Bold Rock Nellysford Cidery

Went to celebrate a birthday weekend, had a great time soaking in the amazing view. Cider was great and so were the burgers! Had a nice space to walk around and explore. Would recommend.

This was one of our top spots during our summer vacation at Wintergreen! We explored the Cider Museum, then ordered our food and sat on the patio. We had a perfect summer evening. We both had the blackened chicken sandwiches, which were delicious, as were the fries, coleslaw and pretzel bites. We tried the flight and enjoyed tasting the 4 flavors we had chosen. After eating our meal, we took a stroll down to the river and relaxed on the rocks, taking in the scenery. What a special place! Definitely one of our favorite eating experiences during our time up in these mountains! Four stars for service only b/c there was a mixup with our appetizer - they gave us the wrong one. And the first lady to take our orders at the bar was not super warm/welcoming, but the other ladies at the bar were later when we returned for the mixup as well as to taste some more ciders. Nothing awful, just not 5 stars in my book. We would absolutely return here on another trip!

Awesome spot for a flight or bite! Varietals are always rotating, we've personally always found Bold Rock to have the best ciders, well-balanced, not too sweet or dry, with a vase array of options, something for everyone. Definitely worth a stop if passing through or a hard cider fan!

We had a wonderful experience here on Friday. We got to sample ciders to help us decide which to order in our flights. We both got hamburgers and shared the pretzel with beer cheese dip appetizer. The setting and views were beautiful looking out at the creek and greenery. I highly recommend and can't wait to return!

What a gorgeous cidery! We each ordered a flight with different flavors and shared so we could try them all. Sitting by the fire and sipping our favorite cider made for such a memorable afternoon. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

Bold Rock is always our first stop when visiting the area. The food is delicious and the cider flavors are unbeatable.

We went on a Saturday so it was insanely busy, but totally worth it. The cider is amazing, but the atmosphere was an excellent complimentary plus. I'd highly recommend the imperial berry or blackberry cider. Many friendly folks here and so many activities for kids too. The creek was a nice touch too and I had fun petting all the dogs. Beautiful place. 10/10 would go again.

Bold rock is such a fun and laid back setting! The atmosphere is great. The out door seating has a nice view overlooking the river and mountains. The drink options were very expansive! The food is great! We got the nachos, loaded fries, pretzel sticks, popper dip and pickles! All were so good! Will for sure be coming back here!

We were there the other day with a large group- First off- the location. This place is BEAUTIFUL!! Second- the cider...delicious! So many choices. I got the N/A and it was so good! Everyone loved the Dill Pickle cider too! Third- the food! My goodness get the fried chicken sandwich. Seriously get it. Last but super important- the service. Between Brandon and Mel- we were so well taken care of. They were quick, nice and helped us with all of our needs. We will definitely be making this a part of our annual tour!

Stopped by Bold Rock on a sunny afternoon and honestly didn't want to leave. The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains were unreal--picture-perfect backdrop for a cold cider and good food. I started with a cider flight (highly recommend if you're indecisive like me). My favorite was the Blackberry--it was fruity without being too sweet. Super refreshing. For food, I had the island tacos and our guests had burgers, fries and kitchen sink Potatoes. The whole place has this laid-back, welcoming vibe. Tons of space to spread out, sit by the creek, or chill at a picnic table. Everyone was super friendly, and it's dog-friendly too--saw some happy pups living their best lives. If you're ever in the area, this is a must. Ciders, great bites, mountain views--what more could you want?

Absolutely a fan fave! Whenever in the Wintergreen area, Bold Rock is a must stop. The beer The views The food The music The vibes We haven't been here in sometime but I'm so glad they're still giving five star service. We were looking a little lost coming in, but David grabbed us up and said "I can help you over here". From there it was love at first SIP! He has us at FREE SAMPLE ciders. David took us through the offerings, educating us along the way. He mentioned what ciders are the most flavorful and why. He hung with our curiosity, eagerness to drink and indecisiveness at the same time. Customer service is crucial to a pleasant experience. I can only hope the rest of the staff are as easy going and likes their job as much as he does. Now for the cider. GET THE FLIGHT! Sample and fall in love with options instead of one. We settled on: Pineapple Imperial Berry Summer Slice Paradise Orchard Imperial orange Vat #1 (champagne cider) Imperial All amazing and refreshing selections. Paradise orchard is my new fave. Let's get into this food. We ordered: Tacos w/ house chips Chicken Nachos Cajun Honey wings & fries All great and very fresh made to order, so good, good flavors. My fave were the wings and the house chips. Only notes is out more sauce and seasoning on the wings, I felt like BR was teasing me with a good time. I needed more! Same with the nachos so good. The chips were fresh, but I need more cheese throughout the chips. Chicken was on point. Everything was super super fresh so good. House chips is a huge staple love them. Keep doing them maybe add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if you are reading this and you're debating about coming here get the house chips get a flight get it all. Our total bill $75, but omg we sampled sooo much! Love this place... BR give David a raise!

