We had dinner at the restaurant and it was okay. The fish entree was good, but other food items were bland and needed more seasoning. The malai kofta was missing the sweetness. The service was good, though. Overall, it is a casual place for Indian food.

Google
Bombay Bistro is my fave Indian restaurant, so when I saw they had a lunch buffet, I had to go. It was amazing! Friendly staff, quick service, and of course, delicious and unique food! The spread was impressive, with at least 10 different dishes, naan (variety! Plain, garlic, onion, etc), rice, dessert, and even sambar. My faves were the fish curry, tandoori chicken, and sambar, but honestly everything was great. Please check it out! Fridays, Sat, and Sun 11:30 am-2:30 pm. Your belly and wallet will thank you!

Google
Bombay Bistro in Rockville continues to delight us. We have been eating there for about 20 years and it is a family favorite. This time we ate outside and ordered the chaat (photo) and vegetable uthapaam, as well as perennial favorites saag paneer, vegetable biriyani, chicken tikka and garlic naan. So much better than most other Indian food we have tried.

Munish Mehra

Google
Excellent food and very hospitable staff. I had the lamb shank today which hit perfection in my search for the ultimate bhuna gosht. Last time I had the rock fish (with salmon kofta) which was also delicious.

Google
Love it here - really tasty food, decent pricing and the staff is super attentive. I love coming here for the lime pickle! The vegetarian platter is really worth it.

Priya Shyamakrishnan

Google
We were regulars when they opened 33 years ago. Recently during Covid times, we rediscovered Bombay Bistro and loved the naans and how different and authentic each dish tasted. The buffet was good but could be improved, especially considering how good their a la carte dishes are.

Google
So enjoyed the buffet today with family! Delicious food and attentive and smiling service! We will be back!

Google
I’ve lived here since Bombay Bistro was the only Indian restaurant in the area, so it holds a special place in my heart. They have always maintained quality and always greet you with a smile. The vegetarian thali is the best thing you can do for yourself. My Dad got the tandoori salmon and it was the tastiest fish I’ve ever had. Perfect texture as well. We tend to not recognize consistency and take it for granted but seriously; Bombay Bistro is the best Indian restaurant in Montgomery County.

Yelp
In the heart of the city, where the sun sets with a weary sigh, there lies a place called Bombay Bistro. It is not a place of grandeur or pomp, but of simple pleasures and honest flavors. The kind of place where a man can find solace in a meal, and where the world outside fades into a distant hum. The chicken briyani, ah, it is a dish that speaks to the soul. The rice, golden and fragrant, each grain a testament to the care with which it is prepared. The chicken, tender and yielding, infused with spices that dance on the tongue. It is a symphony of flavors, a journey through the bustling streets of Bombay, all contained within a single bite. And the vegetable samosas, crisp and golden, hiding a treasure trove of vegetables within. They are a delight, a surprise, a moment of pure joy in a world that often seems devoid of such simple pleasures. The pastry, flaky and light, gives way to a burst of flavor, a medley of spices that sing of distant lands and ancient traditions. Bombay Bistro is more than just a restaurant. It is a sanctuary, a place where the weary traveler can find respite, where the lonely soul can find comfort. It is a place where the food is not just sustenance, but a story, a memory, a moment in time. So, if you find yourself in this city, lost and alone, make your way to Bombay Bistro. Order the chicken briyani and the vegetable samosas. Let the flavors wash over you, let them tell you their story. And for a moment, just a moment, you will find yourself transported, to a place where the sun sets with a weary sigh, and the world is a little bit brighter.

Yelp
The chicken tikka makhani, saag paneer and chicken biryani are amazing!! I cannot wait to come back to try more dishes. The food came out quickly and the service was attentive.

Becky S.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Very authentic! We tried the chicken Chettinaad for the first time. Very spicy. We love the samosas, garlic naan, & malai kofta curry. Very friendly staff. Fit us in on a Friday night holiday without a reservation. Yay!

Yelp
My family and I love Bombay Bistro! From the quick, kind service to the seriously delicious food, it's the full package! Perfect for a nice family dinner, especially after the hectic holidays! Highly recommend (the tandoori chicken is my dad's favorite)!

