Bomba Paella is easily one of the most popular stalls at Borough Market. You can smell the fish from across the market area, and the massive paella pans with their friendly cooking team chatting to the long queue make quite a show. The presentation is seriously Instagram-worthy - those gleaming lobster tails, jumbo shrimp, and clams look absolutely stunning, and I get why everyone has their phones out.
I came later in the day when the queue was shorter and tried the seafood paella. The rice was little undercooked but well-seasoned, but the premium seafood didn't match up.
The jumbo shrimp and scallops were rubbery, and watching others eating around me, even those beautiful lobster tails weren't faring much better either and largely binned.
At £24 to £28 per plate, I was pretty disappointed with the value. Borough Market has so many amazing food options, and honestly there are better choices where the quality matches what you're paying. The atmosphere and presentation are fun to watch, but this felt more like paying for the show than the actual food.
