The set comes with bhel puri chaat, one sabji (main dish), two roti, kadhi, dal, rice, and your choice of beverage. Visited this Indian place twice because a friend said their paranthas are a must-try. The first time was fantastic – loved the paranthas, chai, and pani puri. However, the second visit didn't live up to the hype. The chole bhature and pani puri were a letdown; maybe a different chef that day? The service is usually quick, but when it gets busy, things slow down a bit. Despite the mixed experience, I might return for the paranthas, which were the highlight for us for sure. The atmosphere is decent, and it's generally a good place, just hit or miss sometimes?

For over a decade, Bombay Chaat House has been my go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine. The food consistently tastes like home-cooked meals, and the service is exceptional. Despite the passage of time, the flavors remain unchanged, offering a comforting and nostalgic dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking genuine Indian flavors and warm hospitality.

This is a low-key vegetarian restaurant serving North Indian cuisine, sweets, and chaat items. I was happy to see typical Indian pastries here! I liked dahi papdi chaat and sev puri. It was a tad bit salty for others, but I generally like salty items. Dahi was served generously. Aloo Paratha is worth a try. Quite the quantity, delicious, served with boondi raita and pickle. Chole Bhature was okayish. I would say you can skip it. I have had much better tasting chole elsewhere. These were very homely types. Didn't feel like a professionally made chole. Bhature were of good size. The problem we faced was the loud cartoons and children songs they were playing on the TV. It was super irritating and hard to chit chat amongst ourselves. Some other music would have been better. It was probably for a toddler on another table, but that's not right. The child was not the only customer eating there. Overall, a value for money restaurant where rates are lower than other restaurants in the Bay area.

Extremely Disappointed – Health Hazard Warning I had samosas with chutney from Bombay Chaat House – Milpitas last Sunday at a party, and unfortunately, it turned into a nightmare. Within a day, I developed a severe throat viral infection that required medical attention. I later found out that others have also reported similar issues with the quality and freshness of the food from this place. It’s deeply concerning that a restaurant serving the public can be so careless with hygiene and food safety. Multiple people have shared that their food is often stale and not prepared or stored properly. This isn’t just about bad taste – it’s about public health. I urge others to be cautious when considering food from here, especially for parties or events. I sincerely hope the management takes immediate steps to address this, because right now, it’s a serious health risk.

We’ve had repeated bad experiences with this place. While dining in, the customer next to us returned a pastry right away, calling it stale. We ordered samosas and mango lassi for takeaway. When we got home and opened the samosas, they had visible fungus on them. The mango lassi, which our kids drank, caused both of them to vomit the next morning and suffer from an upset stomach. This is the second time in two years we’ve had serious issues with food quality here. Clearly, there’s a major problem with freshness and hygiene. Posting this review to caution others.

Google
The paneer pakoda at Bombay Chat House disappointed with an excessive besan coating, masking the paneer's taste. On a brighter note, the samosa was enjoyable, and the pricing seemed fair for the overall dining experience.

Google
Visited this place after grocery shopping. Ordered badam milk and mango lassi, the badam milk tasted disgusting and when I observed it had literal mold growing in it. Was absolutely shocked and when I went and reported it, they seemed extremely nonchalant and tried to offer me another badam milk from the back without checking if it was good or not. Not a single apology was rendered, a very casual “do you want us to replace your drink”. I asked for a refund and got it, the mango lassi tasted bad as well, so just threw it on the way back. Very disappointed with the standards of this place. Would suggest walking a little further and trying the food truck instead.

Yelp
My friend took me to Bombay Chaat House. I liked the aloo paratha and chole -- they tasted really good. But the spinach paratha was not that great. Still, everything else was nice. Since my friend really likes this place, I want to try it again and see how it goes next time.