Yelp
The food was great! And the service was excellent! Will definitely be going back. Especially for their samosas!

Yelp
We recently ordered for our office party, and the chicken curry was an absolute hit! The dish was flavorful, perfectly spiced, and had just the right amount of heat. The chicken was tender and cooked to perfection, absorbing all the rich, aromatic flavors of the curry. The sauce was rich and creamy, with a lovely balance of spices that had everyone going back for seconds. What really impressed us was how well the curry held up during the event. Even after being served in large quantities, the dish maintained its quality and taste. It paired wonderfully with the fragrant basmati rice and naan bread. We received numerous compliments from our colleagues, and I would highly recommend their chicken curry for any group event or office gathering. It was delicious, comforting, and definitely one of the highlights of the meal!

Yelp
We had some very good food recently at Bombay Bistro. We hosted a group of four of us recently for dinner at Bombay Bistro in the middle of downtown Rockville. The food was very good, though there were a few hiccups in service and surroundings. We were fortunate to get one of the few parking spaces in the tiny lot, and were warmly welcomed. Unfortunately, the booth they seated us at was extremely tight, even though the hostess tried to move the table a little. So we quickly asked for a non-booth table, and were seated nearby. There's not a lot of extra space in the dining room, so one of the staff was insistent about taking my jacket off my chair and hanging it up for me. That behind us, we perused the interesting menu and started by sharing the samosas and the chutney sampler with pappadoms, along with a mango lassi and a Kingfisher beer for me. We were also presented with a little amuse-bouche of a little glass containing a dumpling--it might have been the menu's vegetable bhajia--which was a lovely bite to start off with. We then ordered chicken tikka makhani, chicken dosa, tandoori lamb chops, and chicken Madras curry for me. My curry was very tasty, not too spicy, and my partner's dosa was impressive, a huge filled pancake, rolled over to more or less fit on the plate. I think we all enjoyed the food very much, and there was plenty to take home for the next day. The service was attentive and pleasant. Upon visiting one of the one-person rest rooms, I was disappointed to find it with no soap. In a small restaurant, that's concerning. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Bombay Bistro, and would return.

Yelp
Wonderful dinner. Everything was very tasty and the service was nice. We got chicken dosa, tandoori chicken, and a chicken curry. The naan was especially good. We have gotten carry out several times before during COVID and everything has always been yummy. The only miss that we ordered was the samosas which weren't as good as some other places.

Rabitah M.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the timing of the food was good. The service was awesome. I wish the portions were bigger enough to take home, but this is Rockville and inflation going on. The vibes were well, mediocre. I just used to ordering biryani and getting like a box full. Maybe it's just depends on the location. Maybe I will try carry out once and check out the portions then. The Chicken Biryani. The portion for a Biryani is usually bigger. Those crunchy onions were a hit or miss. Raisins and nuts were unnecessary. Chicken, I prefer authentic and bone-in. Very small portion with small chicken pieces. The flavor was delicious so I commend them for that. I would've preffered the Indian salad.

Morit C.

Yelp
the best indian restaurant in the area since 1992. it's perfect every time. the veggie thali is especially special. highly recommend.

Terri K.

Yelp
Not the most creative menu, but the food is always solid. Delivery is fast and hot. Would like to see a few more dishes on the menu in addition to the old stand-bys. Consistent but predictable.
google avatar

Vijay K.

Yelp
Got a chance to check out their new brunch yesterday. It was incredible, will defly be coming back!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was very good and less oily and creamy than other Indian restaurants. This is probably a healthier option than most. However, the portions were small. For instance, I ordered the palak paneer and there were maybe 5 half-inch cubes of paneer in the whole thing.

Bri M.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! We just moved to the area and wanted to give this spot a try. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Milo A.

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating. Food wise had the Masala dosa which was great. Also had the samosa and mango lasi. Pea soup was good. Chicken dosa ordered by someone else on the party was okay. Service was good except they charged us for chutney that was never brought when we brought that up they told us they would change it but then charged us for it.
google avatar

Diana T.

Yelp
A bit of a long wait even when we pre-ordered, but the food is incredible and we will be coming back here again.

Lauren K.

