5 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"A Redondo Beach strip-mall restaurant from a chef with a strong local resume that turns out reliable South Asian comfort food—excellent butter chicken with a balanced, rich sauce, a well-handled (moderately spicy) fish vindaloo, and standout sides like nuanced daal and chana masala that keep well as leftovers." - Eater Staff

I ordered 2 dishes - Bhelpuri and Chicken curry + lentil (curry) over rice. Bhelpuri was alright - they could’ve used different type of puffed rice that soaks the sauces well. The boneless chicken curry had white & red meat mixed and it didn’t give me the comfort of quality food. Chicken curries were kept on slow heat and maybe was kept for long thus hardening the meat. Overall, I would rate it 2 star for the food quality. I must say the service and ambience was good.

Google
The menu has a good selection of snacks and main dishes. They cater for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike with some vegan dishes. The currys are pre-prepared and kept in the counter. The staff were friendly when I placed my order to eat in, however it appears that they get far more take-out orders. I ordered the methi paneer and 2 x parantha. I was given my food in a take out container and had to find my own cutlery. The parantha was freshly made and delicious and the paneer was hot and well flavoured. My only criticism would be that when dining-in, the food could have been served in a tray and cutlery provided with a bit more restaurant service. Nonetheless, the food was good 👍

Google
This is a great family run restaurant in super convenient central location. The service is fast but the food is so flavorful and made with love. The chef was happy to explain all the different dishes and flavors.. so don't worry if you are not super familiar with Indian food as this restaurant is very approachable. They were offering two vegetarian dishes one spinach and one eggplant and both were excellent. Quick serve with great slow food is a perfect combination for the fast paced health conscious lifestyle in the South Redondo / Hermosa Beach area. If you have not tried this restaurant or think you don't like Indian food please stop in and chat with the proprietor.. do yourself a favor and try it.. outstanding food and service at a very fair price. Bollywood Zaika is a fast, flavorful, welcome option in King Harbor Plaza.. between PCH and Catalina right by the post office.

Google
I wanted to like this place, but it’s about as mediocre and bland as Indian food can get. Every dish was small in portion, lacking any kick and almost too sweet, like it’s been modified for the American palate. I understand why they might do this, given it’s in Redondo Beach, but it just doesn’t hit the mark for true Indian flavors. The one upside is the friendly staff and fast service. The interior has more of a food court vibe; you order first and can eat inside, but it’s definitely geared more toward a to-go experience. Sorry, but I wouldn’t recommend it, and I won’t be returning.

Google
What a great find! We stopped by for lunch and were very happy with everything we ordered! Everything was delicious! The service was great and the place is very clean! We will definitely be back soon!

I was in the Redondo Beach neighborhood so figured I would try out this place. First and foremost the host of this place were attentive and very helpful. They asked if I needed help picking from the menu and made a few suggestions. I figured I was pretty familiar with the cuisine so I picked the Vada Pav to eat in and the Goan fish to take home for my wife. The Vada Pav was filling and tasted good. Its a good snack to have when you are hungry. The fish was decent too. My wife felt it was okay however she was not head over heel with the dish. I also had a cup of masala tea when I was in the restaurant. The tea seemed a little watered down but the taste was fine. There is ample parking in and around the location and they also have seating inside the restaurant. Not a bad place to get some Indian food. I understand they also have some food by the plate where you can mix a few items. They have a good range of vegetarian and meat dishes on the menu. The accept credit cards, cash and Apply pay. Overall good place to try out.

This place is delicious and affordable. An excellent place to get a quick lunch. They have something for everyone including delicious vegan options. The staff there was really kind and helpful and the music they were playing was awesome! I will definitely be back

Google
Visited this restaurant a couple of weeks ago on a weekday. Very nice and cozy restaurant with ample of Indian dishes available on the menu. We tried sag paneer, dal makhani, naan, masala chai and rice. The curries and dal were really delicious. They also had alu gobi, chhole chana and some eggplant curry on the menu. If you are going in a group, they do have a family combo meal for $60 which serves 3-4 people. On side they also keep various soft drinks including Mango lassi. We did buy mango lassi and it was really good as well. We wanted to try their date and walnut ice cream but they had ran out of that flavor. The staff is super friendly and I believe they do allow tasting of curries before you purchase, which is really helpful in case you want to try out some new dish. The restaurant is in a strip mall and it has ample of parking. We found parking right in front of the restaurant. :) Overall we had a really good experience and will definitely visit again when we are in the town.