Ambiance was nice . Looks like a fun place in warmer weather . Service you need yo order at the register. Food was pretty good .

I had the cheeseburger and chips. It was tasty. Unfortunately, when we got there, they were out of chicken and fries, which was a bummer. The seating is first-come, first-served. We sat outside because all the inside seats were taken. Fortunately, the weather was nice. The view from outside is lovely. They have heaters for the cold. The on-tap cider was delicious!

It's not a trip to Nellysford, without a trip to Bold Rock. The crisp cider and crisp mountain air in October cannot be beat! The views are spectacular as is the drink menu! Come, sit, leave your worries at home!!

Delicious cider. Good food. Food service was slow given how busy but everyone was very nice. Great crowd and vibe.

If you are in Virginia this place is a must see!!! The view is amazing when sitting outside. There is a wide variety of Hard cider flavors ........beware you're not just going to like only one!!!! The apple cider donuts..........lets just say this is my new fave staff members that I encountered were all nice, patient, and willing to answer any questions you had.

I've always loved Bold Rock, but the past couple times I've gone lately, it has exceeded my expectations! Brandon helped me and my fiance last time we were there.. it was an extremely slow day but his energy was amazing and even though we were one of the only guests there, we felt extremely welcome. He may have even talked us into getting married there when the time comes

Disappointing visit. We were looking forward to visiting Bold Rock but were not thrilled with our experience. We traveled with another couple and all went to the counter to order flights, listening to their interactions with the staff compared to our employee  (who turned out to be the manager), It was vastly different. Ours provided little guidance and was annoyed by our questions, where their employee explained and happily answered questions. When we received our flights they were vastly different. Ours was 4 small plain plastic dixie cup size samples and theirs came in larger plastic cups with Bold Rock printed on the side. Both were the same price?? The ciders were ok at best and leaned to the overly sweet side (even the dry ones). I used to be a fan of Bold Rock but their ciders taste like other mass produced and distributed ones found nationwide. During our visit numerous displays/ads were promoting their RTD cocktails and one of them was an orange crush, which we wanted to try.  We are huge fans of the Orange Smash made by a neighboring establishment (DBB). I should have asked the price for a can prior (my fault), but after we tasted it and were disappointed I wondered how much I paid for the can... $9.00.  You could purchase 4 cans to go for $11.99.   When I went to question the cost of the can  It was confirmed. I asked why it was so expensive ( I don't mind paying for quality drinks, but this seemed a bit steep since we were at the actual cidery.) The response was that it was the ABC law that set the price and togo were cheaper and providing cans at the cidery is a convenience for the visitors.  While it is true togo packages can be priced less, the establishment has leeway to set in-house prices.   When the manager used the analogy that it is cheaper to buy Bud-light in cases than it is to drink at a bar....this was definitely a slam insinuating that I'm a cheap drink person etc. etc. Had the manager had people skills, this could have turned into a positive experience to appease the customer. Even something as simple as "I understand your frustration, but why don't you try this pour of cider you may like". Overall a disappointing experience. Basic overly sweet cider and poorly trained unhappy staff. So many other options in stores for top rated ciders.

Fantastic, if you don't come here you're lame. This place has the best cider options in the area. Personal favorite is the Vat#1. The merch is always stylish and the food is great. Always a fun stop for a route 151 trip in Charlottesville.

This is another one of our go to spots in wintergreen. We love everything about this place. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is always delicious and plenty. And it always feels like we are home for the holidays. We always get excited to try all new and seasonal ciders. We have yet to find one we don't like. My favorite this time around was the pineapple one, yummy. This year we were able to also sample some goodies at the distillery side of this business. I hope they consider expanding both buildings. Around the holidays it's almost impossible to get a table and the wait can be long. This is probably because of the great products being sold there and the fact that you feel so at home that you don't want to leave.

I did not expect the food to be sooo good. We had the nachos, tacos, and Cobb salad and all were delicious. I got a flight and enjoyed them all. My favorite was pineapple. The location/atmosphere was wonderful and definitely worth the drive.

This place is awesome the vibes are very comforting and enjoyable. They have live music as well that is very fun to listen too

Had an amazing time memorial Day weekend. Drank and enjoyed the fire ! Cole was amazing and whipped feta was great.

They have 3 buildings. The best one in my opinion is the building all the way to the far right and you do have to climb what they call the summit, But it is worth it. It's open seating. You walk up to the bar to the left and place all you orders. Drinks you wait and they pour them right there. Food they give you a buzzer and when your order is ready you go up to the window and pick up your food. There is seating everywhere. Staff super friendly and everything is fast. This place is dog friendly areas and games outside. Parking lot is so packed but there is plenty of parking and fields of seating outside We had a blast. It's beautiful inside and outside are fire pits and there is just a great vibe. The distillery is nice. They make you mixed drinks but you have to drink them there in that particular building

Love it here. The staff is super welcoming, especially Kat the bartender. There is plenty of comfortable seating and we had a great time enjoying the cider with a beautiful view.