Yelp
Tasty vegan dumplings and vegan options! Portions are a little small but otherwise delicious

Pushpa R.

Yelp
The food was ok only and nothing to write home about. Service was great and place was clean.

Yelp
We got takeout from here on Uber. We were very unimpressed. We got the chicken tikka makhani (similar to butter chicken), lamb chops, garlic naan and samosa. Lambs were very dry. The chicken was chewy. The samosa didn't taste fresh. Overall, very disappointed and was hoping to find a good local Indian spot but will need to look elsewhere

Yelp
What an amazingly pleasant surprise in August 2022 Ordering Indian food is usally hit or miss for Desi palettes because we tend to be very picky about flavors of our daals, and vegs, and masallas. As a rule, it's impossible to order a bunch of different dishes (we had several different entrés and have all of them turn out okay. Today, however, was a brilliant exception to this rule. Every single one of our Entrées was exceptionally tasty. Bombay Bistro has completely upped there post-covid game. Even if you had tried their place before and thought meh, please go back and give this place another go! We had Lamb Saag, Chicken Chittinad, Daal, butter chicken, and Lamb Biryani--every single one of these was yummy. The depth and the notes of the essence of each dish were superlatively highlighted. Well done you folks. Mr. Sunil who prepared our food in the kitchen was superbly fantastic.

Nikhil B.

Yelp
Our go to place for Indian food! A place where you feel welcome and the staff takes care to get to know you and treats you like family. Our go to dishes are the chicken curry madras, vegetable jalfarezi and the yellow dal. Recently, we tried the rockfish, mussels, lamb chops and the achari tacos and they did not disappoint. The people behind the food-Chefs Vinod and Rahman coupled by the front of the house-Ms. Nandita and Mr. Somnath who makes you feel welcome and one of their own every single time , makes this place special from me and my family. Lastly, hats off to all of the other employees who do all the "unsung" work to make the food and experience a memorable one.

Yelp
Excellent Indian food run by a very nice and friendly family. We eat here at least monthly and they are consistently excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is consistently delicious beyond belief, and the kindness of the team is a bonus!

Yelp
As a Bombayite, I was excited to see a Bombay restaurant. Alas, the foods are neither specific to Bombay nor taste like the foods there. I was disappointed to see that they did not have any of the usual chaats, frankies, or Indochinese fusion that makes Bombay famous. No pav bhaji, dabeli, sev puri, vada pav, or missal! Why call it Bombay Bistro if the cuisine isn't even from Bombay? This is like calling a restaurant Maine bistro and not selling lobsters. All of the menu items are from other places (hint: it is in the name: Chettinad dosa, Malabar mussels, etc.) I had the chicken dosa which was decent. The chai was terrible. They only had teabags and it took them over 20 minutes to make the tea. We tried a few other appetizers but nothing to rave about. Ambience: The place is tiny and was crowded. The kitchen faces the seating area so a lot of noise, fumes, and smells from the kitchen spill over into the dining area. The servers aren't very attentive and it took us a few tries to flag one down. The owner was sitting behind us and came over to take the orders which was nice but not worth a second visit.

Yelp
Food poisoning . I hate doing this to a local business but I got sick after getting dinner here. The food tasted really insipid and the chicken was definitely stale. I aborted mid meal and was sick within 10 minutes of getting out of there. Very disappointed!!

Yelp
Heard it can be hit or miss, but we've always had the hits. Great veggie options too. Typically will pick up Uber Eats, transports well on way home

Yelp
Excellent food! Fun patio. Flavors, textures, and scrumptious smells- all you need to bring is friends and family

Yelp
Bombay Bistro is my happy place. It has the best lunch buffet I have found, and is located right near the courthouse. It is tucked in on West Montgomery, not far from the Town Center. The dining room is bright and has windows on two sides. The offerings change daily, but today's chicken curry, fish, lentils, cauliflower, naan, green beans & potatoes, little lentil pancakes and other delicacies are my "guilty pleasure."
google avatar

Bernadette C.