Yelp
One of the best Indian spots in all of LA. The fish is super flavorful, and the paneer is definitely the best in the city. The potatoes are good too and the dal is nice. The seating area could definitely be improved -- it's not comfortable and feels more like a takeout place. It definitely has the potential to be great, and the staff are very friendly. The only downside is the samosas -- they're very small, so I would skip them. I just wish they were open later, because this place is awesome.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. The customer service has gotten a LOT better. The owners seem very communicative and welcoming. They answer all the questions we asked. They could use some different varieties once in awhile and change up the menu. The prices are still okay--reasonable for the portion, location, and overhead. Hope it doesn't go up!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is delicious and consistent, with great options for vegetarians. We have not eaten inside, but pickup is always quick and easy. Some of our favorites are palak paneer, pav-bhaji, paneer kathi roll, and we've never gone wrong with the daily special.
google avatar

Milena H.

Yelp
I forgot to take a photo of my veggie bowl to go but it was stuffed to the brim and delicious! You definitely get bang for your buck here. I loved that they use Le Creuset pots for their hot food. It's professional and clean and gives the homemade character. Space wise, they also have a fridge of drinks as well as some table seating inside.

Yelp
The staff here are friendly, but regretfully, I don't find the food delicious. Their curries were pre-made and had been sitting in the pots for quite some time. Granted, all Indian restaurants prep their food in some ways. Most places prepare the base sauce and combine it with the ingredients before serving it to the customers. This way, the food can be prepared quickly and cost-effectively without compromising freshness and taste. The two curries I had were served from the pots and tasted like they had been kept warm in the pots for a long time. The chicken chunks I had were dry and tasteless. The curry had multiple tones, but they didn't come together harmoniously. Also, one of the dishes tasted bland and lacked the intensity that the dish needed. So I ordered raita, thinking the acidic and dairy flavor would supplement the bland curry. Usually, the raita tones down an intense curry; however, in this case, I used it to elevate the bland curry. However, it didn't work because the raita was too diluted and tasted flat. The biggest disappointment is the naan. While I wasn't looking for a great-tasting naan, I still expected a warm, fluffy naan made fresh from a tandoori oven. Instead, I was given what seemed to be reheated pre-made naan. The naan was dry, tough, and not warm. I wanted to like this place, with its location and friendly staff. But regretfully, the food just didn't cut it for me. I hope that this review is constructive.

Yelp
The food is delicious! This is a cafe-style Indian restaurant. The food is available at the counter in large pots, so the spice level is set at mild (the tiniest hint of spice), but then you can add sauces on top for more heat (or cool) at no additional cost -- including chili, tamarind chutney, mint chutney, and raita. Very well-seasoned, rich and creamy flavors. The chana masala, butter chicken, and daily special eggplant were standouts. The plate and bowl combos are reasonably priced. The "plate" (with two entrees and two sides) is about 50% more food than the "bowl" (with one entree and one side). There is a restroom in the back of the kitchen. Several tables to eat inside, and eat-in orders are served in plastic take-away containers, so you're already set if you don't finish everything. The restaurant interior is clean, modern, and feels like a cafe.

Yelp
The service is great. They allow some sampling of the curry. Got a plate to go. Came with 2 veggie sides and 1 or 2 mains. Tried chicken korma and vindaloo. The vindaloo was pretty spicy. The curries were okay but there was not enough curry. If I were to come back, would probably get the curry separately. The bread was I think chapati. Would've preferred naan. I liked the mango lassi. Overall the food was bit expensive for the taste/amount of food, though that might be partly because of where it's located.

Yelp
Best food and amazing team!! Support small businesses always. Their food and drinks are so good.

Yelp
Amazing spot serving authentic Bombay style snacks and a full buffet. Flavors are very close to what I grew up eating in Mumbai. Small space for dine-in but they always accommodate you. Owners are very passionate and always check-in on us each time we visit. They have a very elaborate catering program that we haven't tried yet but have heard great feedback. Definitely our favorite spot for Indian food in Southbay LA.

Yelp
visited bollywood zaika friday night bc well tbh, i was over the wk and i didnt feel like cooking this was recommended to us by a friend the aroma coming out of this restaurant was insane i was literally salivating , i was so hungry my level of knowledge for indian cuisine is not very good. i just know the basics. their menu is extensive and can be overwhelming but the gentleman working was helpful! i ordered a plate, it was great bc you can customize your order from plate/wrap/bowl the plate: Served with rice or greens Choose ONE/TWO Mains, TWO Sides & condiments i got two mains: butter chicken and chicken kebab curry with rice. my two sides were dal and jeera aloo alright, this plate was sooo good! BUT i can not handle spicy, so i had to take breaks eating this also, the dal..wayyyyy to spicy for me. i will double on the jeera aloo next time, if i can i def prefer the chicken kebab curry, i love yellow curry! i also order an order of garlic naan and an order of spinach and cheese samosa, but so good service was great and helpful parking: located in king harbor plaza. huge lot, no issues. located across from carl's jr

