Review as a day spa guest: it was ok.
Pros: admission comes with a very nice robe (with pockets!) and unlimited very large nice towels. You get your robe and towel in a tote bag along with slippers, which was a nice touch. There’s a lot of saunas. The outdoor pools are pretty. The relaxation rooms were great! Getting to sit in a plush chaise lounge in a quiet room with a fire and read wrapped up in a bathrobe and a blanket was wonderful. There were lots of books available if you forget to bring something.
Cons: the arrangement of the place is a little confusing- I had trouble finding check in, and later looked at their website to find a map, because when I’d asked for one I was shown one painted on a wall. Helpful, but less so when I was two flights of stairs away from it. I later saw a paper one, I don’t know why they don’t give them to everyone. There were great little touches, but then something would be off- free herbal tea, but then they’ve run out of the complimentary dried fruit next to it by noon. Gorgeous outdoor pool, but then the drain around the edge is kind of dingy plastic. Also, the hotel lobby turned out to have many flavors of tea, but the spa only had one? My major complaint is that the outdoor pool on the roof was a little too cold to be comfortable. If it had been a few degrees warmer I’d have happily stayed in it all day, enjoying the view. But I had to get out because it was only luke warm, and it was cold out.
I think if I’d been able to book for an overnight (there aren’t any single rooms available) and enjoy the whole experience and the apparently great food, or had come in the summer when I could have lazed around in the lawn (the chairs looked great!) and had a drink I’d have had a great time. Or maybe even if I was into saunas- I think there were five. But I’m more of a pool person, and the pools just weren’t warm enough for lounging around in. I left after a few hours because I felt like I’d run out of stuff to do. I don’t regret visiting, but I’m not in a hurry to return.