Yelp
Enjoyed their buffet a few Sundays ago with a good friend. She has been enjoying their food for years. She is a testimony to their food, for the length of time she's been visiting this establishment. Pricing: We decided to go with their buffet, as it had lots of variety and was well-priced. At $11.95 per person, the price was descent for weekend brunch. Most places increase their weekend brunch rate, so this is a real bargain. Ambiance: Warm friendly place, where there were lots of repeat visitors. A few recommended a dish or two. It is an Indian Restaurant, and we love and try this category often. There were a fair amount of South Asian people eating here, on the Sunday we visited, that is a good sign of quality and authenticity. We would return for sure, when we are in need of a relaxing Sunday Brunch with Indian Food.

Yelp
Never disappoints. Had the lamb vindaloo, spicy. So delicious. This place is as consistent as it gets. Food came out quick and service is always attentive.

Yelp
This place is definitely in person, but due to the pandemic, my roommate isn't comfortable eating out just yet. They have labels for allergies (my roommate eats only gluten-free dishes), but a lot of their labels were missing from the UberEats menu. After verifying with the restaurant, we ordered 3 dishes to split. Really 2/3 were okay. The saag paneer was bland and lacked the cheese, and I wouldn't get it again. I've had flavorful saag paneer at other places and was disappointed. The chicken tikka makhani was similar to tikka masala and was pretty good. The fish curry was descent as well. Overall, I think this place is better in person. It was kind of mediocre this time.
google avatar

Rosalind C.

Yelp
This place is hit or miss the first time the Chicken Biryani was excellent with seasoning and spices and tender chicken with raisins, nuts and spices the second time not even close. In addition to my order being incomplete the dish was very bland and lackluster, very disappointing. Even more so because you are out of the way for people who don't live in the immediate area so I won't be coming back. It was very disappointing.
google avatar

Larissa J.

Yelp
Looking for an inexpensive place with a lot of variety for lunch? Look no further, Bombay Bistro is the place for you! It is located a few steps away from Rockville Town Center which means it is a little less crowded at times but the food is yummy! And when you come for lunch, they have a buffet for $13.95 with a ton of vegetarian options and delicious Indian food. This is a great place for work meetings or just to meet up with a friend and chit chat. Check it out!

Yelp
Not very often I get to eat Indian food, so I had to jump on the opportunity during my business trip. They had a pretty large menu with tons of options, and I normally am a chicken tikka guy... but this time I went with the curry chicken. First off, the food came out extremely quick, and it definitely was a large portion! The Curry Chicken Madras entree came with the chicken and a bowl of rice, I also ordered the garlic naan. After they brought the meal, my server brought out some chutneys. I tried a couple, but for the most part I ate the meal without. The chicken was flavorful and very tender and the curry sauce was amazing. I think the best part was dipping he naan into the curry sauce. My only knock on this place was that it was extremely hot, I'm not sure if the A/C was broken or it's just that hot, but picture eating spicy food in a hot restaurant... not pretty right? And if you sweat like me lol.... but anyways, the food is great, just be prepared for some heat (and i mean both ways lol) Follow us on Instagram at @RedPlateSpecial !

Yelp
Drove past this little gem and realized that, as I had been away, it had been a while since I ate here. Unfortunately due to all the Covid-19 stuff, dine in was suspended. Coaxed the friend I was visiting to call in. Happy to report that it hit the spot. Perfectly done lamb curry, so succulent and the Black lentils, so delicate with natural creaminess that can only be achieved with hours of simmering. Good portions too. Compliments to the management/owners for maintaining excellent standards for almost 30 years. Wow, can't believe I have been coming here for so long!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food. I got a fish curry a while back and cannot forget the amazing taste. I was seated outside ( went in summer) and liked the ambiance a lot.

Yelp
I ordered via Doordash, so I can't speak to the dining experience. First, the bad. We felt like we were screwed on the serving sizes. We ordered a samosa appetizer for $3 or $4. It was good, but only came with one single samosa and was not particularly large. Second, I felt they were short on the rice. We ordered 2 entrees plus a side of dal but only got what we thought was enough rice for one entree. The Saag Paneer was the worst I've ever had, and I've been eating Indian food for 15 years. There was practically no cream in it at all. It was pretty much straight steamed spinach with some cheese cubes thrown in. My wife added some cream herself to try to save it. It didn't work. We threw it out. At this point, this would be a 1 or 2 star review. However, enter the dal makhani. This stuff was great. Also, the amount of naan they give is very generous. We ordered 3 and regretted it. Saving the best for last: LAMB ROGHAN JOSH! This stuff should get Fireworks, rock stars, and a fly over each time it's served. Hands down the best lamb roghan Josh I've ever had. The place seems very inconsistent. Apparently you need to know what to order. However, that lamb roghan Josh by itself is good enough to come back for.