Yelp
First visit. Blown away. Ranking at the top of my list of favorite Indian places in LA. And I've been to at least a dozen. Butter chicken and curry were on point as was the paneer and daily special for today eggplant dish. Sauces were thick and perfectly savory. Lady over the counter let me sample and also gave me a sev-poori to try. It's a cold sweet dish. They have other specialties I've never seen at other restaurants. I will definitely need to try all of them!

Rosanne B.

Yelp
Convenient location with lots of free parking in the parking lot. The food was fresh and delicious! Lots of options from small dishes and snacks to full plates to family meals. I had the veggie wrap and it was really flavorful and the perfect amount for lunch. They have a few seats for dining in, but are great for takeaway.
google avatar

Ellie R.

Yelp
As soon as you get into the parking lot you can smell the food and it's absolutely intoxicating. The menu is expansive with both crowd pleasers and cultural staples, all at incredibly reasonable price points. Although everything was delicious, the Chicken Samosas were hands down some of the absolute best I've ever had. The filling itself is perfect, but the homemade mint chutney and date-tamarind chutney combined delivers a savory, sweet, sour, and refreshing bite all in one. The service is quick, friendly, and happy to give recommendations! The cashier recommended we got a side of rice instead of chutney to save money and enjoy the meal more since the samosas came chutney free of charge. An absolute hidden gem of the area!!!

Yelp
Bollywood Zaika is consistently good--clean, flavorful, and satisfying. We especially enjoyed the pizza and the lunch combo; both were fresh and surprisingly delicious. Their street-food specials also stand out with bright, authentic flavors. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality is solid. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Great Food. Really fast service. The plate is an incredible value its almost too much food. I go here frequently.

Brendan S.

Yelp
Friendly staff, my issue is that an entree doesn't include rice. $40+ for 2 entrees and one piece of naan, no rice. :(
google avatar

Yelp
Best Indian food in the South Bay. Bhuna Chicken, bomb. Dal, bomb. Bhatura my fav. Quick, easy, delicious.
google avatar

Susan U.

Yelp
I've been coming here and I remain to be a fan. This is my fave Indian Food place in my area. I usually get 2 different plate combos with all the vegetarian choices such as the Chana Masala, Saag Paneer, Jeera Aloo, Dhal Makani. Same stuff that I order, every single time. The nan bread is always fresh. The servers are fast and friendly. Parking is ample. Location is convenient for shoppers.
google avatar

Atul P.

Yelp
Limited menu choices but delicious food. Delivery through Grubhub was quick (40 minutes on a Friday evening). The food was well packed and still warm. The Chana masala and saag paneer were excellent as was the bhature. Dal was overly creamy though not from cream. I suspect they added more kidney beans to the lentils than is usual. The taste was fine.

Yelp
Bollywood Zaika is one of our favorite spots for flavorful, authentic Indian food. From the moment you walk in, the amazing aroma of spices lets you know you're in for something special. Some of our go-to dishes are the vada pav, paneer kathi roll, butter chicken, bhel, and pav bhaji. Each dish is packed with bold, vibrant flavors that feel truly authentic. The vada pav is perfectly spiced and comforting, the paneer kathi roll is rich and satisfying, and the butter chicken is creamy and delicious. The bhel is fresh and tangy, and the pav bhaji is the ultimate street-food classic done right. The service is friendly and fast, which makes the experience even better. The cozy, casual ambiance adds to the charm--it's the perfect spot for a relaxed meal with incredible food.
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Just approaching the restaurant I knew we were in for something special. Colorful umbrellas and quaint tea lights hanging from the ceiling outside, and the rich, flavorful harmony of spices from inside warmly embrace you as you walk to the open front door. We were then greeted with warm smiles and welcomes as we entered. There are just a couple tables to dine inside. Otherwise, like us, we had ordered with an easy menu online for pickup. Garlic naan, butter chicken, chicken kebab curry, lentils, relish, two orders of samosas, a chicken pizza and rice pilaf-- the four of us ate amidst so many sounds of delight, contentment and "oooh, please pass me that again!" With every bite, you taste the pride and perfection of each dish with its beautiful layers of spice and heat, sweet and herbal. This is next level homemade deliciousness! Thank you for an amazing meal!

