Prolific Chef With Michelin Cred to Open New Midtown Indian Restaurant - Eater NY

"Mathur brought those lamb chops to his next restaurant, Haldi, eventually buying the restaurant and five others from B-list Bollywood actor Shiva Natarajan. Haldi also received a glowing write-up in the Times’ Hungry City column, but it faced the same fate as Tulsi, closing last year." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

I really enjoy dancing with Pooja. I joined the class because I had high bp and medicines were not working. Doctor recommended to join the dance class for stress relief and I joined BAX NYC. Initially I used to get tired and I was also not able to do steps right because that was one of the first classes I had joined. Pooja was very encouraging and asked me to do whatever I can. She has very high energy levels and I like her dance teaching method. She is a very good inspiration for me. I wish her all the best in her life.

I have been taking Pooja’s BAX Bollywood dance classes for many years. The classes are a vibrant, joyful experience, led by a teacher whose love and care shine through every step. Her enthusiasm creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making it easy for everyone to learn and have fun. With patient guidance and a passion for sharing the art, Pooja ensures each session is a delightful blend of culture, rhythm, and connection. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a heartwarming dance journey in Bollywood dance.!

I can confidently say joining BAX NYC was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The class is energetic, welcoming, and so fun! The instructor, Pooja is AMAZING and she makes it easy even for beginners to follow and learn. With no dancing experience, I was nervous when I started but everyone has been genuinely supportive and friendly. Now I look forward to class every week, it’s undoubtedly the highlight of my week. Thank you, Pooja, for bringing the joy of dancing into my life! ❤️

Pooja has been an amazing dance teacher! She breaks steps down to make it easier to understand and picks really fun songs to learn the dances to. I would definitely recommend joining her classes!

I've been dancing with BAX NYC for the past 2 years and have loved it! I joined with little to no prior dances experience and wanted a fun activity I could do each week. Over the last two years, I've improved at picking up and following choreography- Pooja is amazing at breaking down complicated moves so they feel simple. I've also found community with Pooja and my fellow dancers and had a great time learning new dances! I would recommend anyone interested in Bollywood dance join BAX!

Dancing with Pooja and the BAX community is the most fun you will have each week! High energy, beautiful choreography and a warm, encouraging community of people who love Bollywood and dancing as much as I (and you) do!

Yelp
Pooja is a fantastic teacher. I attend her Bollywood dance classes since 2019 and she has been consistently great in bringing latest amazing choreography to us as students. She breaks down the steps and eventually you feel like you are able to master all the songs you see on screen ;) I love how relaxing these classes are, sometimes intense, sometimes graceful - with so many moods of Bollywood. I highly recommend them if you are looking to foray into the Indian dance forms.

Yelp
This place brought me to the next level of Bollywood dance. No more just 'turning of the lightbulbs'... I left feeling like I was on the closing set of Slumdog Millionaire. Staff is super nice, friendly-- and very comforting. The environment is really engaging-- from the other classmates to the entire dance floor. And I was happy how they listened to guide me in the direction I wanted to go with my dancing as well. I LOVED the music mixes! Great workout (belly toning action galore) .. and a really FUN time!

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about working with Pooja Narang. She choreographed a dance for our wedding in Mumbai this past February and people are still talking about the dance! Pooja was very easy to communicate with, took into consideration all of our requests for song selection/dance routine (even at the very last minute she was always willing to make changes that we had come up with), and created an excellent dance for the seven of us who have very little dance experience. We scheduled ten classes and Pooja was always on time and was very patient as we learned the routine. She's a wonderful dancer and an incredible person! We would not hesitate to schedule dance lessons with her again and hope we have the chance to do so in the future!!

Yelp
My fiancee (now wife) has been going to BAX Dance Studio for couple years now and always described the experience as pure divine. Tuesday has become her new favorite day and she looks forward to the class every week. During our wedding, we wanted to do something different and decided to do a Bollywood/Bhangra dance in addition to our slow first dance. To be honest, I consider myself decent dancer but have never taken any professional classes. That translates to - I can dance solo but I am far away from the correct technique or doing any choreographed dance. Given that this was our first performance as husband and wife, we agreed to taking private lessons from Pooja. Pooja is an incredible dancer / choreographer and a patient teacher. She is able to quickly identify different skill level and makes the steps easier to remember and well coordinated. My wife and I had an amazing time learning how to dance "together" and everyone at the wedding was full of praises of our performance.