Yelp
I've never been here before, I needed a close by restaurant that serves Navratri food, they a meal called Navratri Combi which is a great combination. You chose either aloo curry (potatoes) or paneer curry (cheese), dahi (yogurt) and Kheer(typically made with rice, but for Navratri it's more with Sabu Dana. I tried both curries, if you're fasting eating only fruit and dried nuts, aloo curry might be more appropriate as the paneer curry is pretty heavy. I feel tanked after finishing my meal whereas the other combo made me feel satisfied. Both combo are served with two pieces of either Kuttu (buckwheat) roti or Rajgira (amaranth) roti. If you like to keep your meals super simple without use of salt, sugar or pepper this place might not be a good option, but the fact that it is an option on the menu is great for the times that cooking at home isn't possible. There's plenty of parking available, you can take the food either to go it for sit down. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. The ambiance is casual and good for groups.

Yelp
"This restaurant serves absolutely incredible food--every dish is full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. A must-visit for anyone who loves amazing cuisine!"

Yelp
Tried this place a while ago on a whim , when I was in the area. It has a huge menu consisting of Indian street food / chaat items, appetizers , north Indian curries and bread , fusion dishes such as burgers and wraps and some regional dishes such as pav bhaji, makki di roti etc. It is a purely vegetarian restaurant I tried the Baingan Bhartha ( mashed roasted eggplant ) which is served with roti and Pav Bhaji ( Mashed vegetable stew served with bread ) . They were able to make them both vegan. The taste for both was ok, nothing remarkable.

Yelp
Being here in this shopping strip so many times and never noticed this little hole in the wall place. The food is good and service is fast. Chaats are one of the best i have ever eaten in bay area. Methi poori is great.

Yelp
We frequently order bulk tawa roti from them. My mom commented she can't make Rotis that stay so soft for so long like them. And that's something coming from her. They have lots of other food to offer too. I will update the review if I end up trying something else.

Yelp
Just hits all the right spots, uff. I keep coming back and have never had a less than 10/10 experience!!!

Yelp
Still drooling over this Aloo paratha image, and missing the taste of it. I am definitely visiting this place again. However, the ambiance is something where they need to work upon. They were quick with their service and served free condiments.
google avatar

Yelp
I've relied on their 'combo 2' all throughout the covid times. It's good for a quick lunch. Their parantha is huge- of any kind plain or filled.

Yelp
Worst place to eat pani puri, pastries are old my kids got stomach pain , Tikki chaat tastes like left over food .. old food, Never gonna go to this place anymore. 0 star

Yelp
I stopped by here while we were in Milpitas. It was easy to find parking. Ambiance was okay - quiet and clean. I got the lunch combo 1 this afternoon. This menu item sounds quite compelling and I was quite excited about the prospect of eating some authentic North Indian food. Service was quite prompt. The person at the counter was very friendly, and patiently answered my questions while placing the order. Lunch combo includes 2 rotis(Indian bread), rice, dal, yogurt, pickle, and your choice of 2 vegetarian dishes. I ordered Punjabi kadhi and paneer butter masala. The food was below average to average. Except kadhi which was quite delicious. Portions were small for pretty much everything. I am comparing this to other combo offerings in the Bay Area - south and east bay.

Yelp
Really yumm food . It's right around the corner for us so we have eaten here a lot . My favs are the samosa chat , dahi bhalla chat , dahi chole chat , dahi papdi chat and their hara Bhara paratha . Their sev puri and sprite chat was good too . Good quantity .

Yelp
Had been to this place recently as it was picked by someone in our group based on his past visit. I was a bit wary based on Yelp reviews. I agree with some of the reviews. Chaat items were below par. It was lacking the key elements/ingredients that make a good chaat preparation. Sev puri was so basic and such a disappointment. The chutneys that came with the sev puri were also mediocre. I think they missed the point on this completely : ( I think the items other than the chaat category are better. Parathas were pretty good. I will good 4 stars. Not having garlic naan in the menu was a disappointment. I exist only because of Garlic naan : ) Plain roti was OK. We ordered 'baingan bhartha' (Mashed and spice Eggplant curry). It tasted good, but didn't have much of 'baingan'(a.k.a egg plant). It is not the usual style one is used to. One of the members in my group was raving about their chai. I didn't taste it though. Service was decent. The place is clean enough , given what one could expect.