Yelp
Ordered a take out from this place. Got two dishes and 3 naans. And the total was 40$ which I think was overpriced for the food that we got. First of all Goat Biryani. I can't even call it a biryani. They made it with regular rice and not basmati rice.... and rice was way over cooked.... they charged 17$ for that and the portion was kinda small Second dish: Butter chicken. I can't believe the charged 14$ for a small cup of butter chicken!!! So disappointed!!! But the butter chicken tasted good so at least that's a plus. But the portion was very small. We did takeout so when we got to the hotel we saw they didn't put any forks or napkins.... we called the restaurant and instead of apologizing they just said we have to ask for utensils... I think if you are doing takeout they have to put utensils!!! Overall very unhappy with the whole experience!

Yelp
Heard through many people about this local restaurant, and all it's glory. I was happy to be able to come to a local MOCO restaurant, that's been here since 1996. To summarize: I recommend with some room for improvement. Restaurant could use a refresh. If you don't care about the decor, it's a moot point. Overall, between apps and mains, food was 4/5. Extremely tasteful and good. But, as you can see from my pics, the high portion of rice doesn't mask the need for more veggies.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Yo wtf happened to this place? It used to be the best Indian food in Rockville. Went to the lunch buffet and thought it straight up sucked. Cold food with crappy spread and lazily prepared. Cmon man. What happened, for real? Go to WOODLANDS VEG restaurant instead. Smacks this place in the ass twice. Sell Bombay back to the old owner and let that man do his things
google avatar

Ajay G.

Yelp
This place was my first time a couple days ago. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this place. Whenever I want to go to a decent dinner, this is the place that comes first to my mind. excellent and diverse food and a large menu.generous staff members, and nice spirit. In addition to that, the cost is decent. I praise this spot with no doubt.
google avatar

Yelp
Have been going to this Indian restaurant for over 15 years now, but just getting to their review on Yelp! My family and I have tried this many times over the years and have had great dining services for the most part. The location is a little cozy, but the food is amazing. I usually get the Naan bread with Chicken Madras or the Non-Veg Thali, or the Chicken Curry with extra spicy sauce. Tastes great that way and more flavorful. I've tried their lunch buffet and it's also reasonable. Parking can be a hassle for dinner times if it's really busy after 7pm. Otherwise, it's a great option for some Indian cuisine.
google avatar

Blayre H.

Yelp
We found this restaurant during COVID, so I've never "dined in" and cannot speak to the service. However, the food is perfection and is our favorite Indian spot in Rockville! The portions are generous sizes, and I feel like everything I try is so good. The chicken dosa is my personal favorite, and the samosas, naan, and biryani are always crowd pleasers. I'm sure we'll be supporting this place for many years to come!
google avatar

Phi N.

Yelp
This place was not as good as people make it out to be... we got the buffet, but I didn't want to rate it on just that so I got the lamb chops and buttered chicken too! The buffet was alright-- about the same as other ones I've been to, but they lack my favorite dish, the buttered chicken. Nothing stood out in there. I didn't like the flavor of the lamb chops at all. I guess that depends on your taste though. As for the buttered chicken, it wasn't buttery enough... typical rockville restaurants catering to the white rockville folk. I want more butter! More fat! More salt! lol The food is very well presented, and the service is great.

Jackson G.

Yelp
Yes, I may of forgotten to take a photo because I was so excited to try the food because it looked delicious. The smells were amazing and I felt like I was In India! I have been going there since I was 5, and It has always been my FAVORITE Indian food restaurant. This was the first Indian food I was exposed to and I would recommend highly. This restaurant Is the reason why I love Indian food. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Drive by discovery - tasty fresh food fast service outdoor dining available on a large deck.