Yelp
Are you shy at Indian weddings, not wanting to dance cause you don't know the moves? Been watching the Indian channel a little too much on Saturday mornings? Maybe you're a white Jewish girl like me who has always secretly wished she was Indian instead cause they get to wear all the pretty flowy things? Just want a good workout? I've always wanted to take Indian dance - ever since I saw the Indian student group at my college put on a huge Indian dance show for Diwali every year. But you could only participate if you knew what you were doing, and I definitely didn't know what I was doing. Years later, I finally worked up the nerve to sign up for the Beginner's Bollywood class at Bollywood Axion, and I am so thrilled with the class. The instructor, Pooja Narang, is funny, helpful, clear and a great dancer. She is able to analyze the ability of the students in a class and subsequently tailor the pace of the class appropriately. Although I'm pretty sure my arms were not genetically engineered to move in the ways she wants me to move them, I love the class and all the students are super nice. It's a great way to get some exercise in a really fun environment.

Yelp
Having danced with several organizations within NYC and beyond, I must say Bollywood Axion Dance Studio (aka BAX) is probably one of the most organized, well run, and open dance groups that I've been a part of. Pooja Narang, the artistic director/choreographer of BAX has a lot of experience in the world of Bollywood and Bhangra and not only are the classes fun, but they cover all levels from the new to Indian dance to those of us who have danced for years. All of the instructors who teach for BAX are super patient in transforming self proclaimed "two-left feet" individuals into dancers. The club has a wide variety of offerings from Bollywood, Bhangra, Hip-Hop, Madhuri Dixit intensive classes, and Zumba to name a few. So there's always something new to try out. With classes offered on weeknights and weekends in Manhattan and Queens, there are classes that will appeal to a lot of interests and schedules too (perfect for all busy New Yorkers). Unlike some other clubs, BAX offers performance opportunities for every student who takes classes. They have their annual student recital which gives every member at every level their spotlight on the big stage for those who crave that chance to show off what they learned. In the fast-paced NYC environment it's sometimes reassuring to know that there is no waiting months or sometimes even years to get that opportunity as with other dance groups! Best of all the club is super diverse, global, and all of the members were super nice and welcoming to anyone new. You also have plenty of opportunities to join in as new sessions start monthly. So if you're looking for a fun group to join, a great workout, and having a creative outlet, look no further and join as soon as possible!

Yelp
I love BAX. I've been taking bollywood classes for a year and still love it. I am a real beginner like I never danced ever in my left so I'm really self-conscious. But Pooja is the kindest teacher and she makes even us most novice people feel welcome. It's the most fun exercise you will ever do. The other students are really nice too. Some of the advanced people are really inspirational to watch because to me they seem like pro dancers.

Yelp
I've been taking Bhangra classes with Pooja Narang for few years now & I have to say, I'm addicted :) It is such an awesome experience. Everyone is so friendly and they'll welcome you right away, but the music, the moves and that energy is what will keep you coming back for more. I went from a girl who didn't know such style existed to someone who gets compliments on my moves at Indian weddings. So if you want to have fun dancing and working out at the same (while doing "top-shelf" and "drunk punjabi bird"), this dance studio is for you.

Yelp
I have been going to Bollywood Axion ( BAX) for last 4 years. I always look forward to Tuesday and the dance classes give me enery to go rest of the week. Whether you are a beginner or advance , you will surely enjoy the classes. I was new to NYC and found great friends thru BAX. Pooja also organizes yearly recital where all of get to be stars performing in front of packed audience. Yelp
I had been looking for a good Bollywood class to take in NYC that was fun, easygoing, and reasonably priced. I definitely think Bollywood Axion Dance studio fit the criteria. The classes are taught by Pooja Narang. She is an amazing dancer, choreographer and teacher. The songs she picks are upbeat and fun, usually the latest in Bollywood. I agree with the previous writer about how Pooja looks at how the students are doing as a whole and chooses an appropriate pace for the class. I wasn't sure what to expect when I came to my first class. The class is held in an older building that has a few different types of studio- dance, music, etc. It kind of seems hectic when you first walk in b/c there are different classes/rehersals going on and you're not quite sure where to go. But don't let the chaos fool you b/c the class is a steal! Also, the longer you keep at it, the better you get and the more fun you have!