Yelp
This is not a fancy restaurant but it's a decent place to eat if you just bought Indian groceries from the Indian store next to this place :) I've eaten here before, and from my recent eat I felt the food quality has improved probably. Anyway, we did a quick pickup of Hara Bhara paratha and samosa ragda. Omg! The paratha was huge and looked delicious and I can vouch this tasty pretty healthy, filling and tasty. The samosa ragda was pretty good too - if you don't like sweet chaats - do yourself a favor to ask for the sweet chutney on the side/ask them to put a little of it :) Bonus points for a wide variety of selections as well. They also got our order ready pretty quickly. I would recommend this place for healthy and quick eatery :)

Ajinkya R.

Yelp
AVOID THIS PLACE. They had the courage to serve up paav that was burnt beyond human consumption. Also paav bhaji is not makhni gravy with onions and cilantro. This is a unserious operation with below amateur food. There are much better options near this.
google avatar

Kamaljit K.

Yelp
They have all vegetarian food. Prices are good. Food is also good it takes like home made.

Yelp
chola bhatura - 2.5/5 ( below average taste, almost bland, not at all spicy, pickles on the side are a saviour) Paneer wrap - 3/5 (tastes edible, nothing outstanding about it ) Samosa- 5/5 (they are out of the world, the best I've had in Bay Area) Chaat - 2/5 (don't go here for chaat, it's bland, chutneys are low quality & lack flavour) Aloo parantha - 5/5 (very good & filling ) Hara bhara parantha - 5/5 (very good & filling) Lunch / dinner combo - 3.5/5 ( I'm rating it 3.5 just because it's value for money, although taste is not as great ) Chai - 1/5 (not at all good, tastes like dhoopbatti ) Over all 3/5 to this place because it's value for money, servers (male ones) are polite , ambiance is decent (Indian canteen like)

Yelp
I go here for one dish and that is the bombay burger. It's simple yet so very tasty! The patty is crispy and soft at the same time. A slice of paneer makes it the best addition to the burger. Super filling and the bun is also smoked/burnt a little which adds a better flavor!

Meetu K.

Yelp
Great home style food. Tried almost all the dishes. No complaints. Service is fast. Cakes and pastries must try. Parathas are great

Farah J.

Yelp
I ordered take out and it was good! The only thing was it's very Americanized compared to what I've had in Mumbai. For one, it wasn't spicy at all. Which is a bummer because I wanted that sweet and spicy affect from my chaat. Otherwise the flavors are rich and chutneys are decent. Would recommend to my gora friends for sure.

Yelp
Great parathas Thalis & Bombay burger Amazing service esp by Pema Low key ambience but clean

Yelp
The curry are very flavorful specially kadhai paneer Will visit this place more often to try their other dishes

Yelp
I stopped by to get a quick bite of Bombay burger that my friend highly recommended. I must say the burger tasted very much home like. I really liked the potato/veggie patty and the bun. But I think the overall taste was toned down because of the huge piece of lettuce and tomato ketchup on the top. I'd very much appreciate if the lettuce is reduced to half, ketchup is provided on sides along with coriander chutney. Maybe these changes will automatically spice up the burger, if not then I don't mind having some hot sauce or spicy patty instead. Will try again and remember to add these requests.

Yelp
It's one of the nearest food to homemade. Try it and you would want more. Great food at this price.

Yash K.

Yelp
Went to this place after a gap of few years. The food here used to be tasty but now it is such a disappointment. This place has taken a u-turn in terms of quality and taste of food across the board. Pav bhaji was sweet, chole bhature totally bland and ras malai was basically pressed ras gulle. Save your appetite, time and money for another place! Such a disservice to those who enjoy Indian food.
google avatar

Zeus K.

Yelp
All these other reviews are false claiming. This place is the TRUTH. They know how to do it, the roti, dal, eggplant curry was all fresh and warm. I love how they use whole wheat for the roti and how its not like other indian restaurants where its big as hell and gets hard real quick. THIS PLACE ON TOP IN SJ FOR INDIAN FOOD. ALL YALL OTHER YELPERS ON HERE FALSE CLAIMING.

