lunch, or dessert, this place delivers every time. Highly recommended for anyone looking for exceptional food and wonderful service in Bo-Kaap.