We went here twice on our trip dubbed Blue Ridge Booze Tour. And both times loved it. The first was for drinks and light eats, the second just for drinks. Our first visit we opted for flights since we'd never been. I'm not a big cider fan but I did find two I'd drink again. We did the smoked chicken nachos, pretzel sticks, and fried pickles. The food was good and what you'd expect from a brewery. I'll try nachos everywhere and every way, you can't really lose with those. Overall I'd completely eat there again. Second trip, just drinks, and took home a few bottles. Oh, and the staff? Awesome! 10/10 just for the ladies working behind the bar our first trip in. They were very helpful, very funny! Everyone we encountered was great! Already planning a trip back.

I had an amazing experience at Bold Rock thanks to Erin behind the bar. From the moment we walked in, she was welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the ciders. She took the time to recommend flights based on our tastes, explained the flavor profiles in a way that made it fun, and even suggested great food pairings. Her friendly, upbeat personality made the whole visit feel relaxed and enjoyable. If you visit Bold Rock, definitely ask for Erin--you'll leave with a smile and maybe a new favorite cider!

Called ahead to ensure they had what I was looking for. They told me they had what I wanted and the price was $23. I drove an hour in the pouring rain to the Cidery to get what I was looking for only to get there and be told they're completely sold out the day prior after telling me it was in stock an hour before and that the new price was $73. Store Employee understood my frustration and got the manager. Manager completely waved me off with barely a word spoken to me. I don't know if I'll ever come back honestly. Waste of my time and money. Bold Rock has fallen off over the years and I'm really sad to see it happen.

Blackberry hard cider and Imperial cider were so good! We came on a Friday evening and ordered burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, BLT. All the food was good and didn't take too long. Staff were nice and helpful.

I'm really enjoy coming to Bold Rock.The cider is delicious and I love their hamburgers. It is the best place to come ever.

May 25 2024 Horrible experience. Waited over an hour for food and then it was even botched. Turkey Reuben with no sauerkraut or thousand island dressing. Fail. Waited in line both times, 30+ minutes. Fail. Staff the damn place please. Fail.

This is the best Bold Rock! They have a huge property with a distillery and sell drinks you cant find anywhere else there (these drinks are liquor/cider drinks like their "bold fashion"). They also surprisingly have great food! I didn't expect much but their "adult grilled cheese" and pretzels were fantastic. The service was great for both food & drink. When we were choosing our side the bartender suggested mixing the imperial and cranberry ciders and it was amazing; I still mix them together at home now! Another huge draw of this place is they have a huge seating area outside with stunning views. This is the perfect place to hang out with friends on the weekend.

One could easily misjudge BRNC when driving by because of their haphazard placement of buildings and shortage of suitable parking. You can start enjoying their potential once you enter the main building at the top of the hill. If cider generally isn't your thing, having a flight maybe the best option. Great place to people watch and enjoy a nice view. The FOH Team is best at the bar, otherwise good luck. Surprisingly a decent sized food menu, but the price points are high for their final product. Sure, why not.

Our absolute fav spot on Route 151! From the variety of ciders, amazing food and breathtaking views you will not be disappointed in this stop! kid and pup friendly is a huge plus!

This Cidery is busy, but the staff is very pleasant. It was a little difficult to get a table because it is first come/first serve. There was also groups of people holding empty tables for people that weren't there yet which seems like it shouldn't be allowed. The food is decent for bar food and they have a good selection of ciders and a couple beers on tap. There is a large field behind the main building that is great for dogs/kids, and a scenic creek that runs through the property that is perfect to sit by and relax.

I cannot recommend this cidery enough. The bartenders are extremely helpful in helping you choose a drink so the service is impeccable. The food is also slept on as I've never ordered a bad tasting meal ever (recommend the Kitchen Sink Potatoes if they have it). The ambiance is excellent as well, as I frequently bring my dog here where they have dog bowls on the ready. 10/10 experience everytime I come.

We had such a fantastic time at Bold Rock, and Erin was the highlight of our visit! From the moment we sat down at the bar, she made us feel welcome with her warm smile, great conversation, and amazing knowledge of the ciders. She gave us spot-on recommendations, answered all our questions, and even made the tasting experience more fun with her upbeat energy. Erin is the kind of bartender who makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. If you stop by Bold Rock, definitely grab a seat at the bar and let Erin take care of you -- you won't be disappointed!

The views here are stunning. I love how you can get flavors that are difficult to find in stores. Plus, you can try their liquor which not many folks are aware they even make. Be sure to check out the museum upstairs.