Yelp
Zero stars if I could. we've been going to this place for years. I had a couple of bad experiences with this place and the last one was the tipping point to never return here and report them to the authorities. The hygiene levels in this place are terrible. One one occasion we got stale food and we let it go as a one off. Today I got mixed vegetables which was stale and the conversation went this way Me : Of the two dishes that I ordered mix vegetables is stale Restaurant owner(I suppose) : He checked the dish and its ok Me : I say I can smell it and it should not be served to anymore customers Restaurant owner : May be my order is ok but we'll serve to other customers Me : I will have to report this Restaurant owner : Go ahead, report and comeback! I filed a complaint at https://ehinfo.sccgov.org/submit-complaint If you have had similar experiences, I encourage reporting them!

Shravya S.

Yelp
We did the mistake of not checking reviews before going to Bombay Chaat House. Super disappointed with the whole experience. We got Pani puri, sprouts bhel puri and Mirchi bajji. Pani puri had no flavor whatsoever! The aloo filling was just boiled potato and 3 chana (literally). At least add some salt! To add to this disaster, the pani was unnecessarily cold. This could be a personal preference, I hate cold pani. In all, major let down. Sprouts bhel puri - while it sounds interesting, it was a huge disappointment. No flavor, no nothing. Quite literally just puri and sprouts. We couldn't eat more than 5 spoons. Mirchi bajji was the only saving grace.. somewhat. It wasn't great, but the most edible of the lot. Unfortunately, not coming back.
google avatar

Munib K.

Yelp
Very bad experience with the place. The food is disgusting and tastes only of cumin and oil. Everything we ordered was too oily and had no taste to it. A very loud and cramped place as well. Wouldn't recommned evenn for their vast variety if chats.

Rohit K.

Yelp
Gone with friends for trying out chaat here but the experience was far from good. The sev puri was really bad earthy flavor from the sauces. Bhel puri was bland and the rice puff used is not normally used for bhel. Vada pav is more like vada burger(bread) and not real pav. The taste was just ok not authentic. Veg cutlet tasted almost the same potato patty from vada pav so was a bummer. Being from Mumbai and tasted chaats all over, it was a disappointment to say the least. Not recommended unless the quality and flavor of food improves.
google avatar

Sachin M.

Yelp
We have been going to this restaurant for a long time. It used to be good but last couple of times it has been a disaster. We ordered to go: Chola Bhatura: Chole had no flavour, Bhatura was chewy and hard to eat Pav Bhaji: Bhaji had a ton of chili Mix Veg pakora: very oily and soggy. Felt they were double fried Aloo Paratha: Aloo had no flavour other than salt. And to top it all I found hair in the paratha. I really liked that we had a nice place to go to but if this continues we can't think of going here.

Prashthy M.

Yelp
Worst quality. Avoid this place please. Ordered a vada pav and they gave this on a sesame bun with a really badly made patty. They used sriracha as hot sauce. If you dont know how to make vada pav, please take it out of your menu rather than making a terrible one!
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
Great place if you are looking for freshly made parantha and saag. Even their coffee has a unique earthen pot fragrance!
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
I love love love the food here. I'm almost always having Navratan Korma with Masala Poori. Flavors and consistency are bomb. I have been to MANY bay area Indian restaurants and this is a great one. Chili pakora highly recommended.

Shil S.

Yelp
Everything we tried so far have been disappointment in this Restaurant. I still don't know whether this is North Indian or Panjabi Restaurant. We have tried below items so far, none of them were good in taste. All types of stuffed parathas, plain paratha, Biryani(it does not even come near the taste of Pulav let alone Biryani!). Sev Puri was served with Pani, when I asked is it Pani Poori, I was told it's sev puri! Vada Pav was served in Burger Bun and Patty inside with Ketchup/Hot Sauce!! Also tried Chole Bhature, again it was missing authentic taste. They have huge quantity but taste wise it's not worth trying. After giving multiple tries, We are definitely not going back here!
google avatar

Harshada K.

Yelp
Stopped by at Bombay Chaat House after grocery shopping next door to get some samosas. The place looks pretty run down and shabby. I wouldn't want to sit here and eat to be honest. Would rather have my orders to go if I absolutely must have here. Service is kind of slow. My order was just a couple samosas and it took them quite a while to get them ready. A lot of options on the menu but don't know about any of the main course meals. The samosas were okay. I can say I've had much better than these but if you are just craving for samosas, these will do just fine.