Yelp
I have been dancing with Bollywood Axion Dance Studio(BAX) for the last 3 years. I have been attending the Bollywood, Bhangra and Hip Hop classes that are offered by BAX. It has been like an addiction for me. I get sever withdrawals symptoms if I don't attend class every Tuesday and Thrusday :) Pooja Narang, who is the artistic director of BAX, is a very talented dancer and choreographer and amazing individual. Her level of patience with her students is uncanny. You may be a great dancer already or have two left feet, Pooja makes sure that each of her student get equal attention when it comes to choreography and training. Sharona (Shy) who is our Hip Hop instructor is also a very talented dancer and choreographer. I have never loved hip hop so much as I do now. Thanks Shy! :) So leave all your shyness and apprehension of dancing in public behind, because at BAX there is no room for these :) Also BAX organizes their annual recital every year which lets every student who has been through classes showcase what they learnt throughout the year to their friends and family. The months of rehearsals that the students put in for preparing themselves for this annual recital is an amazing experience to go through. Dancing with Bax every week twice a week is in itself an amazing workout schedule for me. So if you have second thoughts of joining BAX, there shouldn't be any. (And finding time to do, should definitely not be an excuse here ;) ) Thanks Pooja for getting our lives BAXed!!!

Yelp
I cannot recommend Bollywood Axion enough. I signed up in 2006 for Beginners Bollywood and from the very first class I was hooked. I loved the moves, music and friendly atmosphere and I remember watching artistic director Pooja Narang and the regular students in awe. The choreographies looked so slick and were so much fun to throw yourself into. Before long I was in the intermediate class and despite being shy I couldn't wait to show off my new moves in the annual recital. In 2007 though I had to return to the UK and was worried my BAX days were over. Classes in London were just not the same. Then in 2011 I got the chance to move back to New York and one of the first things I did was to sign up once more with Bollywood Axion. Nothing had changed! Pooja is still the most patient teacher ever with inspirational routines that provide a fantastic workout. I'm now in the advanced class and was recently honored to perform with BAX as part of a Diwali festival. With flexible class schedules and package rates for both Bollywood and Bhangra, BAX makes it easy to join their dance community, and you won't look back!

Yelp
We are so happy to chosen this place ! We had an excellent time with our instructor Pooja, she is very talented, professional and warm instructor. We wanted to do a Bollywood dance on our wedding day to surprise guests and we had so much fun and everybody loved it. Me and my husband highly recommended Pooja !

Yelp
Its been 4 years now that i have been dancing with BAX and Pooja.. and with every passing year, my joy and the fun i have in the class has increased exponentially. Pooja is a wonderful choreographer and has great variety of classes for everyone to pick and choose ,based on their comfort level. Yelp
Pooja is fantastic dance teacher and she has the best choreagraphies (beautiful fun interesting moves that aren't repetitive)

Yelp
I had taken Bhangra classes elsewhere and I seriously think "I wish I would have joined Bollywood Axion before!". When I first joined it looked kind of complicated, but Pooja is not only a great dancer, but a great teacher. The steps are broken down i.e.: you learn what to do with your legs first, then the arms, then legs and arms together, then the head, etc. She offers no trial or drop-in classes. You must purchase either a 10 or 20 class package. I think it is a smart thing to do, because it allows you to get a real feel of what the classes are like. Once a year (around April / May) a recital is organized, showcasing what you learned throughout the year, and I must say I greatly enjoyed the experience! I have also met really nice people at class!

Yelp
I have had an opportunity to attend last three recitals of Bollywood axion. It is very impressive to see great level of performances in Bollywood & bhangra for all these years. I would recommend Bollywood axion to all who are interested in learning Indian (Bollywood & Bhangra) dances. I love the way the classes are taught and how each move is broken into simpler steps which makes it easier and enjoyable for students of all levels to learn!!!! I have seen how the lessons learnt at class have helped many to gain confidence to dance in family and public gatherings !!! Perfect school to learn and to have fun at Bollywood & Bhangra dancing

Yelp
Whether you think you can give Madhuri and Aish a run for their money, or whether you have no idea who they are and you believe you have two left feet, you can find a place for yourself in Bollywoodaxion. This dynamic, friendly and exciting dance class is welcoming to students from all walks of life and with all different levels of proficiency in dance. Classes are taught at all levels and at all different paces. The instructor, Pooja Narang, is extremely patient, friendly and professional. Her thorough instructions along with her fun and hip-shaking choreography will have you dancing to all the latest Bollywood tunes in no time. The classes are also a great workout and the choreography will keep you interested and motivated to come to class. For those who are interested, the classes offer a chance to perform at the yearly student recital. I have been taking classes with Pooja for two years now and I also highly recommend the class as a way to meet fantastic people who are potential life-long friends. So what are you waiting for? Sign up and start moving to the beat Hrithik-style!!