Yelp
Staff were very friendly and polite. Food tasted great -- they even offered samples if you were unsure about something. Dining area a bit small, but clean and cozy.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Best Indian food in the US! We have traveled the world, including visiting India and Nepal, and Zaika Bollywood truly has the best Indian food we have ever tasted. The sisters are a delight and their confidence shows in the food as they welcome you to sample dishes you may wish to eat. Try the palak paneer, chicken vindaloo, chana, and garlic naan. These dishes are flavorful, fresh and made from quality ingredients. Come hungry and enjoy.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from this spot, and it couldn't have been more convenient. It's close to me and ideal for grabbing a quick meal. The seating inside is very small, so it's definitely more of a takeout place. I got the butter chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. The garlic naan was also fantastic, though the portion was a bit small. I wish I had ordered two! The portions overall were enough for my husband and me to share. The service was friendly and quick. I'll definitely be back for more!
google avatar

Rofelina M.

Yelp
If you like Indian food, they have great Indian food, the samosas and the curry is tasty, they have a lot of selection. The service is fast and ambiance is great for a quick bite
google avatar

Afreen P.

Yelp
This place has the best Indian food so far in South Bay. My go to dishes here are without a doubt the Mumbai style snacks like Vada Pav, Samosa Pav, Sandwiches and Sev Puri. We even catered from this place for a party and the food was amazing as usual. The butter chicken and naans are to die for! Everything is neatly packed always and they are very patient while trying to understand what you need to order.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
We absolutely love Bollywood Zaika. I am 1/2 Indian and to be honest, really good Indian food is lacking in the LA area. I've tried so many places. BZ is our favorite in the South Bay. The food is fresh and delicious. The tandoori chicken pizza is a more recent addition to the menu and it is amazing!!! It is a little pricey for the size, but it's a nice splurge once in a while. We love the butter chicken, palak paneer, and the samosas (their mint chutney is amazing). The aloo is also good. The chicken kebab dry is good, but it's very spicy. Very gingery if you like ginger. The staff and owner are extremely nice and personable. Such an amazing place!
google avatar

Kristen K.

Yelp
My family and I have been going to Bollywood Zaika for almost two years now. It's one of our favorite Indian restaurants in the area and we love how fast it is to pick up the food. The restaurant seems more fast-casual with the ready-to-eat curries and sides, but the food is definitely more authentic than your usual Chipotle-style restaurant. The staff is always super nice when we go in and will answer questions or suggest items. We've tried our hand at most of the mains, but usually opt for the family combo since it's a good deal for 3-4 of us. Family Combo - 2 mains, 2 sides, rice, naan (garlic naan is extra), 2 samosas We usually opt for the butter chicken, saag paneer, jeera aloo (potato dish), and chana masala (chick peas). Definitely get the spicy green sauce if you like some heat with your food or just on your samosa. The garlic naan is excellent too. The regular combos are very generous too and I have shared those as well. If you want to get the fish, it takes 15+ minutes to prepare, but still not too long compared to a regular sit-down restaurant. I have yet to try the naan pizza and some of the menu items that aren't in the glass case, but I am sure those would be good as well. Overall, definitely a great spot for Indian food and love how quick you can pick up an order to-go on the spot since most things are prepared.

Yelp
Love this place! Great people. Fast and delicious. Since discovering Zaika a month ago, we have eaten there once a week.
google avatar

Joey J.

Yelp
Tried the food for the first time. It was excellent! I had the chicken curry chicken cobbler. With the potatoes and cilantro. Really good. Very pleased, and pleasant staff.
google avatar

Jas B.

Yelp
Always delicious. Friendly staff. I've never eaten in but it looks like a cut casual spot.
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
The owner and staff are incredibly friendly. The food is authentic Indian, has fresh ingredients, and the spices and ingredients make the food burst with irresistible flavor! We were here last night and back again for lunch, yes it is that amazing!!

N T.

Yelp
Great food, great service! Hidden gem for Indians craving Mumbai Street food. Loved it! We travel far from OC to eat here and are always happy to come here.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
It's ok for food to go, but not for the price of it. There's no where decent to sit & enjoy the meal, they don't really care whether their customers are comfortable or not. They wouldn't give us real plates or utensils even though we didn't ask for it to go. The food was tastey, but considering all the other factors, I'd rather go eat somewhere with a nicer ambiance to at least enjoy an evening out. Sounds like people who ordered the food to go weren't too pleased either, from reading the reviews. Maybe if it were priced lower to make it worth the to go packaging service, that would make sense. I wouldn't go out of my way to go all the way back here.
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
Kinda upset yelp didn't have this place pop up sooner or towards the top when i searched for local indian food places. Cause this place was by far the best i've had near south area. service is the friendliest and sweetest i've ever had. i also like the layout because you can easily pick up from the counter to go or take your food from their giant stoneware and eat in their spacious indoors. I ordered butter chicken and palak paneer in small sizes with a side of basmati rice. Perfect texture, perfect amount of seasoning and not too salty or sweet. Usually my love for palak paneer dominates any other dish i order with my meal but the butter chicken made it hard for me to decide which i like better. i was impressed. and the portions of cheese that came with the palak paneer was generous so i was extra happy. i'll be back to try the mango lassi and other dishes.