Gina C. M.

Yelp
Tasty chaat & good value. I've been coming for years. Always carry out. I am boring. I always select from or get a combo of: - Aloo gobi - Bhindi masala - Mixed veg curry Can't go wrong. Right texture, perfect spices. [Except sometimes some pieces of the bhindi (okra) can be fibrous. No big whoop.] Oh and it's been a long time but their mango lassi is good too. Really hits the spot on a summer day. The only thing that's kept me from patronizing more frequently is it hasn't always been easy or pleasant to order ahead by phone. Then when I showed up I felt like the guys working there were cold/aloof or straight up spiteful that I was there. (Could be in my head.) Still, yummy food. I do crave it from time to time. But I did need to muster up courage every time. I stopped calling ahead and just showed up since they whip up the food so speedily anyway. Just a tad awkward hanging out. Then today I discover... Tada! They FINALLY have a website and you can order online! (There was a time they didn't even have a to go menu - they've come a long way! Bravo!) This changes EVERYTHING!!! Another plus was the guy who helped me today didn't exude any semblance of disdain. As the 4 stars state: Yay! I'm a fan. (Support local small businesses!)
google avatar

Dev A.

Yelp
1st time here and made the mistake of not checking reviews, I believe this place used to be something else before. Ordered the dahi papdi chaat or something similar to go. Since the puri and chutneys were all packed in single container, by the time I got home it was a soggy mess! It looked so bad I did not feel like eating eat. The chole had a strange taste and did not enjoy it. Given the to-go world we live in, I would have thought they would have figured out how to pack chaat properly.  No plans to return here.

Ekta J.

Yelp
The chole bhature is one of the best in the Bay Area..so is their hara bhara paratha. Very friendly staff and good food.
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
I am pregnant, craving Indian food, but afraid of ultra spicy spices. I am so grateful I found Bombay Chaat House, the spice and flavor are all there without the intense sodium, butter, and intense spiciness of some Indian restaurants. I ordered paneer masala and pav bhaji and these are baby approved since my tolerance level has changed.
google avatar

Vegetarienne G.

Yelp
I made the mistake of ordering from this place since I had a sudden chaat craving. It's been a couple of days and I'm still regretting it. I mean how could not even one item be redeemable. Chole had cardamom in it Bhatura was lumpy Sev Puri tasted stale Aloo paratha tasted so weird it went straight into the trash after one mouthful. Batata vada was too garlicky and had no other flavor. Please please don't make the mistake we did.

Abhinav J.

Yelp
Best and authentic Indian food in bay area. The service was quick. The ambience is nice and whole restaurant is neat and clean.
google avatar

Sree S.

Yelp
The thepla and the rotis are the best here! We have gotten to go twice here and both times the containers were steaming hot when we got it home! The navratna Kurma is a little greasy, the dhal and malai kofta are delicious, the regular parathas are good the day of but get a bit dry the next day but pretty good when it's hot!

Shraddha A.

Yelp
we ordered wada pav and believe me it was so bad i could have given negative rating if i could. Taste was weird. Please get food from somewhere else.
google avatar

Akshay P.

Yelp
This used to be our go-to place for chaat in North San Jose and still would be if I still lived here. I always get the papdi chaat for sure and a lot of other things but they're all equally delicious. There's a line sometimes but I've never had to wait too long and there's ample seating so I never have to worry about it. They also have free pieces of jalebi to try out while you're waiting!

Yelp
**This review is for their "Chai & Pav Bhaji" only!!** They make SUPER YUM CHAI (aka Tea) here!! I'm sure my fellow natives will understand what mean!! :) I go Gaga over their tea and I come here quite often just to relish in its deliciousness!! Sugar is pre-added & it's not too sweet at all. I prefer & drink the same preparation as how they usually make. Tea/Chai - A GREAT BUY!!! About their Pav Bhaji - it's simple & home style & a tasty munch all in all. I've had some of their other appetizers & chaat items, but nothing tastes at par with this Pav Bhaji!! Overall, A GREAT BITE!! I hope to visit often & write more in the future. Will see!!