Yelp
Absolutely not impressed with my carry out experience. Food was ready when i got there. That's a plus, however the $4 portion of garlic naan was pathetic. That's not a quarter of the size of the breads from other indian restaurants. The samosas, while also small were tasty. And the poorly packaged and leaking all over butter chicken was also tasty (what wasn't dripping out of the bag). So not impressed.

Phemie L.

Yelp
First time here, amazing!!!! So many great options, service is impeccable they are so kind. Ate so fast forgot to take pictures. Highly recommend, will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
Incredible butter chicken. It was so delicious that I ordered it two days in a row. I had it with the brown rice and quinoa that was cooked better one day than the other. Loved the mint cilantro chutney! I ordered takeout but the service was great in that my order was packaged well and made within 30 minutes. The place is small but there are a few tables inside and parking is easy.
google avatar

Marco C.

Yelp
Excellent food , clean restaurant. Combination of street and home cooked dishes. Couldn't finish my lunch.. too much food
google avatar

Maggie Z.

Yelp
So yummy and such nice people working there! They l gave our little boy some mango lassi and he was so happy and drank every drop. We had the family combo and tried a few chicken dishes with samosas, rice, naan and sides. The kids loved the butter chicken, as you would expect, and our littlest one was also a fan of the dal and the jeera aloo potatoes. I can't wait to come back to try the build-your-own bowls and wraps. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
I ordered Bollywood Zaika for delivery through Uber eats tonight. I ordered the butter chicken entree, a plate with chicken kabob, garlic naan and raita. Everything was delicious. The butter chicken could be a little more flavorful but still enjoyable. The problem I had though was there was no rice that came with the butter chicken. Wish that was said on the menu because rice always comes with butter chicken at other restaurants and that's what I'm used to. If I knew it didn't come with it, I would have happily ordered it myself. The garlic naan could have also been bigger but it was very good either way. I'll def come back though since flavor was good overall.

Bari M.

Yelp
I ordered food for a party. They were able to recommend and accommodate the amount needed - it was delicious and everyone raved!
google avatar

Martin G.

Yelp
Wow!! Staff that shows you that they want your business!! We were offered to try whatever we wanted before ordering, which is highly unusual nowadays, food is great and we will definitely be returning soon!
google avatar

Amy X.

Yelp
Wanted a quick meal and this place was perfect! The menu is straight forward and they have all the options ready when you order. You get to choose the option for a wrap, bowl, or plate and I think they are all reasonably priced. The bowl and wrap options let's you choose one main option and one side, whereas the plate comes with 1-2 main and 2 slides. I ended up getting the butter chicken and Jeera Aloo (potatoes) with white rice. It was the perfect portion for me and very delicious! I do wish there were more options especially for the sides but I will definitely come back when I want a quick meal to pick up!
google avatar

Rebekah W.

Yelp
Best Indian in the South Bay! HIGHLY recommend! Quick and easy order and pick up. I with I could give it more than 5 stars.
google avatar

Kaye Y.

Yelp
Walked passed this place a few times before deciding to give it a try. It was empty inside so I figured go for it. Service was fast, not friendly but adequate. The food is already precooked. They offer a variety of options for vegetarian and meat eater (just chicken) preference. I got the Bhuna Chicken, Kebab Curry Chicken Plate ,Garlic Naan and Jeera Aloo Dal. Delicious and flavors were perfect. I just wish the staff were a little more helpful with suggestions. The chicwas tender. The only con was the garlic Naan was not authentic.. seem maybe microwaved because it turned rock hard after 2 min and we could not eat it. I'm definitely going to try again and very soon. Some of the dishes look amazing coming..so yep..gotta return very soon.
google avatar

Lea Z.

Yelp
Amazing food very delishious, its truly a home food taste and aroma very nicely flavored and balance to my taste

Shilpa K.

Yelp
They have delicious pav bhaji, but the paneer tikka pizza was pathetic. cost is high. Portion size is small, and they serve hot food in plastic use and throw plates, which is not healthy at all.
